Just finished reading Barack Obama’s memoir ‘Dreams from My Father’. Interesting

Just finished reading Barack Obama’s memoir ‘Dreams from My Father’. Interesting to read his thoughts and comments about male identity and roles in today’s society. He seems to have wrestled with this considerably over the years and comes across as very thoughtful. Although for me the book raised more questions about what he stands for and believes than it answers. He is however probably very similar to many other people in this respect although perhaps unusual for a politician.

Barack emphasizes the fact that we humans have a deep need to feel part of something, to define an identity and to belong to a social group. Whilst I cannot truly comment on how it feels to be identified primarily negatively by skin colour and to suffer the many shades of discrimination and racism as a result, I think most humans can appreciate what it means to be an outsider in some respect however small and the deep need not to feel in this way.

I wondered whether Barack has since considered psychology and biological drivers in our view of the world? I think these are much stronger influences on all our behaviours and social environments than we like to imagine; the ‘alpha male’, the adaptive more facilitative patterns of female behaviour, group bonding and resulting hard treatment of perceived difference and so on. All these can be seen in animal groups from adolescent male squirrels causing tree damage whist outsiders and challenging for status, to female gorillas having contact out of sight with a male outside the group.

I accept however that empire building, colonial attitudes and basic fighting for control of resources have impacted large areas of the world and disadvantaged many millions of people. As someone whose culture, economic wealth and world view point has developed on the back of this, I do find it very difficult to know what to do myself to acknowledge, move on and make amends for this situation. It is not enough to say it is only behavioural and leave it at that.

Personally I believe that we in the UK should be looking to create a ‘decolonialisation of the mind’ for our modern culture, to move things forward and leave the past behind. We need to accept that our role is no longer as leader of an empire or even of a former empire in the form of the commonwealth. We feel that we punch above our weight in world affairs but in a way which is not advantageous to the world or even any longer in our own interests; witness Iraq and possibly Afghanistan. The ridiculous headlines in the UK about the new EC President and Foreign Affairs Representative are also typical:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/nov/20/eu-stitch-up-demeans-democracy

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2738610/Herman-Van-Rompuy-is-first-President-of-EU.html

We do not need ‘big hitters’ making headlines and trying to stamp a national interest on proceedings but practical input from skilled and knowledgable people such as Herman Van Rompuy and Catherine Ashton. We need to move on from our past and look for a more neutral, co-operative future with our global neighbours. We need to accept that we have more to learn from them rather than a paternalistic, superior view of the opinions and input of others. My hope is that Barack Obama will help us realise this and will be the first of many to help us move away from the old order.

But his neanderthal of a wife is also a walking contradiction.

Michelle contradicts Obama nativity story
Divulges Ann Dunham was ‘very young and very single’ at birth of U.S. president
Article: WorldNetDaily

In little noticed remarks, Michelle Obama stated at a public event that her husband’s mother, Ann Dunham, was “very young and very single” when she gave birth to the future U.S. president.

Her comments further undermine the official story as told by Barack Obama – that Dunham was married to his father, Barack Obama Sr., at the time of birth.

The remarks were made by Michelle Obama during a July 2008 round table at the University of Missouri. Obama was responding to criticism of her husband’s presidential campaign speeches about fatherhood and faith-based initiatives.

Michelle Obama explained her husband understands the struggles of low-income families.

“He understands them because he was raised by strong women. He is the product of two great women in his life. His mother and his grandmother,” she said.

“Barack saw his mother, who was very young and very single when she had him, and he saw her work hard to complete her education and try to raise he and his sister,” Michelle Obama said.

Her remarks about Dunham being “very single” when she gave birth to Barack Obama were also quoted last year on a blog posted at MSNBC.com. The remarks, however, contradicted previous claims President Obama made about the circumstances of his birth.

Later in her roundtable comments, Michelle Obama stated her candidness might get her into trouble:

“So in my famous Michelle Obama honesty that sometimes gets me in trouble, I have to say that when Barack approached me, when he was seriously considering this run for president, I said, ‘No way. Absolutely not. Please don’t.’“

Yeah right, MicHELLe. You were about to kick that faggot to the CURB until you found out he was going to be in a position of power. Don’t lie. We can see right through you. You’re all about the status. The taxpayer funded dinner dates, trips overseas, family vacations, and grotesquely hideous outfits by designers who clearly have NO idea what they’re doing. Sorry, the article continues:

According to Hawaiian documentation, Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961 to Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr.

Dunham, a white American of predominantly English descent from Wichita, Kan., was 18 years old at Obama’s birth. Obama Sr. was a foreign student from Kenya, which at the time was under British jurisdiction.

The official story claims Dunham and Obama, Sr. were married Feb. 2, 1961. The pair separated two years later and they divorced in 1964. Obama’s father returned to Kenya and saw his son only once more before dying in an automobile accident in 1982.

