Talk about madness! This was my first Black Friday experience and though I suspect it won’t be my last (as evidenced by the purchases made this time around) , I definitely was overwhelmed buy the experience. Other than being tired in a way that I can’t even describe… my body is aching from walking through stores, malls and carting heavy bags of items for over 12 hours.

With the madness starting at 12 midnight, I was a keener and one of the first to step through the doors of my first stop. At that point I was excited, anxious and rearing to get at the sales. By the time I left stop #1 I was changing my tune… especially since I knew there were about 99 more stops to go.

All in all it was quite the experience… a laptop, a gorgeous pair of brown leather boots, 3 pairs of silver earrings, scarves cosmetics and some amazing fall pieces later, including some fur additions, and I’m a believer. The damage would have been much worse but I second guessed myself a few times (a huge misstep on Black Friday- considering when you turn around again the item in question will most definitely be gone) and I admit I fell asleep in the car a couple times and missed entire stores.

Next time though, I’m coming much more prepared (read: pre-sale nap, runners, a portable pillow, eyedrops, and extensive pre- mid and post stretching routine, and backpack).

I sunk to new What I Wore Wednesday lows this past week, as you’ll see by my paltry photo.  In my defense, I was both sick and traveling for much of the time, and my clothing choices were not at the top of my consciousness.  Still, I’ve committed myself to this project at least through the month of November, and I promise to get it together next week.  Really.

So, I bought this dress in anticipation of both fall/winter in Texas (it only gets cold for a short period, and this dress is knit but could sustain a cute jacket, tights, and boots for colder weather), and I love it.  I won’t apologize for the fact that I bought it from the unfortunately moniker-ed Dress Barn (a store website I first visited because of this post by Meg at Whatever, by the way).  While I have found Dress Barn to be hit or miss, I’ve bought two of my favorite dresses there.  Thanks, Meg.

Anyhoo, I wore this dress to a Saturday night party during my husband’s high school reunion weekend:

Obviously, this isn’t a full-length shot, but I wore the dress with closed-toe black platform wedges and gold jewelry.  It was incredibly comfortable, wrinkle-free, and easy to style.  I think it’s a winner.

The Victoria’s Secret model sports a casual white tee under an Isabel Marant fur vest with skinny jeans, Burberry aviators, gray booties, & a tote by Alexander Wang.  This is the best sunny day look as the seasons are changing, mixing your favorite basic tee & clean skinny jeans with fall favorites like booties & a vest.

To get this look, take a top like the kiss tee ($24.50) from Victoria’s Secret, which can be paired with a leather mini skirt or cigarette pants with a bib necklace or hoop earrings.  Skinny crop jeans ($44.99) from Gap can easily go from day-to-night by switching up wedges with knee boots or a tunic top with a dolman blouse. @Forever 21, this very affordable vest ($37.80) is perfect to also make an LBD & gladiator sandals a little more edgy or with a maxi dress & cowboy boots!

As for my plus-size Style Darlings, check out the white slub tee ($16.99) from Dress Barn, Forever 21+ distressed skinny jeans ($24.80), & an I.N.C. sleeveless faux fur vest ($39.99) from Macy’s.

My favorite part of this whole look is the gray faux leather shooties ($29.00), which can be found at Old Navy, marked down from $32.94! They look just like a beloved pair that I bought from Payless a few winters ago!  Aviators are everywhere & the silver & black pair ($5.80) is cool, timeless, & sporty. As for a bag, @H&M, this spacious shoulder bag ($17.95) in rich golden brown is a functional & fashionable option to carry around all your favorite belongings.  It’s neutrality is what you need for a day-to-day basis & it’s the ultimate piece to rely on when jet-setting around the globe any time of the year!

