Just for 3 to 4 people

INGREDIENTS:

• 6 chicken drum sticks
• 1/2 cup yogurt
• Salt and pepper/chilli powder 
• 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
• 2-4 tablespoons tandoori masala powder
• 1 tbsp cumin powder 
• 1 tbsp coriander powder 
• 2 tbsp vinegar
• 4 to 6 tbsp Olive oil
• 2 eggs
• Cilantro leaves

PROCESS:

Wash Chicken with turmeric powder and then marinate chicken drum sticks with yogurt, turmeric powder, cumin powder and coriander powder according to your spice level.  Leave it to marinate for about 2 hour room temperature. In another bowl combine flour, white part of egg, vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. Make incisions withe the fork  before applying coating. Take  a brush and apply the flour paste on chicken drum sticks and sprinkle chicken tandooru masala powder. Heat the oven around 350 degree temperature , coat the pan with olive oil and arrange the drum sticks on the pan. Turn once after about 15 minutes. Broil until fully cooked and nicely browned, about 30 to 40 minutes total. Note that some pieces may cook faster than others. Remove the pieces that are done and continue to cook the rest until cooked through. Transfer fried drum sticks into bowl and serve with coriander on top and onions on side.

Nachdem ich das Wiesel stets auf später vertröstet hatte, musste ich heute doch wohl oder übel mein Versprechen einlösen, und das Wiesel an mein DrumSet ranlassen. Dort zeigte es sich erstmal als äusserst wählerisch, als es minutenlang zwischen den schwarzen und den rot-blauen Drumsticks werweiste. Letztendlich – und nach gutem Zureden meinerseits – entschied es sich für die rotblauen Sticks, mit denen es das Schlagzeug und mein Trommelfell unsicher machte.

Nach einigen gescheiterten Versuchen, einen einfachen Grundbeat hinzukriegen, erklärte ich es ihm. Das Wiesel sass danach – man staune – eine geschlagene Dreiviertelstunde am Drumset. Leider schien es den “Repeat”-Hebel drin zu haben, denn es wiederholte den Beat laufend. Ich begann meine Entscheidung zu bedauern. Schliesslich war das Wiesel aber überglücklich und geschafft und das – wenn auch eher ersteres als letzteres – war ja mein Ziel.

This is the story of Monster & Little Monster.  After seeing him at Target a few times and almost bringing him home, Monster finally became a part of my family on September 21, 2008.  He made his home in Big Papi’s cup holder. 

One of his favorite things to do is say, “look what I can do” as he pushes his eyeballs close to each other.

For Halloween, he carried around a Batman mask from a Dark Knight action figure.  You can barely see it here.

Monster’s first concert was December 21 when he saw Matisyahu.

Soon after this, Little Monster joined the family.

Hello grubs,

Time to talk a little about drum sticks.  I’ve been drummer for a while now, and there never seems to be an end to the amount of drum sticks available today.  Every drum manufacturer makes their own sticks, but there are the few “stick” companies that make them their focus.  Zildjian makes sticks which are ridiculously over priced.  An average pair from them costs around $12 CAN which is just silly.  It’s wood people….not gold!

There are many companies that claim their sticks make you a better player, which is another hilarious statement.  Companies like Pro-Mark and Regal Tip quote themselves as being “the players choice”.  Too funny!  Mostly these companies are busy picking really expensive woods like Japanese white oak, and getting fancy endorsers to make you want them.  Not much on the better playing side I’m afraid.

My favorite companies right now are Vic Firth, Vater and Los Cabos.  These are all good manufacturers that really focus on the player, and variety.  The standard woods for making sticks are Maple and Hickory.  There are a lot of wood varieties out there, but this is what the lion’s share are made from.  I have played many sizes from these manufacturers, and they’re all good.  Los Cabos is the least expensive, then Vic Firth and Vater are pretty comparable.  I have recently tried Los Cabos Maple 5A and Hickory 5A and 5A Intense.  Great sticks!  At $7.50 a pair they won’t send you to the poor house either!  And hey, they’re Canadian made…damn right!

Paying a ton of money for wood sticks is ridiculous.  I have found that any brand made of Hickory break around the same time across the board.  I think I’m a medium weight hitter, so perhaps if you are a shaved-ape who throws their back into every hit, you may break them earlier, but crap man, go buy Ahead aluminum sticks and get it over with!  Have fun replacing your cymbals and heads every other week though!.

Try a lot of sizes and brands before locking into one of those high-priced dealio’s.  Your pocket book will thank you later……..

Whether you’re a budding songwriter, an instrumentalist or a producer. Its important to understand exactly what your fellow band members are doing as you all try to knock out your own sound.

For the budding new drummers out there, current students of the drum or any musician that just wants to understand how one of the main supporting players in a working and performing band actually does there job, holding there own and providing the driver for the rest of the players. What I’m recommending here, is a great method for any aspiring young musicians, to learn to play drums. I’m not suggesting the everyone switches their main instrument, not unless you Really want to do that. But for those of you for whom drums are the only thing, I’m recommending a package to use with your study.

