… na plochu počítače se mi povedla vytvořit díky dropboxu a konečně jsem přišel na způsob jak ji nasdílet i pro nedropboxaře.  Takže galerka je ZDE, rozdělena do klasických tří kategorií:

• e = ecchi
• a = anime
• o = others

Pokud by někdo z vás dropbox používal a rozhodl se že nějaké ty tématické wallpapery má k dispozici, stačí se mi ozvat.

L’heure est venue pour les Mac Aficionados de découvrir le «Cloud computing». Sous cette jolie appellation métaphorique (traduction anglaise pour «l’informatique dans les nuages»), le nom révèle un méthode qui gagne de plus en plus de popularité dans le domaine de l’informatique.

Pour faire simple, il s’agit d’une méthode de sauvegarde des données d’un utilisateur sur des serveurs informatiques distants reliés par des bandes passantes, données auquel il a accès, quel que soit le le lieu ou le temps.

Un article précédent présentait quelques applications fonctionnant sur ce mode, dont l’excellentissime DropBox. MobileMe, d’Apple est également un exemple de la méthode du «cloud computing».

Les avantages sont une sécurité accrue de la conservation des données, puisqu’elles se retrouvent à la fois sur l’ordinateur et sur un serveur distant, et une accessibilité en tous temps (faute panne du serveur!). Généralement payantes, ces méthodes de conservation de données sont populaires car elles permettent  également à des utilisateurs de partager du contenu.

L’application Evernote en est une qui révolutionner l’utilisation de prises de notes de bien des Mac Aficionados!

Evernote vous permet de conserver des notes, des extraits entiers de  pages web, du contenu audio, des documents de travail (comme les cours, par exemple!), des photos, des cartes virtuelles…bref, un tas d’informations indispensables pour qui vit dans l’ère du numérique!

Simple comme «Bonjour» de Mac (et oui!, fonctionnalité qui relie les ordinateurs en réseaux, là aussi pour faire simple!), vous n’aurez qu’à glisser dans l’interface d’Evernote le document en question, et à laisser la synchronisation automatique s’opérer. à Moins que vous ne préféreriez prendre une photo depuis la caméra de votre ordinateur et la transférer directement à Evernote qui se chargera du reste.

La cerise sur le gâteau: Evernote vous permet de TOUT retrouver! TOUT, absolument TOUT!!! Vous pourrez en effet rechercher un mot clé qui figure dans un document PDF en quelques secondes! Les adresses que vous avez sauvées et oubliées referont surface en un rien de temps!

L’application vous fait bénéficier d’un espace de stockage gratuit (à la manière de DropBox) que vous pourrez augmenter en adhérant à un plan premium.

Mac Aficionados, Evernote est un MUST. Aucune excuse de ne pas l’intégrer à votre «style de vie numérique»!

This app is something I’ve been looking for for a really long time, “Dropbox“. This app is definitely the easiest way to sync files online through computers and through your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s simple, elegant, and extremely useful.

If you’re on a Wi-Fi or 3G network you can simply access or share files on the go with this app. You can share photos and videos by dropping them into a certain folder you’ve created via Dropbox. So for instance, me and a friend created a folder and when ever I drop something into that folder, he’ll receive it. You can share up to 2 gigabytes and upgrade your account if you want more space.

I really like how the developers integrated this into an iPhone app. Dropbox is broken down into three simple sections; “favorites, my dropbox, and settings”. Favorites is really just what files you’ve favored, so it’s pretty self-explanatory. “My Dropbox” is a list of the files you’ve created. All you need to do is click on a file and you have instant access to it. Lastly, there’s the settings section. What this section involves is details about your Dropbox account , and other basic information.

Overall, Dropbox is an amazingly simple to use file sharing app. It’s very stable, innovative, useful, and not to mention its FREE.

Martin Malý (známější pod dívčím jménem Arthur Dent) se vyznal ze svého citu k Dropboxu. OK, jeho články mám rád a nejednou se staly zdrojem ukojení nejstrašnějších tužeb. A ani tentokrát se netrefil vedle! Potřebu sdílecí služby jsem v koutku mozku, kde se krčí zdravý rozum, potěžkával už dlouho. Jen jsem o tom chtěl vědět víc, ale neměl jsem se koho zeptat (jo, i tohle jsou nevýhody toho, když jste nejchytřejší na světě). A jako vždy, informace mi nakonec spadla do klína úplně sama.

Protože (a všichni to víte, nesnažte se to zapřít!) používám adrenalinové linuxové distribuce openSUSE, pochopitelně jsem předpokládal, že instalace bude legrace a že zbytek dlouhého večera budu věnovat svým milovaným paralenům a čaji s vůní a téměř i chutí citrónu. A nespletl jsem se. V repozitáři openSUSE Build Service se nacházel příslušný .rpm balíček, Yast se postaral o závislosti a bylo hotovo. Práce (ehm) asi tak na 30 vteřin.

