Recently, Game gave an update to his loyal fans about the status of his fourth studio album, The R.E.D. Album. As many already know, this album will be his first album back on Dr. Dre’s label, Aftermath Entertainment. After four years away, Game is finally back home.

When describing this new album, Game has repeatedly said that it was going to be great. He said that the album is by far the most lyrical thing that he has ever recorded. Unlike his previous album, Game promised that this album would be one for the streets, a return to his hardcore roots.

In his time away from Aftermath, Game has made a habit of working with such producers as DJ Toomp and Cool & Dre. Now that he is back at the Aftermath compound, Game’s new album will be produced by Dr. Dre, his production team, and Pharrell. The album had been complete and set for a December 8 release date, but Dr. Dre wanted to work on the album.

Due to intervention from Dr. Dre, the album was pushed back. Now, The R.E.D. Album is set for release on February 16, 2010 on Black Wall Street, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records.

Released in 2001, ‘What Would You Do?’ was an accomplished debut single, posting good chart positions on both sides of the Atlantic and appearing like a strong declaration of intent from a group that seemed intent on filling the void left by The Fugees. Despite their follow-up single, ‘Caramel’, having similar success and their self-titled album going double platinum and being nominated for a Grammy, the third single sunk without trace and the group quickly followed suit.

‘What Would You Do?’ is a modern cautionary tale discussing how poverty can affect the choices made by people, especially single parents, to provide for their family. In the song, Claudette Ortiz, the female vocalist of the group, plays a single mum who has turned to stripping and prostitution to support her children and through the protestations of the two guys in the group, Ryan Toby and Robbie Pardlo, we find out that her situation is a product of a bad childhood and a violent father.

With Wyclef Jean as co-writer and producer on the track, it seems to me that this was possibly written as a Fugees song before they disbanded, but while The Fugees excelled at giving credibility to such big topics covered in their songs, in the hands of City High this seems a little like The Saturdays releasing a song about human trafficking. Basically the message seems fumbled, offering little perspective to a well-covered issue.

But, no matter how much the lyrics try to hammer home this warning about the lengths that people are often pushed to just to survive, you don’t really pay attention to the words when you’re singing along to them, and I promise you will be singing along to them. Wyclef Jean knows how to manufacture a pop tune and the inclusion of a sample from Dr Dre’s ‘The Next Episode’ is expertly used to split the track up. The rapping is good but it is Ortiz that shines throughout this and it was little surprise that their next release was ‘Caramel’ which put her centre-stage. After helping to put Destiny’s Child on the map with ‘No, No, No (Part 2)’ Wyclef might have thought he had helped launch another act into inevitable superstardom here, but it seems this was a short-lived, highly successful moment for City High. For me at least ’What Would You Do?’ will be their most memorable moment.

Eminem is believed to have approached Simon Cowell to ask if he can replace one of the X Factor judges on the panel, because they aren’t “global” like he is.

The rapper apparently thinks that the show needs “platinum-selling stars” rather than mentors Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole.

Eminem reportedly said: “No disrespect to the current judges but you need people who are global platinum-selling stars.

“You need to prepare contestants for what it is really like out there, and what sort of pressure you are going to be under.”

The 37-year-old apparently added that “average” singers come out of shows like The X Factor, but if he and Dr Dre sat on the panel, a hip-hop superstar would be born.

However, Eminem supposedly doesn’t have the time to commit to a whole series of The X Factor, but he fancies appearing in an episode or two.

He reportedly said: “I am not sure I would have the time to do it full time, but I would come on and be a guest judge.”

