Guitarist C.J. Peirce said: “To all our fans: We’re in the studio working hard as hell 12/15-hour days seven days a week, making the best DROWNING POOL rock record to date! I honestly have never been more excited about our all our new material. All the songs are growing and changing for the better during this recording process. We promise you won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait to get these songs out to you all and start touring again.”

Drummer Mike Luce said: ”I’m kind of comparing it to buddies dug into the trenches. You’ve kind of been through some stuff that you can’t really put into words. It just makes you a tighter-knit family. We were starting to see our attributes, We’ve all grown up quite a bit regardless of the ups and downs. Everybody’s matured, older, and we better handle what’s expected of us when recording. We’re writing some of the very best stuff we’ve ever been a part of. We’re starting to learn the ins and outs of Ryan and he of us. Writing is a more tighter, easier experience.”

Such a great raw song.

Anyways, listening to drowning pool now, looking for new good stuff. Need to continue the self improvement. And get back to doing school work like I should. So much wasted time in a day. Talking to people tends to be wasteful, as is hanging out. Unless I have a deisre to do so that is. Last night, I layed down at 12, I would have been to bed early and up in time to work out maybe, and for sure go to my psy class with the special lecture… Im really sad I missed it because I slept through it. I think when Im first waking up my dark side is more in control because the light side isnt working for control yet.

Had a new idea for my phoenix tattoo today, based off what I saw with the long black feathers on the other tattoo. A single feather with a black and white squiggle down the length of it, with a red dot in the center at the end.

OK Computer by Radiohead? A brilliant idea.

Asking a physically active, rather lean 41-year-old with a high metabolism to fast from 8PM to 9AM the next morning, then jabbing him in the arm with a needle after a 45-minute cardiovascular workout, then, in response to his claim that he was passing out, saying “Oh, no you don’t?”

Not a brilliant idea.

Those are the two poles of brilliant ideas. Surely this falls somewhere in between:

According to an L.A. Times report, The Flaming Lips are set to follow-up their life- (and death)-affirming LP Embryonic with a full-album redo of Pink Floyd’s gazillion-selling 1973 psych-rock classic Dark Side of the Moon.

The Lips version of Dark Side is a collaboration with the band Stardeath and White Dwarfs (which includes Wayne Coyne’s nephew Dennis Coyne as a member), and features guest spots from Henry Rollins and Peaches. It will most probably be an iTunes-only release.

The announcement was made last night during a Q&A session with fans at a MySpace show last night at L.A.’s Nike/Ricardo Montalbán Theater.

Wow. The height of musical arrogance. Oh, and, by the way? I love musical arrogance.

To put a bow on this box, let’s go back to our discussion of bodies hitting the floor:

last night a little dancer came dancin’ to my door
last night a little angel came pumpin cross my floor
she said “come on baby i got a licence for love
and if it expires pray help from above”

in the midnight hour she cried- “more, more, more”
what set you free and brought you to be me babe
what set you free i need you hear by me

collects it to go from the seven eleven
well he’s out all night to collect a fare
just so long, just so long it don’t mess up his hair.

i walked the ward with you, babe
a thousand miles with you
i dried your tears of pain, babe
a million times for you

i’d sell my soul for you babe
for money to burn with you
i’d give you all, and have none, babe
just, just, justa, justa to have you here by me

So, I haven’t been on here in a while. I know this because I tried to log in several times then had to have the site send me my login and password to my email address then realized that the email attached to this account is in fact my OLD email address so I had to do five tries on login and password with my OLD email address, unsuccessfully, and have the password and login sent to my OLD OLD email address, which I knew I had no clue in remembering the login for that dinosaur post. Shockingly, I knew that login and password…the name of the girl I lost my virginity to and what she called out when she climaxed. WICKED PEACHES.

I’m drunk…duh. Had a brush up with Knob Creek this evening courtesy of my new favorite bartender at Rosie O’Boyles. Check her out Tuesday nights from 3-11. She’s gentle, gentlemen.

What the hell are we doing here? Anyone want to gesture a guess? Any right wing nazi accusers want to register a guess? See, ma’am, that’s just mean. And ironic. A hoe chasing a hoe chasing a hoe. FYI. You are going to die too. Probably painfully, like most of us.

I know, news flash. We are all going to die. So, my question, to Touchdown Jesus, is why are we here? What are we doing here? I just want to beat my own face in with a blunt instrument because I can’t wrap my brain around what is the purpose for us being here? Is it entertainment? Is God up there sitting on his couch with a bucket full of popcorn (extra butter, extra salt, cause God don’t have to worry ’bout no fatty acids) and a 40-Ounce of Beast (cause God ain’t got no liver) laughing his ass off, watching us fight each other (sorry, HAD to do it again, cause that lady is hellafunny) and cry and scramble around in His maze looking for a bite of cheese; knowing all the damn time…THERE AIN’T NO CHEESE. Matrix line, anyone. Maxtrix, please. Neo?

