Andrew back here again to show you my cheap anime finds from last weekend at the bargain bookstore.  This was the first time I’ve seen anime, or DVDs in general at “Bargain Books.”  All DVDs were $5 new, including box sets.

Ah! My Goddess Season 1 Collection- This is something I’ve been wanting for a while.  Oh My Goddess! was one of the first manga series I read and I have many pleasant memories of it.  I did watch the first couple of episodes of the anime adaptation while it was being fansubbed, but lost track of it like I always do with fansubs. I was actually ready to order this for $30 on Rightstuf from the Media Blasters sale going on now, but 5 bucks sounds better to me.

Magic Knight Rayearth Season 1 Collection- I know absolutely nothing about this series, except that it’s from CLAMP and it looks like Sailor moon, but for 5 bucks I’ll give the complete first season a try.

Shaman King Uncut Volumes 1 and 2- Shaman King was one of those shows I used to watch on the FoxBox aka 4KidsTV.  As a 4Kids dub, Shaman King obviously received a lot of flack from the fans.  I won’t comment on the dub, but I did enjoy the anime to a degree.  I thought “Wooden Sword” Ryu was a great character.  These DVDs are uncut with the original Japanese dialogue.  Unfortunately, these are the only two Shaman King DVDs to come out in America.

Yu Yu Hakusho/Ninku Double Feature- I bought this mainly for Yu Yu Hakusho, like everybody else.  From what I heard, this has a completely different voice cast than the FUNimation dub.  But I’m OK with that.

If you’re wondering what happened to my Goodwill and Big Lots finds, as well as the half dozen rightstuf packages I received in-between, I lost track of time.  My father passed away last month and I haven’t really felt like doing anything since.  This isn’t my personal blog so I won’t bog you down with the details.  But I did manage to take a snap shot of my Big Lots finds, so this is what I got:

Dragonball Z- Trunks/Bardock Double Feature-I wasn’t a fan of Dragonball Z growing up, mainly because I didn’t have Cartoon Network, but now that I’m older I have picked up a few releases.  To be honest, if this wasn’t 3 bucks and more importantly a steelbook, I wouldn’t have picked it up.

Origin: Spirits of the Past (2-disc) and Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles- Two movie releases from FUNimation.  I don’t know anything about either of these, but for 3 bucks…

Steamboy- I have seen this and was rather unimpressed. But for 3 bucks I thought I’d give it another go.

S Club Seeing Double- NOT ANIME.  But easily the DVD I was most excited for out of my loot. I used to watch the S Club 7 series all time on ABC Family when I was a kid, and for some reason I never heard of this movie.  Unfortunately, this was made after Paul left the band so there’s an obvious black hole in this film.

I’ve sort of been jumping around the remastered DBZ episodes, because, well, ADD kicking in yo, and I’ve seen most of the first half of the anime on CN way back in the day so many times that it was really only worth watching the episodes that mattered, which works for DBZ since they draw everything out so much.

I paid more attention however to the Cell Saga and really watching the beginning of the Buu Saga, mostly because my interest in DBZ fell before I finished the Cell Saga, so everything after that is new to me. Honestly, I feel as if there is more of a story in the last half of the series, since the beginning of the Trunks Saga. I mean, there was a story throughout the whole thing, but it’s as if shit didn’t get interesting until more than one Super Saiyan showed up, which I suppose figures.

Actually, it’s really when they start to phase out the weaker characters or ones from Dragonball (Tien, Yamcha, Krillian) and bring on new ones like Trunks, Goten, Videl, and Android 18 that things pick up. Sadly, the only one who was even useful throughout most of the series was Krillian, the others just kept dying. Then there is shifting the main status from Goku to Gohan, which was kind of a good thing really, having him beat the shit out of Cell and then move on to carry the story at least until Buu gave me something different to watch than waiting for Goku to not kill the enemy because he is being all righteous. Gohan just fucks shit up and enjoys trolling the fuck out of Cell in the end.

