Wala na ang mga blasting, ang mga nakakatakot ng pagmumukha ng mga goons, ang mga pa-tweetums pero nagpapa-sexy na leading ladies at ang mga maaangas na bida na kadalasan ay naka-leather jacket na itim.

Siempre dagdag pa sa naging dagok dito ang pagpanaw ng tinaguriang Da King ng action films sa bansa na si Fernando Poe Jr., ang kaisa-isang actor na kinikilala kong action star. Pero bakit hindi natin buhayin ang mga pamatay na linya nila di ba? Yun nga lang medyo mabaho ang dating.

Frumoasa mea a fost cântecul ce l-a propulsat chiar dacă nu l-a interpretat el. A fost însă treapta de care avea nevoie pentru a ajunge celebritatea de azi. Ovidiu Komorniyk e un artist care şi-a regăsit prin cântecul încredinţat lui Marcel Pavel în acel an locul în ierarhia muzicală. Nu aş spune ca până atunci a fost un anonim însă ca orice romantic incurabil cum se autodefineşte, lui Ovidiu i-a trebuit acea scânteie. Ca să te remarci astazi în plan muzical ai nevoie de un moment în carieră care să surprindă, care să trezească ceva în ceilalţi. Au urmat Te-am tradat sau Eşti mireasa vieţii mele ca să nu mai vorbim de Maria, Maria, piese care l-au propulsat definitiv în conştiinţa şi mentalul publicului larg. Dincolo de talentul şi entuziasmul de a compune, trăsături caracteristice marilor artişti, Ovidiu Komorniyk îşi consuma seva interioară la maximum pentru că e un romantic, un etern îndrăgostit iar sensibilitatea  e arma cu care el atacă. Mi-am dat seama că a fi fan e foarte greu. Mulţi nu m-ar crede. Bineînţeles e greu din moment ce eşti un fan adevărat şi nu doar o picătură de ploaie. Un astfel de fan e ca o dragoste adevarată plină de pasiune. Mi -aduc aminte cum m-am rugat şi mă rog pentru acest om cu toată puterea gândului. În primul rând trebuie să iubeşti necondiţionat. Trebuie să-l susţii şi să te zbaţi să-i fie bine. Am plâns şi încă mai plâng când îmi scapă ceva despre el: un articol, interviu, o apariţie… Poate, pare o prostie, dar schimb o mie de petreceri între fete pentru o emisiune în care apare el chiar dacă e pentru cinci secunde. În al doilea rând, pentru un fan, tot ce face idolul trebuie să fie foarte important. Nu zic să nu-l critice, tocmai dacă-i pasă de el, trebuie să-l critice, însă o face într-un mod gingaş, nu răutăcios. Face asta ca data viitoare să se mândrească şi mai mult cu fiinţa adorată.Un fan adevărat îl susţine pe idol când îl simte trist sau când vreun coleg de breaslă i-a luat-o înainte sau nu a ajuns în nu ştiu care top. Un fan adevărat e mereu fericit dacă îşi vede idolul fericit, împlinit.

Parasti priecājos par rakstiem kurus rakstu, jo prātā tie rodas patīkamos iedvesmas un apgaismības brīžos. Bet kā jau dzīvē arī blogā gadās pa kādam melnam traipiņam, un manā gadījumā tas attiecināms uz rakstu sēriju par automašīnām un servisiem. Uzreiz jāatzīstas, ka rakstot “Mūžīgais serviss” un “Mūžīgais serviss #2” pat nedaudz šaubījos vai maz man ir vērts celt gaismā faktus un nomelnot kādu konkrētu autoservisu. Vakar beidzot nācu pie atziņas ka viss izdarīts pareizi un ka Tautai bija un ir jāzin savi varoņi

