A great platformer that sadly time has forgot…

From the begining Ape Escape seems pretty simple, ‘just go and catch some monkeys’. But there is alot more to this game than that. This game is packed with surprises, and is charmed with catchy and addictive gameplay. The first time i played Ape Escape was at a friends on its launch day, like many his mother had bought him the limited edition box set with controller, and well i think we played it from breakfast untill dinner. We knew this game was special, but neither of us could predict what impact this game would have in the future of Playstation. Because this game can only be played with the dual shock this game was unaccessable to some, but we knew the future layed with dual shock and vibration, as Ape Escape can only be played with Dual Shock controllers the release must have been a massive gamble for Sony Playstation, but turns out it was just a great technological advance for Playstation. Since this game, not many games were ever relesed without Dual shock compatibility/option, infact it was a serious programming floor if it didn’t; as basically everyone wanted to play with dual shock.

Ape escape for me is one of the best games ever released on Playstation. At the time the graphics were unbelievable, and the huge 3-d levels  to explore were fantastic, infact 10 years on i’m still finding new areas. Unlike most platformers this game had multiple twists, including some great unlockables, including my favourite unlockable, a remote control car, which is something i found incredible at the time, ‘you control your character that controls the car’ it was very different to any game i’d ever played. The bosses can become pretty difficult as you progress through the game, but after a few attempts you’ll beat them. This game overall is beautiful, the sound is incredibly crisp and has english speaking characters which is a great change from subtitles. The gameplay is highly addictive, and upon playing you’re highly likely to loose a few hours to the game. The graphics have aged slightly, but play it on a ps1 screen and this won’t be a problem. This game does have a pokemon element to it, i mean “got to catch them all” and “catch all the monkeys” is pretty similar, slightly; and Ape Escape has a professor too… maybe Sony had a little influence from Pokemon? probably. Nevertheless this game as a whole is huge, and too much to sum up in a review, but you need to know every monkey has an indiviual name and character to it. Its actually really interesting and adds alot of charm to the game, and for me made the game.

This game isn’t just a platformer, its an adventure. You can get this game online for around £2, which really is a bargain and will be the best £2 you spend for a while i’m sure. Ape Escape does now have 10 years to it, but this game is still a great bit of fun, infact its fantastic.

Deberían de llamarlo "Dolly Motion Controller" LOL!

Kaz Hirai, presidente de Playstation, ha confirmado que la tecnología de control por movimiento de Sony, llamada motion controller (Dolly), será lanzada durante… la primavera del 2010.

Hirai reveló esta fecha aproximada durante la GamesCom, explicando además que están trabajando para apoyar su llegada al mercado con un buen catálogo de juegos.

Al parecer Sony ya empieza a planear las cosas antes de abrir el hocico la boca y tiene bien en cuenta que no por sacar un control “innovador” se venderá por sí solo, está tomando muy en cuenta que debe de ir de la mano de un buen juego (Sony Sports?).

“Lo tenemos previsto (el motion controller) para primavera del próximo año”- declaró Hirai a The Times-“.  “Una de las cosas que tenemos en cuenta es que no queremos sólo poner ahí fuera el mando. Necesitamos un gran software que apoye su lanzamiento. Es algo en lo que hemos estado trabajando durante mucho tiempo.”

Según reveló Sony durante la conferencia que ofreció la semana pasada en Colonia, mostrarán de forma más detallada cómo funciona esta tecnología durante la próxima gran feria de los videojuegos, el Tokio Game Show.   Así que esperen hasta septiembre para ver como funciona “La varita mágica de Sony”.

En lo personal, no me llama nadita la atención está tecnología, ni la de Project Natal cabe aclarar.   Faltaría poner bien en claro las aplicaciones en juegos.   Me sigo quedando con aquel bosquejo del DualShock que se partía en 2.

La misma fregadera, sólo que tendría un control "extra" y sin la luz de nariz de payaso.

Sony va voir la vie en bleu et rouge.  A partir du mois d’octobre la manette dual shock sera disponible en rouge et en bleu, mais uniquement aux Etats-Unis.  Rien de prévu pour l’Europe (une fois de plus).

Como iba a quedarme solo en casa (Wanda salió con una amiga), terminé en la casa de Nikko. Anduvimos viendo fotos de su viaje, hablando de la vida, comiendo, pero lo principal fue que nos matamos con la playstation 2. Primero con el winning eleven (donde le pasé el trapo) y después jugando al micro machine (juego simple pero extremadamente adictivo), ahi se sumó Natalie y hubo unos cuantos duelos muy peleados (aunque en ese juego me ganaron la mayoría de las veces).

Y como estaba ocupado acelerando a fondo con los mini autitos, Nikko se tuvo que encargar de sacar la foto para el día de hoy.

