New Mexico State Police on Friday released some data on its #DWI Drunk Busters program where people are asked to call #-D-W-I when they see a suspected drunk driver on the roads.

According to Lt. Robert McDonald, the program had 1,382 calls from around the state in January leading to 135 traffic stops and 23 DWI arrests. In February, there were 1,421 calls made around the state, 146 traffic stops leading to 30 DWI arrests.

In an email, McDonald said the program “has made a tremendous impact in the arrest of DWI offenders in New Mexico.”

While New Mexico State Police released the data on Friday, any area police agency can get the call from police dispatch and make the traffic stop.
