<p>Increasing demand for power is forcing power utilities to load power cables to their physical limit, and safety and efficiency concerns are making it more and more critical for operators to understand what is happening thermally both inside the cables themselves, and along the cable route.</p>
<p><strong>Real Time Determination of Thermal Conditions along HV Power Cable Systems</strong><br />
During high-load conditions and under emergency circumstances (such as when a failure occurs in a segment of the grid and power must be shifted to other sections to compensate) it often becomes necessary to load cables right up to the limits permitted by the relevant regulations. In these operational situations, it must be ensured that maximum temperature limits are not exceeded. Due to the increasing complexity of the thermal relationships along cable routes, the ability to continuously measure the temperatures along the cable has proven invaluable, providing critical operational data to engineers, especially in the case of a system faults such as a hot spots that could result in cable failure if they are not corrected.</p>
<p>The intrinsic<a title="DTS" href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+OTS+Evaluation+Unit"> temperature measuring system DTS </a>based on LIOS Technology’s design, with fibre optic sensors either installed within the power cable’s cross section (FIMT &#8211; Fibre in metal tube ) or attached to the exterior of the cable, makes it possible to record the temperature profile along an entire cable route continuously, and to pinpoint the exact location of hot spots within a metre. Since the measuring principle employed is purely optical, the presence of electromagnetic influences, which can result in false sensor signals in other technologies, does not affect the DTS unit.</p>
<p>Distributed temperature sensing is a powerful tool that allows the accurate rating of high voltage power cables in real time, and provides the following operating benefits:</p>
<ul>
<li>Reduce power outages or blackouts</li>
<li>Ensure continuity of supply</li>
<li>Activate hidden capacity reserves of existing assets</li>
<li>React quickly to overload conditions</li>
<li>Conduct precisely and in real-time load predictions as new sources of energy are added to the grid</li>
</ul>
<p>The temperature profile data, in any desired form or format, can be transmitted via standard interfaces from systems of the OTS product series as required, and be either displayed or further processed by PC, PLC or SCADA systems. As a result of the increasing demands placed on the ability to network and integrate measuring systems into management systems, LIOS offers network components that summarise DTS data from several DTS units and transport or convert it to the required network standards and protocols like <a title="Seamless data integration" href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+Network+Capabilities+and+SCADA+Interfaces" target="_blank">Modbus, DNP3, IEC60870-5 or XML </a>based data interfaces.</p>
<p><strong>Dynamic Cable Rating</strong><br />
LIOS also provides an integrated<a title="Dynamic Cable Rating" href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+Real+Time+Thermal+Rating+%28RTTR%29+-+Dynamic+Cable+Rating" target="_blank"> Real Time Thermal Rating (RTTR)</a> package via a well defined interface between its DTS data visualisation software and a commercialised – the industry’s de facto standard &#8211; cable ampacity program based on IEC standardised methods (mainly IEC 60287 and IEC 60853). Dynamic rating software couples the accurate temperature data provided by the DTS unit to predictive functions of cable ratings, providing engineers with even more information upon which they can base distribution and load decisions. The result is dramatically more efficient transmission of power, fewer “brown-outs”, and decreased operating costs.</p>

<p>Recientemente se han realizado pruebas de laboratorio con una combinación de bases de datos Microsoft SQL Server con mucha y poca carga de trabajo sobre máquinas virtuales en un cluster VMware vSphere con cuatro hosts VMware vSphere. El uso de DRS dio como resultado un 47% más de transacción de bases de datos agregadas comparados con un entorno sin máquinas virtuales con balanceo de carga. Los resultados demuestran de forma convincente que el balanceo dinámico de carga entre máquinas virtuales es un requisito indispensable, no solo para conseguir la mejor utilización del hardware a través de un ratio de consolidación mayor, sino también para la virtualización de aplicaciones de negocio críticas.</p>
<p>“Estas pruebas demuestran cómo optimiza VMware DRS la eficiencia al tiempo que proporciona niveles de rendimiento garantizados. <p>Cuando los clients consolidan servidores en menos hosts físicos y se produce un pico de demanda inesperado de los recursos de las máquinas virtuales, las peticiones totales de recursos pueden exceder los recursos disponibles en un host. VMware DRS proporciona un mecanismo automático que recoloca las máquinas virtuales en hosts en los que los recursos están disponibles balanceando continuamente la capacidad y asegurando que cada máquina virtual tiene acceso a los recursos apropiados en cualquier momento. VMware DRS toma las mejores decisiones en tiempo real, lo que lo hace más eficaz que cualquier mecanismo manual o dependiente de un administrador.</p>
<p>La mayoría de los clientes de VMware utilizan DRS y esto les ha dado aumentos considerables en sus ratios de consolidación por encima de los ratios típicos de consolidación que obtuvieron en un principio virtualizando sin DRS; esto ha dado como resultado mayores reducciones en los costes operativos y de capital de sus centros de datos.</p>

