Sok évvel ezelőtt Mrs. Thompson 5. osztálya előtt állt, és azt a hazugságot mondta a gyerekeknek, hogy mindegyiket egyformán szereti.
Ez azonban lehetetlen volt, ugyanis az első sorban egy Teddy nevű kisfiú olyan rendetlen és figyelmetlen volt, hogy Mrs. Thompson valójában élvezettel írt a feladataira vastag piros ceruzával nagy X jeleket, és a lap tetejére a legrosszabb érdemjegyet.

Egy napon Mrs. Thompson a gyerekek régi bizonyítványait nézte át, és megdöbbent Teddy előző tanítóinak bejegyzésein:

“Teddy tehetséges gyerek, gyakran jókedvűen kacag. Munkáját pontosan végzi és jó modorú. Öröm a közelében lenni” – írta első osztályos tanítója.

Második osztályos tanítója ezt írta:  ”Teddy kitűnő tanuló, osztálytársai nagyon szeretik, de aggódik, mert édesanyja halálosan beteg. Az élet Teddy számára valódi küzdelem lehet.

Harmadik osztályos tanítója ezt írta: “Édesanyja halála nagy megrázkódtatás a számára. Igyekszik mindent megtenni, de édesapja nem nagyon törődik vele, és otthoni élete valószínűleg hamarosan nehezen elviselhető lesz számára, ha nem történik valami változás az életében.”

Negyedik osztályos tanítója ezt írta: “Teddy visszahúzódó és nem sok érdeklődést mutat az iskola iránt. Nem sok barátja van, és néha alszik az osztályban.”

Ezeket olvasva Mrs. Thompson ráébredt a problémára és elszégyellte magát.
Még rosszabbul érezte magát, amikor a Karácsonyi ünnepen tanítványai fényes papírba csomagolt, gyönyörű szalaggal átkötött ajándékait bontogatta, és köztük meglátta Teddy ajándékát a fűszeresnél kapható vastag barna papírba bugyolálva.

Mrs. Thompson a gyerekek előtt előtt bontogatta az ajándékokat és gondosan nyitotta ki Teddy csomagját. Néhány gyerek nevetni kezdett, amikor meglátta a kövekkel kirakott karkötőt, amiből néhány kő hiányzott, és mellette egy negyed üvegnyi parfűmöt. De a gyerekek nevetése abbamaradt, amikor hallották, ahogy felkiált: “Milyen szép karkötő!”, és látták ahogy felveszi a karkötőt és csuklójára cseppent a parfűmből. 

Teddy Stoddard egy kicsit tovább maradt az iskolában, hogy megszólíthassa:

“Mrs. Thompson, ma olyan volt az illata, mint valamikor édesanyámé.”

Legalább egy órán keresztül sírt, amikor a gyerekek elmentek.

Attól a naptól kezdve nem olvasást, írást és matematikát tanított. Elkezdte a gyerekeket tanítani.

Mrs. Thompson különös figyelmet szentelt Teddynek. Ahogy dolgozott vele, Teddy elméje mintha életre kelt volna. Minél több bátorítást kapott, annál gyorsabban reagált. Év végére Teddy az osztály élére került, és hazugsága ellenére, hogy minden gyerekeket egyformán szeret, Teddy legkedvesebb diákja lett.

Egy évvel később egy üzenetet talált Teddytől, amit az ajta alatt csúsztatott be. Az állt benne, hogy ő volt élete legjobb tanítója.

Hat év múlt el, amikor egy újabb üzenetet kapott Teddytől.

Azt írta, hogy befejezte a középiskolát, az osztályában harmadik volt az élen, és Mrs. Thompson még mindig a legjobb tanítója.

Négy évvel később egy újabb üzenet érkezett, amiben azt mondta el, hogy bár voltak nehéz időszakok, kitartott tanulmányai mellett, és hamarosan egyetemi diplomát szerez, legmagasabb kitüntetéssel.
Biztosította Mrs. Thompsont, hogy még mindig a legjobb és legkedvesebb tanára, aki valaha is volt.

Még négy év telt el és újra levél érkezett Teddytől.

Ebben elmondta, hogy miután megszerezte diplomáját, elhatározta, hogy tovább tanul. Hozzátette, hogy még mindig a legjobb és legkedvesebb tanítója, aki valaha is volt.

