I did.  She was in Fido.  She’s really super cute, and she doesn’t seem ditzy.  That was actually kind of refreshing.

More importantly, I sat at the same table as Shauna, and we had a lovely time.  I like that girl.  She’s definitely not ditzy, and is super cute as well.

This weekend was nice.  I had to spend four hours observing massages yesterday, which would be a weird thing to do under any other circumstances.  I got kind of excited, though, thinking that I was going to get to do this for a living.  I hope I get a good placement when I graduate.  I’m not even sure exactly what direction I want to take it; my ideal would be having my own practice, but I know that’s a ways off.  I think I’d like to work for a chiropractor.  Maybe a spa.  Or maybe I could rent a booth somewhere like hairstylists do.  Dunno.

Yesterday, also, I took Dorian to meet Charley and Delgado, who as you may remember are my friend Leeann’s dogs.  (As in, the friend I was house/dogsitting for when I set off the alarm that time–remember?)  Why in the world would we force a crazy encounter such as that?  Well…looks like I’m moving again.  I can’t afford rent anymore, plain and simple.

This, as you might imagine, was a hard realization.  One of my biggest freakouts when I got laid off was the thought of having to leave my little apartment.  It’s nothing special—pretty run-of-the-mill as far as one-bedrooms go—but I’m kind of attached to it.  I managed to make some pretty unique memories here in just over a year.  It’s a perfect little space for Dor and me.

It was also terrifying, on one level, to ask a friend if I could live with them for a while.  I’m a good friend—I think—but I don’t really have any way to gauge how good I am to live with; and, even the best of friends can become a thorn in the flesh when in too close proximity for too long.  Leeann has steadily become one of those that I value the most over the past 3+ years—ever since that fateful night at the Gram Parsons documentary—and as such, I was all the more reluctant to rock the boat.  She’s like me—she does well on her own, and she lives on her own for a reason.

She’s also very approachable and charitable in her approach to just about everything in her life, and it would seem that that includes friendship—and her poor, always-about-to-be-unemployed friend Holly.  Not so terrifying after all, actually; in fact, once she said yes, it kind of made all the sense in the world.  So, at least for a few months, she and her boys are opening their home to me and my little boy, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

Speaking of those boys, their meeting could have gone a lot worse; we have a little work to do, though.  Any advice on cohabiting cats and dogs is welcome.  We were able to at least discern that they wouldn’t attack each other, but Dorian is NOT amused by the natural, enthusiastic curiosity of doggies and did not hesitate to defend himself.  Her place is big enough, though, that we’ll most likely be able to keep them separate most of the time.

Oh, and…yes, I will have an income after this job is over so I can make it slightly worth Leeann’s while.  Forgot to tell you about that, sort of.  I actually haven’t wanted to say much about it OR my new living arrangement for fear that it would all fall apart, but that’s probably ridiculous.  I just haven’t had much stability at all—at all—pretty much since I left Alabama, but especially over the past year and a half or so.  It’s gotten to be what I expect now; I hope it’s not always the norm, but I guess I may as well stay flexible.

I’m going back to work for The Man Downtown in January.  I actually am very excited about it.  I did this job going on three years ago, as you may recall, and it’s what I was doing when I started this blog.  It’s also going to be an odd sort of full-circle thing once I start back there—I was also living with a friend because I was poor then, too, and I was going to school at night (during my short-lived plan to get a business degree) as well.  I’m a lot more grounded as far as direction and practicality are concerned now, though, and a lot of realities have hit pretty hard since then—especially those of the financial sort.

Once the session is over, I’ll be jobless again, but I’m hoping and praying I can scrape together enough to go to school full-time and finish up and get started on my new career and get back on my feet.  We’ll see.  Oh, whatever—like I was really ever on my feet to begin with.

I try, folks.  I really do.

So, there.  I’m really bad about luring you in with my titles and then rambling about my own mundanities.  Once again I say, though—made you read.

Dorian, 13 month rascal !