To get a little inspired for this basic, I’ve found a slew of famous faces donning the very fall-forward look.  Cameron Diaz slipped into a Bottega Veneta with color Jimmy Choo sandals at the premiere of Knight & Day last year.  Heather Graham sports a black & white striped Diesel turtleneck sweater dress with metallic pumps. Oscar-winner Catherine Zeta Jones wore her gray sweater dress with leggings, a short-sleeved cardigan, slouchy boots, & a scarf while running errands on a chilly November day in New York City.  Lauren Conrad attended an event for Kohl’s in her black sweater dress with matching gladiators, by LC by Lauren Conrad.  Nicole Richie also did some self-promotion wearing her own House of Harlow 1960 ankle boots & a dark green sweater dress at a signing for her book, Priceless.  Angelina Jolie enjoyed a night out in Manhattan, wearing a navy cableknit sweater dress by Loro Piana with Salvatore Ferragamo knee boots.  And way back in 2006, Eva Mendes was super stylish, wearing this Max Azria turtleneck sweater dress with killer brown knee boots & stunning silver cuff bracelet.

These seven sweater dresses will instantly update your dress collection for the season & impeccably show off your figure!  @Macy’s you can find this Style&co. sweater dress / cableknit tunic ($26.98) in espresso.  The ‘Happy Place’ black & taupe sweater dress ($49.00) from Lulu’s is a little more sexy & wild for a sweater dress, but with the right black tights & black patent leather pumps, you’ll look fierce in this 80′s-inspired dress! The third pictured above is the one I want!  I’ve never actually bought anything from Dress Barn, but this cabled sweater dress with envelope collar in fern ($39.99) best represents my style in the form of a sweater dress!  The neckline is modern & flirty, but the cableknit calls on everything I love about preppy style.

I thought it was fitting to find this next dress @Forever 21, which is a burgundy ‘Angelina’ sweater dress ($27.80), since I featured Ms. Jolie up top. The matching belt is super cute & allows for its wearer to mix it up with something in leather.  The dress is also available in cream for the same price.  While clicking around my favorite store, White House Black Market, I saw that the black bateau neck sweater dress ($29.98) was marked down from $100.00! I should warn my readers before clicking that it is only available at this time in size: XL.

As for my fuller figured Style Darlings, I went nuts when I saw the ivory cabled sweater dress ($49.00) @Dress Barn, which I definitely want for myself, but it’s not available in my size.  This would look very chic with a gold belt & metallic ballet flats for a day at the office, or spice it up with something red for the upcoming holidays.  Also, the gray ruffle front sweater dress ($64.90) isn’t necessarily a bargain @Avenue, but is sold in sizes 14-28. It’s professional enough for work, but dressy enough for a special occasion dinner with your beau.

Enough. Moving on to a new neighborhood. My eldest, Miss Peach, recently moved into a swishy townhouse with her friends. She invited me to see it right after she moved in. Her place is beautiful, nicer than mine. As she walked me out and down the road to find my car, I surveyed her “hood”. Which prompted one question. “DID YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING NEXT DOOR TO A METH LAB?” She said, “Oh!”. End of convo. We are very casual about potential life-threatening situations. Moving on.

Knackwurst. At a recent cocktail situation, I ran into a friend. He’s a great guy and has been promoted to CFFOBPRQ of an enormous company. I forget what we were talking about, but for whatever reason, he called me a “Knackwurst Head“. Knowing only that knackwurst was not complimentary, I did what any self-respecting woman would do and emptied the contents of my hors d’oeuvre plate into his cocktail. I mean, really! A knackwurst, for those of you who don’t know, is a short, plump, highly seasoned German sausage. I am NOT a Knackwurst Head, you MOLDY PIECE OF HOG’S HEAD CHEESE!

Feeling better already! Gotta run, late for appointment at Sweaty Betty’s Beat & Tease.

1. OK …so the GYM is my friend I tried on a dress at the dress barn and I am in a size 2 petite….down from 6 petite…I AM SO YIPPY!!!

It about all the different types of thinking…how we learn best…there are 7 different types.

My original plan was to look for a computer suitcase for the one I have right now is damaged and embarrassing but Staples did not have them at the store and will need to order them online. On the way out I conveniently walked into the Marshalls store for it was next door and thought to look for my Graduation dress. I have now learned a valuable lesson, try and buy the shoes to an outfit after you have bought the dress..  I spent an hour just at the 2 aisles with dresses and could not find anything. I got into the car and my plan was to go to check out a place for dinner.  A store display caught my eye and the name of the store was interesting, sadly I have now forgotten it.. Bummer.. I walked out with several great items that were on sale.