Elmondta, hogy az apja már két évvel azelőtt meghalt, és kérdezte, hogy Mrs. Thompson elfoglalná-e a vőlegény édesanyja számára fenntartott helyet.

Természetesen Mrs. Thompson elfogadta a meghívást.

A régi karkötőt vette fel, amiről kövek hiányoztak, és azt a parfűmöt cseppentette magára, amire Teddy úgy emlékezett, hogy utolsó együtt töltött Karácsonyukkor viselte az édesanyja.

Megölelték egymást, és Dr. Stoddard Mrs.Thompson fülébe súgta:

“Köszönöm, Mrs. Thompson, hogy hitt bennem. Hálásan köszönöm, hogy segített nekem, hogy fontosnak érezzem magam, megmutatta nekem, hogy számítok, és az életem érték.”

Mrs. Thompson könnyekkel a szemében visszasúgta:

“Teddy tévedsz. Te voltál az, aki megmutattad nekem, hogy számítok, és az életem érték. Amikor találkoztam veled megtanultam, hogy hogyan érdemes tanítani.”

A DOCTOR and his wife have been fined £5,000 for what a Sheriff described as “the most outrageous breach of the peace I have ever experienced” in his 20-year career.

Dr John McCallum and his wife Michele “ambushed” their neighbour Roslyn Kinder after hearing that she had tried to run over their kids in her SUV.

The Edinburgh doctor – who earns £100,000 a year – blocked Mrs Kinder from parking her car while his wife hounded her for an explanation.

But when CCTV of the incident was shown during a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Sheriff Graeme Warner was left in no doubt.

He told the couple today (Friday): “In more than 20 years of being a Sheriff, I thought it was positively chilling to see on the CCTV.

“Had I been Mrs Kinder, I would have been scared out of my wits.”

The argument – in the middle of one of the capital’s poshest residential streets – left neighbours divided over who was in the wrong.

Even crime writer Ian Rankin – a neighbour of the warring Napier Road families – was cited as a witness, but ultimately did not have to give evidence.

Mrs Kinder, 48, said she was forced to “run the gauntlet” every time she drove her 4×4 out of her house because the McCallums – both aged 49 – “love to taunt” her.

And her five year-old son, who was with her in the car, was left so terrified that he had nightmares of the McCallums and had to see a psychologist.

After leaving her home to pick up her son in September last year, Mrs Kinder returned to find Dr McCallum standing in front of the electric gates to her home.

She said: “I knew Dr McCallum was waiting for me.

“It was very sinister and rather odd as he was staring at me in a threatening way.

“As I started to reverse towards my drive, he stood behind my car and wouldn’t let me past.

“He was staring fiercely and I was scared so I sounded the horn countless times.”

The couple had been told by their three children that Mrs Kinder had tried to run them down earlier that day.

But CCTV footage from her home shown in court proved otherwise.

She added: “Then Michele McCallum came out from her house looking absolutely fierce and started banging on the car screaming, “you tried to run over my children.”

“Then she got into her own car and started sounding her horn and imitating my distress, while laughing and waving to her own children. There was a sense of euphoria about them all.

“Her eyes were red and I thought she was going to assault me, while my son was sitting there terrified. He has suffered serious nightmares since this and we had to take him to a child psychologist.”

“It was causing massive uproar”

Dr McCallum said he “could only do what any parent would do” by phoning police after his kids told him Mrs Kinder drove her car at them.

But Mrs Kinder insisted she had done nothing wrong.

She said: “Police questioned me then viewed the CCTV from our house and were satisfied I had done nothing wrong.

“But the McCallums were loving it, behaving like wild animals, ambushing me.

“I do not know why they behave like this.”

Defence agent David Blair Wilson said: “Mrs McCallum was perfectly entitled to try and get an explanation from Mrs Kinder.

“When Mrs Kinder shut the car door, Mrs McCallum was entitled to open the door to speak to her.

“It does not amount to breach of the peace.”

Sheriff Warner found the pair guilty of breach of the peace and fined them £2,500 each.

He said: “Fortunately we had it all recorded for us to see in court.

“I very much regret to inform you that I found you both largely incredible witnesses.