In actuality, it isn’t clear Obama’s parents were married, since official records have never been produced showing a legal ceremony took place. No wedding certificate or photograph of a ceremony for Dunham and Obama Sr. has ever been found or published.

In his book “Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage,” former Time magazine contributing editor Christopher Andersen elaborates: “There were certainly no witnesses (to the alleged civil marriage ceremony) – no family members were present, and none of their friends at the university had the slightest inkling that they were even engaged.”

Andersen further quoted Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, a self-described friend of Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham in 1961, as saying that “nobody” was invited to the wedding ceremony.

Obama himself, on page 22 of his autobiography “Dreams from My Father,” wrote of his parents’ wedding:

“In fact, how and when the marriage occurred remains a bit murky, a bill of particulars that I’ve never quite had the courage to explore. There’s no record of a real wedding, a cake, a ring, a giving away of the bride. No families were in attendance; it’s not even clear that people back in Kansas were fully informed. Just a small civil ceremony, a justice of the peace. The whole thing seems so fragile in retrospect, so haphazard.“

Obama’s birth story is further complicated by the fact that when Barack Obama Sr. arrived in Hawaii at 23 years old in September 1959, he already had been married, since age 18, to a Kenyan woman named Kezia Aoko, who was allegedly pregnant with Obama Sr.’s first child when he abandoned her in Africa in 1957.

Obama Sr. ultimately had four children with Aoko. WND staff writer Jerome Corsi concluded there is no evidence to suggest Obama Sr. was divorced from Aoko either in Kenya before he left for Hawaii or in Hawaii prior to the alleged marriage with Dunham.

On page 126 of “Dreams from My Father,” Barack Obama Jr. described his father’s marriage with Aoko in a quotation in which Dunham says, “And then there was a problem with your father’s first wife … he had told me they were separated, but it was a village wedding, so there was no legal documentation that could show a divorce.”

Dunham apparently was suggesting bigamy was not involved in her alleged marriage since Barack Obama Sr.’s marriage to Aoko was a “village wedding” that possibly would not have been recognized as legitimate by Hawaii civil law. Barack Obama Sr. was reportedly a polygamist who had at least four wives, including Ruth Nidesand, who Obama Sr. met at Harvard and became his wife after she followed him back to Kenya.

Evidence challenges claim over birth address

In addition to questions about Dunham’s marital status, WND previously uncovered documents strongly suggesting Barack Obama Sr. and Dunham did not live at the address listed in birth announcements in two local papers – 6085 Kalanianaole Highway in Honolulu.

But WND has confirmed the house at that address was owned and occupied in 1961 by another longtime resident Hawaiian couple. Moreover, throughout the time he was in Hawaii, Barack Obama Sr. maintained his own separate apartment at 625 11th Ave., within walking distance of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he was enrolled for studies in the fall term 1959.

Raising further questions, WND also reported Dunham was registered for college classes in Seattle only 15 days after reportedly delivering her first-born child in Honolulu, according to school records.

Here’s more insight into the long laundry list of thugs, murderers, socialist, and communists with whom our pretender to presidency CHOOSES to associate.

If You Are Known by the Company You Keep, What do Obama’s Associates Say About Him?

October 26, 2009 by Bob Livingston

In the Aesop’s Fable, The Ass and His Purchaser, a man looking to buy a donkey wanted to test the animal before completing the purchase. So he put the donkey in his field with the other donkeys to see what would happen.

The donkey immediately strayed from the majority of the herd and cozied up to the laziest donkey of all.

Seeing that, the man led the donkey back to his owner. When the owner asked how he could judge the donkey’s character so quickly the man explained, “I didn’t even need to see how he worked. I knew he would be just like the one he chose to be his friend.”

A person is known by the company he keeps.

Fables are popular because they tell the story of the way things in life really work. In business, when someone takes over a department or company, that person promotes those he or she likes to positions of authority. The new manager seeks out those who have a philosophy, work ethic and disposition similar to his.

One would expect a president to do the same thing. After all, a president is elected—supposedly—based on the vision, ideas and proposals he championed during the campaign. It would then make sense that he would put in place those who supported his vision and would therefore be enthusiastic in working to achieve it.

So who are President Barack Obama’s friends, and who has he put in charge of the effort to enact his policies? And what do the friends he has chosen and the people he has put in position of authority in his administration say about him?

Following, in alphabetical order, is a list of some of Obama’s friends, advisors and people charged with enacting his policies:

William Ayers—Now a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ayers spent 10 years as a fugitive in the 1970s when he was part of the domestic terrorist organization known as the Weather Underground. In the early 1970s the Weather Underground was responsible for bombing the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., and setting a bomb that didn’t go off at a military induction center in Oakland, Calif. The group also murdered two policemen and a Brink’s truck driver in a botched armored car robbery, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) website. Ayers surrendered to face charges in the 1980s, but the charges were dropped because of improper surveillance. Coincidentally, on Sept. 11, 2001, Ayers was being interviewed about a book he had written and he told the interviewer he didn’t think the Weather Underground had done enough. Ayers and Obama first crossed paths in Chicago in the 1990s and served together on the board of the not-for-profit Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a boondoggle to spend tens of millions of dollars for their pet “education” projects. Obama downplayed his friendship with Ayers as casual, but evidence indicates their relationship was much more. Many now believe that Ayers penned Obama’s “autobiography” Dreams from My Father.