<p>Dennoch sollen auch diejenigen, die bereits eine IV-Rente beziehen, in Zukunft auf den Arbeitsmarkt zurückkehren.</p>
<p>Die IV Solothurn probt bereits die für die 6. IV-Revision vorgesehene &#8220;Eingliederung aus Rente&#8221; &#8211; mit eher bescheidenem Erfolg bisher. Bei vielen IV-Rentnern ist Angst ein zentrales und der Eingliederung im Wege stehendes Thema. Angst, den Belastungen im Arbeitsleben nicht gewachsen zu sein, erneut überfordert und überlastet zu werden &#8211; Angst, ihre Rente zu verlieren<em>.<br />

<p><span style="font-family:Times New Roman, Times, serif;font-size:x-small;">Il Salone Aeronautico di Dubai è una manifestazione che si tiene ogni due anni negli Emirati Arabi Uniti, è promossa dal Governo dell’Emirato in collaborazione con il Dipartimento dell’Aviazione Civile, l’aeroporto internazionale di Dubai e le Forze armate.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.aerospaziocampania.it/"><img src="http://www.aerospaziocampania.it/images/Dubai-2009.jpg" border="0" alt="" width="434" height="64" /></a><span style="font-family:Times New Roman, Times, serif;font-size:x-small;"> L’edizione 2009 del Salone è prevista dal prossimo 15 al 19 novembre all’Airport Expo di Dubai e molte le aziende italiane del settore che parteciperanno all&#8217;evento con stand o chalet .<br />
Per la prima volta sarà presente la Regione Campania che ha previsto la partecipazione ad AirShow tra le attività promozionali finanziate con la delibera regionale 1373 del 6 agosto.<br />

The DTS measures the real time temperature at the sheath or jacket of a cable. The sheath temperature gives a good idea of the temperature of conductor, but unless an accurate model for the conductor is provided there will be some uncertainly left.   		The uncertainty is small during steady state operation, but it could be (very) large during an emergency situation. The following figure illustrates the temperature of the jacket and conductor during an emergency situation.</p>