“The conduct could not possibly have more clearly constituted a breach of the peace.

“Many of the neighbours came out into the street and it was causing massive uproar.

“You should be profoundly ashamed of yourselves and I find you both guilty of the charges against you.”

The couple refused to comment outside court.

This year I’m going to try to play at the Ichthus Music Festival held in Wilmore, Kentucky (about 30 minutes South of Lexington). For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been trying to play at Ichthus for about 2 years straight now. Last year was the first year that they had a TECHNO STAGE. a stage just for dj’s and dance music. even with it being one of the smaller stages, it was incredible how many people would always show up. Every night it was packed. 100+ people for 3 nights straight. That’s a WIN in my book.

I’ve working on submitting my demo very soon. It would mean a lot to me and my O.G. fans who’s been with me since DAY 1 if i got this opportunity. all I gotta do is hope for the best.

Afghanernes reaktioner på krigen er naturlige.
Var Danmark besat af fx. en muslimsk hær, ville reaktionerne være af samme karakter, som det vi ser i Afghanistan.

Man skal hverken være synsk eller efterretningstosse for at kunne forudse dette reaktionsmønster.

Krig gavner kun våbenindustrien.

Havde man brugt bare en brøkdel af krigsudgifterne i Afghanistan, Irak osv. konstruktivt og produktivt, var meget nået.

Hvorfor etablerer man fx. ikke en legal opiumproduktion efter tyrkisk forbillede i Afghanistan?
Hvorfor blokerer amerikanerne for den slags forslag, som virkelig kunne stabilisere landet?

HOPENHAGEN LIVE 7.-18. DECEMBER 2009

I forbindelse med Hopenhagen der finder sted under COP15 er DashMark ved at udvikle en Pavillon til DR. Konceptet for pavillon ligger i forlængelse af DR’s program Ignoranterne, der sætter fokus på 4 unge og deres forbrugsvaner. Gennem en række udsendelser stilles de overfor forskellige udfordringer, der sætter fokus på miljømæssige problemer.

I DR’s Pavillon, vil der bl.a være mulighed for at bekende sine klimasynder og aflægge klimaløfte. Pavillonen vil rumme et energi-genererende gulv, hvorpå der vil blive afholdt Silent Disco. Derudover er der klimacykler hvor du kan cykle dig til en bedre samvittighed. Re-Fashion afdeling hvor der vil blive lavet smarte bære-net.

Alt dette finder sted på rådhuspladsen, som er centrum for byens begivenheder og som vil rumme forskellige pavilloner, hvori der vil være mange forskellige initiativer og arrangementer, som iscenesætter og debatterer verdens klimaudfordringer og fremtidens klimaløsninger.

Byen Hopenhagen bliver et kulturelt samlingssted – en by i byen, hvor klimaudfordringerne bliver taget seriøst på en underholdende, kantet, sjov og anderledes måde, der udfordrer publikum med udstillinger blandet op med debat, koncerter krydret med taler, aktivisme tilsat kunst og leg transformeret til viden. Her mødes det lokale og globale i et fælles håb om en bedre fremtid for klodens klima.

Researchers at the Buck Institute are studying the regulation of mitochondrial genes in the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster in relation to ageing and lifespan. They are trying to understand how mitochondrial function relates to diet and energy metabolism, specifically the molecular mechanisms responsible for organismal longevity and lifespan extension.

It is well known that mitochondrial function declines with age in many biological organisms. “Our study shows that dietary restriction can enhance mitochondrial function hence offsetting the age-related decline in its performance,” said Buck faculty member Pankaj Kapahi, lead author of the study. Their study presented a genome-wide study of the effect of dietary restriction on certain proteins. They reported that while there is a reduction in protein synthesis globally with a low protein diet, the activity of specific genes involved in generating energy in the mitochondria are increased.

They particularly studied the d4EBP protein, which is involved in a molecular signaling pathway that mediates cell growth in response to nutrient availability called TOR (target of rapamycin). They observed that when the activity of d4EBP is genetically “knocked out,” flies did not live longer, even when fed the low protein diet. When the activity of d4EBP was enhanced, lifespan was extended, even when the flies ate a rich diet.