Carol Browner—Obama’s Director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, Browner is an avowed socialist. She served as one of 14 leaders of Socialist International’s Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for global governance and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change, according to an article in The Washington Times. The group supports socialism and has been harshly critical of U.S. policies. She is also a supporter of smart growth policies, as we have described previously. Browner also served on the board of Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection, though her name was scrubbed from the site after Obama tapped her for the director’s position. Not surprisingly, Obama’s transition team told The Times Browner’s membership in a socialist organization was not a problem.

Frank Marshall Davis—You won’t find Davis’ name on an organizational chart of White House staff, but he was instrumental in forming the political philosophy of Barack Hussein Obama. Called “Uncle Frank” in Dreams from My Father, Davis was a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), according to a 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii. Obama has admitted to spending time with Uncle Frank—who he cryptically describes as being a person of some modest notoriety at one time—and listening to his poetry and getting career path advice. Davis may also have been a pedophile. Writing under the pseudonym Bob Greene, Davis wrote a debased pornographic novel entitled, Sex Rebel: Black (Memiors of a Gash Gourmet), in which he describes group sex encounters and sex he and his wife had with a 13-year-old girl named Anne. Davis died in 1987.

Anita Dunn—As White House Communications advisor, Dunn has been seen a lot lately as the face of the Obama administration’s strategy to try and discredit Fox News. She is described on Politico.com as a veteran Democratic strategist and top advisor on Obama’s presidential campaign. As the war between the Obama White House (see more under Rham Emmanual) and Fox has escalated, videotape has surfaced showing Dunn gloating over how the campaign “controlled” the media. Another videotape surfaced showing Dunn speaking at a June high school graduation ceremony where she praised Marxist/Communist Chinese Premiere Mao Zedong as one of her favorite philosophers and one of the two people she turns to most. It’s difficult to understand how Mao had time to philosophize as he was busy killing somewhere between 50 million and 70 million of his country’s citizens during his 27-year reign of terror.

Ezekiel Emanuel—The president’s Special Advisor for Health Policy, Ezekiel is brother to White House Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel. Ezekiel is the source of Sarah Palin’s death panel idea. This Emanuel has written that he believes many healthcare treatments should be denied to those under 15 and over 65 to save money, the rationale being that only people between 15 and 65 are beneficial to society.

Rahm Emanuel—Obama’s White House Chief of Staff, Emanuel is a thug Chicago politician who once sent a two-and-a-half foot long, dead and decomposing fish to lobbyist Allen Secrest to express his displeasure. He’s known for his full-time use of gutter language and once told then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair just before an appearance with Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal: “This is important. Don’t f**k it up.” He also coined the phrase, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” He’s also behind the ridiculous policy of starting a fight with television news agency Fox News.

Chai Feldblum—Nominated by the president to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Feldblum signed a radical 2006 manifesto which endorsed polygamous households and argued traditional marriage should not be privileged “above all others,” according to a report in Catholic News Agency. According to a statement from the White House, Feldblum has worked on advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights…” She is co-director of Workplace Flexibility 2010, which she described at a UCLA symposium as a homosexual rights group that aimed to change the American workplace and revolutionize social mores, according to a report on the WorldnetDaily website.

Patrick Gaspard—White House Political Director, Gaspard was formerly a lobbyist for Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the organization that sent its thugs out to disrupt Tea Party protests and stir up trouble at town hall meetings in August. Prior to that, Gaspard worked as national field director for American Coming Together (ACT), a sub-group of the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). ACT was fined $775,000 in civil penalties by the federal government for various voter fraud offenses. You can read more about ACORN here.

Eric Holder—The Attorney General of the United States is an anti-gun racist who earlier this year referred to the United States as “a nation of cowards” on race relations. He also has an interesting take on justice. He worked to convince President Clinton to pardon billionaire fugitive Mark Rich (convicted of fraud and racketeering), Weather Underground (where have we heard of that organization before?) terrorists Susan Rosenberg and Linda Evans, and he declined to prosecute New Black Panther brutes who stood over a Pennsylvania polling station with baseball bats intimidating voters. Oh yes, he also wants to bring Guantanamo Bay prisoners to the United States.

John Holdren—Obama’s Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is not only an abortion supporter, he is an abortion nut who believes that compulsory abortions could be sustained under the existing U.S. Constitution if a population crisis arose. He also supports mass sterilization of the U.S. population through lacing the country’s water supply with drugs. Holdren authored with two other people a book called Ecoscience promoting their loony ideas about population control and One World Government—or what they called a Planetary Regime—to regulate international trade, the food supply and determine the optimum population for the world.