<p>One can appreciate that while the temperature difference between the jacket and the conductor can be small in steady state. However, moments after the onset of an emergency situation the temperature difference could be very large. The reason is that cable insulation has a large inertia and therefore the heating of the conductor can only be detected at the jacket several minutes (to hours) later. Additionally, the temperature difference changes with the loading level. The temperature difference is larger for larger loading levels.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Now all these medical errors in America don&#8217;t get talked about or made into as much of a big deal because we don&#8217;t want to look bad. Tarnish our sparkly stethoscopes or get dirt on our pretty white coats. Truthfully injustices like that occur on a daily basis and in vast quantities all over America.</p>
<p>So why are we Americans so eager to jump all over mistakes made in other countries with National Health Care?  Well because we want to make them look bad, to insult their systems, their education and their medical professionals. The truth is we are no better than they are and the scariest thing about National Health Care is the fact that it will eliminate so much of the greedy, dirty, disgusting profit that America whores itself out for.</p>
<p>Why? you might ask&#8230;</p>
<p>Well let&#8217;s start at the beginning, in America the majority of all doctors become doctors for the paycheck. It all leads back to that greed America fosters so lovingly, we push people to believe money is the answer and in America&#8230;money is the only thing that will take you anywhere.</p>
<p>So here we have our young med students, maybe a small percent are interested in actually helping but the rest are all in it for the money. That big, beautiful paycheck they adore so much.</p>
<p>I myself do NOT want a doctor working on me that is only in it for the money, American doctors are severely over paid and far less helpful than they would like to think. Do they honestly believe their services are truly worth the cost? Come on&#8230;they charge an arm and a leg because they CAN&#8230;</p>
<p>Because WE -let- them! and sadly they will just turn around and offer to stitch those arms and legs back on for further profit. Do we really want doctors working on us that don&#8217;t care?  Let&#8217;s be honest greed is now virtually bred into American blood, we promote the most pathetic, close minded and ignorant values.</p>
<p>With the idea that money is the most important, in a life where happiness, kindness, health and all others fall short in comparison. So ask yourselves if you want these doctors working on you? They don&#8217;t get into health care because they want to help or heal, they do it for the money and most of the ones that really want to care and cure are unable to do so because tuition costs are too high.</p>
<p>Also keep in mind when thinking about medical errors and going to the hospital, how many of these doctors just barely made the grade? How many only did the minimum just to get by and get one step closer to their goal, the paycheck. Always remember that almost failing&#8230;is still passing.</p>
<p>Beyond that there is the possibility of many other things, if they don&#8217;t truly care about learning then cheating doesn&#8217;t seem so wrong. It disgusts me how any American can talk trash about another countries health care when we rank so low on that scale ourselves.</p>
<p>How low? Well America will never really let you know, but I promise it&#8217;s much worse than you think. Things you&#8217;d never even imagine, happen right here at home but we high and mighty, holier than thou Americans are quick to point fingers and throw insults.</p>
<p>Welcome to America&#8230;</p>
<p>Land of the fear and home of the greed.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>To continue on with my earlier discussion of medical errors in America&#8230; and these are all just personal accounts of things that have happened with me and my family.</p>
<p>When I was four years old I had horrible stomach pain that was assumed to be the flu for three days until further examination revealed my appendix was about to rupture. The doctors preformed an immediate removal of my appendix and somehow managed to screw up one of the most basic operations around&#8230;right along side of removing ones tonsils.</p>
<p>I am uncertain what it was they did wrong but they insisted the surgery must be redone and went back in, yes they opened me up in the same spot for a second time. Then shortly following that I developed a severe infection from the second operation which required them to open me up in the exact same spot for a third time because they didn&#8217;t know how to do their jobs.</p>
<p>As a result I had serious scarring that still to this day causes abdominal pain and tightness. Not to mention one of the ugliest scars you could possibly get from an operation as basic as having ones appendix removed.</p>
<p>Again when I was four years old, I fell out a second story window in an apartment building&#8230;onto asphalt while being babysat by my oldest sister. I was in the hospital for over 24 hours and got a visit from my Aunt who happened to notice I was limp wristed and unable to feed myself. She immediately insisted they X-ray my wrist and sure enough it was broken. Something the doctors clearly couldn&#8217;t figure out on their own.</p>
<p>Again when I was 17 I started having really bad dizzy spells that kept me in bed for as much as a week at a time and that went on for approximately one year before I went to see the doctor. After much evaluation the doctors presumed I must have a brain tumor and would soon be dying&#8230;they made that diagnosis without any proof or imagery of my brain to show any such growth.</p>
<p>They offered me a cat scan but informed me that even under my parents insurance that would cost around $900 to do the cat scan. Yet at 22 years old, here I still am and I never got that cat scan because I couldn&#8217;t afford $900 out of pocket!</p>
<p>Overall my point is that medical errors and mistakes are a naturally occurring event in all countries, under any circumstance and in every medical system. DO NOT blame National Health Care for things like that, you have to see that it happens everywhere. That is just yet another poor excuse and half baked, fraudulant reason to not want National Health Care.</p>