The research calls into question the health benefits of high-protein diets. The long-term impacts of such diets have not been examined in humans. “In flies, we see that the long-lived diet is a low protein diet and what we have found here is a mechanism for how that may be working,” Kapahi said. The study provides a significant advance in understanding the role of 4EBP, a downstream molecular target of TOR, which mediates a switch in metabolism to extend lifespan.

A recent study published in Nature has demonstrated that feeding rapamycin (an antibiotic) to mice inhibited TOR and extended their lifespan.

Below is the summary of their paper published in Cell (October 2, 2009):

Dietary restriction (DR) extends lifespan in multiple species. To examine the mechanisms of lifespan extension upon DR, we assayed genome-wide translational changes in Drosophila. A number of nuclear encoded mitochondrial genes, including those in Complex I and IV of the electron transport chain, showed increased ribosomal loading and enhanced overall activity upon DR. We found that various mitochondrial genes possessed shorter and less structured 5′UTRs, which were important for their enhanced mRNA translation. The translational repressor 4E-BP, the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein, was upregulated upon DR and mediated DR dependent changes in mitochondrial activity and lifespan extension. Inhibition of individual mitochondrial subunits from Complex I and IV diminished the lifespan extension obtained upon DR, reflecting the importance of enhanced mitochondrial function during DR. Our results imply that translational regulation of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial gene expression by 4E-BP plays an important role in lifespan extension upon DR.

Geo’s program ‘Meray Mutabiq’ banned from Dubai

KARACHI: A ban has been imposed on airing of Geo News’ program ‘Meray Mutabiq’ from Dubai.

According to sources, the high government officials of Pakistan exerting pressure on the Dubai government had the airing of the program stopped.

Geo’s administration has said that this step of the government is tantamount to targeting the freedom of expression.

It may be mentioned here that the senior analyst Dr. Shahid Masood was the anchor of ‘Meray Mutabiq’.

This is really amazing no fair trial, no justice, baseless allegations on an innocent mother of 3 children two of which are still missing (if alive) and still they call their selves civilized fighting a so-called war against terror. The imperialists are real terrorists and hypocrites ruling the world with their power,brutal killings,economic exploitation and lies.

They Zionists/Neo-Cons don’t consider others as human beings , they are real fascists and modern face of Nazism.

Can Aafia get the share of civilization and system of justice she deserves? Is there any conscience left in our government which is busy in licking feet of their imperialist masters? NEW YORK – While a defiant Aafia Siddiqui declared that she would boycott her trial in January, a federal judge Thursday rejected her lawyers’ plea that she could not be tried in the United States as they pointed out that the Pakistani neuroscientist’s alleged crime took place outside the country. Ms Siddiqui, who was brought to New York in August 2008 from Afghanistan where prosecutors say she allegedly fired at US interrogators. No American was hit but she was shot in the abdomen and was charged with attempted murder and assault.
In a pre-trial hearing on Thursday, her lawyers, led by Charles Swift, argued that Dr Siddiqui could only be tried on terrorism charges in the US, and not on murder charges. In this regard, he quoted various international regulations.
But US District Judge Richard Berman ruled out the motion, saying that the US courts have jurisdiction if American citizens were subjected to attacks abroad, citing some precedents.
But Ms Siddiqui, who is languishing in a maximum security jail, interrupted her lawyers in US District Court in Manhattan to announce that she did not plan to participate in her trial, scheduled for Jan 19.
“I am boycotting this trial,” she declared. “I am innocent of all the charges and I can prove it, but I will not do it in this court.”
Since the very beginning, Ms Siddiqui has said that she has no confidence in the American judicial system or the lawyers appointed for her by the court – even those retained by the government of Pakistan – and that she wants to make peace and knows how to do it.
She has vigorously protested against what she called humiliating strip searches before she is brought to the court.
Judge Berman said that her trial would proceed after her lawyers and prosecutors visit Afghanistan to interview eyewitnesses to finalise their case.
Lawyers for Ms Siddiqui tried to convince the court that she was mentally incompetent to stand trial, citing in part her refusal to cooperate with lawyers and the reports of a psychologist who said she suffers from delusional disorder and depression.
Judge Berman rejected that argument after prosecutors pointed to psychological reports that concluded she was faking mental illness.
Berman on Thursday rejected defence arguments aimed at tossing out charges against Ms Siddiqui that carry a potential minimum prison sentence of 30 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Before he ruled on the request, Dr Siddiqui said visits by her lawyers were “torture for me” and it was a waste of money for lawyers to go to Afghanistan to interview witnesses because she was not participating in the trial.
“I’m not dealing with them anymore,” Dr Siddiqui said of her lawyers. “They’re just people coming to my door and talking, talking, talking.”
During a break, Dr Siddiqui was led out of the courtroom by US marshals when she would not stop talking loudly. “Take me out,” she said. “I’m not coming back.”
She was not present when the judge made his decision.

