I took these photos last year while in Soho and LES on the night of Sept. 11th. Eight years ago, New Yorkers and Americans in general were rocked by the worst attack and loss of human life ever experienced on our soil. We will always remember where we were when the events that unfolded that day occurred… The Tribute in Light (as shown above), is a yearly reminder of the buildings that once stood where the lights now rise to the heavens.

September 11th is now Patriot Day and a day where we are called to public service and volunteer work. I chose this day to donate the backpacks, school supplies and sneakers that were so generously given to me by all of you to the Urban Family Center at the Henry Street Settlement, a family shelter on the Lower East Side. Many thanks to Doze and Deal the Villain for helping with transporting everything, as well as all of you who came to my fundraiser, donated money or supplies, or sent words of encouragement for my endeavor. I hope to make this an annual event that will grow and be able to provide back to school supplies for the youth of our city who need it the most.

Leptospiroza, din cate am inteles eu, e provocata de un microorganism in forma de spirala. Il poti gasi in baile publice sau pe dozele de suc, bere, pe conserve si alte cutii frumos ambalate. Da, se pare ca in depozite [ooops, sa nu afle "protectia consumatorilor"] soarecii se shushu [pishu, sau cum vreti] pe bauturile noaste, iar acea urina contine substante toxice, chiar mortale. Perioada de incubatie a spiralatului e de la 2 la 26 de zile, iar boala se manifesta prin simptome de frisoane, dureri de cap, febra, ameteala, voma, diaree, eruptii cutanate…ce mai, un spiraloso-periculoso Asa ca, inainte de a pune buzele fragede, rujate, imbalsamate, abia sarutate…pe o doza de orice beti voi, sau inainte de a deschide o conserva, ganditi-va ca un soarece mai multi soareci au folosit acel recipient pe post de toaleta publica Iacss

Imi imaginez un meci Romania-Manchester. Toti barbatii isi cumpara cate o doza de bere rece. Scorul 2-0. Nici un sunet. Coada la baie. Se spala dozele )

Os doze apóstolos

Fomos a uma pizzaria comemorar o aniversário de uma querida amiga. Estávamos à mesa com um grupo de nossa igreja. Todos alegres, contando piadas, rindo da vida e cheios de comunhão uns com os outros. Na nossa mesa nada diferenciava ninguém. Não importava se estavam ali pastores, seminaristas, pessoal do louvor, missões ou qualquer departamento de nossa igreja. Nós percebemos a vida não departamentalizada: todos somos pecadores e precisamos de Cristo e um dos outros.

Estava conversando com um querido amigo na mesa e me perdi pensando que ali estava um grupo de pessoas que amam a Cristo e O servem na vida. Com suas qualidades e defeitos. Conversando de todos os assuntos possíveis e em nada diferenciando-se do restante das mesas. Eu agradeci a Deus por fazer parte de um grupo assim. Pessoas que se sabem gente e vivem como gente. E não como robôs da fé.

De repente vejo minha esposa falando com duas senhoras muito simpáticas. Eram companheiras de meus sogros na caminhada da fé. Há muito tempo conhecem a família de minha esposa. Estavam animadas e sorridentes. Minha esposa veio apresentar-me a elas e continuei percebendo a simpatia delas. A senhora mais velha apresentou-me a filha, uma mulher de uns 50 anos. E não deixou de falar com muito orgulho sobre a filha e do genro:
“Esta é minha filha. Ela é bispa e meu genro é apóstolo. Ele esta ali no caixa pagando a conta!”

Eu gelei de cima a baixo… Comecei a perceber um enorme abismo diante daquela mesa e a mentalidade da maioria das igrejas evangélicas brasileiras. Nossa mesa não era melhor ou formado por excelentes cristãos! Sei das nossas fraquezas! Mas exatamente por isso fiquei perplexo olhando aquela senhora que era bispa(episcopisa seria o correto). E fiquei triste observando ao longe um homem de meia idade, que foi colocado no patamar de apóstolo.