Valerie Jarrett—The New York Times called Jarrett, Obama Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, the ultimate Obama insider. She has also been called the other half of Obama’s brain. She’s another one of those Chicago thug politicians who has gamed the system—including operating as a slum lord—for her own benefit. Her company, Habitat, Inc., managed the Grove Parc housing complex which was located in the district represented by State Senator Obama. As state senator, Obama coauthored a bill to give tax credits for developers which Jarrett used on the complex. As U.S. senator, Obama pressed for increased federal subsidies for like projects. Despite receiving government funds and tax credits, Grove Parc was ordered demolished because of its deplorable condition. She also served the administrations of Chicago mayors Harold Washington and Richard Daly, both scandal-plagued. Washington, by the way, was backed in his bid for mayor by Chicago’s Communist Party and the local branch of the Democratic Socialists of America. Called by the Washington Post a tutor to Obama and his wife Michelle, Jarrett is the step-daughter of Chicago journalist Vernon Jarrett. Vernon Jarrett was an associate of Frank Marshal Davis, Obama’s mentor, when Davis lived in Chicago prior to moving to Hawaii.

Kevin Jennings—This former school teacher and long-time gay rights activist was named Obama’s Safe Schools Czar. He has accused Baptists, the Boy Scouts and sports fans of anti-gay bias, and advocates a special high school for gay teens and gay-straight alliance clubs for every high school in America, according to a report in CNSNews.com. He believes that kindergartners should be taught to respect all sexual orientations while insisting that “ex-gay messages” and “Christian values” are misused to isolate or denigrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and have no place in the nation’s public schools, CNSNews.com reported. Oh yeah, he also supports pedophilia. While Jennings was a teacher, a minor student told Jennings that he was having gay sex with an adult. Jennings covered it up. He also has praised Harry Hay, a defender of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), which promotes legalization of sexual abuse of young boys by older men.

Van Jones—Once Obama’s White House Environmental Advisor, Jones was fired in the dead of night on a holiday weekend after a video surfaced in which he called Republicans a bodily orifice, and after a controversial document he signed was revealed. That document accused former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney of either planning or knowing about ahead of time the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In addition to being a 9/11 Truther, Jones is an avowed Communist. He was appointed to his position by Valerie Jarrett, who has been seen on video praising Jones and saying she and Obama had been watching Jones for a long time.

Mark Lloyd—FCC Diversity Czar, is also known as the man who wants to stifle free speech in America like Hugo Chavez does in Venezuela. He has been videotaped saying the Chavez revolution in Venezuela was almost lost because of the privately-owned media. Chavez, of course, is the Marxist dictator of Venezuela, personal friend to Communist dictator Fidel Castro of Cuba and Islamic terrorist dictator Mahmoud Ahmadenijad of Iran. In 2006, while at the liberal Center for American Progress, Lloyd wrote a book entitled, Prologue to a Farce: Communications and Democracy in America. In it he presents the idea that all private broadcasters should be charged licensing fees at a rate equal to their operating expenses and that money should go to the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). In a 2007 report entitled The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio, Lloyd complains about the fact that people want to listen to Christian and conservative talk radio rather than liberal radio, and lists ways the Federal government can fix the “problem.” His solution would include caps on the number of local stations a corporation can own, ensure greater local accountability on radio licensing and require owners who fail to fulfill their obligations to pay a fee to support PBS.

Cecelia Munoz—Now White House Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, Munoz was previously Senior Vice President of The National Council of La Raza, the largest Hispanic lobbying organization in the country, which has called national anti-immigration groups “hate groups.” La Raza, which literally translates The Race, funds extremist groups and supports illegal immigration as a way of obtaining political power. The group advocates taking the Southwest U.S. for the purpose of creating a new Hispanic state.

Cass Sunstein—Recently confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Administrator of the White House Office of Administration and Regulatory Affairs, Sunstein is a Harvard Law School professor and dingbat who has—in writings and speeches—called for a ban on all hunting and claims that animals should be represented by lawyers in animal abuse cases. He is a socialist who has advocated for gun control and heavy regulation of the Internet. He also wrote in his 2008 book, Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness, that he believes people’s organs can be harvested without their consent. Sunstein would like to see personal email communications regulated by the government and believes the Internet is anti-democratic because of the way users can filter out information of their own choosing.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright—Obama sat in Wright’s church for 20 years yet claims to have never heard any of the hate-filled racism that crossed his lips. Wright’s anti-Semitic, anti-American sermons came to light during the campaign. Among his claims: the U.S. government was responsible for infecting blacks with the virus that causes AIDS, America was responsible for the 9/11 attacks—“the chickens have come home to roost”—and Jews are responsible for ethnic cleansing in Gaza and are pressuring Obama associates to keep Wright and Obama separated.

