The focus now shifts to who is responsible for this failure, and the same culprits – seniors will be brought to trial on TV. Sanjay Manjrekar has spent more time on TV than in the middle, and yet thinks that his views on the game should prevail. The least I expect of him is to be at least be unbiased in his views and bring his Mumbai team mate from the past into the same debate, and brush it aside as saying “he seemed to be best of the three”. Similar views from another Mumbaikar, Mr Gavaskar too leaves out Sachin from all the blame game. Convenient, yet elementary Watson, aah..

Thankfully, the media will not decide who should quit after which match, and so when some rumors made rounds on timesofindia.com that Dravid is likely to call it a day, twitter was ablaze with fans asking him if this was decision based on the last 8 innings, in which case it was baseless. Come to think of it, he was the man of the series in England, scoring 500 odd runs, and perhaps having played the best knock of the year in the 4th test at Oval. In a carrer that has lasted so long, I am sure he will decide his future keeping in mind a lot more factors than just the last few innings.

Similar sentiments are being vented about VVS Laxman. Past glory it seems cant buy you a place in the current squad. Thats a fair comment, except, one needs to realise that he was in the squad for his class as a batsman, and even if has not scored in the last one year, one cannot deny that he has the ability to turn it around. Whether India would have performed better with Rohit Sharma in his place is a matter of imagination, and so best left out. THis is perhaps a rare series against the Aussies that he has failed. With scores like in Sydney 1999/2000, Calcutta 2001 and Mohali in 2010, it would have been foolish to leave him out.

In the coming days, I am sure these legends of the game will take a decision about their future, but that decision is theirs and theirs alone. Speculating about it, or counseling them that their time is up will serve no purpose other than fill the gossip columns in tabloids. After the 2007 world cup, a whole generation of cricketers were blamed and demands made for their exit. We are at a similar juncture now. Knee jerk reactions will help none, nor will it help when arm chair analysts say that youngsters would have performed better. India now has a fairly long break from test cricket and this should be help BCCI, the selectors, the captain and the players to think about the future of the game.

I stumbled upon this on vimeo. Video made for a project called ‘Under Vision Experiment’ or UND-VIS. The video’s perspective is from under ground, exploring the modern urban living. Inspirationally executed and the soundscape is simply amazing. I would have liked a narrative of some sort though, a storyline more than just showing off excellent editing skills. Leading up to the dramatic end, I miss the beginning and the middle (to use basic story-line terminology). But it IS interesting and definitely worth a click, which so many thousand others have already done.
