I arrived at werk today at 8:45, went to my assigned classroom, 304, signed in with my name and case number and met my case worker Mr. Anderson. Immediately he said he would have to refer me out because I was wearing unacceptable attire–the new jeans my mother sent along with my sister who was in Brooklyn with me over the weekend. I guess my cute little blazer didn’t count as dress clothes. I understand that this program is boot-camp-like: designed to break people down, stamp out individualism, break the will, smash souls all in the name of fitting us into as neat little box that makes us easy to work with. It reminds me of being in the loony bin and given the wrong medication or being over medicated so we would all just be calm and easy to babysit. Most people were compliant, a few weren’t. I simply bided my time until I could get out as I will do here.

I was given a referral with a list of clothing pantries, sent to the resource room to use the inmates wall phone  to call to see which places were open on Mondays, if they had my size and could accommodate another body in their program. I hit pay dirt with the first call I made, to Jan Hus Presbyterian Church on 74^th Street between 1^st and 2^nd Avenues. So, I trekked over to Manhattan’s chic Upper East Side, signed my name to a list and waited for intake.

I was in the basement of the church where two case workers in the homeless outreach program (both wearing jeans) were handing out toiletries and clothing to homeless or close-to-homeless people. They were also serving lunch in another room.

On the wall next to where I was sitting, the following was inscribed:

Most of the people there were regular customers, like Pete who told me the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the good food pantries, even one with food for pets. With him was Daniel—or Dee.  Dee, a pre-op transsexual told me she had spilled her entire bottle of Xanax down the sink by accident and she was desperately trying to get a new prescription, which she was having trouble doing because she has only recently refilled her prescription. I gave her the name of a few free clinics…You know, I used to work on the other side– in psychiatric homeless services.

After two hours of sitting and waiting, my turn came and Drew, a young caseworker at Jan Hus, asked me what I needed. I told him dress clothes and a written acknowledgment I’d been there. We have to have documentation for the BTW program of where we go and what we are doing to account for all the time we are not in class or we’ll be kicked out of the program. So, by the time the director of the clothing program, Frances (who could not believe my brand new jeans would not suffice for LOOKING for a job online as opposed to actually interviewing) had set me up with two pair of pants, two complementary tops and a pair of short, semi-stylish boots, Drew had my acknowledgment letter in hand and bid me good luck.

My next stop was my therapist’s office. I needed a letter from her to ensure that I can leave for my weekly afternoon therapy appointment. I have bipolar disorder and as if life ain’t hard enough, this program is already stressing me. I want to make certain I am able to leave the premises to get to therapy without getting axed.

I was late in picking up the letter from my therapist; everything is a sit and wait game in the city system. She was already with another patient and had to leave me an envelope with the letter outside her office.  I didn’t get the chance to talk with her, which I was kinda desperate to do.

Just tried on the clothes: I will have to lose about 20 pounds for me to wear them and not have them wear me.

Hey! This is part 2! Darryl with Desteni Productions, and this another clip in regards to Cari AKA BlissWeaver, who had a problem with the 2012 ascension prophecy that we made a couple days ago.

Right. Okay, Cari, again, this is not an attack on you. This is not something that insult or humiliate of offend you in any way. I hope not, anyway. This is just a point; some responses to what you’ve said, and they’re directed at the response [made by BlissWeaver to the Desteni 2012 clip], okay? All right.

One thing that you said, is something that I have heard a million times from these people who profess “love” and “life” and “positive” and “beautiful” metaphysical feelings and emotions – is that suffering is “useful” for “learning.” Or, suffering is what people have “chosen” to endure. Or, suffering is vital to “provide lessons.” I do not know why the people who profess “Love,” “Light,” “Higher Consciousness” would have such a callous disregard to other people’s suffering.