These are just a few of the folks who have occupied or currently occupy Obama’s inner circle. He was passed off by the mainstream media as being a centrist and moderate, but many of friends are anything but that, and some are quite radical. And when you parse some of his words or find video or audio from several years ago you know that Obama himself has some radical views.

But the media ignored Obama’s ties to radicals and communists. That, and Obama’s soaring rhetoric led many otherwise thoughtful and good people down the primrose path, and they voted for him without realizing what they were getting.

But as the truth gets out about his associates, the cover is coming off. He’s becoming known by the company he keeps, as well as his own deeds.

Which modern book has most shaped world literature the most?

Gabriel García Márquez’s seminal novel ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ is the piece of writing that has most shaped world literature over the past 25 years, according to a survey of international writers

Barack Obama’s memoir, Dreams from My Father, also makes an appearance on the list.

Salman Rushdie made the list twice, for The Satanic Verses and Midnight’s Children, while VS Naipaul was nominated for A House for Mr Biswas, Ben Okri for The Famished Road and JM Coetzee for Disgrace.

This is all very well, but books full of wild talk about decadence and beauty should be banned.

Who needs books.

Go listen to the preacher.

That’s all I ever needed.

Books are written in the optimistic belief that open debate beats scuttlebutt – but really, they just cause deep, dark currents of fear amongst my subjects. Furthermore, the plebians, not knowing how to interpret certain facts and figures correctly, may end up vilifying the ruling class for becoming fat off the sweat of the unfortunates.

That never ends well, and must be avoided at all costs.

Get that agony off your face peasant!

Yours, while looking with a aesthetes eye at the wild modernist innovations of 1920’s interior design, which has been slowly dissipated by a new gospel of icy austerity and self-control.

Righteous

p.s. The more I scrub it, the more it bleeds. Life is becoming monochrome before my eyes. I think I am metaphorically bleeding to death and am regressing through the colour spectrum.

So I said, stop pulling my leg. Horrible thought. But he came again–I really wrote it, the wording was similar. I said I believe you probably heavily edited it. He said–I wrote it. I said–why would I believe you, you’re a liar.

He had no answer to that. Just looked at me. Then he turned and walked off, and said again his bit about my proving it and splitting the proceeds.”

I really feel sorry for the winners of the Nobel prizes. Many of the recipients have spent a lifetime seeking solutions. Yet, this year, because of the ridiculous way in which the Nobel committee awarded a totally unaccomplished individual the Nobel Prize for Peace, they have demeaned all Nobel award winners. Let’s hurry and make our beloved USA more like Norway. It is the model for the rest of the world as the perfect place to live.

The following link to BLOG of a Chicago area blogster who has done much research into Ayres writing Obama’s books and bring forth solid proof of same. Give it a look!

http://experimentumcrucis.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-evidence-that-ayers-ghostwrote.html

Some of the comments are also right on the money and point out that Barack Hussein Obama is a bald faced liar and is taking credit for something (and profiting from) the work of someone else.

In review, it figures that Obama would do something like this and continue to do such things (taking Alice Palmer’s place on the ballot, accepting the Nobel prize when he did nothing to earn it) This man is unbelieveable as to the heights he will go to in order to feed his oversized EGO! I am sure there is more to come. In fact, it is entirely possible that the reason behind Barack Hussein Obama’s constant pusihing for a Healthcare Bill being passed, is so he can say he did it and use that as a base for his 2012 Presidential bid! Nothing this man does any longer surporises me.

In a surprising, if not stunning, announcement, President Barack Obama has been awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

The conferring of the prize comes just nine months into his tenure as president, and is particularly noteworthy because he assumed office just two weeks before the February 1 deadline.

In its statement, the committee cited Obama’s role in creating a new climate in international relations, referring to his multilateral approach in tackling some of the world’s most pressing problems: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

To date, while Obama has acknowledged the importance of these issues, his actions on them have yet to yield much specific results.

While it’s been nearly impossible to live in the United States, and even the world, and not know about Obama, here are some books that people interested in either him or other prize winners might find interesting:

Dreams From My Father: This is the bestselling memoir Obama wrote about his childhood and coming of age. According to a recent book about the Obamas’ marriage, Bill Ayers assisted with the writing.

The Audacity of Hope: This is more of a political primer that Obama wrote in advance of his ultimately successful presidential run. He advocates the same type of nonpartisan tone the committee mentioned in its conferring the award on him.

Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage, by Christopher Andersen. This recent book traces the relationship between Obama and the woman he calls the rock of the family.

Social Change 2.0, by David Gershon. Someone who has worked to mobilize large numbers of people for social change during the past 30 years, Gershon writes toward the end of the book how Obama repeatedly throughout the campaign articulated a unifying, rather than a divisive vision. He gives Obama’s speech about race in Philadelphia as an example.