The only shame about DBZ is that they didn’t get enough female fighters in besides Videl. Course if DBZ was done today, there would be twelve, because we all know that even though toughguys sell in shounen anime, toughgirls (especially tsundere ones) draw double-crowds, if long-running series Naruto and Bleach show. I’m still waiting for Orihime to snap and fuck everyone’s world up, that would bring me back to watching that show in a heartbeat.

Conclusion, I probably should’ve watched Kai.

tl;dr: Does Pan go Super Saiyan? Because it would be A: Badass, and B: She should kick the shit out of Vegeta for the lulz.

My roommate apparently found a “high quality” torrent of Dragonball Z, the entire series, in MKV, each file being 50mb, for a total of around 17GB or so. My first thought was “50mb? Seriously? The exact AIM log was something like:

Kind of restores my faith in humanity that someone understands how to encode something correctly given the source material isn’t new or anything.

As for Dragonball Z, in before everything ever right or wrong about the series. To be honest, I was a serious fan of this shit back during the Toonami run, and really, retrospectively, it is largely a good series, but much like Bleach, it overextended its welcome by turning to pure shit midway into the series, only to sort of emerge at the end sort-of winning. There is only so much grunting, yelling, and spending 5 episodes in the same spot on the screen shouting MY POWER IS MAXIMUM before you get really tired of what you are watching, which is what happened to Bleach for me. Something that was good before that turned to suck usually falls into my pile of “will watch when I feel like it” catagory. Sort of like “Megatokyo” and “VG Cats”, except it’s because their authors can’t seem to come up with a stupid comic on time despite the fact that it is at least one of them’s full time job. I digress.

Sadly, thanks to the overwhelmingly huge popularity of the series association with anything animu (see also: sailor moon, pokemon) it has become sort of a social stigma among animufags to mention DBZ in any public board or local setting. True, there are much better shounen series out there today, least we not forget the shit that has been taking over DBZ’s place in the “King of Shit” pile (Naruto, One Piece) but let’s face it, you loved it and everything on Toonami too, so I really don’t want to hear your shit.

tl;dr: If it’s in Japanese, I’ll hit it. Not so much for that, but the English voices are inconstant thanks to the studio changes a quarter-way through. Not that I really remember them that well. Plus I never saw much of the uncut version of the series, so I figure this outta make it quasi-interesting to watch.

In questo modo vi siete iscritti al campionato e avete anche riciclato il vostro denaro ed inoltre sarete debitori di voi stessi, un paradosso, ma nel nostro caso utilissimo perchè in questo modo non avremo debiti con terze persone fisiche o giuridiche! D.Gray Man – Road Kamelot

So D.Gray Man was dropped because it was all pretty much bullshit. All fillers apparently. Too bad too, because it had such promise to be a great show. I hear that the manga is really good, and I don’t doubt that, but I’m far to lazy to actually read it. However, the anime did have some sick characters, the best of them belongnig to the Noah clan. And the best of these being, of course, Road (Rhode?). She’s awesome, and here’s why:

• Her skin color is actually gray….I wonder if she can still get a cab?
• HORIZONTAL STRIPED SOCKS (or whatever those are)! YES!
• Purple hair! Helloooo, she’s gotta be in my top coolest looking characters list!

But enough about looks, she’ s awesome because she’s got that something about her, sort of an arrogance. Arrogance is awesome, especially when your dressed in high, horizantal striped socks and have purple hair and gray skin. She almost reminds me of Franken Fran with those marks on her forehead, which just adds to how cool she looks. Oh, and she likes candy. Oh, and despite her looks, she’s actually one of the oldest clan members. If you read this wikipedia page about her, you can see even more reasons why she’s one of the coolest characters ever. Sadism? Fucking awesome. Too bad Wikipedia is always sometimes wrong.