…到着早々、急ぎの作業に追われてしまったため、賑やかなログを背景に楽しくバリバリこなしました。ハンターの貪欲さでGetした後は翌日午後にも同イニシャルの方が全滅（off-line）していたようで2度目を回しに行くことに…。え、えへ….すみません、ありがとうございました。殆どの方が無事手に入れられたとのことでほっとしています。:D

背景のスカイボックス+輸血&マイクスタンドセットはruby69killさんのflickrからおじゃましました。10分間隔くらいで回っているLBです。期間は分かりませんが、スタンドマイク用のポーズ3種(Free)やコラボで*dg*さんの素敵なナースOutfitなどもリリースされています〜。

…と言ってもこのSSのポーズはスタンドマイク用のものではなく以前vMotionalのGroupGiftとして頂いたホラーなGestureの一瞬なのですが…。何故だかとても楽しそうに見えるしマイクアクションとしてバッチリでした。１枚目と2枚目はマイク用です。

Willet Missions / Food for the Hungry
Haiti/DR Visit for Hunger Strike

This past week, I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti and the Dominican Republic for Willet Missions to join Food for the Hungry staff from Haiti and the DR, as well as meet up with Kathleen, coming from Ti Riviere. Initially, we ran into some logistical complications which potentially would have made us drive through the night back from the DR border (not advised for safety reasons), however, the staff was very flexible and we were able to arrange our return before dark.

We started by meeting up in Port-au-Prince and driving to the DR border. After meeting up with FH DR staff, we began to learn about the development taking place in many of the communities. The purpose of our trip was to evaluate potential sites in which The Hunger Strike program would end up supporting through child sponsorship, short term mission teams, and community-to-community (C2C). Because the DR and Haiti are on the same island, they end up sharing many of the same poverty-related problems (poor sanitation, malaria, HIV/AIDS, lack of clean water access, lack of education resources). FH DR has had the Child Development Program (CDP) active for many years, so we traveled there to learn from the tremendous team. We were able to visit a community where FH’s C2C program allowed a church from Indiana to provide resources for the building of a school, kitchen, and latrines. FH then supplied the medical clinic with monthly check-ups, and the DR government pays the teachers and food supplies.

On the last day, we traveled across the border back into Haiti to visit a town with 2 communities where Hunger Strike will begin to impact in the spring of 2010. It appears that close to 400 children will immediately be enrolled in CDP, and our prayer is for a fast response to their needs. We had the opportunity to meet with many community leaders, staff, teachers, and children to learn the vision for these areas. We were all unified under the fact that we wanted to see Jesus glorified through our actions, and are praying for many to come to know Jesus as their Savior.

Kathleen is currently serving at an orphanage in Ti Riviere, Haiti, however, was asked to join the FH staff in Haiti near the DR border as a volunteer Community Development Coordinator. Please join us in prayer for this decision. Our original vision for The Hunger Strike was to have Kathleen working alongside the children that we were presenting at concerts in the U.S. That vision is becoming closer to reality, however, includes many more details, cost, commitment, language training, missionary training, and residence in Haiti. Pray for wisdom in this decision.

The Preservation Hall is a 48-year-old French Quarter mainstay known for its deep New Orleans jazz legacy. In honor of the venue and its music outreach program, an impressive group of artists recorded tracks with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for a benefit album called Preservation (what an original title!), due February 16 via RED.

Performers on the record include Tom Waits (who does a version of the Mardi Gras song “Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing”), Andrew Bird, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Pete Seeger, Dr. John, Steve Earle, Blind Boys of Alabama, Merle Haggard, Richie Havens, Jason Isbell, and more.