Tomorrow is Another Country, by Allister Sparks. This book by veteran journalist Sparks gives the back story on the negotiations between the African National Congress and the National Party in South Africa that culminated first in Nelson Mandela’s 1990 release from prison, and later in the country’s first free and democratic elections in April 1994. Mandela and F.W. de Klerk shared the 1993 prize.

Vietnam, by Stanley Karnow. This thorough work may cast doubt on the Nobel committee’s 1973 conferral of the prize on Henry Kissinger, whose role in the secret war in Cambodia more than undid any diplomatic moves he made toward peace.

Unbowed, A Memoir, by Wangari Maathai. This well written memoir depicts the remarkable life of Maathai, who in 2004 became the first black woman from Africa ever to win the prize. Maathai braved threats to her life and led a movement dedicated to the empowerment of women and the planting of literally millions of trees. While telling her story, her work also discusses much of Kenyan colonial history.

I, Rigoberta Menchu, by Rigoberta Menchu. The claims of the 1982 winner Menchu have been shown to not be completely true, and some supporters say that the book illustrates a larger truth by showing the oppressive conditions under which many people in Guatemala, especially its indigenous population, endured.

And if research can be printed about Michelle’s ancestors to the 1800’s, why can’t we see one simple long form birth certificate from 1961 for her husband?

“Andersen dedicates six pages to this story. If true, his claim deserves attention for any number of reasons. First, it reveals Obama to have been a shameless liar in his disavowal of Ayers during the campaign. Second, it suggests a dangerously intimate relationship with a man whose hatred of the United States borders on the pathological. And third, it makes a total sham out of the literary world’s anointment of Obama as “the best writer to occupy the White House since Lincoln,” the understanding on which the Obama genius myth is based.”

Is Bill Ayers Now Playing Conservatives? Why He Should Not be Taken Seriously

In October 2008, Jack Cashill penned a much discussed blog, in which he suggested the possibility that Bill Ayers actually was the ghost writer for Barack Obama’s powerful memoir, Dreams From My Father. Later, he wrote yet another blog, reporting about many who sent him more material that they thought would corroborate his original suspicions about authorship of Obama’s first memoir.

Responding to Cashill’s work, I wrote my own blog about whether or not Bill Ayers wrote Dreams From My Father. I ended with some skeptical questions that must be addressed, particularly surrounding the assertion by author Christopher Andersen in his new book, Barack and Michelle: Portrait of a Marriage. Andersen gives no sources in his book for his assertions. Hence one cannot verify whom he spoke with, and whether or not the stories he tells about Ayers writing the book are true. Indeed, when queried a bit later by Howard Kurtz, Andersen backtracked and denied that in his book, he had said that Ayers wrote it. I reread the passages in the book, and contrary to what he said to Kurtz, that is indeed precisely what he wrote. His denial to Kurtz, however, certainly makes it appear that Andersen is a bit worried that he has been caught in somewhat of a lie.

Nevertheless, I thought that Jack Cashill’s case had to be considered. Others think Cashill’s arguments are rather weak. At Powerlineblog.com today, Scott Johnson calls Cashill’s arguments “speculative,” and his textual evidence rather “thin.” He notes, for example, that based on the kind of metaphoric threads he uses, both he and John Hinderaker could also qualify as Obama’s secret ghostwriters, if not for the fact that they did not live in Obama’s neighborhood when he was working on the book.

Obama saved the country from the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, but his true ties to radical ’60s Weather Underground bomber Bill Ayers have been exposed! A completely reputable conservative blogger yesterday dropped this shocker: He ran into Ayers at an airport, and Ayers confessed to writing Obama’s autobiography, Dreams from my Father. So that father Obama was dreaming about? Turns out it was Ayers’ father!

So there you have it, 100% proof that despite claims the two barely knew each other—and by some accounts actively kept their distance from each other—we now know that Obama and Ayers are brothers in book-writing (and possibly terrorism). Obama may have saved the country from the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, but Bill Ayers ghost-wrote his book!

UPDATE: Bill Ayers did not ghost-write Obama’s book. Turns out the guy was very (very, very) obviously being sarcastic when he confessed, but I’m sure it was an honest misunderstanding.

The Summer of 1981

October 6, 2009

Paul Hollrah

On Page 118 of Barack Obama’s memoir, Dreams from My Father, he tells of his arrival in New York to attend Columbia University and of the events that took place during that summer… the summer of 1981.

While still in Los Angeles, before leaving Occidental College, he’d heard of a vacant apartment on 109th Street in the Spanish Harlem section of Upper Manhattan. He arranged to sublet the apartment and he tells of dragging his luggage through the airport, through Times Square and the subways, and along 109th Street, all the way from Broadway to Amsterdam Avenue.