Deathnote – Light Yagami

Okay, so the way that he kills people isn’t really “bad ass.” I might even say that it probably doesn’t even feel like you’re really killing someone when all you do is write down their name and picture their face. But, God damn it, Light has got to be the best tactician in anime. Lelouch couldn’t even put up with the likes of Light. I mean, Light planned….well, I don’t want to say exactly. But the longer that the show carried on without a BAM moment, the bigger the BAM moment was when it came. And it was mainly all Light (L was cool too, in fact it took me a while to decided between Light and L..but Light got the better of L in the end, soo).

Light can almost never be outsmarted (until the inevitable end….and a kid beat him? Really? That kid was like….13 years old.)

Denpa Teki na Kanojo – Ochibana

Here’s a character who could be one of my favorites, if she wasn’t just in one OVA episode (two more are slated to come out, however). Personally, I love the hair, I love the weirdness, and if you’re ever getting beat to death by a delusional girl with a bat, she’ll somehow come get you and rescue you. She’s almost the perfect female character.

Detroit Metal City – Soichi Negishi/Johannes Krauser II

Is there anything better than an alter ego/skitso/etc? Nope. Not much. I almost thought about picking the President, because whenever she talks it’s just fucking hilarious. But come on…really?

Negishi is a pussy. Krauser kicks ass. Put them both together and you’ve got a character that sometimes loses his mind, and calls the girl he likes a pig whore, and that he’s going to rape her. Then he makes up some excuse, and she believes him. Negishi kind of sucks, but without him, Krauser would only be a little bit kick-ass awesome. I don’t know if you noticed, but Krauser raped a tower.

D.N. Angel – Emiko Niwa

I’m going to summerize this choice with one sentence:

She encourages her son to steal.

What more can you ask for?

Dragonball – Goku

I mean, come on, Goku wins in this series hands down. You can’t really go wrong with a kid who’s pretty much oblivious to everything around him, including how unnatural his own strength is, and kicks ass all over the place. He’s just fucking awesome. And he’s got a tail. You know, I used to want a tail at one point in my life, just to see what it feels like.

Dragonball Z – Vegeta

See that picture? I shouldn’t have to explain why Vegeta is the best character in DBZ. He’s fucking awesome. He’s a bad ass Sayain with a sick ass voice (dubbed version). He’s also evil (until they make a mistake and make him a good guy). He kicks ass and is the shit. Easily my favorite character in DBZ, and one of my favorite characters ever.

Dragonball GT – Goku/Vegeta Fusion

Yea. I’ll let that video be the explanation. Also, on farther inspection, I need to rewatch this show because I really can only remember bits and pieces.

Hadouken can be either one of two things. First, it can be a vigilant battle cry from an anime charater right before he is about to emit a giant energy ball from his fists, ooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it can be an incredamazing dance-rock-grind band from the U.K. I prefer the latter. Hadouken produce dance songs for hardcore kids, and the track M.A.D. is no exception. Check out the video showing a less-than-friendly anthropomorphic mouse. It’s what would have happened to Mickey Mouse if he hadn’t aced that big audition for Disney all those years ago.

You know, I gotta say that I did not see this coming. The Saw movies are some of the most reliable in history in terms of box office success. However, the upstart known as Paranormal Activity (I’m just going to start calling that PA from now because that title is such a pain in the ass to write out) has now taken down the once might franchise.

Paranormal Activity

PA continues its unsual (but successful) box office behavior this weekend by inching up 12% and jumping from number three to number one. It pulled in another 22 million to bring the total to 62.5 million. This is just extraordinary. To increase like this is very unusual. Granted, the theatre count was more than doubled, but even still, it’s very impressive. Even with all the new theatres, PA is still by far in the fewest number of theatres in the top ten. Despite that, it claims number one. This is definitely going to surpass 100 million now. Considering next weekend is Halloween weekend and it’ll probably get a few hundred more theatres, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this get around 20 million for the third straight weekend. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it stay at number one because it’s only competition is that retarded Michael Jackson movie. I’ve been scouring forums online and there are a shitload of people badmouthing this movie and saying it wasn’t scaring at all, but the hype machine is in full effect now, so I don’t think there’s any stopping Paranormal Activity.