Este próximo mes se celebra el noveno aniversario de nuestra discoteca de cabecera. Razzmatazz abrió sus puertas en diciembre del 2000, o sea que este año celebra su noveno aniversario. Como siempre, hay una sobreprogramación que hará que tengamos que pasarnos medio diciembre allí dentro. Atención a los nombres: Delorean, Alaska & Mario Vaquerizo, Vitalic, Dorian, The Raveonettes, Boys Noize, Yuksek, Don Rimini, The Requesters, Aeroplane, Crystal Fighters, Pegase, DatA, Pony Pony Run Run, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool y muchos, muchos más. Me he quedado sin desodorante. En general no soy muy maniático con los productos de higiene personal, me da igual un champú que otro y lo mismo pasa con el gel de ducha. Con el desodorante en cambio soy muy exigente. Sólo me vale mi Billy y cualquier otra marca me molesta. De hecho si detecto que alguien usa un desodorante muy perfumado casi me dan náuseas, especialmente si es Sanex o Rexona. Aún así, hoy me ha tocado comprar un Rexona, pero este es Rexona Tuning V8 for men. Lo más gracioso del producto es que en la etiqueta aseguran haberlo probado a 58ºC “la temperatura más alta registrada en la tierra alguna vez”. ¿Para qué coño quiero yo un desodorante que funcione a 58º? Yo lo que quiero es que funcione siempre y que no huela a nada, y yo tampoco.

Cuento el desayuno porque el blog va de eso, pero me esplaiaré más con la cena. He preparado un batido a base de melón y un yogur, bastante bueno. La parte sólida ha sido una especie de bikini cambiando el jamón york por salami y con queso provolone. Sin complicarme demasiado. Por favor decidme que en la tostada veis a la Virgen María o como mínimo a María Teresa Fernández de la Vega y nos hacemos de oro subastándola en e-bay. La cena en cambio ha sido la leche. Me quedan pocos días aquí y estoy empezando a repetir en mis restaurantes favoritos. Hoy he ido a A panela de barro. Hay quien me ha hablado mal del sitio pero en todas mis visitas a Pipa he ido y nunca me ha defraudado. El primer plato ha sido un poco simplón, pero creo que es algo generalizado en todos los restaurantes de Pipa. El segundo, espectacular: un guiso de pescado con gambas con una salsa tan picante que me ha hecho toser y llorar. De postre una torta de coco que no voy a olvidar en meses. La parte mala de este sitio es que me llaman “Sir”, igual que en China. Yo de sir nada, prefiero cuando las mujeres por la calle me llaman moço. Me rejuvenecen.

7 días para coger el avión de vuelta. 12 para la vida difícil.

Para difícil la nota que me ha dejado la queli. Antes de leerla he necesitado que se me pase el cabreo. Ha arrancado un trozo de hoja de mi libreta. Muchos ya sabéis que mi libreta es mi libreta, y nadie arranca ni escribe nada. Más relajado, he tenido que ir descifrando la caligrafía y palabra por palabra buscar el significado en Wordreference. Ahora ya sé que tengo que comprar lejía, limpiador de brillo y una escoba blandita. Quería poner la foto de la nota como un apunte antropológico y los de WordPress me dicen que no cumple los requisitos de seguridad. Tócate la polla, ni que fuera la receta para hacer una bomba H.

Si ayer dije que estoy de color chocolate, hoy añado que, entre la barba y los rizos, tengo el mismo aspecto que Bill Chenowith en la última temporada de A dos metros bajo tierra.

Suena Te echamos de menos de Dorian. Compradlo, esto y todo lo que encontréis suyo. Esta canción es grande.

Allow me to mention this right off the bat.  I don’t have any issue with the members of amputee_milfs reading this blog.  Some of them do so openly, so I know when they visit, some do so from behind proxies (which I’ve been known to pick on them for) and others follow the rss feed.  The reason, of course, I don’t mind this at all is rather obvious: It’s next to unthinkable that the starring subjects of a public blog wouldn’t at least check in on the blog from time to time.  That’s the same reason I want to see what has been said about me inside milfs.  Basic human curiosity.  Of course, I keep my blog open and public, the milfs feel they have to be secretive and sneaky, but that’s just the basic difference in our levels of courage and determination.  I’m happy to talk right to their faces, they’re cowardly little bitches that pee their panties and run and hide every time the big bad thorn calls them out.  So feel free, read all you want.

That said, I’ve noted an interesting phenomenon happening just recently.  While I’ve always seen a strange assortment of search terms leading people to this blog, usually along the lines of stuff like this, in the past week or so I’ve seen a marked increase in terms like “dorian thorn pictures”, “dorian thorn porn”, “dorian thorn videos”, “dorian thorn sex”, a few of which I noted on the screencap of today’s searches.