Is it bad that I’m still as entertained by The Muppets as I was when I was three years old? I just saw a new viral of them covering Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody that had my attention like Sesame Street circa 1986. Watch it if only for the first 30 seconds to see Animal’s cameo, he steals the show. If I watch this a few more times it may be stuck in my head longer than The Ladybug’s Picnic and that’s going on 21 years of non stop looping in my brain, is that normal? This video is so well done that I can’t stop thinking about what other music videos Fozzie and the crew should enhance. Here is my top 3hree:

3. Wicked Game by Chris Isaak- This video was my first introduction to sex on T.V. My parents hid MTV from me by deprogramming the channel lineup and telling me that our the remote control was broken, solely because of the gratuitous boobage in this video. I believed this until I was 17 when I found out that you just had to manually type in channel 98 and press enter. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see Miss Piggy getting down with Kermit on a beach? No? I didn’t think so either. The Muppet penguins would probably make a sweet appearance though.

2. Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang- Dr. Dre and Snoop. This the most badass Gangsta rap video of all time. It has chicks, blunts, fortys, low-riders with hydraulics and more chicks. We all know that Kermit was down with the ganja, how do you think his skin got so green? How else would he be able to deal with Miss Piggy’s non-stop nagging unless he was stoned to the bejesus off some sour diesel? The “Caribbean Amphibian” has been wanting to cover this song for years but The Jim Henson Company is worried that he’ll ruin his wholesome image. I’d love to see a car full of Muppets get launched out of a bouncing cholo-mobile while pounding some O.E., tell me you wouldn’t. You can’t.

1. Thriller-Michael Jackson. Michael has been in the news a lot lately for some reason. All kidding aside, before he started getting weird with little boys, he happened to make the greatest music video of all time. It’s amazing that in all the years and all of the

thousands of music videos that have been made since 1983, nothing even comes close. Alright, Mmm mmm mmm by Crash Test Dummies comes close but besides that, nothing. The only thing that could ever top Thriller is if The Muppets are able to replicate it frame for frame. If a puppeteer is able to make Dr. Teeth do the MJ zombie dance then we can easily say that the king has been dethroned. Is this possible? Can this be done without the help of C.G.I? I highly highly highly doubt it. Not to mention that half-dead Gonzo would also be some scary shit.

I don’t know if you all are aware but some of the biggest rappers are now rapping on FL Studio beats. Jay Z kicked it off with 9th Wonder. Then came Franchise Boys, Crime Mob, & Soulja Boy on FL Studio. And now Drake’s producer Boi 1da who made “Forever” with Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Eminem is repping FL Studio.

I personally started off with hardware (MPC 2000XL / Motif) then i gradually moved to software. I think with everyone scrambling for Soulja Boy & Boi 1da’s beats now FL Studio is finally getting the Co-Signs that it needs to be a real force in “High End” music production and not just for bedroom producers & amatuer hobbyist.

I post this just to give yall a FYI on what’s going on and in no way am i telling you to use FL Studio if you want to make hot beats. I use all kinds of beat makng software & sequencers and there is no “magic hit maker” out there. You must learn your craft & study the game and it doesn’t matter if you rocking Hardware or Software. Hot Beats are Hot Beats, plain & simple.

The purpose of this post is to show how software only producers are finally being taken serious. FYI – Even Dr. Dre is rocking Reason now.

If y’allz don’t check out SHOOK magazine then… well you probably should. It rose out of the ashes of Straight No Chaser, made by a bunch of the same people and still with a lot of the artwork done by the legendary Swifty. The main difference from Chaser is that there’s a bit less jazz and a bit more hip-hop. Also comics.

Anways they’ve got a cool little interview with beatmaker and hallucinogen-enthusiast Flying Lotus up at the minute, where he runs down his top five tunes like EVER.

“I think that beat is a perfect beat. The mix is just so perfect, it’s a great reference point for any EQ-ing. A lot of people use Dr. Dre as a reference when they’re mastering but I think that’s as close as it gets to classic Dre mixing. It’s just a dope song. The snare drum on that is from this disco tune. It’s just incredible. Dilla at his finest I’d say. The EQ-ing, the samples, all the melodic stuff that’s happening, it’s so musical. And it’s so pretty. That’s the beat that’s hard to deny. It’s also one of those beats that can blend well with anything, so I play that song in almost all my DJ sets. I think it’s perfect.”