Pie apskaidrības mani veda degvielas smaka un skaisti bālgani dūmiņi, kas sēžot sastrēgumā aiz Salu tilta nepiespiesti virmoja ap auto kapotu. Uzreiz jāsaka, ka ļoti pārsteigts par to nebiju, jo jau pāris nedēļas aizdomīga likās degvielas smaka, bet to norakstīju uz paša izlieto degvielu autostāvvietā kad rūķīši no “lieliskā autoservisa” bija pamanījušies radīt sūci degvielas bākas apvidū. Šoreiz situācija likās nopietnāka un zvans draugam palīdzēja saprast, ka jāstājas nost vai fiksi jāmūk uz kādu autoservisu. Tā nu es ar savu kumeļu kā apdzisis, bet vēl kūpošs grils šāvos pa Ulmaņa gatvi uz “Autostils” autoservisu meklēt palīdzību. Traucoties uz norādīto adresi jau biju sevi iztēlojies braucam lieliskā, sarkanzilām liesmām degošā Volvo ar ieslēgtām avārijas gaismām un pēc tam vēl stāvot pie grillētā auto vraka un sniedzot interviju “Degpunktam”. Sapņošanai daudz laika neatlika, jo “Autostils” servisā mani uzņēma laipni un visai operatīvi tika konstatēts, ka “lieliskā autoservisa” rūķīši nebija normāli uzskrūvējuši motora degvielas padeves šļauciņas. Tas viss? Ne sūda… Ķēdes reakcija – šļauciņas laiž garām degvielu, kas tek uz motora un tālāk uz “spilvena”, kurš savukārt laika gaitā tiek saēsts! I wanted to let you all know that my good friend Dumi will be on television tonight (10/8/08) at 9pm on WTVS (Detroit Public TV), 760am WJR, 101.9fm. The show is also available online. Dumi will be an expert panelist on Bridging the Racial Divide: Part Four. Over the last two years, the series has taken a candid and often contentious look at the role of race in Metro Detroit. The series has gotten a lot of great feedback and the good folks at Kingberry productions have brought some past panelists and new panelists together to discuss what’s happening and on the horizon for Metro Detroit. There are some heavy hitters on board joining Dumi on the panel including Dave Bing, Peter Karmanos, and others.

I was fortunate enough to see the taping and have an audience with the panelists in the green room. And for those who don’t know, Dave Bing is currently the safest bet in terms of trying to predict the next mayor of Detroit. Check out the show tonight and show Dumi some love.

R. L’Heureux Lewis, better know to SuperSpade readers as Dumi, is one of my intellectual heroes. Since I met him at the University of Michigan, he has always challenged me to look more deeply into issues and events to understand how to more effectively respond.

Cyber Leashes

I know you’ve seen them. In fact you’re likely in close proximity to one or multiple of them at this very moment. Some call them smart phones, blackberries, treos, sidekicks, whatever you call it, it’s likely too damn big and still attached to your hip or ear (if it’s not on your ear you’re probably wearing your Spock ear piece). Now I admit, I’m an addict, I’m addicted to my phone, I’m addicted to my Bluetooth headset, I’m addicted to the ability to check email, but I’m really not sure why.

I know that you’ve probably read the numerous articles that cite Americans are over exposed to work and under exposed to leisure, but I can’t help but notice we have almost all subscribed to the cyber leashes of technology. I remember the first time I saw a blackberry it was years ago and my aunt who worked for the Pentagon had one, I remember thinking, “I’ll never get one of those, it just means you can always be answering people” fast forward six years or so and I’m gleefully checking my email while sipping an overpriced latte. So you may ask, “Why are you so concerned with the idea that many have opted for access to information all the time at the fingertips?” The simple answer is if you’re like me, nine times out of ten, you’re not getting things that will improve your life, liberate our people, or are even necessary. You’re just checking email to check it, just visiting that blog to see if somebody in cyberspace responded to your last comment, trying to see if that email giving you more work that will make someone else rich has come across, or you’re just plain bored. That’s right, I said it, Americans are bored and we’ve opted for cyber leashes to compensate.

My brother Brandon has been breaking down the connections between friendships and Black men, but I think it goes well beyond just that group. Let’s be real, how many myspace, friendster, orkut, facebook, dodgeball, etc. associates do you have? Now how many of them do you talk to? It’s much easier to pretend to interact with them via the occasional message and seeing who else they’re talking to then talking to them and finding out what is really going on in their life. Just like it’s easier to wade through spam on my treo than work on my damn dissertation. We as a people have become bored in part because we’re too accessible but also in part because we’re easily distracted. We have enabled this boredom with technology.

For months I’ve been thinking about our obsessions with technology. Thinking what life was like before the cell phone and the internet, and it’s getting really hard to remember! As we step forward into the digital age and get more and more access to the world at our fingertips I only hope we don’t leave behind what “makes the world go round” … people. Next time you grab your hip to check that text message, to look up that movie time, to just look at your phone cause you’re deathly bored, think about doing something that is going to better the condition of the folks around you, just not fatten the pockets of cell phone companies.