I drove around the block again and saw a store named “Dress Barn” and thought I am sure they will have a dress that can work with the shoes I bought, they indeed fulfilled my expectations. They currently have a great sale – buy two dresses and get $10 off and if you text you could get an additional 20% off. 

Once I mentioned that I was looking for a deep chocolate dress based on a shoe that I have, they immediately went for a scavenger hunt. I must have tried on over 30 dresses, they picked the dresses, I tried them all, they gave me feedback and after 2 hours I walked out with a great selection that I cannot wait to show off soon. It was the BEST two hours of shopping experience I have had in a while. The two ladies at the store especially the store manager Leza Smack were just outstanding.  I will be emailing Leza a picture of the shoes wearing the 2 outfits that she picked for me. i found out that there is a store close to where i live, but i wish i could carry Leza with me as i shop for dresses for i don’t shop for dresses often, in fact in my closet right now only have 4 dresses and now intend to get more.

While the Federal Reserve has yet to set a deadline on this new rule, they have generated a large group of critics in opposition. According to an article in Bloomberg Businessweek, Democratic Representative Louise Slaughter of New York said ” (we) asked the Fed to keep the household income or assets measure for non working spouses, arguing that was Congress’s intent. They also pointed out that the proposal could cause serious risk for women in abusive relationships who need to get credit without their husbands’ knowledge.” The Fed hasn’t directly commented on this issue but the director of national priorities for Consumer Action said, “We just want more reality in the setting of credit limits. The stay at home mom’s income is her husband’s income. This is splitting hairs.” Tell that to the stay at home mom who needs her husband to sign authorizing her ability to get a credit card simply because her own bank account isn’t considered sufficient, even though she may have excellent credit. Seems kind of backwards to me. How about instead of just looking at household, take a look at age and credit history too. If someone is 18, with no credit history and clearly enrolled in the state university then no they should not qualify for a credit card with a 10,000 limit. If someone is a stay at home parent, with a great credit record, a decent amount in their or even a joint savings, I don’t see why they should not be able to obtain a credit card without having to give up a piece of their financial independence by asking for a signature.

Retail stores like Sear’s Holdings, The Limited and Dress Barn are also complaining. Their concern stems from the potential revenue loss from their in store credit cards. With many of these store cards issued at the point of sale, forcing customers to have to obtain their spouses permission before being authorized is a major deterrent. This also brings up the question of privacy. How much information do we need to tell the cashier at our local JC Penny in order to get the store card? Is my prenuptial agreement and the state laws on common property the new counter talk? Gee, I hope not. Would all this extra attention to your detailed family finances make you forget the extra 15% you could save instantly by opening a store credit? It sure would for me. Do I even need to mention the extra security risks for identity theft? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, get it together Federal Reserve. Good intention, bad implementation.

in the article there’s a poll where they talked to a bunch of ‘total h8rs’ and it was revealed that:

but even tho ppl are totally hating on her dress it’s still been rlly successful. the $575 white sweater-dress is possibly sold-out. I contacted ‘dress barn’ 2 see if they were gonna get more sweater-dresses in before valentines day but they have refused to comment on the lindsay lohan ‘sellout’ allegations.

“What the heck are jeggings?”

Those were my exact thoughts when I was asked by STYLELIST.com to review a pair for their website.

Jeggings are a combination of jean and leggings.

This fall Old Navy has capitalized on the jeggings craze that has taken over most of America. Every major retailer from American Apparel to Dress Barn,has turned out jeggings in their production factories like hot cakes on a grill.

I don’t shop at Old Navy. I do however use the 34th street store as a warm portal during the harsh winter months on my way to the Hotel Pennsylvania. I stopped shopping at Old Navy in high school. They do carry good basics like V-neck sweaters and tank-tops, however I find their sizing to be very awkward. I’ve always thought that instead of using a fit model to construct their clothing, they must  resort to enlisting 5th graders to make cardboard cut out mannequins. That has to be the only plausible explanation for their unusual sizing. I am not the only one that holds this sentiment. While on this assignment a sales associate told me nonchalantly, “Yaaaa… our sizing is soooooooo bizarre.”