My name isn’t Neo, it’s Keanu: Dialogue

Thank you, Surfer Boy. It all makes sense now.

See, we live, we die. It’s as simple as that. Those of us who live longer get the wonderful experience of watching those of us we love die, which in some way will define our lives for a short time. Because the times when we feel the most alive are when we are experiencing love and experiencing death. The rest, in-between, is non-reactive.

So, is that the big purpose? Are we really living to accumulate loves, then die, to most impact those we love, thus shaping and changing their lives? Cause I can’t comprehend a more complex vision. At some point, our entire world will die, and those of us (or them, because one would hope that the ones alive right now will not get the opportunity to experience the death of our world) around at that time will feel such a sense of euphoria, such a feeling of orgasm of death…well, the rest of us will never feel those tingles on the tips of our fingers.

That’s why we are living? To experience death. That’s it? Sweet.

OMG!!!!!!!!

Eureka!!!!!!!

I figured it out!!!!!

I love Eureka moments!

And, sign me the hell up. Oh, that’s right. I’m already here. Cool. Talk about being in the right place at the right M-Fing time. Small pleasures.

So,

kill me then, already, kill me, cause I’m tired of waiting. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. Take me. TAke me. Taje me. Take me. Take me TAke me take me take me take me tamt me take me tame me tame me take me tahe me mtake me tame me take me mtame me taje me at ake me takem ektamtatemacme metamtematematem tamek mteametemat tematemtetmeam

by Vodes

Since 1981, Mötley Crüe has been cranking out hard rock and metal music to rabid fans around the world. Now, twenty-eight years later, the Crüe is still banging heads with the best of them. They released a new album and have put together a music festival, modestly named after themselves, with a lineup of some of today’s best and brightest rock musicians. I was lucky enough to catch Crüefest 2 last week and I was not disappointed. Let me take you on a tour of the White Trash Circus:

Crüefest 2 consisted of five bands on the main stage: Charm City Devils, Drowning Pool, Theory of a Deadman, Godsmack and, of course, Mötley Crüe headlining the event. There was also a second stage featuring some good, up-and-coming bands. I checked out a band called Schram, out of Detroit. These guys put on a good show. They had a ton of energy and seemed genuinely happy to get out on stage and play. I also caught a band called Silver Stone, out of Arkansas. They also put on a really good show. The singer was good and the guitar player shredded some pretty killer riffs. They also had a third band on the second stage, but I only caught a few of their tunes. Okay, okay, so I was waiting in the beer line and didn’t get over there in time. What? I was thirsty! Thankfully, the second stage was jamming while the main stage was setting up for the next band. I made my way back and forth from one stage to another all night long…with an occasional stop at the concessions.

Watch out, Crüe!

On to the main stage! I got to the main stage in time to catch Theory of a Deadman’s set. It was excellent! Those guys put on a great show. They brought the house down with a kick-ass rendition of ‘Bad Girlfriend’. Tyler Connolly sounded great on vocals and was tearing into his solos on guitar. A good show. The next band up was Godsmack. If I said the Godsmack set was awesome, it would be understating how great these guys are…what a freaking show these dudes put on. Sully is an absolute freak out front! And Shannon Larkin on drums is just ridiculous! They had a fantastic set of all their hits. If you weren’t singing along, you may have been dead because there was so much energy coming from these four guys that you couldn’t help but get up and jam. During the show, Sully jumps on a drum set and Larkin’s set rolls forward on the stage, and these two go face-to-face just beating the piss out of the drums. Sully is a talented guy, he sings, plays guitar, and oh yeah, just happened to play drums for twenty-plus years before he became a front man. You know what; I will make the statement that Godsmack was better then the Crüe on this particular evening. Yeah, I said it. Should it be called Smackfest?

Finally, the main event; the bad boys from L.A. themselves took the stage. After some brief theatrics in front of the curtain, the Mötley Crüe stage was revealed; a padded room with lights on the walls, leading back to the drum set. The remaining three members, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars came pouring out of the padded tunnel and they busted into Dr. Feelgood to open the show. The plan for this tour was to play the Dr. Feelgood album from front to back, in its entirety. That was fine by me! I have many favorites on that album and they played them all with gusto. ‘Kick Start My Heart’ and ‘Same Old Situation’ both sounded great. I did take note that Tommy Lee was not behind the drum kit. As it turns out, he injured his hand and the guy behind the kit was playing in his place until he healed up. That didn’t detract from the show, in my opinion. Tommy Lee is a good drummer, but nothing spectacular as drummers go. Average will always describe the bass playing of Nikki Sixx. Mick Mars and Vince Neil both sounded great, but didn’t knock my socks off.