You know, the same people who have the Candy Land Metaphysics of “Everybody is One,” “We’re All One,” “We’re all thoughts of God,” “We’re all the same,” “We’re all One Entity, one gestalt of being, one great chain of being,” “We’re all One, we’re all beautiful, bright, radiant things.” But, these same people disregard the suffering as something beneath them. Something that can’t reach them. Something that they have “spiritually evolved” out of. It’s like, “Oh, I’ve made it! God loves me! Oh, you guys will have to stop suffering and come up here with me!” I mean that’s just silly. It’s selfish. It’s silly. And it’s callous. And it’s like these people have both polarities – they the polarity going of callous disregard and “Oh, Love and Light.” And they’re the same thing. I find it disgusting, actually, that whole point of suffering. As the comment you mad, Cari – the comment’s disgusting – that you said: “To think that one can relieve another’s suffering is Ego-Trip.”

So if I can extrapolate that point: Martin Luther King was on an ego-trip. Abraham Lincoln was on an Ego-Trip. Mahatma Gandhi was on an Ego-Trip. Nelson Mandela was on an Ego-Trip. Jesus was on an Ego-Trip. Mother Theresa was on an Ego-Trip. Mother Theresa. Maybe she was. If we’re gonna be on Ego-Trips, we might as well try to alleviate the suffering of others.

As long as we’re going to spit in the faces of people, of beings that tried to alleviate the suffering of others, we might as well call it an Ego-Trip. If we can just spit in their faces or rub what they’ve done or accomplished or what they tried to do in the dirt, as long as we can do that, we should just call it an Ego-Trip. Just to complete the whole point, there, just to put a cap on it.

I think what an Ego-Trip is actually, what I think an Ego-Trip is actually, is professing “Light” and “Love” and “Beauty” and disregarding the “Ugly.” Disregarding the Grotesque, disregarding the Rejected, Disregarding the Dark, Evil Places that can’t find acceptance anywhere – that’s an Ego-Trip, to think that you above or Better than anybody else, Better than people who suffer.

I know you don’t think that. I know you don’t think you’re better than people who suffer. And I know you don’t think that you’re better than people who are concerned about other people’s suffering. But to say, “To think that one can relieve another’s suffering is an Ego-Trip,” I would have to ask you, do you really believe that? I don’t have to wonder that, because you don’t believe it – it’s just a statement, like al the other statements you’ve made. But this statement, you denigrate and sully the accomplishment of people who did actually – got off their butts and did something about it.

Now, take that for what it’s worth. What we are doing as Desteni, are producing people… raising awareness – and these people that we’re producing will stand as the point of common sense. We want our Principles acknowledged; the Principles of Life and the Principles of what is best for all: Equality and Oneness. All these things you’ve read about and seen on the videos. We’re not just going to make videos about – we’re gonna do something about it. And Expect that you will Spit in our faces while we are trying to correct what needs corrected. We don’t care. You know, we’re not gonna take it personally when you spit in our face. We expect a lot of people who like things the way that they are, to have the same reaction. We’re not going to be stopped. And in the end, you’ll thank us. So I think that’s all I have to say.

Zur Ferienvorbereitung gehörte die alljährliche innerfamiliäre Ausweiskontrolle. Dabei stellte ich fest, dass der Kleine immer noch ein «Sans-papier» ist. Ewig hatte ich diese Pendenz vor mich hingeschoben und zeitweise sogar bewusst verdrängt. Die Erinnerung an die Ausweisausstellung für den Grossen und den damit verbundenen Ärger hatten mich die ganze Zeit über gelähmt. Ähnlich wie man im Geschäft unangenehme Gespräche vor sich hin schiebt und dabei hofft, die Sache erledige sich von selbst. Aber Mutter weiss, dass nichts geht, ausser sie tut es.

Also schoss ich ein paar Fotos und gestand bei deren Betrachten ein, dass auch dieses Mal Ärger vorprogrammiert war. Aber schon beim Grossen hatte ich es durchgeboxt, den Profifotografen zu umgehen und viel Geld für Bilder bezahlen zu müssen, die eh jeden Grenzwächter schon zur Behauptung legitimieren, der Bub sei gar nicht meiner, sondern ein Entführter. Hören wir also auf mit solch alibimässigen Qualitätsansprüchen! Erwartungsgemäss setzte die Kreisbürobeamtin ihre Massstäbe sogar noch höher an und benutzte diese genüsslich, um ihre Macht auszuspielen. «Der Bub sollte den Mund zu haben.» «Ist aber schwierig, weil er automatisch lacht, wenn er eine Kamera sieht.» «Und dieser Schatten?» «Der Kinderstuhl. Musste ihn ja irgendwo setzen, da er noch nicht alleine steht.» «Das wird aber nicht akzeptiert werden. Das sage ich Ihnen.» «Sie haben aber ein schönes Outfit! Ist das der neue Dresscode für Beamte? Da stand doch etwas in der Zeitung.» «Äh, nein, das ist einfach mein Stil. Ich habe es eben noch gern ein wenig maskulin. Ach, das höre ich jetzt aber gerne! Also, wir machen das so: Ich gebe mal alles weiter, und wenns dann nicht geht, melde ich mich bei Ihnen, okay?» Mein Kleiner hat den Ausweis problemlos bekommen. Wie wahr sprach doch Hans Arndt: «Komplimente gleichen künstlichen Klimaanlagen zwecks schneller Ernte.»