<title><![CDATA[C.A.R.E. Citizens Against Restricted Enlightenment]]></title>

<p>Today I had the challenge of trying to reach the local County Health Department, I called three times and failed to get an answer.  Are we under staffed? Perhaps they could hire me, I&#8217;ll gladly help them manage to serve their purpose since they cannot do so on their own.</p>
<p>My goal of calling them was to see about local medical programs and assistance in medical care, however I was unable to find anything out due to their lack of being able to assist me!</p>
<p>Which brings me to todays subject&#8230;. C.A.R.E.</p>
<p>Citizens Against Restricted Enlightenment or as I like to call these citizens&#8230; the ones who actually care! When you think about it, if everyone cared, if everyone tried&#8230;we might actually be able to accomplish something. If you set aside the rich, the well off, the wealthy, big business people, the government employees and those that work for or back insurance companies&#8230;we are still the majority!</p>
<p>If only we could get the unwell, the unemployed, the uninsured and the various others in similar circumstances or situations&#8230;all together, we could stand and make a change. Fight for what&#8217;s right and force America to change. We have the right to proper, free and unlimited health care whenever we require it, all we have to do make America provide that for us.</p>
<p>Other countries like Canada and The U.K. and Europe, as well as even Cuba have detailed cheat sheets that we could easily draw from. America wants us to dislike these countries, to fear &#8220;socialized health care&#8221; and to reject these alternatives but the fact of the matter is they are ahead of us.</p>
<p>I was reading elsewhere and came across someone dissing National Health Care because of a misdiagnosis and grave medical error made in The U.K. but what they fail to mention is that things like that happen in America EVERY day! Medical error and misdiagnosis can happen anywhere, under any circumstances regardless of country or health care system.</p>
<p>A few brief examples would for instance&#8230;my nephew who as a baby was cross eyed, they preformed an operation to uncross his left eye with the claims that if the surgery wasn&#8217;t done he would go blind in that eye. They said the surgery was very safe and the chances of anything going wrong was 1 in 10,000 and insisted this was the best thing to do.</p>
<p>So my sister went through with letting them do the operation and guess what? Something went wrong, the Dr. preforming the surgery was not trained to do this operation and did it anyways, he left a small incision on my nephews eye and that allowed bacteria to get inside his eye and caused a serious infection. When his eye was turning red and watering my sister took him to the hospital because she was worried it was infected but the Drs. on call insisted he was fine and sent him home.</p>
<p>Mind you this is a baby less than one year old, anyway they took him in again the next day and the hospital finally admitted something was wrong, they gave my sister this cream and instructed her to put it in his eye twice a day, which she did religiously knowing how important it was. Despite the fact that this baby screamed and cried every single time, it was torture.</p>
<p>In the end the eye could not be saved and he is now permanantly blind in his left eye. The Dr, who was trained and should&#8217;ve preformed the surgery was out of town on conferance for the week and the hospital went ahead and had someone else preform this surgery knowing that this Dr. was not the one who should be doing it.</p>
<p>This baby is now 4 yrs. old and faces a life of operations and will require a glass eye as his left eye ceased growing, it is in essance dead. My sister struggled for over a year with lawyers in hopes of filing a malpractice suit but as every lawyer she spoke to told her&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;It is nearly impossible to sue a doctor.&#8221;</p>
<p>And that being so&#8230;she was unable to seek retribution for her child that they forever scarred.  This is just one case out of more than a dozen that I know personally within my family alone that occurred at various hospitals throughout the state.</p>
<p>In short&#8230;American Drs. screw up too and it has nothing to do with National Health Care so please don&#8217;t ever blame misdiagnosis or medical error on the fact that a country has National Health Care.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Sportlounge – Live fast, die young!]]></title>