Why this renewed interest in my porn?  Sure, my ED page is gone, but if you do an image search on ED of the word “thorn”, believe me, all my pics are still on their servers.  And please don’t try to sell me on the idea that at least a few of you don’t have every last scrap of Thorn porn you’ve come across saved on your hard drives — that insults us both.  So why the renewed search?  Is it the same reason the words Dorian and Bacon are so interchangeable in your heads… that yummy tasty meat?  Perhaps you crave something new and different?

(well, of course it’s the milfs who are searching; because “no one cares”, I’m completely “not relevant”, so if that’s the case, it can only be members of amputee_milfs, which remains the only place on the Internet that at one time a full one-third of the entire community’s contents were entirely devoted to me — ahh, my fangirls)

Well, of course it’s out there, if you know where to look.  Which I think everyone does, actually: themeatpuppet.  The catch, of course, is that it’s a closed blog, because there’s things in there now that I can’t have just anybody viewing.  It’s remotely possible, true, that a few of the video clips included in that blog have found their way to the light of day… which, in fact, would go a long way towards explaining this current renewed interest.  But seriously, if you want all of them, plus the backstories explaining them, then you really need to get into the meatpuppet blog, and for that, you need a WordPress ID that’s approved by me as a reader of that blog.  Of course, WordPress only allows so many readers on a private blog, but I get around that by having a “general” username that is shared among a number of people who only check in every so often.

I’ve told you before, if you want that ID, all you need to do is ask.  I assure you, you would find it interesting.  Particularly the content in there that is very specifically milf-related.  Endless lulz.  And even better, because it’s a username I approved, it doesn’t even log on my tracking stuff!  How’s that for a deal?  Oh, yes, a deal.  I say you need only ask, but there is something I would ask in return.  It’s a small thing, not terribly complicated…

…but if you want to know, you need to ask.

And come now, I know you want to.

You can’t stay away, after all… and I know it’s not the Thorn you find so funny, it’s the meatpuppet that really brings the lulz.  And that’s exactly what I’m offering you…

You’d think I were moving.  Again.  Nope.  Just still sifting through all the belongings my folks brought by on their way out of town.  Working full-time and going to school three nights a week (and church one night a week) is not exactly conducive to such productivity.

It’s weird to have all my worldly possessions under one roof, finally.

P.S.  I miss having a real camera.  These cell phone captures just do not cut it.

Dorian cuida mucho su imagen como grupo, y se nota tanto en packaging de su último disco compacto, como en las fotos de estudio del grupo y también en los vídeos, claro. Ahora llega el de uno de sus temas incluidos en su último disco “La Ciudad Subterránea” y lo hace como introducción a lo que será una trilogía videográfica. El vídeo, producido por Crampton , a pesar del beso tan falso que lo cierra (nenes, un poco más de pasión!!), no está nada mal y dará paso a dos más correspondientes a los temas “Paraísos Artificiales” y “La Mañana Herida”. Creo que tengo la gripe A….

Oh, the second milestone. Shoes, yes shoes. I took Dorian to get his basketball shoes for the season. He is very particular about his shoes, well about everything. But we finally found a pair he liked, with rockets and flubber gel, super jump springs,weighing only one ounce, and they had 7 years same as cash. So that means we can have them paid off by the time he graduates college.

We ordered up his 10 1/2 to 11, the same size his dad wears. He put them on and they looked great, but he said they were a little tight. So the shoe man said “let’s measure his feet” He slid his sock covered feet into the flat metal foot device and after some minor adjustments the salesman proclaims ” he is closer to 11 1/2″. What? That cannot be! He cannot have bigger feet than his dad! So I chortled, “let me see that thing” and slid my sock covered foot into it; 10 1/2 to 11. No one told me that my 15-year-old kid would ever have bigger feet than me, ever be taller than me, no one. It had never ever occurred to me that my 15-year-old would be unable to fit into my shoes. How could this be? He is still several inches shorter than me, and about 200 pounds lighter.

Then I recalled a day, many years and many follicles ago, sitting in the lobby of Bethel Regional High School, socializing with friends. I plopped my size 10/12 foot up on the coffee table, and those next to me exclaimed “holy smokes, dude you have huge feet. You are going to be a giant!”. Obviously I am not a giant, but I do know that I have worn the same size shoes since my freshman year of High School; so I wonder if Dorian will have the same fate?