Saw VI

Wow, this really, really sucks. The second through fifth entries in this series all opened to right around 30 million or so. The first one made about 18 million. Now, Saw VI gets fucking clobbered as it appears (finally) people are getting sick of these movies. It only made 15 million, around half of the last four flicks. And considering the terrible legs of these, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this finish with only around 30 million when all is said and done. For so many years now, Saw has ruled Halloween, but it has now at last been supplanted. Despite this, I’m 90% sure that we’ll end up seeing Saw VII next year anyway. Sigh…..

Where the Wild Things Are takes a huge drop for a kid flick, plummeting 56% to 14.4 million. That is just plain not good. Kids’ movies do not behave like this. I guess people must really not like this. Fuck, I thought it looked awesome. Anyway, with a total now of about 54 million, I really don’t think this has even a slim chance of hitting 100 million anymore. That’s disappointing. I still want to see this, though, and perhaps I will sometime soon.

As if it’s bigger than expected opening weekend wasn’t surprising enough, Law Abiding Citizen now has a decent hold, slipping about 40% to 12.7 million. I don’t really understand. I thought it would make about that much last weekend. It continues to surprise me. With a total now of about 40 million, I could see LAC reaching a height of around 60 million or so. Way more than expected.

Couples Retreat rebounds a bit, falling 36% to 11.1 million. The total is now up to 78 million, not half bad. This should finish somewhere in the 90 million range and has an outside shot at reaching 100 million. Haven’t seen this either. I wanted to until it got like a 13% at RT. That is absurdly low. Critics can be wrong sometimes, but 13%? Can’t really argue with that.

Just like I thought, anime adaptations will never, ever do will at the box office. If Speed Racer, Dragonball: Evolution, and now Astro Boy have taught us anything, it’s to stop fucking making anime series into feature films. It just does not work. Astro Boy made an abysmal 7 million this weekend, which just plain sucks. This should fall apart and make a quick trip to DVD.

I don’t understand The Stepfather. First of all, it made decent numbers last weekend. And now it has a decent hold. Why? I hate humans so much. Falling 44% to 6.5 million for a total of 20.3 million, The Stepfather has done half decently. Like I said, I hate humans.

Sucking even more than Astro Boy is Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant. This made only 6.3 million. Wow, that just plain blows.

Next we have Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which earns 5.6 million to lift the total to 115 million. I never really had any desire to see this, but it’s fantastic rating at Rotten Tomatoes made me kind of curious. Perhaps someday down the road.

Rounding out the top ten is Zombieland, now in its fourth weekend. 4.3 million more brings Zombieland to 67.3 million. It has now expanded its lead as highest grossing zombie movie, which I find so infuriating. I did like this movie. I thought it was funny. It wasn’t great or hilarious. But it was funny. But highest grossing zombie movie? Really? A comedy? I know I said all this last weekend, but it still annoys me. Oh well.

So, something finally takes down the Saw franchise and I think it was about time too. Next weekend, the only release is that retarded fucking Michael Jackson movie. As much as I would love to see it fail, I foresee pretty big numbers for it. First of all, MJ’s dead. That can often help box office performance (The Dark Knight) or it can do little (Soul Men). Secondly, if Hannah Montana is anything to go by, concert films can actually open pretty damn big. I could really see anything from like 12 million all the way up to 50. It’s a wildcard but it’s the type of thing that makes the box office interesting to track. Until we meet again.

Neues RPG für den Nintendo DS

(EE-Games Original Preview) Wir haben uns gefragt, wie lange es noch dauern könnte, bis endlich wieder ein vernünftiges Dragonball Spiel auf einen Handheld kommt, dass kein Beat em Up ist, oder mit Hilfe eines Karten-Kampfsystems auskommt. Jetzt ist es bald soweit, dass der DS mit einem neuen RPG bereichert wird!

