These pics are lifted third hand from Wrecked Magazine and D-Town. Mike Pollard and Derek King, both drivers for TMF Opposition have been out in California at Irwindale Speedway trying to get their national Pro Formula D licenses. The top 16 qualifiers end up getting what they came for.

Derek got one qualifying run in while his car had a serious wiring problem that resulted in a fire. Still he qualified 16th. That’s a license!
Mike qualified FIRST and then went on to take second place in the competition. Here are the pics from the event. CONGRATS DUDES!

The Capital D season is over for the year as you may have noticed by the mayhem at the end of September and if you didn’t, you haven’t been following Speed Hero. We forgive you, this time.

Over the off season there are a number of practice days, like today, a free for all of noobs and veterans trying to hone their skills are find a reason for an engine swap or new platform all together.

I rode along with Warren in his eightsex since my ride ended up on the ferry back to van on three cylinders. The turn out was impressive, somewhere between 13 and 16 at any given time.

As always, the numbers were dominated by S13’s and 86’s but this time around we had Jeff in his newly 5 speeded Cressy.

Finishing the swap through the night he was ready for a sleep deprived romp around the track.

Warren’s 86 sounded strong and angry on the track. He and Jeff started off strong for two guys who’ve never tracked their cars.

Now you’ll have to trust me when I say there is a rainbow in the next picture, I assume the rainbow was a vampire and doesn’t show up in photographs. Phil followed the rainbow, hoping for a pot of gold.

Instead he got a concrete sammich.

The weather was erratic all day going from sun and cloud to rain, to heavier rain it made for a chilly day. It also meant the track was nice and slick for the folks that are new to the whole drift experience. It also meant disaster for a couple of cars.

As always, I’m bored with typing so with this one last point I’m just going to dump what’s left of todays photos. There were two s13’s from the mainland. Their tandem runs were some of the best of the day, solid, massive slides.

The guy up there /\/\/\/\ and the guy down there \/\/\/\/

They probably have names. I’m sure I should find out. Luckily they came to me. Fantastic job Jason Debruyn and Mike Turpin.

I almost forgot, in one of the last runs of the evening Chris Scremin managed to finally slay the pink unicorn. It’s unconfirmed at this time if he was trying to drink the blood to gain immortality and is plotting the death of a young wizard.

One last shout out and thanks to the folks at Capital Drift, the practices are just as amazing as the competition. This is grassroots drifting at it’s finest.

Every year it’s part of my job at PlayNetwork to come up with a list of top albums and overall assessment of music trends for the year. Below is my brief review of what I felt was a pretty landmark year for electronic music in the US and in general. Barring any incredible releases over the next month, these are my picks for the year. Keep in mind this list is strictly made up of albums; not EPs, 12’s or remixes (i.e 95% of the electronic music I purchased this year).

2009 in Review : Binary Pop, Warp’s Legacy, Dub Mutations and the Return of Sexy Dance Music

2009 has been an incredibly innovative year in relation to music production. Artists like Animal Collective, Fever Ray, Royksopp and Moderat have proven once and for all that digital beats and electronic sound design can appeal to a pop audience that otherwise wouldn’t find themselves listening to “electronic music”.

This year also marks the 20 year anniversary of the greatest electronic music label (arguably greatest label) of all time, Warp Records, which has had an exceptional year across the board with strong indie releases from Grizzly Bear and Maximo Park as well as strong releases from their more obscure electronic artists like Tim Exile and Clark. Warp’s 20th anniversary box set is not only one of the best reviewed collections of they year, it’s also a brilliant testament to the label’s vast catalog of ground breaking artists (i.e. Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Jamie Lidell, Nightmares on Wax, Prefuse 73, Autechre, Broadcast, Plaid, Battles, Squarepusher, etc).

In addition, 2009 witnessed the rise of Dubstep as a respected genre in the US through acclaimed UK labels like Hyperdub (Burial, Kode9, Joker, Zomby, Flying Lotus) and Tectonic (2562, Martyn, DJ Pinch, Benga) both of whom continue to blur the boundaries between Grime, Dub, West Coast Hip Hop and Detroit Techno. With the avid support of tastemakers like BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Low End Theory’s Daddy Kev (Alpha Pup Records) UK Dubstep and West Coast Glitch Hop / Hip Hop have both become quintessential styles on the electronic music frontline in the US. From Burning Man to this year’s Movement festival in Detroit, Dubstep and Glitch Hop have fully emerged in 2009 as a staple sound in North America.

Another emerging trend has been the Deep House and Tech House revival, which has been experiencing a resurgence the past few years as club-goers have tired of the heady, sterility of Minimal Techno and the frenetic, over the top sound of Electro House. Artists like Gui Boratto, Voodeux, Pezzner, Milton Jackson, Stimming, Mode D, Catz n Dogz, DJ T and Dixon have all helped in keeping underground dance music both sexy and musical.

Overall 2009 has been a phenomenal year for technologically driven music, proving that creativity is truly catching up with the tools used for musical expression in the digital age.

Caught this photo with my phone at a recent Raceway Park practice day.  Can’t even tell what series tire he’s running anymore…

Fellesstyret har i de senere år gjentatte ganger minnet om at det mangler vindussprosser i mange vinduer i boligblokker i området vårt. I tillegg har det i enkelte leiligheter blitt skiftet vinduer som avviker vesentlig fra de øvrige vinduer. Det tar seg ikke pent og det grenser opp til fasadeendring som i verste fall kan innebære pålegg fra bygningsmyndighetene.

Det ble registrert 177 vinduer på Tonsenhagen som manglet vindussprosser, foruten 8 vinduer uten verken midtdeler eller sprosser.

I vårt sameie er det oppdaget 16 vinduer uten sprosser. Vedkommende bør irettesette seg de gjeldene regler.

Funny little side note.

They also come from Fukuoka city which located on the island of Kyushu. so in summary, there name is a play on japanese words, tells people where there from and explains there style is “old school car explosion”… what other language can you do that just by changing one letter.

I even like the interior. The front bumper looks nice too.

This fast paced, action packed drifting event thrilled everyone with cars sliding sideways, smoking tyres and even stunt performances by Mattie Griffin. The afternoon rain drenched the track, increasing the difficulty for the drivers.
