Dreamlinux 4.0 – XFCE 4.6 – Versão ALPHA, 10-09-2009

Introdução:
Dreamlinux 4.0 Xfce4 é a nova geração do projeto Dreamlinux.
Até o momento, o DL4 está num estado muito inicial. Alguns recursos ainda não foram incluídos.
Ser uma distribuição leve e rápida serão os principais objetivos desta versão.

Xfce 4.6.1.2
Pacotes dos repositórios Debian Squeeze.
Gerenciador de pacotes Smart.
Pacotes multimídia do Debian Multimedia Testing.
Wbar substituindo o Engage dock.
New Applications Folder for new Dreamlinux Executable Modules ( DEM ) packages.
Smplayer como reprodutor multimídia padrão.
Novo tema baseado no GTK: Go_Steel com o motor Aurora GTK.

I have been trying this one out a while and it is a very good pre-release version at this point. It is still in the RC4 stage so the final product will likely come out soon, but if it is any better it could possibly work its way into the top position at DistroWatch.com.

It uses Xfce as the desktop so it is light on the memory footprint and very responsive. It is a very customized Xfce but it is easy on the eyes, not flashy just functional. It seems to concentrate on laptop use since it tries to load wireless even while using the LiveCD like Ubuntu. It is a Debian based distribution so it is very easy to upgrade and add programs to, so the user-friendly is built in. The reality of this distribution is that it is very multimedia friendly. The easy installer allows you to install all the codecs for viewing movies and listening to mp3’s without much more than a push of a button. In time I think DreamLinux could be very popular indeed. I know I have posted about it twice now but it is that good. Give it a try and you will see what I mean.

I don’t have any screenshots at this time but if you go to http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/ you will see exactly how it looks and how close it is to being ready. My desktop is using an nvidia ethernet controller that DreamLinux doesn’t like and doesn’t see so I can’t say how it performs on a dual-core AMD processor system but I imagine it will really be fast.

Give it a try, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Especially if you like Xfce as a desktop manager.

Masih di kerjaan yg sama.. “Hunting lite distro linux “. Padahal sebelumnya dah nemu Puppy Linux.

Ceritanya gini,, kmaren gw chat ama temen gw, agung agriza. Topik pertama sebenernya ngebahas Linux Goes To School (LGTS) 2008. Tp berhubung temen gw kyknya msh penasaran sm yg namanya Linux, dia nanya ini-itu ke gw yg sebenernya gw jg msh newbie di dunia linux. Nah saking penasarannya dia, gw restart kompi dulu biar pindah ke ubuntu. Aslinya sih cmn mo ngambil screenshot network config aja tp yg namanya iseng gw klik sini klik sana sekalian promosiin linux. Gw ganti theme ubuntu gw sama yg namanya Slickness, gw ambil screenshot lg mo mamerin. Cmn 1 yg kurang effect2 Compiz Fusion ga bisa diprint screen.

Di situ gw mikir kok ubuntu + compiz fusion + theme slickness gw keren banget ya?? beda jauh sama Puppy Linux di lappy :hammer:. Hehe, bandinginnya keterlaluan. Sayangnya, kmrn gw ga bisa hunting coz dapet kerjaan ngetik dr nyokap…

Nah, pagi ini,, gw mulai lg deh hunting sebenernya sih nyari yg ringan kyk Damn Small Linux, Slitaz, TinyME. Tapi gw juga mau yang tampilannya keren.

• Pertamax gw buka webnya Xubuntu – mayan nih bisa jalan di spek gw
• Keduax gw buka di wiki yg namanya Xfce (desktopnya Xubuntu) – gw nemuin Dream Linux yang make Xfce sbg default desktop environment
• Ketigax gw buka wiki & webnya Dream Linux – wow ini dia yg gw cari. tampilan MacOSX wannabe

Yah harus donlot 700MB, inet 2hari ini  srg down .

Tp tiba2 ada mas Awangga (panitia LGTS yg pernah gw hubungin) nge-add YM gw. Abis ngomongin masalah LGTS, gw blg lg mo donlot Dream Linux. Kebetulan dia punya ISOnya, dia nawarin klo mau dateng aja ke tempatnya bsk. Hehe, moga2 bsk bisa ke sana  & kuat di lappy .

OK, I’ve been testing the latest version of this distro & I have to say, I like it. It keeps you familiar with xfce, while making it closely resemble OS X, of course there is still much to do, they’re trying. This system has been stable, fast & easy to use on my VM with 512MBs RAM, something OS X would have trouble with. Stay tuned for the full review, & also a review of openSUSE 10.3, but thats not all I should have a guide to install a few distros up soon enough.

After 5days, installed Kubuntu7.04 64bit and CentOS 5.0. The next day, installed Slackware11.0, but the grub didnt show the triple boot.
Then from CentOS5.0, I changed the grub.conf to boot kubuntu. Somehow I couldn’t enable it to boot in slackware.

Another few days with CentOS, it was time to try more distributions. This time I found DreamLinux, Mandriva and Linuxmint. All the 3 installed smoothly on my PC.
I found traces of ubuntu in Linuxmint and it was slow too.
XFCE rocks in DreamLinux and Mandriva plays my mp3 songs

These will stay for a while, until I get my kubuntu 7.10 64-bit .