Ja, RPG’s sind eines der meisten Spielgenres für den Nintendo DS. Die eigentliche Konsole Wii wird da ganz schön ausgelassen. Zwar kommt ein Dragonball Spiel auch für diese Konsole (wir berichteten), jedoch ist es kein RPG, nicht mal ansatzweise. Doch für den kleinen Handheld wird nicht gespart an Energie. Für Fans der Dragonball Reihe ist das vielleicht sogar eine richtige Erleichterung. Denn Dragonball Z als RPG auf dem DS mit guter Grafik, dass gab es noch nicht…

Anime Zeichner goes Nintendo DS

Man merkt an der Grafik, dass ein Profi am Werk war. Der Originalzeichner der Mangas (Akira Toriyama) hat nämlich sämtliche Hintergründe und Levels gezeichnet. Man merkt das auch an der überaus gelungenen Grafik! Zwar sind die einzelnen Figuren wieder eher Pixellastig und erinnern an typische Japano RPG Helden, jedoch hat dieser Style viel mehr Charme wie hässliche 3D-Polygonien. Die Effekte sind auch nicht gerade wenig und für einzelne Kombos wurden auch jeweilige Animationen gefertigt. Wer alte RPG’s wie Phantasy Star IV kennt, und die Grafik etwas mit Secret of Mana und einigen Final Fantasy Teilen vermischt, der kann sich bestimmt vorstellen, was ihn erwartet!

Dragonball Kai

Wer sich wundert, wieso die Screenshots an ein anderes RPG erinnern, dass auch den Namen Dragonball trägt, der muss sich nicht länger fragen, woher er das Spiel kennt. Ja, es ist Dragonball Kai, das für Nintendo DS angekündigt wurde. Ob die Serie den Namen Kai trägt, ist fraglich, jedoch weiß man jetzt wenigstens vom Spiel, dass es nicht als “neu” verkauft werden soll. Denn Storytechnisch leiert Attack of the Saiyans die typische DBZ Saga herunter. Angefangen hat alles mit der Entführung von Goku’s Sohn Gohan durch einen merkwürdigen Typen der sich für deinen Bruder hält. Um ihn zu retten, verbündet sich Goku mit Piccolo und wollen den Saiyajin herausfordern. Wer Dragonball Z kennt, wird sowieso wissen wie es weiter geht, allerdings wird einem eine große, “Open-World” geboten, die ihr auf eigene Faust erkunden könnt. Und das wiederrum ist ein Aspekt, sich ein Spiel wie dieses zuzulegen.

Es gab auch einen Trailer zum Spiel, dieser ist bedauerlicherweise auf japanisch. Aber um sich nähere Eindrücke vom Spiel zu machen, sollte man sich, zumindest vor dem Kauf, das Material genauer anschauen:

Fazit: Bis jetzt wirkt Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans noch nicht wirklich wie ein richtig neues Spiel. Die Welt und die Geschichte sollte altbekannt sein, dass Kampfsystem sieht vielversprechend aus. Leider wurde dabei das System von Buu’s Fury wieder herausgenommen. Auch die Grafik rechtfertigt einen Kauf, zumahl man neben Pokemon Platin kaum so was schönes gesehen hat!

There are 291 total episodes of Dragonball Z. It was so hard to pick my favorites. I had to keep narrowing things down over and over again. If I could, I’d do a list of fifty or so, but that’s just way too long. Dragonball Z is divided into four central (Saiyan, Freeza, Cell, and Buu–though, it could be argued that the Saiyan and Freeza sagas arcs are one and the same) arcs and then sagas within those arcs. I decided, in order to get this list down to a manageable size, I had to limit myself to just one episode from each saga. With that, here we go.