So now you know the second milestone is that my first child now has bigger shoes to fill than his dad. What is even more frightening is that I still have three boys to go. The good news, when he is done with a pair of shoes, I can borrow them. I may look like a clown, but I am old enough now that I don’t care.

At least mine are much warmer, and much less gnarly I might add.

Con la excusa de una gerontoquedada con Elías y José Ramón (Dentro de 20 años las gerontoquedadas serán con Johnatans y Christians…)  hace meses que planeaba otro fin de semana en Bilbao, concretamente desde la última y primaveral visita al Guggenheim tomado por Murakami. Ahora también con inexcusable visita al Guggenheim para ver – otra vez – las mega-esculturas de Richard Serra , La Materia del Tiempo, y las esperadas exposiciones temporales de Frank Lloyd-Wright y la de pintura De lo Privado a lo Público Habrá tiempo de amigos, pintxos, katxis, vinitos,cubalises y quizá algún guiño “folclórico”… Aunque no iré a ver a Delorean, que tocan el sábado en Bilbao, ni hoy tendré el problema de  elegir entre ver a Dorian+Mendetz en la Sala Q o a J. y Florent de Los Planetas en el Teatro Central de Sevilla en el ciclo de La Música Contada. No se puede estar en 65.000 sitios a la vez.

Al menos oir algo de estos chicos bailongos de Zarautz por gentileza de los del vodka…

In traditional harmony (i.e., the kind you’d learn in a Classical music school), being in a minor key has a particular definition that gets confused with being in a minor mode. So what’s the difference, and are the terms key and mode just different words we can use for describing the same thing? In short, what does it mean to be in a key?

It’s best to begin this discussion with a quick look at how music was structured several centuries ago. If you were writing in the 16th century, you were probably writing in one of the so-called “church modes”. “Modality” is a large area of study, but for our purposes here, playing a scale from C to C, using no raised or lowered tones, gives you the Ionian modal scale – which we today call the “major scale”. Playing D to D gives us the Dorian scale, and so on.

In today’s popular and jazz music styles, the Dorian and Aeolian scales are in common usage. Many songwriters build songs using those modes. They are both known as minor modal scales, but that should not be confused with being in a minor key.

The difference between being in a minor mode and being in a minor key is the presence (or not) of a leading tone. A leading tone is the note that is one semitone lower than the tonic note, and often wants to move upward to the tonic note. The Dorian and Aeolian scales both lack this leading tone. The tone directly below the “tonic” of those scales is a whole tone away. Music evolved during the 16th century, responding to a desire on the part of composers to use a leading tone near the ends of phrases, as the melody moved up toward the tonic.

The topic of tonality is far ranging and complex, and beyond the scope of this article to cover it adequately. But we should at least answer one important question: How do I know if a song is in one of the minor modes, or in a minor key? Here’s a little checklist:

• If the melody is rising upward toward the tonic note, and accompanied by a minor V or flat-VII, the song is in either the Dorian or Aeolian mode.
• If the IV-chord is major (and/or if the 6th note of your scale is a whole tone above the fifth note), the song is likely in the Dorian mode.
• If the V-chord is major, the song is likely in a minor key.

And to help with some examples from the real world:

All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan): Aeolian Mode (C# Aeolian, using the chords C#m B A B)

Losing My Religion (R.E.M.): Aeolian Mode (A Aeolian, using the chords Am Em Dm G) (same as The Cure’s “Love Song”)

Eleanor Rigby (The Beatles): Dorian Mode (E Dorian, using the raised 6th note; the raised 6th becomes a lowered 6th a little later as it “pulls down” toward the dominant note.)

She’s Not There (The Zombies): Minor Key (with delvings into Aeolian and Dorian at various points… a very interesting example.

California Dreamin’ (The Mamas & the Papas): Minor Key (lowered chords C#m B A at the beginning come from the lowered tones of the descending melodic minor scale.)

Y a lo que nos viene de fuera hay que añadir, dos conciertos de grupos españoles, el de la presentanción del nuevo disco de Dorian, La Ciudad Subterránea, y el de otros que se van ya que Catpeople está ante el concierto que cierra su extensa gira.