Po instalaci se spustilo okno s nabídkou přihlášení k existujícímu dropboxímu účtu či k vytvoření účtu nového, jeden klik, druhý klik a vymalováno. V /home vznikla nová složka s podsložkami (defaultní Photos a Public) a v systrai svítí ikonka modré krabice.

Si eres un maquero, estarás de acuerdo conmigo de que a pesar de que en Mac no existen tantas aplicaciones como en Windows, las que existen generalmente son realmente buenas y en muchos casos mejores tanto en diseño como en funcionalidad con respecto a las aplicaciones de Windows.

En TUAW hacen una pequeña lista de 10 aplicaciones que sin duda debemos de tener en nuestra Mac, viendo la lista prácticamente, puedo decir que estoy de acuerdo, ya que hago uso de esas aplicaciones, entre algunas de las aplicaciones tenemos:

VLC .- Si hay algo que no me gusta de mi Macbook del 2007 es que cuando quiero ver películas en 1080p , en muchas ocasiones mi mac sufre mucho al reproducirlas, de todos los reproductores VLC es el que mejor hace su trabajo al reproducir vídeos en la Mac.

Firefox.- Pues el zorrito que casi todos conocen o usan, un gran navegador, con un sin fin de herramientas y plugins, lastima que coma tantos recursos al sistema, como opción les recomiendo Google Chrome, que a pesar de estar aun en fase Beta en Mac, me encanta lo rápido y liviano que es, hoy en día este es mi navegador por defecto.

Adium.- El pato de la Mac, es un cliente que soporta distintos servicios , pero sobre todo para los que vienen de Windows acepta las cuentas de messenger, altamente configurable, muy funcional y bonito, me gusta mas que messenger definitivamente.

Growl.- Es un notificador de eventos, básicamente se adapta a muchas de las aplicaciones en Mac, su función es sencilla mostrar ciertos datos o eventos que realiza un aplicación.

Dropbox.- No te gusta MobileMe, se te hace muy caro, pues Dropbox es tu alternativa, te permite tener una carpeta en el sistema la cual se sincronizara en la Nube para poder acceder a ella en cualquier lugar, ofrece 2gb de almacenamiento gratis.

Updated with new information from Dropbox: You don’t go into file backup and syncing for the fame and glory, but that’s what it seems to be yielding for 2-year-old Dropbox. Simply put, people — including my GigaOM coworkers and I — love Dropbox because it works. “We do have a rabid following,” Dropbox CEO Drew Houston admitted in a conversation today.

Over the summer Dropbox raised a $7.25 million Series A round from Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners, adding to $1.5 million in seed money it brought in from Sequoia Capital and Y Combinator in 2007. Accel’s Sameer Gandhi, who had previously led Sequoia’s investment has since become a partner at Accel, led the round. We found out about the Series A via an SEC filing; Houston confirmed the funding had closed but said that the filing was not the final amount. Houston said the company had not yet disclosed its A round because up until last month it was in the process of obtaining the URL dropbox.com from a domain squatter.

He later contacted us (after this article was posted) to share more details. Dropbox had raised $1.2 million in debt in 2007 from Sequoia Capital and that along with interest (on that amount) converted to equity as part of the Series A investment, which included a fresh slug of $6 million. That brings company’s total investment raised to date to $7.25 million. Houston claimed that the round was closed in October 2008, though the documents were filed with the SEC in July 2009. The round was led by Sequoia Capital with participation from Accel Partners.

Dropbox now has 3 million registered users, up from 2 million in September and 1 million in April. Nearly 1.5 million of them were active in the last month, including 300,000 using the company’s new iPhone app, according to Houston. And many of those folks identify themselves as Dropbox lovers, with more than 35,000 signing up to be Twitter followers and 23,000 as Facebook fans. A 2-week-old feature that allows the community to vote on new features has garnered nearly 10,000 votes for the top choice: selectively syncing certain files or folders rather than a whole account.

Alongside other lightweight web apps like Gmail infiltrating the enterprise, Dropbox customers (an undisclosed portion pay $10-$20 per month for additional storage) are now using the simple tool to do their jobs. In some ways, the migration is flowing in the opposite direction — a traditionally enterprise concept is now available to everybody. And Dropbox, as could be expected, says it will offer tools for corporate collaboration in a more formal fashion early next year.

San Francisco-based Dropbox has just 20 employees. The service currently stores nearly 1.3 million gigabytes of data.

1. Dropbox

Not only is Dropbox a great file host, it also allows you to sync files across multiple computers and devices. A free account comes with a 2GB hosting limit.