Saiyan Saga: Saiyan Sized Secret

Of all the episodes in the Saiyan saga, I felt this was the best. It embodies what’s great about DBZ, fast paced fighting and ridiculous powers. Goku is pushed to the limit by the saiyan price Vegeta and is forced to use the triple kaioken, knowing that it might destroy his body in the process. He’ll do anything to protect the earth. This is the second episode of their battle, but it’s much more iconic what with the kaioken x 3 and the epic Kamehameha vs. Galick Gun battle. It’s good shit. You can witness the beginning of Vegeta’s pride being torn to shreds as he can’t accept that Kakarot, a low level saiyan, has surpassed him in strength. This episode is DBZ at its finest.

Namek Saga: Incredible Force

The Namek saga has its fair share of good episodes, but it serves mostly as build up to the epic battles with the Ginyu Force and then Freeza himself. This episode is one of my favorites mostly because it takes me back to my childhood. It first aired when I was like eight years old and when Goku powers up and that Ginyu Force theme is playing, it makes me feel like a kid again. Shit is really starting to get desperate and you can feel that a showdown with Freeza is looming. Even Captain Ginyu shits his pants at Goku’s full power of 180,000. I love that power up scene. It’s one of my favorites. Kaioken is just awesome in general.

Freeza Saga: Explosion of Anger

This was really, really difficult to choose. Lots of good episodes in this saga. In the end, I had to give it to the power of super saiyan. I choose this episode, the one after Goku transforms for the first time, because it’s the first time we really see what super saiyan is and what it’s capable of. Goku was nothing to Freeza before this and now the roles have been reversed. Goku is pissed off and fucks Freeza up throughout the episode. This was back when super saiyan was badass shit, before we had seven year old kids transforming like nothing. That was the way it’s meant to be.

Android Saga: The Secret of Dr. Gero

This episode is a perfect example of Vegeta at his very finest. He finally ascends to super saiyan and kicks some ass. He takes no prisoners and hands Android 19’s ass to him without even trying. 19 never stood a chance once Vegeta made the jump to super saiyan. The situation looked hopeless; Goku had been defeated, crippled by his heart virus. Then Vegeta comes in and fucks shit up. When 19 thinks he’s won, Vegeta presses his feet into the android’ss face and then literally rips his fucking hands off. He’s a badass. It’s what he does.

Cell Saga: Silent Warrior

This was another very, very difficult decision. Lots of good shit here. Part of me wanted to choose “Bow to the Prince,” but I just did a Vegeta-kicking-ass episode, so I couldn’t do that. So, Silent Warrior it is! Cell has been fucking shit up and took out Piccolo like he was nothing but trash. Now he’s about to absorb 17 and become even stronger. Not if 16 has anything to say. Android 16 is an awesome and very underrated character. Up to this point, we haven’t seen him fight and we have no idea of his power. Well, the guy is fucking strong. He’s on a level comparable to Cell and matches him all the way. He’s smart too and he rips off Cell’s tail so he can’t absorb the androids. Unfortunately, Cell can regenerate. I honestly would’ve liked to have seen 16 do more in the series, but that’s how things go in DBZ sometimes. Characters just get cast aside.

Cell Games: Save the World

The Cell Games is my favorite saga in all of Dragonball Z. It’s got fucking everything. And it’s got so many good episodes, but the decision on the best one was very easy to arrive at. It has to be Save the World. A full twenty minute episode of the most epic beam struggle ever between Cell and Gohan. The characters have gotten strong enough to destroy entire solar systems now and so much is on the line. Goku has passed the mantle on to Gohan and he has to save the day now. Plus, we have all the other characters jumping in and trying to do everything they can to help Gohan. Then, at the end, when Vegeta finally jumps in and hurls a Final Flash (arguably; the name of the attack is never stated) at Cell, clearly actually hurting him a little, Gohan unleashes everything and obliterates Cell. It just looks so cool. Gohan’s one handed kamehameha as these walls of pure energy surround him. It is so fucking epic. I’m a big Gohan fan and this is the pinnacle of his awesomeness before he becomes a pussy in the Buu saga.