Naquele momento lembrei-me do que faz alguém um apóstolo e porque a igreja parou em Paulo como o último apóstolo legítimo diante da igreja. Depois disto não há um apóstolo legítimo sequer, mas somente um “cargo” eclesiástico qualquer. Afinal em algumas igrejas pelo mundo existem até cursos e diplomas de apóstolos!

A igreja reconhecia um apóstolo nos seguintes termos:
- Foi escolhido e enviado pelo Senhor:  Lc 6.13;  Jo 6.70;  At 9.15; 22.213.
- Testemunhou Sua ressurreição: At 1.22;  1 Co 15.8,15
- Lançaram e formaram o alicerce da Igreja, da qual Jesus é a Pedra angular: 1 Co 3.10;  Ef 2.20

Olhando para aquele homem, que nem conheço, fiquei constrangido e indignado com o que muitos tem feito em nome de títulos e honrarias humanas. Não conheço o ministério e nem o coração daquele homem, mas não tenho como me calar diante de tal maluquice moderna.

Bom… Eu acredito em mudanças de vidas. Se isto for milagre, ok? Acredito em milagres e não me sinto bobalhão por isso. O que peço a Deus é que tire dos olhos daquele homem e família esta mentira vendida por sórdida ganância de poder! Que ele não se apresente num futuro próximo como apóstolo, mas como servo humilde de Cristo.

Ta aí… Será que se seminários teológicos deixassem de entregar um diploma e os formandos recebessem um abraço e imposição de mãos, tais instituições de ensino ficariam lotadas? Ao invés de um diploma, os formando recebessem a recomendação de serem humildes servos de Cristo, como seria a realidade da igreja formada por estes homens?

Sei que estou sendo simplório em minha reflexão, mas o que você pensa sobre este assunto?

Naquele que nos une!

Well there was no phone call from him today. I did not expect him to ring, but Mrs H thought he might. It has been a long day. I was that concerned about Mrs H sleeping, that I did not get much sleep myself. She was awake around about half past four, and from about that time I just dozed with one eye open. We were both up at twenty past seven !!! I have a feeling, tonight may be the same.

It’s just five days work, then I am off for a whole week. I may have to go in on the Tuesday morning, but it will only be for an hour or and hour and fifteen minutes. I’m not too happy about leaving P*** to do both the download and the cash transfer. He would probably be okay with the download, but he just would not do the cash, which means D*** would have two lots to do on the Wednesday, and that can be a bit of a pain.

I have my appraisal or ‘Personal Development Review’ or PDR as it is called. I have always been a fan of appraisals, until S**** came to work with us. He takes everything just too serious, including the recording of the meeting. It will take at least an hour. All that will happen is that I will get my ‘objectives’ for the year, and a discussion about why last years did not get completed. There will be no training required (where does the ‘Development’ part come in ??), and I will be told what an asset I am, and how the section could not run without me. There is no financial incentive, no chance of promotion. No benefit what so ever. Total waste of time.

On a different track, my legs ache. It must have been all that walking up and down the stairs at S****’s flat. I thought I was going down with flu this morning. Apart from that achy legs, my head spinning. It was only when I realised, that I had drunk most of the red wine, that I understood the problem.

No one to chat to tonight. They must all be having an early one. Therefore, so will I. Tomorrow will be quite a busy day, especially if I decide to do my PDR prep.

Ca y est, c’est l’été, les gens partent en vacances et le monde tourne au ralenti. Pourtant, la fine équipe de LAST Concept, épaulée par Eastpak et Molotow, continue de proposer inlassablement un nouveau sac à dos customisé chaque mardi.

Cette semaine, c’est le parisien Doze qui s’y colle, avec un sac rouge sur lequel il a laissé glisser ses marqueurs et accroché un badge et une étiquette à son effigie. Objectivement moins recherché que les précédents sacs présentés, le modèle reste assez classique au final. Mais eh, c’est l’été après tout.