So I dug out Fantastic Volume II and it turns out he’s not wrong: Players is awesome. If you don’t know, get to know.

The Game Puts his Money on Hov in 50 Cent and Jay-Z FeudNew York, NY – West Coast MC, The Game, has had his share of feuds with both Jay-Z and 50 Cent in the past, but according to him, it was all in good fun. Game has taken shots at both artists during some interesting times, where one responded and one didn’t, either way it never really got to a serious level. However, in this recent publicized feud that Beanie Sigel and 50 Cent has sparked up with Jay that has become somewhat of a media frenzy, The Game added his two cents practically putting all bets on Jay-Z.

During an interview with Complex.com, The Game insisted that Hov would come out the victor in this battle if it came down to lyricism. These were his comments:

“Jay-Z will fuck 50 up in a battle! It would be so fast and over with. 50 is funny, but Jay is witty. Jay-Z is not to be toyed with. If he responds, if he feels like you’re really pissing him off and he responds, he’s gonna fuck you up! He would fuck me up, I’m just glad he didn’t respond, so I didn’t have to go dig in my bag and try to fuck him up.

I definitely think that Jay-Z didn’t come at me like he came at any other rappers because I definitely would have been more disrespectful. Once you start a beef with me, you better be ready to go the whole 12 rounds. I will try to chew your fuckin’ ear off, like Mike Tyson. I’ll do it and I think he knew that — I’m disrespectful! So Jay, he did the right thing and just kinda let it die down and I let it die down ’cause it wasn’t anything, really. It was fun and I really admire Jay’s career. I just really don’t care too much for the man himself.”

At one point in time, Game has even apologized to 50 about everything that occurred over the past and admitted that G-Unit was a time in his life that he really enjoyed and would work with 50 again if the time came around, 50 however, will not. With this recent feud, Game states that 50 is just taking a page out of his book when he began taking shots at Hov:

“I already did that Jay-Z thing, 50’s just doing what I’m doing. Nobody went at Jay; I went at Jay. Now everybody wants to get at Jay — not saying anything about Beanie Sigel, that’s personal and I stay out of that. He’s just a man and he’s got all the right in the world, but I feel like I did something that people have been wanting to do, but everybody is scared because Jay-Z is so lyrically inclined to cut your throat and your career in half that nobody wanted to do it. But me? I just don’t give a fuck sometimes.”

At press time, The Game has been recently working in the studio with Dr. Dre in the completion of his forthcoming album ‘The R.E.D. Album.’ That fourth studio album has been set to be released on February 16, 2010 with distribution by Interscope Records.

I agree with The Game 100%, on the real, anyone that would go toe to toe with Jay-Z has a huge competition in front of them. Lyrically, Jay would destroy 50 and no one should disagree. Either way, it is also good to see that Game is back in the studio again with Dre and with Interscope, I’m actually looking forward to the release of his next album.

Eminem to Re-Release ‘Relapse’ as ‘Refill’ Dosage

Los Angeles, CA – Eminem has always been artist who keeps his promises to his fans. News coming of the Shady/Aftermath camp of another Relapse album, not the sequel, but a re-release he has creatively entitled ‘The Refill.’ According to Em, he wants to include new material that wasn’t present or recorded during the release of the first ‘Relapse.’

The Detroit MC recently spoke with RapRadar.com and stated that ‘The Refill’ will include the tracks ‘Forever’ that he did with Wayne, Drake, and ’ Kanye, ‘Taking My Ball, which was recorded for the ‘DJ Hero: Renegade Edition’ game that he did it Jay-Z, and three newer tracks.

These were his comments:

“I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned. Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.”

Even though the sequel to his ‘Relapse’ series won’t be out until next year, he did share some information into the album with DJ Tony Touch during an interview on Shade 45. He stated that the second will be very different from the original:

“[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect. As far as the contrast from the last album to this one, I got a couple of tracks with [D12's] Mr. Porter, two tracks with him so far. Four, possibly five with Just Blaze. The overall basis of this record, I went back to songs that are more emotionally driven. The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there’s some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records.”