Overall, this show is not to be missed! Godsmack was clearly the best band on this night. The Crüe sounded good, but I thought they lacked the sheer energy that they are easily capable of and have displayed in gaudy excess in years gone by. Check it out, if you dare!

Maybe I’m wired wrong, but I don’t see the appeal in concerts. I just went to Crue Fest

Maybe I’m wired wrong, but I don’t see the appeal in concerts. I just went to Crue Fest and I could have had more fun sitting at home playing games or surfing the web. I shall now document the events of last evening.

First thing I noticed is concert stands are way too damn expensive. I came with 10 bucks and learned that nachos were 7 bucks! Burgers for 6? WATER at 4? Jesus, what are they thinking? And not allowing you to bring your own food and water proves they just want your entire paycheck. Oh, don’t think I have mentioned this yet, but I hate beer; it’s one of the most disgusting drinks I’ve ever come across. How anyone can drink bitter lemon juice is beyond me; but, for the sake of completion, beer was $11. I could have bought 5 times as much with the same money! And they were also selling Dominoes personal pan pizzas for $11; you could buy them for $5 if you went yourself.

First band that played was alright; never heard of them before though, so I can’t remember their name. The second band, Drowning Pool, was good; but I’ve heard their songs so much I was bored. When the third band came out, Theory of a DeadMan, I was enjoying it. Their music is more my kind, but everyone around me were pretty much booing them! Show some fucking respect to the guys at least. If you would rather listen to metal than rock then shut up and go somewhere else til Godsmack came on.

Speaking of which, when Godsmack came on, the stands were packed. It’s like everyone waited til the end of the concert to show up because they hated the other bands. Not that I mind, you can do whatever you want, but to see the stands go from half full to packed out the ass was an interesting sight. I didn’t know who Godsmack was really; I mean, I listen to their songs all the time but I didn’t know how they acted on stage. They really put on a show.

And finally, Motley Crue. Fuck Motley Crue. I’ve heard of them and figured they were a really good band from the 80’s but then they fucking sang. DEAR GOD THE SINGING! Why must the singer sound like he cut off his own balls? I had to get the fuck outta there before my ears bled. If they had a different singer, I might have been more impressed but maybe that’s part of the thrill from back in the 80’s. They can also put on a show, but it seems like they were trying to blind their audience too (every 5 seconds the floodlights would flicker towards us). Their bass was insane; even from the back end of the stands, I could feel the bass throughout my body. Right before I couldn’t stand it anymore and walked out, I was listening to the guitar. The guy can play a guitar, but during the intermissions when they were setting things up for the next set, it sounded like he was trying to break the strings (there was pretty well to no harmony at all).

Even with all the bands I didn’t once stand up and dance around. I hate the idea of dancing in public; I look like an idiot but everyone else does too so that doesn’t seem to be a problem. Mainly, I’m just too self conscious to enjoy a concert. Oh yeah, and I gave the singer of Motley Crue a nickname, Rat Boy; he sounds like a fucking rat in a cartoon show.

Because I hate high pitched singing

We had the pleasure of hooking up their backstage lounge and rocked it to it’s full potential. After an exhilarating concert festival, the backstage lounge was comfy cozy for fans and bands to relax from all the heavy metal angst. This year’s fest performers along with Motley Crue were Godsmack, Theory of a Deadman, Drowning Pool, and Charm City Devils.

Since my early days of buying music (cassettes & LPs), one of favourite treats, was always findi

Since my early days of buying music (cassettes & LPs), one of favourite treats, was always finding a soundtrack of movies I loved.

Of course, nowadays, soundtracks are a dime a dozen, and everyone tries to cash in on it as part of the merchandising.

And I, like any good consumer sheep, oblige by buying every soundtrack I come across…shamelessly, even before seeing the movie or knowing what’s on the album.

Which means… I own a helluva lotta cr@p.
That being said… I own a truckload of cool stuff too. Which brings me to the reason for this blog.

I’ve always had a general idea of my 50 favourite movie soundtracks…but I’ve never actually taken to time to put that list to paper (MS word counts right?).

So now, I proudly bring to you my countdown of my Top 50 soundtracks. (The only rule to my list is I have to actually own the album, so if there may be the occasional title not on this list).

But why have a Top 50….when we can do a Top 60! (yes, there were 10 others I just had to include).

