What I find fascinating about this video is how it was choreographed. We’ve all seen drifting before but the cinematography here made all the difference for this short movie. The art direction is way cool. The timed slo-mo cuts intertwined by the fast action grips you. And all the near misses with some unbelievable stunts made it all the sweeter.

Going down an echoing, silent stairway in the early hours of the morning, in the last hours of the night, stepping out into an empty courtyard. The wind takes the smoke and the ash, scatters them into the darkness.

Standing alone, in the cold. It’s quiet everywhere. Except in my head.

Except in my head.

I resolve, every morning, to stay away. To silence the voices, the doubts, the questions, the hopes and the fears. To hoard up my words and keep them for myself, only. Because giving words to you must always make them mean something.

But of course, the resolve is broken, almost as soon as it is made. And along with my words, I find myself inevitably giving you my doubts, my questions, my hopes and my fears.

And no answers seem forthcoming.

These pics are lifted third hand from Wrecked Magazine and D-Town. Mike Pollard and Derek King, both drivers for TMF Opposition have been out in California at Irwindale Speedway trying to get their national Pro Formula D licenses. The top 16 qualifiers end up getting what they came for.

Derek got one qualifying run in while his car had a serious wiring problem that resulted in a fire. Still he qualified 16th. That’s a license!
Mike qualified FIRST and then went on to take second place in the competition. Here are the pics from the event. CONGRATS DUDES!

SYDNEY (AFP) – More than 100, and possibly hundreds, of Antarctic icebergs are floating towards New Zealand in a rare event which has prompted a shipping warning, officials said on Monday.

An Australian Antarctic Division glaciologist said the ice chunks, spotted by satellite photography, had passed the Auckland Islands and were heading towards the main South Island, about 450 kilometres (280 miles) northeast.

Scientist Neal Young said more than 100 icebergs — some measuring more than 200 metres (650 feet) across — were seen in just one cluster, indicating there could be hundreds more.

He said they were the remains of a massive ice floe which split from the Antarctic as sea and air temperatures rise due to global warming.

“All of these have come from a larger one that was probably 30 square kilometres (11.6 square miles) in size when it left Antarctica,” Young told AFP.

“It’s done a long circuit around Antarctica and now the bigger parts of it are breaking up and producing smaller ones.”

He said large numbers of icebergs had not floated this close to New Zealand since 2006, when a number came within 25 kilometres of the coastline — the first such sighting since 1931.

“They’re following the same tracks now up towards New Zealand. Whether they make it up to the South Island or not is difficult to tell,” Young said.

New Zealand has already issued coastal navigation warnings for the area in the Southern Ocean where the icebergs have been seen.

“It’s really just a general warning for shipping in that area to be on the alert for icebergs,” said Maritime New Zealand spokesman Ross Henderson.

The icebergs are smaller remnants of the giant chunks seen off Australia’s Macquarie Island this month, including one estimated at two kilometres (1.2 miles) and another twice the size of Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” Olympic Stadium.

Young earlier told AFP he expected to see more icebergs in the area if the Earth’s temperature continues to increase.

“If the current trends in global warming were to continue I would anticipate seeing more icebergs and the large ice shelves breaking up,” he said.

When icebergs last neared New Zealand in 2006, a sheep was helicoptered out to be shorn on one of the floes in a publicity stunt by the country’s wool industry.

“Where are you going?” 

Pa asked me as I headed out. A simple question, to which the simple answer was: “Out driving to my friend’s house.” 

To which the alternative answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know where I am going. The boat is drifting now. It’s not rudderless. There is a rudder. It’s just not being used right now. 

To be honest, the boat is not even drifting anymore. I dropped anchor. It’s not so bad. My heart feels leaden, but I could be somewhere worse. At least here I have some cash coming in and my own writing. Good friends, family close at hand, and love. I will stay here for a while. Take stock. Listen and breathe deeply. I will still dream and still wish and still hope. Chart the currents and the stars. Evaluate the horizons. 

And I will wait, but not for long. When the voice calls, I will weigh anchor. Perhaps I will be purposeful, using the rudder to steer myself determinedly. More so, I feel, I will let my little vessel drift. It may horrify some, still others will relate. To drift, at the current’s whim. 

Where are you going? I don’t think I will ever know. For now, Pa, I go nowhere. I am here, in my spot, staying still and biding until anchor’s away.