At press time, ‘Relapse: The Refill’ has been set to be released on December 21, all according to Interscope.

Keep posted to 24hourhiphop.com for more updated news on Eminem and ‘Refill.’

I was looking forward for this year for him to release the sequel, but I guess him being Em, he must have something up his sleeves. With production from Just Blaze, I can imagine how he will sound on a Blaze beat, it would be quite original.

Jay-Z Scores Number One Hit with ‘Empire State of Mind’ with Video

New York, NY – Even with all the negative news surrounding Jay-Z of late concerning 50 and former Roc member Beanie Sigel, it seems as though none of that is actually affecting him as he’s not even entertaining it. But honestly, why should he? His New York anthem, ‘Empire State of Mind’ has been receiving rave reviews from critics and all his fans. As of this past Thursday (November 19), the record hit number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 charts. Jay-Z has been on the charts before on features, but this marks the first time his album track has hit number one on the Billboards.

The newest NYC anthem has been circulating all over the place as both Jay and Alicia Keys have been requested to perform the hit record literally everywhere. They first performed it together at the MTV Video Awards of this year, then at the Yankee/Phillies World Series game, and again after the Yankees won at the Bronx parade, to recently performing it at the American Music Awards, where it was a huge hit. The record is literally been performed at almost every major location, putting Hov at an all time high. Guaranteed the list will continue to grow.

Jay-Z recently stated the message that the song was expressing:

“Really, ‘Empire State of Mind’ is about inspiration, it’s about hope. I think that’s what connects with people.”

And honestly, Alicia said it best NYC is the” Concrete Jungle where dreams are made of, there is nothing you can’t do.”

Lady Gaga hit up a Best Buy in Los Angeles yesterday. She autographed copies of her new cd for fans that dropped yesterday. Dr. Dre came out to show support, but I believe he was just there to promote his Beats by Dre headphones. Lady Gaga also gave ordered $1,000 in Papa Johns pizza so her fans wouldn’t get hungry waiting.

In 2002, Irv Gotti was on top of the hip hop world. Some were beginning to credit him as the new Dr.

In 2002, Irv Gotti was on top of the hip hop world. Some were beginning to credit him as the new Dr. Dre. He was producing some of the top hits. Gotti had the power to take an average rapper and put them in the top ten. Despite the comparisons to Dre, Gotti did not have a personal relationship with him.

Irv Gotti is best-known for his work with Ja Rule. The average hip hop fan knows Dr. Dre for his work with 50 Cent. Anyone who has been in hip hop for a while realizes the feud between 50 Cent towards Ja Rule and Irv Gotti. The first public diss record, “Back Down,” was produced by Dr. Dre.

Since that record proved to be the one that ended the reign of Murder Inc., Ja Rule and Irv Gotti began feuding with Dr. Dre. It has been nearly seven years since this feud began. Things seem to have calmed down, some, as Dr. Dre has collaborated with Ja Rule and other Murder Inc. acts. The relationship between Dre and Gotti remains nonexistent.

Crooked I, a rapper signed to Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. had the opportunity to finally work with Dr. Dre. It is something that he has wanted to do for some time, now it has happened. He has compared Gotti to Dre. Crooked I said that when he informed Irv Gotti of his possible collaboration with Dr. Dre, Irv was very happy.

He said that Irv said that in spite of their feud, if he ever saw Dr. Dre, anywhere, he would reach out to him and shake his hand. Irv Gotti would do that simply based off of his respect for the man. Despite their past differences, Gotti has always admired Dre and has modeled some aspects of his own career after that of Dre.

Despite his tough talk of the past, it seems that Irv Gotti is finally ready to end this feud with Shady/Aftermath. He has spoken positively of Eminem in the media, more than once, he has watched Ja Rule take a stage with Eminem and shout out Dr. Dre. Now, Irv Gotti is professing his admiration for Dr. Dre.