I gave the grey jeggings a try. I immediately could tell that they had at least 1% lycra within the fabric construction. This is an essential point for me when purchasing jeans.  I highly recommend the jegging for the women who tends to confuses leggings for actual pants. I cringe when I see countless numbers of women on the subway wearing leggings that could easily pass for pantyhose.  It’s just not a good look.

On the contrary,  if you’re confident in your curves and desire a super tight jean to tuck into your favorite thigh-high boots, then give the Old Navy Rock Star Super-Skinny Jegging a try.

*A word of advice: bring the size you usually wear and the next size up into the dressing room.

What’s the worst that could happen if you decide to buy them?

If you really feel like you’ve made a huge mistake, Old Navy does have a generous return policy: 90 days with the receipt.

I got there around 11:40 am since I had class that morning, and was greeted by an overflowing parking lot.  I managed to find someone pulling out of a spot in the back, so I snagged it and teetered on it in those Boutique 9 heels of mine.  When I walked in, my heart was immediately happy.  The staff greeted me at the door and the store is HUGE.  I could almost hear the angels singing it looked so great.  Ahhhh…

The women’s section is located off to the right, so I checked out the shoe selection first.  I am a complete and total shoe whore, therefore shoes are always my first priority.  There were quite a few to choose from, but none that I liked were in my size.  I had to pass on a pair of Nine West buckled black boots, hand tooled brown leather booties and a pair of White House/Black Market spectator pumps because they were all the wrong size.  I almost cried because of those pumps, but there was no way a 10 would ever fit, not matter how much I stuffed in the toes.

Jackets and dresses were next since they were against the wall.  It was here I found my kryptonite.  Since I have so very few jackets, I’ve been trying to stock up and here I just kept finding one after another that met all my fall requirements.  By the time I was done trying them on in the mirror, here’s what was in my cart:

This little gem was also in there, although I really don’t know if it’s a jacket or a dress-here it is on me.  What do you think?  Jacket or a dress?  And how would you wear it?  I just had to have it because of the fabulous detailing-the ruched sleeves, the fit, the big buttons, everything!  It looks black in the pictures, but it’s navy and unfortunately, it ends just under my rump, making it a wee bit short.  Also, I was nice and cut out my pasty white legs!  I just am a little stumped on how to wear it, so please, give me your thoughts.

I moved on down to the dress section but in my heart I knew I was close to hitting my budget with what I already had in my cart, so I was overly picky.  There were a ton of great dresses to choose from and only two made the cut.  The orange sweater tunic because I could see it with leggings and boots when it cools down a bit more and the dress I thought I could wear for my real presentation on Monday.  We all know that didn’t happen, mainly because when I got home in better light, I noticed the tailoring was a little off and that it needs some work.

After adding those two darlings, I KNEW I was at my limit.  I give myself $20 a week to spend on clothes and I knew I was blowing two weeks worth of budget with all these goodies.  But of course, I couldn’t help myself and glanced through the pants, skirts and tops.  I finally had to walk away before the Betsey Johnson top I was lusting over screamed at me any longer.  I refused to give up anything in my cart for the top and my self control won.  How THAT ever happened, I will never know!

I did briefly glance through the men’s, children’s and housewares section.  The selections looked fantastic, but I didn’t dare do anything more than glance.  I can justify spending one week ahead of my budget but not two!

So in conclusion, this new Super Store of Goodwill’s is FAB!  As soon as I have some extra cash, I’ll be sure to cruise over there to look more thoroughly at what this Super Store has to offer.  If you’re in the Fort Worth area, be sure to stop by this Goodwill and see what Good Finds you can find!

Oh, and I should mention-Goodwill is not compensating me in any way for writing this review.  I just love Goodwill and their mission, so I support their stores.  But I will be sure to let the Goodwill Guy of Fort Worth know…