When he arrived at the apartment just after 10:00 pm, there was no one at home. He tells of waiting on the front stoop until well past midnight and, not having enough money to rent a room in a cheap hotel, he crawled through a hole in a fence across the street, found a garbage-strewn alley, made a pallet with his luggage, and went to sleep. He awakened the next morning with a white hen pecking at some garbage near his feet.

The only person he knew in New York was an illegal alien named Sadik, a Pakistani he’d met in Los Angeles who had overstayed his tourist visa and who supported himself by waiting tables in restaurants and bars. They met for breakfast, and when Obama explained that he was unable to get into the apartment he’d sublet, Sadik invited him to stay with him until he could work out his housing difficulties.

Obama was able to sublet another apartment, but when his utilities were turned off he learned that the people who held the lease had failed to pay the rent and had absconded with his deposit money. And since his friend, Sadik, had lost his lease as well, the two of them found an apartment and moved in together.

Obama tells us that, in the weeks following his arrival, he was like a large “lab rat” exploring the byways of Manhattan, with Sadik as his guide. Experiencing the true flavor of New York, he tells of offering his seat to a middle-aged woman on a subway, and how a burly young man beat the woman to the seat. And he tells of a stroll through Bloomingdale’s where he was impressed by the price tags on the winter coats. He wrote, “Like a tourist, I watched the range of human possibility on display, trying to trace out my future in the lives of the people I saw, looking for some opening through which I could reenter.”

Then his life took an unexpected turn. He writes, “It was in this humorless mood that my mother and sister (Maya Soetoro) found me when they came to visit during my first summer in New York,” and that, “They stayed with Sadik and me for a few nights, then moved to a condominium on Park Avenue that a friend of my mother’s had offered them while she was away.”

Obama explains, “That summer I had found a job clearing a construction site on the Upper West Side, so my mother and sister spent most of their days exploring the city on their own. When we met for dinner, they would give me a detailed report of their adventures… I would eat in silence until they were finished and then begin a long discourse on the problems of the city and the politics of the dispossessed.” He says, “I instructed my mother on the various ways that foreign donors and international development organizations like the one she was working for bred dependence in the Third World.”

It sounds as if Obama was an absolute joy to be around. The “dog-eat-dog” environment of the streets of New York must have been a welcome departure from their evenings with Obama.

But wait a minute. How can this be?

Although Obama fails to mention it in either of his memoirs… not in Dreams from My Father and not in The Audacity of Hope… he traveled to Indonesia and Pakistan during the summer of 1981. In an April 6, 2008 speech in San Francisco… the same speech in which he referred to rural Pennsylvanians as “bitter” people who “cling to guns or religion…” he explained, offhand, the value of his trip to Pakistan, vis-à-vis his knowledge of foreign affairs. He said, “I knew what Sunni and Shia was (sic) before I joined the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.”

When questioned about that trip, Obama’s campaign press secretary, Bill Burton, confirmed to the New York Times, and others, that Obama had visited his mother and his sister in Indonesia during the summer of 1981 and that, after leaving Indonesia, he’d spent three weeks in Pakistan, traveling with a Pakistani friend from Occidental College, Wahid Hamid. According to Burton, Obama stayed in Karachi with the family of another Pakistani friend, Mohammed Hasan Chandoo. Obama has never mentioned the Pakistan trip again.

So the question arises, which version are we to believe: the version contained in his memoir, Dreams from My Father, or the version his press secretary provided following his April 2008 speech in San Francisco? In other words, if Obama arrived in New York, say, during the first week of June, had housing problems, explored Manhattan like a “lab rat,” lived for a time with a friend, spent time with his mother and sister during their stay in New York, and worked as a laborer on a construction site on the Upper West Side, how did he find the time or the money to embark on an around-the-world trip to Indonesia and Pakistan by the middle of July?

The Los Angeles Times once referred to Obama as “the magic Negro.” Is it possible they were right, or is Obama simply challenging Bill Clinton for the title of “unusually good liar?”

By his own admission, it is now well established that Obama did travel to Indonesia and Pakistan during the summer of 1981, but that trip raises some serious questions. Aside from the question of how he went from being flat broke to financing an around-the-world trip in just four weeks, it would be interesting to know how he managed to squeeze so much into such a short period of time. But now it appears we may be one step closer to having definitive answers to part of the mystery.

Jack Cashill, a recognized authority on intellectual fraud, is the author of numerous books, including Hoodwinked: How Intellectual Hucksters Have Hijacked American Culture, in which he details the 20th century history of American intellectual fraud.

In addition to his own exhaustive examination of Barack Obama’s memoirs, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope, which led him to believe that Obama’s terrorist friend, Bill Ayers, is in fact the principal author of Dreams from My Father, Cashill reviews a new best-seller by Christopher Andersen, the author of 28 books, including best-sellers on the Clintons; Diana, Princess of Wales; and Caroline Kennedy. The latest Andersen book to catch Cashill’s eye is titled Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage.