60. Airheads

My mom bought me this album straight after we saw the movie because I loved the it so much…I didn’t realize it would give me a taste for the heavier stuff.
Fave Tracks: “Born To Raise Hell”- Ice T, Whitfield Crane & Lemmy, and “Feed The Gods” – White Zombie

59. Coyote Ugly

This would be higher up on my list if it didn’t become so commercial. A fun movie, with a fun soundtrack. Simple equation really.
Fave Track: “Unbelievable” EMF (laugh and I’ll smack you….or at least hire someone to)

58. Disturbing Behavior

Picked this up when I was in New York, oh so many years ago…during the rebirth of Teen horror movies. Great tracklist!
Fave Tracks: “Monsterside” – Addict, “Got You Where I Want You” – The Flys, “Every Little Thing Counts” – Janus Stark

57. Daredevil

Another album that should have been higher – if certain songs didn’t fall victim to the dreaded overexposure curse. Huge modern rock selection.
Fave Tracks: “The Man Without Fear” – Drowning Pool with Rob Zombie….and yes…the Evanescence tracks.

56. The Faculty

The first of many entries from Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino. A moody effective rock album that suits the movie to a T.
Fave Tracks: “Resuscitation” – Sheryl Crow, “Maybe Someday” – Flick, “Medication” – Garbage

55. Blue Crush

There is just a coolness about this movie and the music. Almost every track takes me away an puts me in chilled little spot away from the world.
Fave Tracks: Nikka Costa – “Everybody Got Their something” & the song that introduced me to Zero 7 – “Destiny”

54. Batman Forever

Forget about the up and down spiral of the Batman movies of the 90s, they sure did produce some awesome soundtracks.
Fave Tracks: “Kiss From a Rose” – Seal (admit it you liked it too), “One Time Too Many” – PJ Harvey & “Hold me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me” – U2.

53. Angus

Man this is a movie that needs to be on DVD. Angus gave fat kids everyone hope of scoring the girl.
Fave Tracks: “JAR” – Green Day, “Jack Names The Planets” – Ash, “Am I Wrong” – Love Split Love

52. Blaze of Glory (Young Guns II) Bon Jovi

Sure, its basically a Bon Jovi album, but come on….how perfect does the music work in the movie? I could listen to this all day because it reminds of scenes in the movie.
I like most of these songs individually, but for some reason the running order on this album annoys me, and that’s the only reason its not higher up.
Fave Tracks: “Secret Garden” – Bruce Springsteen, “World on a String” – Neil Young

That my first 10!
Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon….

So, thanks to the magic of Twitter, I know times and the exact chronological order of when things happened last night, which is always fantastic when re-capping such concerts. Here are some highlights of the night, with pictures and video.

The first band was Charm City Devils.

Stef, Alyssa, and I:

Drowning Pool came after that.

“Let the bodies hit the floor!”

Theory of a Dead Man was the next band.

Then I met the band Cavo thanks to Nate, and we talked to them and got posters.

I got a free Monster there at the Monster tent, and they wouldn’t let me leave the tent with it. So I chugged the thing, because they started counting me off. I drank the entire Monster in ten seconds and everyone was amazed.

Godsmack went on next. Their strobes were off for one part of a song, which I noticed, but I’m sure nobody else did.

At this point, we snuck up closer (from lawn to the seats).

All we had to do was wait until the guy was distracted and go through a small opening between the gate and the pillar thing. We got through and it was fantastic. We watched as all these adults tried to do it and get caught, and several of them walked around once they got in checking over their shoulders and being extremely obvious. And one guy got in a fight with the female security guard.

Then, Godsmack played Voodoo. It was a good time for us to be closer.

“I’m not the one who’s so far away when I feel the snake bite enter my veins!”

The drummers did an insane drum battle. It was intense. Several times they threw their sticks up at least 20 feet in the air, caught them, and kept playing. It was fantastic.

“Which one of you guys gave me a fucking hotel room key?” – Sully Erna

Sound-check began for Mötley Crüe.

For some reason, the guitarist played a few seconds of The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

So Mötley Crüe was awesome. They opened with Dr. Feelgood:

They played Rattlesnake Shake, which was odd. There were dancing strippers on stage, of course.

Kickstart My Heart was awesome. It is one of those songs that belongs in a stadium, played loud, with the crowd screaming the, “Ohhh, yeahhh! Kickstart my heart, give it a start, ohhhh yeahhhh babaaayyy!”

Between songs:

“What’s up bitches? Helllll yess!” – Tommy Lee

All of the guitars, front and center:

We left a bit early to make sure we could actually get out, but it was fantastic.