Workplaces flip-flop with echo boom culture

I set a goal this month to limit my use of the word “awesome.” When I came across this critique of Generation Y’s workplace habits on Jobacle.com, I realized that I’m not the only one guilty of uber-casual behavior in class and professional environments.

Though many of these points on the list seem trivial, most of the complaints boil down to Gen Y being inconsiderate. The age-old saying “Think before you speak,” could prevent most of these transgressions. If and when we do get jobs in this economy, we need to know how to keep them.

Click through for the list of techniques to better get along with older co-workers.

1. Stop texting. It’s distracting and rude if someone is trying to talk to you.

2. Don’t feel you have to verbalize every idea you have. Believe me, not every one of them is a winner.

3. Don’t use the word “awesome.” Ever. Again. (This goes for ANY age group.)


4. If you went clubbing on a Wed. night till 4 a.m., got wasted and went to Denny’s for breakfast before work, keep it to yourself.

5. Quit wearing stilettos to the office. They’re trampy. (I must have just channeled my mother, sorry.)


6. “My bad” is probably not the best way to communicate to your boss that you forgot to do a report. Try speaking “older.” There are probably translators available.

While this post addresses basic workplace etiquette, Baby Boomers and Gen Xers should prepare for a change in the workplace. Whether or not we Mapquest and tweet on our iPhones while sitting in front of our computer and carrying on a conversation face-to-face, we will soon do all of these things while barking orders at them as their superiors.

What habits does our generation have that you think we should change for the workplace? Do you think our age group bringing a more casual attitude to the workplace will have a positive or negative effect on efficiency?

Es gibt Branchen, in denen es üblich ist, sich nicht komplett zugeknöpft und superspießig in der Arbeit zu präsentieren. Nein, ich rede nicht von dem horizontalen Gewerbe. Ich meine vielmehr die lockereren Branchen, in denen ein gewisser trendy Chic vorherrscht. Das ist auch alles in Ordnung. Aber sollten auch in diesen Branchen nicht gewisse Spielregeln gelten? Hauptsächlich bei jüngeren Frauen ist zu beobachten, dass diese eher dazu geneigt sind, bauchfrei aufzutauchen oder man wirft einfach ein lockeres Stück Stoff in Größe XL über, sodass lasziv die Schultern hervorblitzen. Nett ist auch der Catsuit. Oder die Hotpants, sodass das Höschen leicht zu sehen ist. Versteht mich nicht falsch. Ich bin dafür, dass jeder trägt was ihm gefällt. Auch auffällig darf es sein. Und die genannten Outfits sind auch ein toller Hingucker und sehen fantastisch aus. Aber eben im Privaten oder in der Zappelbude. Im Business  wirkt das einfach nur unprofessionell und fast schon billig! Die Folge: Vor allem Frau wird nicht ernst genommen!

Deswegen in der heutigen Folge von “Umgangsformen”: C wie Casual! – Gerne, aber bitte mit Stil!

Das kennt der ITler, wenn er aus seiner Kellerhöhle gerufen wird, weil den hohen Herren und Damen in den lichtdurchfluteten Büros in den oberen Stockwerken mal wieder was aus der Welt des Internets erklärt werden muss: Er muss sich erstmal die Haare schön machen. Und die Hände waschen. Und eine Krawatte umbinden.