It seems that Irv Gotti is finally ready to end his long-standing feud with Dr. Dre.

“I believe that Snoop Dogg’s brand is well known around the whole Globe from the business aspect, as

“I believe that Snoop Dogg’s brand is well known around the whole Globe from the business aspect, as well as the music aspect. It was a plan that I put together strategically, it was something that happened along the way.”

Since emerging onto the scene alongside Dr. Dre in 1992, West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg has continued to expand in his music, as well as, becoming business savvy.

With countless movie roles under his belt, endorsements from businesses such as Chrysler 300, Orbit Gum, Boost Mobile and many more, Snoop continues to reinvent himself for the better as he has become embraced by the masses whether it relates to music or in general.

Asking the question “What’s My Name?” back in 1993, all can raise their hands now and answer Snoop Dogg as he has become a household name.

While promoting his 10th studio album, Malice-N-Wonderland, the rapper was able to catch up with CNBC and have a sit down discussion with Maria Bartoromo as he spoke on his beginnings entering the game.

“The first thing I wanted to do was create my own sound and diverse look that was non-similar to anyone that was out or anyone that came out before me. I wanted to also be different and diverse with the dialect that I used. I didn’t want to sound like anybody and I didn’t want to use the same words. I just had a strategic plan as far as just being original and just trying to find out could I really do something that was never done before?”

Most artists lack the balance to maintain the music and the money as Snoop said that he was unable to initially handle the politics of the game. He was, however, able to trudge his way through.

“It was told to me that it was show business. I always had the show, but I never had the business and once I got the business, now I’m the kind of show business.”

Never one to forget those that lent a helping hand, he made sure to give Dre a shout-out in regards to how he was able to gain such heavy exposure with the mainstream.

“Not for me because I had Dr. Dre assisting me, who is one of the greatest producers of all time and I basically just rode his coat-tail and performed to the best of my ability. Through him, I shined and people recognized and they loved me after that.”

Able to see the ramifications of negativity, he added that his lifestyle as a youth made an abrupt transition once he was able to realize the potential that he had musically.

“I dibbled and dabbled into crime in the beginning stages of my adolescence as a young man and once I did I seen that was not the route I wanted to take. I felt that I had too much intelligence and too much mind power to just continue to belittle myself and be put in that position so once I woke up and realized that there was more to me, I maximized my strength and started studying the great musicians and studying the great business-minded people so I could become who I am today.”

With almost 20 years in the game, Snoop has failed to miss any major steps in his career that he hasn’t been able to bounce back from. As time progresses forward, Uncle Snoop is one that will remain timeless as he remains persistent with building his name and staying a commodity in today’s industry of entertainment.

Website – www.musicproducerpro.net

Everyday i get new producers who have been making music for a few days to a few years asking me about VST plugins and what are the best ones? How to they use them? What they are? Are they any good? Well to be totally honest without VST’s music would be pretty boring with everyone using the same around for making music. Programmers make VST’s for produces so they can have many more sounds then what is with the software you purchase, also many VST’s allow you to create brand new soungs so you can be 100% unique with your music production.

VST’s only work with some programs that allow you to use them for example Logic Pro allows you to, Pro tools allows you to however Reason 1-4 does not and you MUST use what you are provided with however you can use samples and do many things with them. Reason is a very powerful music production tool which should never be doubted, even DR Dre is using reason right now and i must admit it’s my favourite for production.

A problem with VST’s is somethings they can get confusing for new users as they are basically a software version of a real digital audio piece of hardware for creating music – so when learning how to use VST’s make sure you are learning from a good teacher! Good look with your music production!

Mer om Oral Bee og Da Playboy Foundation her , her og her.)
.

Drapstrusler

Banner i kirka

At the 40 WATT CLUB in ATHENS, GA members of CHAIRLIFT jabbered with me behind stage.