Já pensou em ter um chaveirnho de miniatura do controle do PlayStation no seu PSP ou até mesmo na sua mochila ou chaveiro?

Nós todos já ouvimos falar do Classic Controller estilo Nintendo SNES para o Nintendo Wii. Agora a empresa anunciou um controle melhorado que deve ser lançado lá pro meio do ano.

O Classic Controller Pro é essencialmente o Classic Controller tunado com alguns botões laterais extras, grips para as mãos e hastes analógicas mais espaçadas entre elas. [Ben Heck] posted his PS360 controller. This is the case of an Xbox360 controller with the guts of the Dual Shock 3 from the PS3. They Dpad is from a ps2. We guess that if you can build them any way you want, you might as well make it exactly how you want it. Wasn’t there a time when everyone laughed at the bulky Xbox controllers? Yes, we know, they’re smaller now but that comic pops into mind anyway.

Mini-review on the Gioteck Real triggers for the PlayStation 3 controller.

Most of Sony’s fans, and more so haters, are fully aware of the misfit scheme for their game-controllers. Do you ever get tired of your fingertip slipping off the L2/R2 shoulder-buttons when you’re about to frag someone in Resistance 2, or when you’re onto an awesome Burnout? I know I do.

I’ve found the solution to this, and it has been out for a while. The “flick” started out to only have intentions to be a “little extra” for the PlayStation Magazine UK’ trusty readers – but has turned out to be one of the best gadgets/mods for your PS3 (pressure on controller) to hit earth this far.

What the Gioteck triggers does is adding grip on the shoulder-buttons, the mod may look horribly cheap (and it is); but it works wonders! It makes your shoulder-button arch out under your fingers and actually supporting them as they struggle to keep onto the surface of the shoulder-button itself. In addition the Gioteck triggers makes the controller feel more compact and adult-friendly as a whole, it’s just great.

The package itself isn’t anything fancy (It comes in a grey/black/red-designed cardboard box). I live in Norway, so I bought them from a Norwegian netshop called Gamezone, I am sure GioTeck have their products in a lot of other shops around the world as well though!

They costed 60,- NOK, which is like 8$ USD or 7£ GBP. Not a lot and I can tell you right now: It’s so worth it if you’re annoyed by the fingerslipping problem.

Before applying the mod

R2 and L2 shoulder buttons tend to slip “out” of your grip whenever you rely on them – This is annoying and should never have been added to the final design, even if Sony has stayed with the same scheme since PlayStation 1.

After applying the mod

Shoulder buttons now curving out from your fingers instead of “into” like the old shoulder buttons did – Resulting in a much tighter grip and a more compact feel overall. The way a controller should sit and feel in your hand.

The good

+ Relatively cheap
+ Makes the controller feel so more comfortable and compact
+ Your shoulder-button fingers won’t slip no more
+ Easy to attach, just clip them on and go

The bad
- Looks cheap (It is cheap, so not really that much of a minus)

More news from Leipzig, Sony is releasing a keypad/touchpad combo device for PS3. The device will attach to the top of your controller, toggling between keypad and touchpad mode with the touch of a button. Sorry, no photos yet, but if I find one, I’ll post it.  Looking at the photo, not sure how the touchpad thing will work, but hey, I’ll reserve judgement.

Aggghhhh!!! There is something really annoying happening to my ps3.In the middle of a game the controller disconnects and i can’t reconnect. I’ve tried a lot of ways including the button on back and yes it is fully charged!!The only way to reconnect is to restart the system. If anyone has a clue how to fix this, please comment. The controller is fine and now i know it is the ps3 cause i bought a new controller and it still happened.

*People keep saying there is some other bluetooth device that is interfering, others say its my 2.46ghz router.*

QUESTION: Would this problem be fixed if I just bought a wired controller?

Back in 1999 Sony released the “Dual Shock” controller for the PlayStation. In direct competition with Nintendo as they had already released the “Rumble” pack that they had launched with Lylat Wars back in 1997.

Of course Sony did not want to have to use batteries for this vibration feature so it had used the PlayStations own Power Supply which in turn made sense and did not make as much noise as Nintendo’s Rumble Pack.

There were several colours available, Black, Grey and Translucent Blue also made its way to the shelves and as standard came bundled with the consoles from 1999. Separatley it would cost £24.99 to buy (although £1.50 on ebay now!)

The first games to implement the “Dual Shock” Feature were Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Spyro and Tekken 3 but bear in mind the actual dual sticks were more used for these games.

Quanto sarebbe bella un’offerta del genere anche nel nostro Paese! In Canada, evidentemente, hanno un’idea di marketing molto più avanzata e la catena Best Buy ha deciso di assestare un grosso colpo al mercato videoludico.