Und damit ist er nicht allein: Selbst Avatare sollen sich – wenn sie in Business-Diensten stehen – künftig aufbrezeln müssen, wenn es nach der Unternehmensberatung Gartner geht.

Bis Ende 2013, so schätzt Gartner, werden 70 Prozent aller Firmen Richtlinien verabschiedet haben, die bestimmen, wie ein Avatar sich kleiden und verhalten muss, wenn er das Unternehmen repräsentieren soll.

Schön ordentlich soll es dann zugehen und dem Wildwuchs keine Chance mehr gegeben werden – was aber auch nicht ohne Probleme sein könnte, wie Gartner einräumt: Schließlich müsse der Angestellte, der den Avatar lenkt, sich schließlich auch noch irgendwie mit ihm identifizieren können, und wer möchte schon im pizzasoßenbefleckten T-Shirt einen Mormonen steuern? Was Alltag abseites des Bekannten bedeutet und wie sehr sich das Bekannte in das Verhalten und somit auch den Körper einschreibt, wird an den bekannt einfachen Dingen sichtbar und diese zur Herausforderung. Heute (wie auch schon die letzten 1,5 Wochen): Postkarten abschicken. An und für sich nicht so schwer, doch da wir sie schon am 2. Tag schrieben und sie noch immer nicht den Weg zu den Adressierten antraten vielleicht exemplarisch. Die Post hat im Gegensatz zu bsp. den Lebensmittelgeschäften häufig nur bis 14 oder 15h geöffnet.  Was in Anbetracht des Klimas schwieriger ist als Gedacht bzw. mit sehr frühem aufstehen verbunden ist um nicht in die totale Mittagssonne zu geraten, die es mir schwer macht längere Zeit draußen zu sein. Zudem gibt es einen großen Andrang, welcher durch die Aussicht eine Wartenummer zu ziehen und geschätzt zwanzig Minuten zu warten auch nicht gerade einläd. Nach vergangenen Versuchen rappelten wir uns heute gegen 13.h auf das Haus zu verlassen um endgültig die Karten abzusenden, was zum einen mit 30° voller Sonne und einer verschlossenen Tür des Postoffice belohnt wurde. Denn der Freitagnachmittag in unseren Köpfen ist gleichzeitig der Endspurt vor dem Shabbat, was konkret bedeutet, die Geschäfte schließen ohnehin schon früher allerdings gerne auch nochmal früher als angegeben. So standen wir auch um 13:45 vor verschlossenen Türen des Museum On the Seam und kauften zum Abschluss nach dem Fußmarsch durch die Sadt noch etwas zu essen… Es gibt unglaubliche Süßigkeiten, die besonders gerne zu Shabbat gegessen werden, allerdings ist es schwer nicht alle dieser kleinen Monster schon vorher aufzuessen.

Sukkot, das große jüdische Freudenfest beginnt gerade. Ich ziehe es vor zu Hause zu bleiben, weil mir noch unbehaglich ist mit meinem touristischen Blick/ Verhalten an den Traditionen teilzunehmen ohne situiertes Wissen. Die Stadt ist voller Sukkot, deren äußerlicher Charme den Installationen Thomas Hirschhorns gleichen und deren Innenräume dekoriert sind mit Dingen, die mich unweigerlich an die pompösen Eisbecherdekorationen meiner Kindheit denken lassen. Dies sind sozusagen die meisten Modelle, allerdings gerade in der Nähe von Bars und Hotels, gibt es auch mit weißem Stoff umspannte und Palmenlaub bedeckte Metallgestelle deren inneres eher meine Erwartungen an eine Raffaello-Party weckt. Ich habe keinen weißen Leinenanzug dabei.