Any interview that starts with a quote from Dr. Dre is destined for greatness. Although it’s hard for them to escape their iPod commercial fame, Chairlift is proving they have more to offer than the poppy sweetness of Bruises. Patrick, the rhythm behind the band, started the interview and soon we were joined by Caroline. Our talk took us from a desert island with a stereo to dinosaur debates, and although my questions were “too easy” for Patrick, both he and Caroline were great fun.

Anytime you guys are in Austin, I’ll scrounge up some harder questions for you.

Patrick Wimberly: Before we start this, can I just read a quote from Dr. Dre?
Ethan Silverman (Tour Manager): She already started it.
PW: Can I use a quote from Dr. Dre?
Nichole Bennett: Let’s do it.
PW: In 1993, Dr. Dre said “Everybody has something they can do in the studio. I can take a fuckin’ three year old and make a hit record on him. God has blessed me with this gift.”
NB: So, I’m Nichole, and I’m here in Athens, Georgia at the 40 Watt Club with Patrick of Chairlift.
PW: Hi.
NB: We were just starting off with a Dr. Dre quote that we are all still recovering from. I guess to start us off, if you could kind of describe the story of Chairlift would it be a pop-up book or would it be a graphic novel?
PW: Oh definitely a pop-up book. That’s an easy question.
NB: Would it have pull tabs? Like interactive pop-up books?
PW: Yeah. There would be pictures of us dancing. There would be pictures of us meeting each other, with big smiles on our faces.
ES: I picture a pop-up mountain with a chairlift with the two of you sitting on it.
NB: With a little wheel to make it go around?
PW: This is Ethan, he takes care of us on the road.
NB: You guys have a pretty varied sound. For most people who have just heard the iPod commercial, they get this “Bruises” poppy sound. But you’ve really got more of a darker sound as well. How would you say it all ties together? Or how would you describe your sound to a five year old? Or maybe that three year old that Dr. Dre was hanging out with?
ES: Patrick is really good at talking to three year olds.
PW: First off, I’d like to say that I really like three year olds. “We’re in a band called Chairlift, and we play songs for dancing and for having fun. And for exploring your own mind.” We did play a show recently for a bunch of three year olds, and they got up on stage and danced. It was really cute.
NB: So, if you could take five albums on a desert island…
ES: On a deserted island?
NB: A desert…well, you can have your friends.
PW: Do I have a stereo there?
NB: Yeah, you’ve got a stereo.
PW: I would take Sexuality by Sebastian Tellier because I can’t stop listening to it. What else would I take?
ES: You would take a Rolling Stones record, but I don’t know which one.
PW: I would take a Led Zeppelin record. I would take III.
NB: Three of them?
PW: No, I would take the third one. That’s only two. I would take Abby Road. That’s kind of like a standard. I would take the new YACHT record. I don’t have it yet, and it comes out July.
NB: Hopefully you’re not deserted by then.
PW: Yeah, hopefully I’m not getting deserted on this island until after July, and the YACHT record comes out. And one more: I would make a new one and take it with me.
NB: Just take a blank disk with you.
PW: Yeah, I would record it on the island.
ES: Just bring a four-track.
PW: And I would call it All Alone.
NB: What is your favorite dinosaur?
PW: This is another easy question because I would take the…wait. If I could take any dinosaur to a desert island, it would be a brontosaurus.
ES: I would take the new YACHT record.
NB: My favorite dinosaur is the new YACHT record!
PW: Next question.
NB: So you guys are touring. What is the most annoying thing about touring? You guys just came from Austin, and you are zooming around.
PW: The most annoying thing about touring is…
ES: All these free drinks we get.
NB: Oh, how terrible!
PW: No, that’s not that annoying.
ES: It’s being in cool places but not spending much time in them.
PW: Yeah, that’s it. It’s not having enough time in areas that you want to spend time in.
NB: Do you ever read press or reviews about yourself?
PW: Never. Some other members of our band do, but I never do.