2. Box.net

An amazing file host that allows you to make folders, share files, collaborate, and keep track of file version history. The free (“lite”) account gets you 1GB of storage, and maximum 25MB upload.

3. Windows Live SkyDrive

SkyDrive is great file hosting site by Microsoft, with SkyDrive you get 25GB of storage, and integrates perfectly with Windows Live.

I thought I’d share a post about how to use Dropbox to share OneNote Notebooks across mulitple PCs. Feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.

So…the trick is determining what to do with OneNote across the Internet.  How can you share it amongst geographically dispersed PCs?  Well, if you’re trying to share it within your organization, OneNote will allow you to collaborate across a file share or other domain-type resource (built-in functionality).  But, if you’re trying to share with a personal computer, a work computer, or a friend’s computer in Timbuktu…you need an external solution.  That solution for me was Dropbox.

Dropbox is an application that you attach to a particular folder on your PC and it will syncronize it with the web and any other PC attached to this folder.  It’s got good security, speed, and not too much overhead on your CPU.  When you make changes to file, particularly large ones, it will only push out the difference (as opposed to the entire file) – thus saving on time and bandwidth.

How do we go about connecting these two?  Below is a pretty straight-forward step-by-step for setting up OneNote to work over a Dropbox file share.  I’ve been using this between home and work for a week or so now, and it’s been great.  The beauty of it, is you can collaborate with the other person…and within a few seconds of making a change on one PC, it will be seen on the other PCs!

Step 1:  Install Dropbox on PC #1

Step 2:  Make sure you haveOneNote on PC #1

If not, you can download a free trial using one of the links here on www.iheartonenote.com

Step 3:  Open OneNote

Step 4:  Create a New Notebook

Step 5:  Name Your New Notebook

Give your new Notebook a name.  Aside from the name displayed in OneNote, this will also become a sub-folder within Dropbox.

Step 6:  Set Folder Location to a Dropbox Folder

Most Vista users will have a Path structure similar to this for Dropbox.  I’ve decided to put it in my “Private” Dropbox folder, and created a “OneNote” folder to include any and all of my OneNote Notebooks.

Step 7:  Set the Type of Sharing You’d Like to Have

My understanding is that the option I’ve chosen here allows multiple people to make changes to the Notebook simultaneously.  This is where the magic is.  Even if you have OneNote open on multiple PCs, changes on one will cause Dropbox to send updates to other machines.  When the other machines get updates, OneNote will make adjustments and display those changes on-the-fly.  It can take a few seconds, but it certainly works!  Of course, if you only use one of them at a time it will show the updates when you open at the other PC.

Step 8:  Repeat Steps #1 and #2 on your Second (Third, Fourth, etc…) PCs

Step 9:  Open the Shared Dropbox Folder on PC #2 (3, 4, etc…)

Step 10:  Start Taking Notes!

It’s really pretty much that simple!

It’s WebWorkerDaily’s fault that I’ve bought an iPod touch (s aapl). (That’s my excuse, anyway.) As I looked at potential subjects to write about, I kept seeing cool apps, and I need to be able to test them, right?

But why not buy an iPhone, or a Palm Pre, which I’d had my eye on for several months? The Pre seems to be a good phone, but it doesn’t yet have the apps that the iPhone does. And the monthly fees for Pre service are considerably higher than what I’m paying now. The iPhone’s monthly fees are even higher, and many folks I’ve talked to don’t find it to be a very good phone.

So, keeping my current phone and buying an iPod touch seemed like a good compromise. I can get good Wi-Fi coverage in most areas where I live, so I’ll be able to go online, even without the phone function.

Many of my WWD colleagues already have iPhones. Aliza has recently written about good apps for web workers. Dawn’s shared her favorites, too. But with the holidays coming up, here are some of my ideas for apps to put on that brand-new iPhone or iPod touch:

Communication

• eBuddy. A multi-service instant message client for MSN/Windows Live (s msft), AIM, Yahoo (s yhoo), Gtalk (s goog), ICQ, Facebook Chat and MySpace Chat. Supports multiple accounts on the same service. Versions for web, Android and other platforms also available. Free.
• Facebook. A well-designed way for Facebook users to keep up with their friends while on the road. The app has had its issues, but they are apparently fixed now. Free.
• Gist. Scott and I have both found Gist useful, and the Gist iPhone app does a pretty good job of presenting a lot of information in a small space. Free.
• LinkedIn. This app keeps LinkedIn users, er, “linked in” from their iPhones and iPod touches. The latest upgrade adds some nice features, including an inbox for LinkedIn messages. Free.
• Nimbuzz. You can use this app to make inexpensive international calls over Wi-Fi. The app also includes a chat function, but it’s pretty rudimentary compared to eBuddy. Free app; rates for calls vary.
• RingCentral. If you’re a RingCentral user, you can use this app to manage your phone messages and more. Free for RingCentral users.
• Tweetie. There are lots of Twitter apps, but so far, I like Tweetie the best. It has a clean interface, and supports multiple Twitter accounts. Thanks for the tip, Darrell! $2.99.
• Waveboard. Mobile access to Google Wave. Will hopes for better access soon; I imagine that this app will become more sophisticated as Wave does. $0.99.