Ein weißer Leinenanzug ist außerdem ein gutes Kleidungsstück um das Innere der Knesset zu betreten. Der Dresscode nach eigenen Angaben: “One is not permitted to enter the Knesset wearing tank-tops, shorts, or jeans. “Crocs” shoes are not permitted unless they are black or navy. Men may not enter wearing sandals, and women are not permitted to enter wearing belly-shirts.” Welche Verschwörung es mit den Crocs auf sich hat, werde ich noch ergründen…  Allerdings waren sowohl Menschen mit Jeans, als auch mit Shorts anwesend, sodass es mich noch mehr verstörte, wieso ich, wie Ulla schon berichtete, meine schöne pinke Kette ausziehen musste, wenngleich ich doch von einem der ersten Wachmänner des Knessetgeländes ein Kompliment dafür bekam (was allenfalls durch sein Maschinengewehr getrübt wurde). Es ist merkwürdig welch hoher Stellenwert “korrekte” Kleidung hier beigemessen wird… Dazu unten mehr. Wer mit dem Ziel die Knesset besucht etwas über die interessante Architektur oder das System der politischen Repräsentation zu erfahren kann sich getrost diese Erfahrung sparen: nach dem passieren von drei Wachmenschen, die den Pass kontrollieren, einen Visitor-Sticker auf die Kleidung kleben und sämtliches Gepäck in einen schwarzen Beutel verstauen, wird dieser zeitgleich geröngt während des Passieren des Metalldetektors mit anschließender Abtastung, woraufhin mensch – eine der wenigen Sachen die mensch noch selbst machen darf- den Gepäckbeutel eigenhändig zu Verwahrung aus dem Durchleuchter nehmen und der Verwahrung übergeben darf. Nur mit Kleidung und dem Sticker bewaffnet geht es dann zum eigentlichen Gebäude, wo eine vierzigminütige Führung beginnt. Noch eine kurzes Stück zur Kleidung. Wie sehr Kleidung codiert ist, trat uns das erste mal aktiv ins Bewusstsein bei der Erfahrung mit Ulla in dem ultraorthodoxen Viertel auf unserem Streifzug wo wir auch das Museum On the Seam entdeckten. Das zweite mal bei dem Dresscode in der Knesset. Hier werden explizit andere Dinge verworfen und andere Körper sind gewichtig, anderes materialisiert und die Kleidung ist Ausdruck der Subjekte die sie erschafft und von denen sie erschaffen wird. Geht man durch ein Haredim Viertel gibt es nur schwarze und weiße Stoffe. Haut außer Hände und Gesicht ist nicht sichtbar. Wie grotesk dieses an sich faszinierende Verweigern der weltlichen Mode ist zeigt sich bei einigen Ashkenasim, die ihre Kleidung scheinbar seit der Vertreibung aus Osteuropa nicht mehr aktualisierten und mit Hose, Hemd, Mantel, (Crocs) und Fellmütze durch Jerusalem ziehen. Wie groß da das Verworfene ist passt noch nicht in meinen Kopf.

Draußen sind freudige Gesänge zu hören. Und Galit rief mich eben an und lud mich ein zu einer Sukka. Für ein Essen auf dem Dach braucht es keinen Leinenanzug.

2.Ha részt vettél az előző Ribancok éjszakáján, milyen élményekkel távoztál?

R:Igen részt vettem, felejthetetlen este volt, nagyon jól éreztem magam, jó volt a társaság is…:D Csak a lábam látta kárát az estének..xd

R:Hát sajnos nem, de az ajándékról annyit, hogy Cinyuval tuti mi vesszük a legrajosabb cuccot Dancsinak…;)

4.Véleményed szerint lesz-e folytatása a Ribancok éjszakája partysorozatnak? És ha igen szerinted mi jöhet ezek után?

R:Reménykedem benne,hogy lesz,bár ahogy ismerlek titeket biztos…:D Idén is sokan ünneplik még a szülinapjukat, meg jön a karácsony,szilveszter…azokat sem hagyhatjuk ki..;)

When a kid talks back and is rude. I dont understand why they are rewarded.

When a parent tells a kid that they are not going to do something for them, because they have been misbehaving, or just plain lazy. Less than one day’s time the kid is off the hook, though they have done nothing to deserve  the pass…

I don’t understand!

When kids are liars and you know they are, why then do you defend them?

I don’t understand!

Am I missing something about raising kids to be productive citizens of  in our society. If we as Parents are not doing our jobs, how can we ever hope to have less crime, and better schools to educate the children who actually want to learn.

I find myself feeling so much sympathy for the Teachers of today. Now I know that they are not all excellent educators. However, we do have some good teachers. But if it takes over thirty minutes to quiet the class, then actually how much instruction is left in a classr  period? How can the instructor know who is present and who is absent, if the noise level is so loud that the calling of the roll can not be heard because students are doing everything Except listening to the teacher? Then a letter goes home to the Parent, stating that their kid has missed school, or class. Then What?