Standard Drum Sticks Sizes and Their Impact on Drumming

If you try to actually play more quietly using your regular heavier sticks and you’re still too loud, it’s time to bust out the old 7As. The 7A would probably not be the stick to start with because if you get too used to the lightness of them, and if for some reason you have to use a heavier stick, that heavier stick will feel too heavy. And I mean heavy in a bad way.  5A: These sticks are probably the best size to start with. If you start with these, you’ll have room to go heavier or lighter if you want. When a student starts with me and he needs his first pair of sticks, unless he is very young or a very small person, I’ll hook him up with 5As. If you start with these and you want to go heavier, you can always move up in size.

As a matter of fact, this is the size I usually use. 5B: These are the next size up from 5A, obviously. They feel much like a 5A but, you know, heavier. If you want to play in a heavier style while still using drumsticks that don’t feel like you’re swinging two baseball bats, these are worth checking out. 2B: If you want to use sticks that feel like you’re swinging two baseball bats, then go for it. If you’re in a band that’s so loud that you need to use these to be heard, best of luck to you and enjoy your hearing aid in a few years. I understand that sometimes when you’re starting to learn to play drums you can really get into the loudness of the whole thing, and you just want to smash any drum or cymbal you can get near as hard as you can.

I’ve been there. But not only can you damage your hearing, you will dent your drumheads and crack your cymbals much faster if you use a stick that’s too heavy. You can also develop tendonitis if you push too hard with sticks that are too big for you. Tendonitis is a condition that can end your drumming career. Get a medical encyclopedia and look up tendonitis. It’s a bummer. Look up carpal tunnel syndrome too while you have that book out. You could wind up with either of these, or both. 3S: Now you’re just being silly. But seriously, drummers in drum corps usually use 3S sticks.

A drum corps is a group of drummers that you might see in a parade or during the half time show of a football game. (In a drum corps, one person plays the snare drum, one person plays the bass drum, etc.) They use heavier sticks because they use some different drumming techniques than drummers who use the drum set. These sticks usually aren’t used on the drum set unless your goal is to play so loud that you drive everyone out of your life and destroy your drumheads and cymbals. Some people use these extra-heavy sticks when they practice on their drum pad so that later, when they use their regular, lighter sticks, they can really fly around the kit and play much faster than they could otherwise. I don’t necessarily doubt this, but I never really tried it myself. I’m of the opinion that there are no shortcuts to speed in drumming. Speed can be developed on any stick. Feel free to prove me wrong. I’ve been wrong before, but I can’t remember when.

Am facut aceasta fotografie in primavara la Viena in timpul unei demonstratii “Free Tibet” care a fost imediat insotita de o contra-manifestatie a unor persoane cu steaguri ale Chinei, trimisi de ambasada din Viena. Printre cei cu steaguri chineze era un baiat cu nume tibetan. E incredibil sa vezi cum o ideologie iti poate sterge trecutul.
In China viitorul se construieste stergand nume, oameni, aruncand in inchisoare, ridincand constructii oribile fara memorie pe locul templelor, vopsind albastrul nemarginit al cerului intr-un rosu abrutizant. Dincolo de luminile Olimpiadei sta o noapte rosie nesfarsita, doar cu cinci stele, mereu aceleasi (steaua mai mare simbolizeaza partidul iar cele mici poporul…stele mici,din ce in ce mai mici). E important sa stiti ca au murit oameni sa construiasca acele stadioane, ca acea ceremonie de deschidere nu e decat o telenovela si la cativa kilometri de ea sunt oameni in inchisori si oameni traind cu mai putin de un dolar pe zi.
Cenzura in China, la fel ca in Europa, la fel ca oriunde in lume, dar mai ales ca in Statele Unite sau Romania, imbraca forme brutale si absurde. Se filtreza rezultatele cautarilor pe unele motoare de cautare, se blocheaza accesul pe unele domenii, se sterg post-uri de pe blog-uri. Insa nu pot ei sa stearga, cat putem noi sa scriem.
Cand simpla referire la Tibet iti poate aduce privarea de libertate, atunci intoarcerea la traditiile muzicale din acea zona e un act de curaj. Sa Dingding canta o mantra tibetana de 100 de silabe interzisa in China, vajrastva, si de aceea multe din piesele ei au si versiuni in chineza si uneori intr-un limbaj improvizat. E acceptata ca atare si pentru ca foloseste multe din structurile muzicale native ale Chinei, dincolo de muzica pop.

China a fost tot timpul un spatiu multietnic intre mongoli, tibetani, manchu, insa partidul s-a folosit de principiul unitatii in diversitate pentru a-i uni pe toti intr-o alta religie, cu dogme ideologice. “Free Tibet” e un slogan occidental si nimic mai mult, daca se ascunde doar in spatele unui steag. Oameni ca Sa Dingding si Dadawa aduc mai multa profunzime decat stingerea unei torte olimpice. De altfel Dalai Lama nici nu vrea un stat Tibet ci libertate pentru oamenii de acolo, autonomie.
