We’re all guilty of retail therapy. I know nothing makes me feel better when I’m down than a warm new cardigan, or a brand new party dress to boost my self-esteem. However, retail therapy can also go VERY wrong. When emotions are high, it’s all too easy to make impulse buys that will leave your closet full of regretful purchases and your wallet empty.

Retail therapy doesn’t have to turn into compulsive shopping! With a little rational thinking and some brainstorming, I’m here to show you how you can turn your frown upside down for under $50!

My Retail Therapy Recommendations:

1. Restyle your room!

When I’m really frustrated, sometimes the best way for me to let off some steam is to change up the atmosphere! Not only does moving furniture burn calories, but it is also therapeutic to declutter and maybe add some new accents to your room! Here are some really cute and inexpensive items that you can add to your room to help kick your retail therapy craving, as well as help you recreate your room! Even one new piece can really make a difference.

Better News Than Ever

Hey fans!

You know what? I’ve won 3rd place, no kidding, THIRD PLACE!! In Tami’s contest, of course. Now Zenny’s gonna friend the WHOEVER (no offence, Tami and owner.) and Tami and I are gonna lurve company!

Zenn’s acting like it’s some kind of huge accomplishment, but believe me, I don’t need anymore ‘rubbing in the face’. She was so happy about me actually getting third place that she went to the stylist’s and checked out some blue contact lenses which I think are a bit nerdy (remember the post on the purple eyes? PSAnon suggested it as blue. I was SO embarrased).

Seriously, I think it’s kinda cool of Tami to host such a contest. So I’m hosting another contest seperately! A different one, of course, since X’mas is over. I’m hosting a… Beauty Contest!

Maybe you think it’s kinda unfair that only girls can enter Beauty Paegents. Nope! This contest will have two categories: Male and Female! The theme is garden.

A Flight of Beauty

Hey fans!

Today I visited my friend En-Chi. He had a kind of bottle with some kind of white wings as decor. Feeling mysterious, I went to the mystery shop and I saw the bottle on sale!

(Uh, okay, I’ll admit that I posed for this photo after I’ve drank the potion.)

Immediately, I bought the potion.

I put it in my living room.

A few minutes later, after playing with my boring holiday plushies, I thought, “Hey, why don’t I drink it? This bottle’s for drinking, not decor!”

Seconds later, gulp gulp, the bottle was gone!

Okay, I know, I’m quite a Winx Club fan. I thought, unlike the bat wings, that I could fly once I drank this potion. But hey, no! I couldn’t fly! So I ended up arguing the Mystery pet and threatening to sue it if it doesn’t refund the 600 coins for me.

But then, I realised that it was a fashionable clothes piece. Anyway, I read Tami’s blog and found out that she hosted a beauty contest! Feeling envious, I created one too (it’s in this post). Here are the contestants!

1. White Princess

White Princess is a cute little all-white outfit. This picture was taken in a garden, when White Princess was sitting on a swing. She looks high, proud and mighty. Will she be too proud for parading?

2. Innocent Indian

This Innocent Indian is a two-ponytail native american outfit. II looks innocent, and with the wings she looks angelic. The scarecrow makes II look a little frightened. Also taken in a garden, will this outfit be too unconnected to win?

3. Blue View

Everything’s blue and pink here! Blue View wears a blue ribbon and a blue princess dress. BV’s scene includes some pink items such as her dining table and her stairs. Her King Burger also has a blue portion, along with her beautiful blue sea view. The wings make no great appearence; will this contestant be too insignificant to have insights?

4. Santa Girl

Santa Girl’s a feminine version of Santa Claus. Her mix-and-match ability is amazing! Her scene is also quite matching; her red giftwrapped sofa matches with her dress, with the theme of “x’mas”. But her wings can hardly be seen! Will this contestant’s wings pull her down from others?

