Taken from 1995 LP “Timeless”

Timeless is the 1995 debut album from Goldie, a groundbreaking release which is still often nominated as the finest album ever in the history of drum and bass music. 

Goldie was joined in the studio by engineer/producer Rob Playford (aka Timecode), founder of the renowned Moving Shadow label, who did most of the programming and production (with Goldie generating the musical ideas, rhythms and arrangements). Additional engineering and production came from Dego and Marc Mac of 4hero. Diane Charlemagne contributed the bulk of the vocals.

The album blended the complex, chopped and layered breakbeats and deep basslines of jungle and drum and bass with expansive, symphonic strings and atmospherics, and female vocals, creating a crossover hit. Released on Pete Tongs FFRR label, the album reached #7 in the charts, and few consider it bettered by his subsequent releases.

Sea of Tears uses a sample taken from Brian Eno and David Byrne’s – Mountain of Needles, on the excellent LP “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts”.

Alex Reece, has clearly brought his House music influences and its obvious connections with Ibiza into this tune, with bouncy two-stepping beats and a catchy synth riff – simple but very, very effective, especially at the breakdown, midway, with just the riff playing. Sounds best when played on a hot summers day with the car windows down while cruising along the motorway

1996 was a great year for Drum & Bass and this laid back monster and “Pulp Fiction” were on constant rotation!

Still one of the best and most soulful “Intelligent DnB” tracks released by the master, Bukem. Still remember this being dropped on a Leics pirate radio station while I was in my car. Blew my socks off.

Uncredited female vocal sample in ‘Horizons’ is Maya Angelou reading from her poem ‘On The Pulse Of Morning’, at the inauguration of former US President Bill Clinton (01/1993).

This was released in 1995, epitomising that “intelligent Drum n Bass” sound of the time: lush melodies and trancey moods, underpinned by breakbeat rhythms. However, rewind a year earlier to 1994 and take a listen to “Sunflash”, the first track on Lemon Sol’s album “Environmental Architecture”. You’ll very likely spot a not-insignificant resemblance to those sweeping, lush melody structures on “Horizons”; as in: they’re exactly the same!

The original is a floaty bouncy Balearic DnB number, nice and middle of the road, a warm comforting bit of mass appeal Drum & Bass. Then Andy C & Ant Miles as Origin Unknown get their hands on it and corrupts it into a bassline beast of epic break proportions – while Dillinja’s remix gets more airtime for being bang out filthy, I think Unknown’s subtle restraint preserves some of the original laidback moments with enough rolling to keep the bassheads happy. Love it!

Andy C and Ant Miles return for their take on “When the sun goes down” in their Origin Unknown guise…and it is suitably grimy. Deep bass, pounding drums…it’s impossible not to move to this song.
Commix’s version is very smooth & funky…nice atmosphere, good beats…

Freakuency radio http://freakuencyradio.wordpress.com starts functioning this Saturday with one radio show including music selected by spacenowhere most probably known here as fancypunk , from the 90er drum n bass/jungle scene especially UK stuff and contemporary dubstep holly shit from the 00s. My idea for this radio show is based on a diversity of possibilities and ideas always from according the dnb , dubstep concepts , always trying to present something new.  Even though I made radio years before , experience is missing so every suggestion before or after the show is welcome. Please mail me at space.nowhere at gmail.com . My purpose for this show is to make it as much useful as possible. So the plan for the show is   the first part /hour a glimpse on oldschool drum n bass mix and the second one , dubstep stuff probably trying to satisfy all? “how is this possible?”

so the exactly the plan for the show: starts 16.00 London , 17.00 Berlin , 18.00 Athens   and will end two hours later.

Welcome back folks, with another installment in our lovely little ‘History of Hospital Mix’ series.

This next one is personally, one of my all time favorites. Mixed by London Elektricity, this time they’re back with another set of sultry smooth liquid hits that’ll leave you begging for more. That is after all the point of these, right? Bring you back for more!

Let me tell you. These are some heavy hitters on this one.
All the kings from the 06-07 era with some of the most monstrous of tunes. With Logistics banger “SpaceJam” and High Contrast’s “Everything’s Different”, you can’t go wrong. Without further adieu, I bring you Hospital Mix Five.