Naturally the Parent will defend the kid. How do you as a Parent know that the kid was actually in the class? Oh yeah, you did drop them off at school that morning. Now, do you actually know that the kid was in school for the entire day?

I have seen some things that happen between Parents, and their offspring, that I can’t believe. I sometimes wonder who is actually in control. parents are so afraid that the child will not love them,until they just give too much of the wrong thing. Children crave discipline. I am not talking about the abusive  type of discipline. I do not believe in hitting. I do believe in taking away privileges. Things like, television,MP3 players,movies,visting with their friends,and any kind of enjoyment. I believe in grounding (You must follow through,even after you are no longer angry).

You can not expect kids to respect you if you are weak, and never stand firm with them. I thought my Parents were too strict. But I can appreciate all of their rules, and restrictions now. Had I been left to raise myself, God only knows what I would have become.

Just thought I needed to get this off my chest. I have seen too much slackness in our society, due to POOR Parenting. Children are born as blank slates. Parents write their pages. Kids will go as far as you allow them to go. You must be the Parent, and not their Friend when it comes to Parenting and training.

So, go ahead and scream at me, and tell me that it’s a different time. The Bible never changes, and it is fill with Parenting guidelines. But no one reads the good book any more. Most Parents would rather follow the instructions provided by some Psychologist, and it “Ain’t Working”. Look around You!

Right Now, “Do you know where your child is?” Not where he (she) said they were going, but where they really are.

Think about it, kids are people with minds, and thought of  their own. You need to set rules and regulation for them to follow. When they leave your home to start out on their own, you need to feel good about them  leaving. You need to know that you have given them the tools to  keep them on the right road. If you have given them all of the tools they need, and they decide to take a different road. “It’s Not Your Fault”!

 There are parents who believe that they can blame the poor behavior of their children on the teacher’s dresscode. Well, that a lot of balony. Leave the teacher’s dresscode to the Principal. What the teacher is wearing has nothing to do with how your child is behaving….. teachers should have more respect for themselves than to dress like the students. I think Principals should enforce the dress code for teachere, just as they do for students. If a teacher shows up to work with his (her) behind or any part of their anatomy showing,Send Them back Home… and for the time that they are out DOCK Their Pay. Teachers should know better.

How can you as a teacher demand respect, if your breast and stomach is hanging out, and you are almost naked standing in front of a classroom of  impressionable children. You don’t have to like what I am saying here,and frankly I don’t care. You as a teacher are in charge of America’s future, so act like it and dress as a professional.

1.Mit jelent számodra a HALLOWEEN?
N:Halloween az USA-ban országszerte ünnepelt ünnep, amikor a gyerekek jelmezbe öltözve cukorkákat kéregetnek a szomszédoktól. Magyarországon is egyre népszerűbb és közkedvelt. Ált. Iskolában ünnepeltük azóta nem igazán….

2.Ha részt vettél az előző Ribancok éjszakáján, milyen élményekkel távoztál?
N:Természetesen részt vettem,mert meghívást kaptam…különböző okokból változatos volt számomra az az éjszaka. Eni sokat segített annak érdekében,hogy jól teljen =)

N:Egyenlőre még nem osztották meg velem a celebek ,h milesz-.- de remélem megkapom az infókat énis…

N:Remélem,hogy nem ez lesz az utolsó. Remélem egy mikulásbuli is lesz,de ha nem akkor a szilveszteri buli gondolom,hogy tervben van.

R: Nem mondhatnám, hogy túl sokat jelent, vagyis nincs túl nagy hagyománya itthon, ezért az egészről csak annyit tudok, amennyit a filmekből leszűrtem. ezek alapján jó lehet, szóval jó lenne, ha Magyarországon is ünnepelnénk.

R: Írtó jó volt! Mindenképp életem legjobb partijai közé tartozik.

R: Szinte mérget mernék venni arra, hogy nem ez lesz az utolsó buli. hogy mi jöhet? hát ha más nem, egy szilveszteri buli mindenképp!