Peeing in alleys is international

Just a late night adventure in London:

During one late Wednesday night while I was in London, A (my roommate) and I discovered a free cabaret show taking place the following night. The music looked interesting (mash-ups of artists like Frank Sinatra and Radiohead) and the overall club looked pretty cool (what place called “The Cellar Door” wouldn’t be, right?) So Thursday night comes around and the two of us get dressed up well beyond necessary. We are talking 4 inch heels, cocktail dresses, big/dangly earrings, glamorous makeup, the works. We know we are way too dolled up for where we are going but we figure “what the hell, it will be fun” and we head out.

When we arrive in downtown London, the first thing we realize is that we are going to have a LOT more trouble finding this place than we originally thought. Neither of us remember the exact address, we don’t really know this area of the city that well and, bonus, we do not have a map. So we set off, strutting in our heels for 30 minutes looking desperately for any sort of sign or indication that there is, indeed, a basement club in London called “The Cellar Door.” No luck. It ends up taking us asking two separate people for directions to the place which, embarrassingly, was less than 50 from where were standing. Only then do we realize the entrance to our club is a set of unmarked, random stairs in the middle of the sidewalk. Not sketch at all.

So we finally made it. Our next problem: the place is the size of a sardine can. People are shoved up against each other, the walls, the entrance, the bar, with a few lucky souls seated in one of the three chairs they seem to have available in the whole place. A and I decide to listen to the music for a bit (since it actually was good), but leave shortly after arriving realizing that there is no way we will be able to enjoy an entire night in the crowded “Cellar Door” or even have a chance to make our way to the bar to buy one the incredibly overpriced cocktails or (I am not kidding) chocolate snuff.

Our next stop after this was a local pub called the Lyceum that we had been in once before and tried an absolutely delicious organic cherry beer. On our way over, we decide that, being ridiculously dressed up for the place, to come up with a lie about just having left a banquet for our program director and wanting to go out for some addition drinks. What happened later made us both agree that the dresses and the story will need to be used again at a later date.

While in the Lyceum, A and I are picked up by 3 British boys (actually, 3 members of the British Air Force) claiming we are way too glamorous for the place and making them look bad. We continue to talk to them, grab a few more drinks, and at the inquiry of his tattoos, manage to get one of the guys to strip off his shirt in the middle of the pub to show us his chest and back. When the place closes down the 5 of us head to another pub they know of called Motion for some more drinks (all of which they are paying for at this point) and a few more laughs before the conversation seems to be dying. The night with them ends with my roomie and I getting a number (that neither of us actually intend on calling) and finally heading for home.

Suddenly, dressing up, as opposed to some simple jeans begins to backfire. It is freezing outside and our dresses are clearly not made to withstand late night London chills. On top of this, our night long intake of beer and alcoholic cider had left both A and I in desperate need of a bathroom. At some point during the trip back to our house (which took well over an hour due to the night buses we needed to take) we both squatted in alleys (yes in our lovely 4 inch heels and cocktail dresses), unable to contain our bladders until arriving back in Harrow. On top of this, our feet hurt from walking around in our damn heels so much that at our final bus stop, which was still a good 10-15 minute walk from our house, we promptly removed our shoes and hoofed the rest of way back in bare feet, regardless of the fact that we were walking along a somewhat main road and had to cross a large roundabout. Finally, we arrived at the front door (it is about 3:30am by now), giggling uncontrollably as we recapped our interesting and eventful evening.

All in all it was probably one of the best/most hilarious nights I have ever had, in London or otherwise.

Aprons For Aspiring Chefs

The little ones around here are getting a fancy new kitchen play set for Christmas. Their Granny bought them a kitchen over a year and a half. They have loved the stuffing out of it. Well, in this case, they just loved it to pieces. So, the Pastor and I decided to upgrade them to a big, fancy, deluxe kitchen in hopes that this one makes it a bit longer her in the parsonage. I just couldn’t imagine them play cooking without any fancy things to wear! So, I lovingly drafted and sewed two little matching aprons! Then, I made them each an oven mitt, because they will need those!

Aren’t they lovely little things? And I must say that my first pass at drafting a pattern went really well! I love the huge toddler hoarding pockets!