Comprando una copia di Gran Turismo 5 Prologue per 39,99$ canadesi, ci si può portare a casa un Dual Shock 3 a 20$ canadesi: con 59,99$ si mettono le mani su un bel bundle! Dov’è l’offerta? In Canada, solo il nuovo controller della PS3 viene venduto a 59,99$: il gioco, quindi, è praticamente regalato!

Chissà se in Italia vedremo mai un’offerta del genere!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the 360 and its controller (which aside from a right analog stick and shoulder buttons is the Dreamcast controller). The 360 is the first console I’ve had with a wireless controller and I absolutely love not having to untangle cords or get up to turn on/off the console. That aside, I hate the D-Pad on the 360 controller so god damn much. Find out why after the break. *dun dun dun*

The D-Pad had never really been a problem for me until I downloaded Pac-Man Championship Edition on XBLA, a game that is very heavy on going the correct direction at all times. It doesn’t help at all when the controller fights you ever step of the way. I press up, but because the D-Pad is so sensitive even if my thumb is barely tilted to the left Pac-Man will go that way. You need to practically force the button down as hard as you can in the direction you want to go to get it to register correctly which becomes especially hard later in the game when Pac-Man is traveling very quickly. It’s messed me up so many times I’ve gone hoarse swearing at the TV.

What’s especially strange about the D-Pad is that it’s more like another analog stick. It’s just one big, flat button that rotates in place. I can’t imagine how hard pulling off moves in a fighting game (as if I would play a fighting game anyway…) is with this controller. It was hard enough to cast Alucard’s spells in Symphony of the Night with this thing.

I’ve noticed that the D-Pad is most annoying when playing XBLA games that are heavy on it. It is also quite annoying in retail games like Oblivion (which by the way is no where near as good as Morrowind) when trying to quick select an item/spell and getting the wrong item/spell, but I did not have any problems with it in Rainbow Six: Vegas or any of the other 360 games I’ve played.

Oh well, they can’t all be the DualShock.

Uma das novidades que achei mais interessante foi a possibilidade de rodar o Skype e fazer chamadas pelo console portátil da Sony, o PSP (modelo Slim & Lite).

Outra novidade foi a parceria firmada entre a Sony e a empresa Nichia para desenvolver um novo chip com a tecnologia “Blu-ray” que promete reduzir o preço do PS3.

Outros rumores sobre o PS3 incluem a retirada do mercado do modelo de 80 GB e a chegada dos de 120 e 160 GB com controles Dual Shock 3.

Una de las novedades que se esperan para la próxima feria de videojuegos E3 que empieza la próxima semana es la renovación de la PSP, la consola portátil de Sony, la cual lleva mucho tiempo con rumores sobre una actualización. Sin confirmación oficial, una serie de imágenes parecen ser lo que se presentará en los próximos días como PSP Go.

Con un diseño más aerodinámico y futurista, las características técnicas que la atribuyen son prácticamente las mismas que se le vienen rumoreando desde hace meses.

Esta consola, que va a convivir con el modelo actual de PSP (PSP 3000), será de tipo slider con los controles escondidos bajo la pantalla y vendrá con 16 GB de capacidad de almacenamiento, algo que servirá para almacenar juegos, pues no incluirá lector de UMD. A ello le sumará una ranura para tarjetas de memoria.

Según citan algunas fuentes, vendrá con pantalla retrotáctil para poder movernos por el menú XMB o en futuros juegos diseñados exclusivamente para la pantalla táctil, sin tener que deslizar “el teclado” de controles. Algo también muy práctico para quienes la usen como GPS en el coche.

Por mi parte, creo que otra sorpresa podría ser la vibración de la cual la Playstation de salón goza desde su primera versión. El motivo por el que los anteriores modelos PSP no incorporaban vibración creo que está claro, y esque incorporando en la misma máquina un lector de discos, la vibración ocasiona defectos en la lectura del mismo, pero con la próxima PSP Go, que está confirmado que carecerá de lector de discos UMD, es muy posible que nos encontremos con este regalito, aunque claro, sólo funcionaría con juegos nuevos que estén programados para hacerla funcionar, o en todo caso, juegos antiguos que, mediante parches la incluyeran.

La PSP Go saldrá a la venta a partir de otoño de este año y su precio todavía no ha sido desvelado, pero es de imaginar que será o bien ligeramente superior al del modelo actual o bien este último reducirá su coste. La confirmación oficial para la semana que viene.

Actualización: Tras la presentación oficial de la videoconsola en el E3, confirmamos que la PSP Go carecerá de pantalla táctil y vibración. Así que a no ser que su gráfica sea más potente, la única novedad que veremos, respecto la PSP-3000, será el rediseño y la incorporación de bluetooth.