File and Idea Management

• Dropbox. This app is another reason to love Dropbox, which many of us at WWD do. As one would expect from Dropbox, it just works. Free.
• Evernote. My colleagues at WWD like Evernote, too, and I’ve finally seen the light. It’s a great replacement for PhatNotes, which I used to use with various Palm (s palm) products. (The Palm versions are apparently no longer available.) Free.

News

• Reeder. A very nice and elegant RSS reader that syncs with Google Reader. $0.99.

Just about every news source also has its own iPhone/iPod touch app these days. So far, I’ve been impressed with the ones from NPR and from some news outlets that have used the PodCurry platform.

Password Management

• 1Password. Manage and sync passwords. I’ve been playing with the brand-new version 3, and it’s good enough that I’ve moved from SplashID after many years. Use Dropbox with 1Password to make your password data available on multiple machines. $7.99.
• LastPass. Manage and sync passwords across multiple machines. The Firefox add-on for this service was included in WWD’s Add-Ons Collection. Apps for iPhones and other mobile devices available with premium membership, $12/year.

I’ve barely begun finding fun stuff, but I think I’m off to a good start with the Google Earth app, and TriPeaks Lite. I’m sure that I’ll find more, but I really need to get back to work now. Happy holidays!

Today in class we worked on our podcast project. Aside from some frustration trying to post the podcast on wiki space, the project went fairly smoothly. The most difficult part of the project was the fact that we all used a different computer and each experienced some form of technical problem. However, I’m glad that everything worked out fine in the end for me at least. I was really excited to see my finished product and I thought it was awesome that we were able to post it on the wiki space. As a result of posting it on wiki, I was able to share our project with my family in Taiwan and they were able to hear my sweet voice. I believe that my experience producing my first podcast has made me more confident in making recordings. Now that I know how to use “garage band”, I will be well prepared to produce episodes relating to various subjects when teaching my students.

Another thing I would like to talk about is the tool “dropbox”. I believe that Dr. Ransom mentioned “dropbox” in a previous class. At my assistantship at the “Center of Excellence in Math and Science” there is only one computer that is shared by two grad students. As a result, I often have to work at the computer lab. It’s a pain because I have to send documents from the computer to myself via email, so that I can work on it at the computer lab. Recently, my professor suggested that I try using “dropbox” to share the projects that we work on. Since then I have been doing a lot of downloading and have found this tool be very helpful. I no longer have to walk back and forth to the computer lab in order to save the documents that I’m working on.

I’m continuing to learn that we are surrounded great technological tools that can be used to make teaching and our lives easier. Sometimes we need to take a step back and consider ways to use these tools to make our work more efficient. Being in a professional environment has helped me gain exposure to various resources. It’s important that we share what we learn with others so they can also use these tools to make their lives a little easier.

In D2L, you have the capability of editing multiple items on one screen for Content, Dropbox, Quizzes and Grades. This is especially useful for the converted courses. For example, you can hide enumeration for all the items in Content at once. However, the options that you can edit on the multiple items page are limited. For some detailed settings, you still need to edit the items one by one. Let’s look at what you can do on the edit multiple items page for Content, Dropbox, Quizzes and Grades.

First, you have to use the checkbox in the left upper corner to select all the items. Then, click on the double pencil icon to bring up the edit multiple items page.

Content

In Content, you can change titles, hide or make files available, and hide enumeration.

Dropbox

In Dropbox, you will see the list of assignment folders on the page. You can change the name of assignments and the assignment’s category if you have categories set up, as well as set the date availability for the assignments (which maybe the most useful option).

Grades
In Grades, you can change the name of Grade items, max points, weight, grade scheme, and category. You may find the capability of editing points here is the most useful option.

Quizzes
In Quizzes, you can change the name of quizzes and the assignment’s category, make the quizzes active or inactive, and change the attempts allowed setting. If you are using Start date to control the availability, make sure it is set to active so students will see the quizzes when Start date begins.

This little thing has quickly improved the way I work and become organized. Instead of emailing myself documents to work on from home or print somewhere else, I drop them in my box, and have them everywhere. Laptop, desktop, iPhone, internet.

It can be helpful in ministry too. It is really easy to share recordings, song charts, and rotation schedules with your band/team.