Cred ca se stie de multi ca o singura chitara detine titlul pentru cea mai bine vanduta chitara *ever*. Bineinteles, ma refer la Fender Stratocaster…Tuturor ne place.Forma nici prea indrazneata nici prea banala, un grif foarte comod si o versatilitate indinspensabila pentru orice chitara.Dar cel mai important factor la aceasta chitara este tonul pe care il scoate.Unul care a devenit legenda si care se aude in majoritatea melodiilor noastre preferate.Desi aceasta chitara pare de vis, are un singur defect: zgomotul de fond (hum, pe engleza).Orice persoana cu o chitara echipate cu doze P90 sau single-coil a patit asta.O conectezi la amplificator, si in timp ce nu canti, se aude un zgomot foarte foarte enervant.

Pentru a remedia o astfel de problema, exista cateva solutii.Dar orice solutie poate necesita un mic sacrificiu din partea chitaristului.Acest sacrificiu ar insemna sa se modifice putin tonul specific unei doze single-coil sau P90.Totusi, sunt oameni care prefera sa altereze putin tonul si sa scape de zgomot.

Una din aceste solutii ar fi un set de doze noiseless.Aceasta este in mod cert solutia cea mai simpla pentru ca oriunde te-ai duce cu chitara, ea tot noiseless va fi.Dozele noiseless sunt foarte accesibile.Se gasesc atat la set cat si la bucata.Producatori precum Seymor Duncan sau DiMarzio s-au asigurat sa bage pe piata astfel de doze.

O alta solutie ar fi un noise surpressor (hai sa-i zicem amortizor).O pedala care poate scapa chitara de zgomotul de fond enervant.Cele mai bune exemple sunt ISP Noise Surpressor si BOSS NS-2.Aceste pedale iti ofera atat linistea dupa care tanjesti cat si tonul exact al chitarii pe care o ai.Dupa parerea mea, este solutia ideala.Partea proasta este ca tre sa o cari dupa tine oriunde ai merge cu chitara (bine macar ca e mica si usoara).

Cam atat am avut de spus despre hum canceling.sper ca acest articol sa va fi ajutat cat de putin.

This Saturday April 4th is the opening day of the Riverside Arts Market.  There will be food, produce, local art, an orangutan, a roof shingle…no, I kid.  Seriously, though, check it out:

In the late 1990s, Steve Williams,  an artist who co-owned Pedestrian Gallery at the time, was part of group trying to turn the Five Points area into Jacksonville’s official arts district.

Those efforts weren’t very successful and many of those involved scattered — to other neighborhoods or other cities.

But beginning Saturday, a new venue within walking distance of Five Points will become arts central in Jacksonville, at least one day each week, with the opening of the Riverside Arts Market.

Now, this cat absolutely needs no introduction:

I can’t stop saying the phrase “that is sick” when I look at Francesco LoCastro’s work.   It’s like if Doze and Jeff Soto had a kid and then sent that kid to live in Detroit for 6 months.  Here’s some quick info the DoSoto love child:

LoCastro was born in Catania, Italy in 1976, raised in Germany, and transplanted to Ft. Lauderdale during high school. His collegiate employment at a commercial art studio opened his mind to art as a life-long career as a curator and painter, which in 2000, lead him to found Pop Art Studios, a creative services company, commercial art & design studio and launch pad for LoCastro’s diverse art projects.

In 2006, his group exhibition during Art Basel Miami Beach at the Art Center / South Florida received numerous art industry accolades.  LoCastro, who continues to push the boundaries of emerging art at home and abroad, with exhibitions scheduled in the U.S. and Europe for 2009/10, is also featured among the 100 distinguished artists to forge the South Florida art community in the definitive book “Miami Contemporary Artists” released by Schiffer Publishing in 2007.

LoCastro was recently named Executive Director of New York-based arts organization Gen Art’s  1st Annual Vanguard Art Fair, the first fair of its kind to emphasize emerging trends of the Street Art and Pop Surrealist movements, which took place during Art Basel Miami ’08.

LoCastro’s work has been featured in numerous publications, including VICE, Juxtapoz, Art of the Times, NYArts, FEFÉ, La Stampa and The Miami Herald.  Current and past clients include Credit Suisse, Ecko, Converse and Scion.