<p><span style="color:#888888;"><span style="font-size:small;">Denke ich an meine unendliche Fernsehsportlaufbahn zurück, reiht sich Höllenbild an Höllenbild (ich meine damit nicht den Moment, als ich – gefühlsmässig geschätzt – im November 1884 (richtig gelesen, achtzehnhundertxy) Matthias Hüppi zum ersten Mal erblickt habe. Eine meiner frühesten und prägendsten Jugenderinnerungen sind die Formel1-Rennen, die mein Vater jeweils mit einem Auge (das andere schlief) an sich vorbeiziehen liess. Schon noch krass, wenn ein Kind den total verbrannten Niki Lauda in seinem verkohlten Ferrari brennen sieht (den Helm, weiss ich noch ganz genau, hatte es ihm von der Birne gepfeffert). Einige Jahre später, im WM-Jahr 1982, führte ein Missverständnis zwischen Jochen Mass und Gilles Villeneuve zum Tod des Kanadiers. Das SF, damals noch Schweizer Fernsehen DRS und dem Service Public von Bundesrat Schlumpf verpflichtet, zeigte, moderiert von Heinz Pütz, sechsmal in Super-Slomo wie Villeneuve mit Tempo 200 aus seinem Wrack gerissen und an einen Zaun geschleudert wurde. Im selben Jahr übrigens stiess – unglücklicher- und unbeabsichtigterweise – ein deutscher Fechter im bieder-bigotten Tauberbischoffsheim dem Sowjetrussen Vladimir Smirnov (der hiess tatsächlich so) den abgebrochenen Degen durch die Maske, durch das Auge, direkt in den Schädel. Voll dabei beim Spiel mit den Waffen: SF (genau, damals noch DRS geheissen). Übrigens immer dabei wenn Blut im Spiel ist: Das SF. Zum Beispiel als dem unglücklichen Gernot Reinstadler das Fangnetz im Zielsprung der Lauberhornabfahrt das Becken bis zum Bauchnabel zerriss und er eine körperbreite, drei Meter lange Blutstpur hinter sich herzog. Er starb noch auf der Piste. Ebenso Ulrike «Ulli» Maier beim Sturz in der Kandahar-Abfahrt (Genickbruch). A propos Genickbruch: Dank dem Schweizer Fernsehen habe ich allein zwei Genickbrüche geschätzte zwanzig Mal gesehen (immer in Super Slomo; Ulli Maier und Ayrton Senna). Und schliesslich, um diese unvollständige Liste zu beenden, Fabio Casartelli, der tödlich verunglückte Radprofi nach einem fürchterlichen Sturz in der Abfahrt vom Col d&#8217;Aspet.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;"><span style="font-size:small;">Wer die Schönheit angeschaut mit Augen, ist bekanntlich schon dem Tod anheim gegeben. Ob es die Schönheit ist, können wir nicht sagen, aber auch wir schauen in der Woche gewiss einmal dem Tod in seine kalten, schönen Augen: Auf der Strasse, mit dem Rennrad, Höllentempo, diffusses Licht, LKW, BMW X5, 14er Tram, dick vermummte Frauen mit Röhrenblick auf dem Zebrastreifen. Und wenn wir dann endlich in unserer trauten Höhle zur fleischgewordenen Krimhilde in die Sportlounge schalten, heisst das Thema in den vergangenen Wochen jeweils: «&#8230;aber ist das nicht gefährlich?» Spannend, nicht?</span></span></p>

<p><span style="color:#888888;"><span style="font-size:small;">Ueli Gegenschatz, Basejumper, hatte ein so krasses Leuchten in seinen schmalen Augen wie sonst nur Franco Nero in seinen besten Filmen. Und Marco «Büx» Büchel, ein Mann mit Schnauz (ich meine mit S C H N A U Z), brettert seit so vielen Jahren vereiste Steilhänge herunter, dass wir schon längst alle Amalgam-Plomben verschluckt hätten. Nach der gestrigen Sendung, nach dieser geballten Ladung an Propaganda, da spüren wir tief, tief in unseren männlichen Eingeweiden (EINgeweiden, Dude!) das Verlangen nach einem Basejump, der es wirklich in sich hat, voll mit Endorphin, Adrenalin und was da sonst noch alles so fliessen kann. Da kann </span></span><span style="color:#888888;"><span style="font-size:small;">Marc Siegenthaler, Fallschirmspringer und Präsident Skydive Schweiz noch lange fragen: </span></span><span style="color:#888888;"><span style="font-size:small;">«Was mach dr Otto Normauverbucher met däm?» (fragt ein Fallschirmspringer, der sich aus einem Flugezug in 5 Kilometern Höhe stürzt!)</span></span></p>
