Shut off Winamp and the temperature dropped 32 degrees in five minutes (a lot faster than before) when using the external fan.

Computer started to get hot (as usual) so I turned on the external fan in order to dissipate some of the heat (built in fan not to efficient)  being generated after about five minutes #0 dropped approximately 15 degrees and #1 about 13 degrees (which is slower than usual). Also have Winamp running so I guess I’ll shut it off and see what happens.

We’ve been providing news on the hottest PC notebook to come out in years as it comes and rather than write a whole bunch of words here, I will just let the specs speak for themselves.

I acquired a shiny new mini-ITX box with an Intel D945GCLF2 the other day to replace an ageing Pentium II box. Installation went smoothly (after some initial messing with what to boot from): I started from a lenny amd64 live CD and debootstrapped from there, making use of dpkg --get-selections and dpkg --set-selections along the way and aptitude to finish the job and mark various packages, mostly library packages, as automatically installed.

/etc, /home and a few other directory trees came from its predecessor, which wasn’t too painful since that was also running lenny. Some light tweaking was done, what with it being a different computer.

(I did consider running a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit userland, which would have meant just copying from the old box’s HD. Obviously easier, but less fun.)

In use

It’s now in service and doing its job well. There are only three issues that I can see at present, both minor:

• I can’t plug in the case’s built-in speaker (one of the usual PC bog-standard beepers). No great loss.
• The custom kernel which I’ve built for it (2.6.27.38) doesn’t seem to shut everything down properly: I checked its power usage with a power meter and found it still using about 20W despite being in standby. I’ve probably missed something silly… again, not a problem, since I’m leaving it on 24/7 anyway.
• Others have reported that the northbridge fan is noisy, but I think that it’s just a little noisier than it might be.

Normal idle power usage is around 41W, about 5W or 6W of which is due to the hard disk. I was slightly surprised to find that the old PII box used 43W when idling – I was expecting more – but then it uses up to 70W under load compared to the new box’s 45W.

(The PII box has one 160GB IDE HD, a CD-ROM drive and one four-port USB2.0 card; the Atom box has one 250GB SATA HD. I’ve not measured without said hardware; suffice it to say that the older HD probably uses a watt or two more.)

If I don’t include this, I’m sure that somebody sooner or later will complain

Kernel build timings weren’t too far off my main desktop box’s timings, at least when using CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=4 fakeroot make-kpkg kernel-image (not that dissimilar to make -j4 deb-pkg): it took almost 11 minutes, which is about 2 minutes slower. (The desktop box has an Athlon 64 3500+.) Without any explicit use of parallel processing, it took about 23½ minutes.

Udite, udite!!! Windows 7 utilizza un solo core del processore per eseguire le istruzioni necessarie al suo caricamento ed è quindi utile se il nostro hardware è un dual o un quad core modificare le impostazioni di sistema per sfruttare tutti i core, velocizzando così il funzionamento del sistema operativo.

Naturalmente non riusciamo a capire come mai il nuovo giocattolo della Microsoft non lo faccia autonomamente, riconoscendo in fase di installazione la tipologia di  processore che monta il pc. Forse per non smentirsi!

Comunque  porre rimedio è piuttosto facile: da “Start/Tutti i programmi/Accessori/Esegui” digitate msconfig e, nella schermata che appare, portatevi nella scheda “Opzioni di avvio“.

A questo punto, occorre clikkare su “Opzioni avanzate“, spuntare la casella “Numero di processori” e, nel menù a tendina, selezionare il numero di processori da utilizzare per aumentare la velocità del vostro Windows 7.

Prosesor keluarga TILE-Gx ini terdiri dari empat jenis yakni prosesor dengan 16 core, 36 core, 64 core, dan 100 core. Prosesor-prosesor ini diklaim paling bertenaga saat ini di antara prosesor multicore di PC karena secara umum kinerja sebuah prosesor berbanding lurus dengan jumlah core-nya.

Tilera juga mengklaim TILE-Gx memiliki nilai kinerja per watt hingga sepuluh kali lipat kemampuan chip Intel generasi mendatang Westmere. Desain prosesor Tilera dikembangkan berdasarkan teknologi Multicore Development Environment berbasis interkoneksi Imesh dua dimensi yang meniadakan kebutuhan on-chip bus dan teknologi Dynamic Distributed Cache System yang memungkinkan setiap cache lokal di setiap core dapat dibagi dengan seluruh core.

Meski dirancang Tilera, TILE-Gx dibuat dengan teknologi proses 40 nanometer TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturign Company). Prosesor ini bekerja pada 1.5 GHz dengan konsumsi daya antara 10-55 watt. Harganya sendiri masih belum diumumkan dan prosesor ini direncanakan rilis kuartal keempat 2010.


My dad complained about his PC speed that come sooo slow, so I guess I have to change the processor with the better one, mine was Single Core Intel Processor and soon I changed it with Dual Core. But I confused whether Dual core is better or Core 2 duo does.

It’s a bit confusing what’s so special about Intel Core 2 Duo
Just a note that both Dual core and Core 2 Duo have used 2 processors work together, after I searched a little, I found that Dual core has special features

- Bigger cache
- Virtualization
- Faster Access

So Core 2 duo need less power and has faster performance.
And of course more expensive than Dual Core.

Alhamdulillah senang rasa hati hari ini, akhirnya PC saya dengan spesifikasi hardware pas-pasan bisa nyangkut hackintos iatkos v.7 10.5.7. saya juga install di laptop saya Hp Compaq 510 namun driver yang mau jalan cuma sound-nya saja. VGA dan network masih belum nyangkut.

alhamdulillah semuanya jalan dengan baik, kecuali VGA-nya masih belum nyangkut driver yang pas sehingga QE-nya belum jalan..hiks..memang harus rajin ngoprek dan sabar menghadapi hackintos ini. bagi yang mengetahui solusi untuk display id milik saya ini kalau ndak keberatan boleh kasih wejangan berharga buat saya juragan.
ternyata belajar linux dan freebsd jauh lebih mudah daripada hackintosh karena linux dan freebsd memang produk open source yang memungkinkan bebas melakukan apa aja terhadapnya. sedangkan hackintosh bagi newbie seperti saya sedikit-sedikit crash, kernel panic, dsb karena kesalahan yang tidak disadari, walhasil musti install ulang lagi dech. sejauh ini saya sudah melakukan install ulang lebih dari 20 kali, berhasilnya cuma 2 kali.hahaha..maklum newbie cupu banget euy, main hajar-hajar aja..