NB: If you could replace your arms with anything, what would you replace them with?
PW: Other arms.
NB: Other arms?
PW: Because I need my arms. They’re important to me because I’m a drummer. I would replace them with Al Green’s. He’s got nice arms.
ES: You should replace them with another drummer’s arms.
PW: Well, maybe if I had his arms, I could sing that well.
NB: Crunchy or smooth peanut butter?
PW: Crunchy because it has peanuts in it.
NB: What is one question you wish interviewers would ask?
PW: I wish they would ask…Are you going to ask this one in your next interview?
NB: Yeah, maybe. And you can answer it if you like. If it’s good, I’ll steal it.
PW: Probably not. I’m not that good of an interviewer. I would ask me on this desert island…
NB: With a brontosaurus running around.
PW: …I would ask “What would you name a brontosaurus if you had a brontosaurus on a desert island?”
NB: That’s a good one.
Caroline Polacheck: I’m just going to hump into this interview
NB: Sure.
PW: Caroline is here.
NB: Caroline just arrived.
CP: Is this for radio?
NB: This is for college radio.
CP: I should not have said hump. Hi guys, I’m Caroline. I’m in a band called Chairlift.
NB: Thank you for joining us. Well, we should probably catch her up on the important questions. Mainly, what is your favorite dinosaur?
CP: Definitely a pterodactyl.
NB: That’s a good one. Let’s see, I guess the only other good one is: If you could replace your arms with anything, what would it be?
PW: I take that back. It would be Stevie Wonder’s arms because he can do everything with his arms.
NB: This is true.
CP: So it can be other people’s arms?
PW: Anything counts. I would put one hairdryer on one of your arms.
CP: I would probably have a giant snake coming out of one arm…
PW: And a hairdryer.
CP: No. Wait, yeah how will I dry my hair? Well, the snake can be trained to hold a hairdryer. In its mouth. It would be really long. It would be way longer than an arm size. It would go from here to there. But it would learn to coil for transportation purposes. And then the other arm would be some kind of moving light show with speakers in it.
NB: I’d want to hang out with you. Party time, Caroline’s here. If Chairlift had a catch phrase, what would it be?
CP: We have so many. “My dude.” “It’s on.”
NB: What is the most embarrassing CD in your collection? Or are you not embarrassed by anything?
PW: I’m not embarrassed by anything. I have music that people say I should be embarrassed to have, but it’s not embarrassing.
CP: I have some CDs at my mom’s house that are pretty embarrassing.
NB: Do you guys prefer performing in bigger venues or smaller ones?
CP: I like playing in place with good sound and good lights because that affects the show more than size. Playing in an intimate place and the lighting is really moody and the sound is really spectacular and submersive. That makes for a good show.
NB: I asked him earlier: Do you read reviews about yourself?
CP: Yeah, probably more than I should. Less and less. I think it’s interesting. I don’t take it all to heart. It’s like throwing a ball back and forth. It’s interesting watching your reviews consistently change. Like if all of them are saying the same thing at one point in time and all of them are saying another thing at another point in time, then it’s like “Okay, that’s a legit point you made.”
NB: I was talking to Matt of Matt and Kim last night and he said “I want more haters.” The more haters you have, the more people are paying attention. It changes the way I thought about criticism.
CP: To me the most brutal thing isn’t press because you can take that with a grain of salt, but for me it’s live videos. It freaks me out to see myself play live.
NB: What can we expect to see from Chairlift in the future?
CP: Probably Aaron, Caroline, and Patrick. A lot of those people.
NB: Those three.
CP: Yeah sometimes instruments….sometimes clothes.
NB: I will let you guys go grab dinner, but I have one more question: If you were any animal, what would it be?
PW: A monkey. Easy question.
NB: He was ready. He needs harder questions next time.
PW: Next time you come back why don’t you challenge me a little bit, okay?
CP: I think I would be a killer whale. It seems like it would be fun to be a whale.
NB: That would be really fun.