Writing in the October 1, 2009 edition of WorldNetDaily, Cashill tells us, “The headline of the USA Today review captures the message Andersen hoped to bring to the market, ‘A glowing Portrait’ of the Obamas’ rock-solid marriage.” However, according to Cashill, Andersen then threw the reviewers an “unexpected curve.”

Cashill tells us, “In a lengthy and detailed section on the Obama’s financial struggles in the early 1990s, Andersen relates how at the urging of Michelle, a ‘hopelessly blocked’ Obama turned to ‘friend and neighbor’ Bill Ayers to help him with his much acclaimed 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father.” He continues, “Andersen’s details are specific. The Obamas were convinced of ‘Ayers’s proven abilities as a writer.’ Barack particularly liked the novelistic style of To Teach, a 1993 book by Ayers. Obama hoped to use a comparable style for his own family history. The problem was that although he had taped interviews with many of his relatives, he could not find it in himself to write the book.”

According to Cashill, “The key sentence in Andersen’s account is the one that follows: ‘These oral histories, along with his partial manuscript and a trunk load of notes were given to Ayers,’ ” and, ‘Thanks to help from veteran writer Ayers, Barack would be able to submit a manuscript to his editors at Times Books.’”

What does literary investigator Cashill conclude from all this? He says, “To a book reviewer or to a political editor, this revelation should matter hugely. Throughout the 2008 campaign, Obama insisted that he barely knew Ayers. He was just some guy in the neighborhood. Obama was lying.”

If Andersen’s account is correct, that Obama experienced a bad case of writer’s block and was unable to complete his memoir… after having spent his advance money… and that he and Michelle dumped his notes, his taped interviews, and his own partially-completed manuscript on Bill Ayers, then it is all but certain that the Dreams from My Father account of Obama’s summer of 1981 in New York is pure fiction, a product of Bill Ayers’ imagination, and that his own inadvertent admission of spending much of the summer of 1981 in Indonesia and Pakistan is the version that is “straight from the horse’s mouth.”

Whatever the truth of the matter, Obama has an obligation to set the record straight. If his first memoir is not his own work, in spite of his many claims that it is, then the American people deserve to know. They deserve to know who it is who now occupies the Oval Office. And given the destructive nature of his plans for America, the sooner we learn the truth of all this, the better.

Bill Ayers No Dream

There I was, sitting in Reagan National Monday morning, sipping a Starbucks by the United counter before going through security. I had a little time, so I was browsing through the news. Some military guys had borrowed a chair from my table. I looked up from time to time to enjoy the sun streaming through. That’s when I saw Bill Ayers, an instant blight. Scruffy, thinning beard, dippy earring, and the wirerims, heading to order. I gathered my things, got my camera ready, and snapped a shot right when he got his coffee.

snip
Then, unprompted he said–I wrote Dreams From My Father. I said, oh, so you admit it. He said–Michelle asked me to. I looked at him. He seemed eager. He’s about my height, short. He went on to say–and if you can prove it, we can split the royalties. So I said, stop pulling my leg. Horrible thought. But he came again–I really wrote it, the wording was similar. I said I believe you probably heavily edited it. He said–I wrote it. I said–why would I believe you, you’re a liar.

He had no answer to that. Just looked at me. Then he turned and walked off, and said again his bit about my proving it and splitting the proceeds.

Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance is an autobiographical look at Obama’s

Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance is an autobiographical look at Obama’s life written while he was in his 30’s. It’s a book of discovering himself and the influences that race and inheritance play in that make up. Several conversations he relates reminded me of similar conversations I was party to while working as an interpreter in the heavily black or nearly all black neighborhoods of Maryland just south of DC. I also felt some connections with his past in my own life living abroad as a child in Japan. His book gives a perspective of the black experience I think everyone should taste some time in their life.

There were, however, a couple places where I am not totally convinced that race was the primary cause of certain explanations mostly due to my own experiences living abroad as a child. I could relate to some of the feelings myself which for me didn’t have to do with race but had more to do with shifting from one culture to a another trying to learn new rules and being made fun of because you don’t already understand how to participate in the new society. This happened to me when I moved back to the United States at ten years old.

I also felt that his recolections of Indonesia are very abstract making me a little wary of his conclusions from those experiences. There were a couple times I felt like he was telling me how to feel about a certain event to lead me to his conclusion ultimately making me less likely to accept his version.

Or the part about Africa not being pure. That he discovers, for example, that tea comes from the Europeans without acknowledging that the Europeans got tea from the East. We’re all polluted. In this sense, it is more a tale of discovering how the world works irrespective of race.

I liked the detail of his Chicago and Kenya interactions, though. These seemed more authentic. I liked his conclusions at the end. I started to get a little worried he would dissapoint me until I got to the very end and even into the Epilogue before realizing that I could generally agree with his final conclusions. Overall it was a good read.