World Tournament Saga: Goku vs. Pikkon

Honestly, this saga is kind of lame. There really isn’t much in here. It’s mostly just stupid shit like Gohan going to high school and going on dates and retarded shit of that nature. It kinda pisses me off. The best part of the whole saga is the first five episodes when Goku participates in an afterlife tournament against the universe’s best fighter. This culminates in the final match when Goku battles Pikkon. It’s a pretty damn cool fight and it really makes me wish that Pikkon were a canon character. He had some really cool attacks and is just a badass character. And then Goku somehow combines the kaioken and super saiyan too, which I guess he can only do when he’s dead. Otherwise, the strain would kill him. Anyway, that’s Goku vs. Pikkon for you.

Majin Buu Saga Part One: The Long Awaited Fight

I love the Majin Vegeta part of DBZ to limit this to just one episode. Plus, after that point, DBZ drags on and doesn’t really have much good shit. So, here I present the first episode from the Majin Buu saga. For over a decade, Vegeta had had all this rage building up inside of him and he had never gotten his rematch with Goku. Furthermore, he felt as though he had been softened by his wife, child, and time on earth. He wanted to return to his cold and ruthless ways from years past. Thus, he allowed himself to be possessed, but only to gain the power necessary to combat Goku. His pride and will are so strong that he can actually resist Babidi, the wizard posessing him. He is so obsessed with fighting Goku that nothing will stand in his way. The fight between these two is epic and fast paced. Vegeta takes no shit and beats the shit out of Goku several times. Were they allowed to finish the fight, I think Vegeta would’ve emerged the victor. But I’m Vegeta fanboy and I’m biased. Sue me.

Majin Buu Saga Part 2: Final Atonement

If I had to pick my favorite all time episode of DBZ, it would come down to Final Atonement and Save the World. I’m still not sure which I’d choose. Admittedly, there isn’t a whole lot of action during this episode. It’s mostly just Vegeta coming to terms and realizing what he has to do. He’s realized that he has been changed for good and can’t reclaim that evil that once dominated his heart. He embraces and son and then prepares to face down Majin Buu. He is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. For the first time, Vegeta is fighting for someone other than himself. The animation of this episode is gorgeous and the last five or so minutes are phenomonal. “I’m going to crush you…. and throw you into the wind,” says Vegeta to Buu as energy swirls around him. I love that moment. Vegeta then gathers all his power and unleashes everything he has. It’s a very poigant moment. For all the awful things he’s done, Vegeta knows that he will go to Hell, but he doesn’t even care. He just wants to defeat Buu and save the people he’s come to care for. It’s epic. I wish the Buu saga could’ve ended with this episode. But, alas, the show goes on.

Fusion/Kid Buu Saga: Spirit Bomb Triumphant

This is precisely where DBZ starts to drag on and get a little ridiculous. It’s downright annoying, but it certainly does have its good parts. I thought about going with “Vegeta’s Respect” for this one, but I’ve given Vegeta enough, I think. Spirit Bomb Triumphant is a good one, too. It’s in some ways similar to Save the World in that the entire episode is an energy struggle, though with some new twists. It is cool to see everything come together at the end of the series. I like that it’s not just one person saving the day. I like that it’s not Goku or somebody unlocking a new super saiyan level and finishing the enemy. Everyone on the entire planet gives their energy to the spirit bomb. They all join together and donate everything they have. We get to see glimpses of dozens of characters dating all the way back to the very first episodes of Dragonball. Over four hundred episodes at this point and so many characters; The Spirit Bomb is a nice way to wrap things up. Thus ends my favorite DBZ episodes. I’ve got a whole bunch of dragonball z blogs lined up, so there will be more on the way. Until we meet again.
