The AP is reporting that the legendary professional Basketball player Allen Iverson is set to announce his retirement from the N.B.A. Iverson , a former Most Valuable Player for the N.B.A. has been in the league since the 1996 season, in which he was drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

He played with the Sixers for 10 years. During his tenure he was Rookie of the Year, League MVP, 2x All-Star MVP, and led the league in scoring for four years. After his rookie season, during which he led the 76ers in points, assists and minutes, Iverson was named the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year and was a member of the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The 10-time All-Star played three games this season with Memphis before taking a leave of absence to attend to personal matters. He was waived after the two sides agreed to part ways.

The New York Knicks considered signing Iverson last week after he cleared waivers, before deciding he would take too much playing time away from younger players they are trying to develop.

With no apparent interest from any other NBA teams, Allen Iverson is set to retire.

Iverson will always be credited for popularizing the streetball style move called the cross-over, and for his exciting tricky aggressive driving style of play.

He was never the tallest on the floor, just the most dangerous player that always wanted the ball.

Allen Iverson is a sho-in for the Hall of Fame, and I suspect that he can still run with the best of them, given a team that can design their plays to allow Iverson to shoot at will.

I personally enjoyed the years I got to watch him compete in the NBA, and I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.

Thanks for the 100 percent effort Allen Iverson…you were worth watching and you will be missed.

Candace Parker did it seven times. West Virginia’s Georgeann Wells was the first. Now another joins the pantheon.  Tuesday night, Baylor’s Brittney Griner became only the seventh woman in the history of college basketball to dunk. Video, if you haven’t noticed, is above.

Griner is a star 6-foot-8 freshman center at Baylor, averaging 15.0 points per game, a team high for the No. 8-ranked Bears. Dunking is nothing new for Griner, who threw down 52 times in high school, making her possibly the most entertaining female high school basketball player ever.

Toronto bench triumphs as Raptors easily defeat Indiana

Jarrett Jack smiled over at his former Pacer teammates when he came in off the bench, foreshadowing what became his best effort of the season. Jack was 7 for 7 from the field, scoring 18 points and handing out 6 assists as the Raptors defeated Indiana 123 – 112.

“I felt extra energized,” Jack said. “That might have something to do with me playing against my old team, but I felt like I was in a good rhythm from the moment I was warming up with Coach Alvin Williams,” he continued. “I just came out firing, man. I just have to thank my teammates they found me on a lot of my open shots and I was able to knock them down.”

Jose Calderon also had a big game, scoring 21 points and dishing out 7 assists. The two guards played on the same line for key portions of the game, a combination that impressed Raptors Head Coach Jay Triano.

“I really liked when they were out there together,” Coach Jay Triano said. “At one point they were probably thinking they were competing for a position and now they realize they can play together on the floor as well as give each other relief.”

Last season, the Toronto Raptors had a choice between Calderon and T.J. Ford at the point. Ford was a selfish player, unable to come off the bench without feeling slighted while putting up lesser numbers than his teammate. Ford had 16 points last night but was ineffective against both Calderon and Jack when it counted, putting more pressure on Danny Granger to step up. Granger did his part, scoring a game high 36 points while fetching 9 boards, but it just wasn’t enough.

“They shot 55 percent tonight,” Granger said, also holding a copy of the box score. “I don’t even know what to say. We emphasized what we wanted to do. Sometimes we do it and sometimes we don’t and we didn’t do it tonight.”

Raptors rookie DeMar DeRozan continued to see his playing time diminish, scoring 8 points in just 10 minutes as a starter. Rasho Nesterovich finally got some quality playing time and used it productively, scoring 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds in 16 minutes. Chris Bosh struggled with his game but still had his twelfth double double of the year, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 boards in the victory for the Raps.

Toronto continues its heavy schedule today as they face off against the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Nimitz HS grad’s dunking has been sort of a youtube hit over the years!  She slammed one home in the Baylor game last night to become only the 7th woman ever to dunk in an NCAA game.

Toronto shoots 58% and continues to dominate Eastern Conference teams

They needed it. They needed it badly.

The Toronto Raptors are an interesting team this year. Once again they find themselves unable to cope with opposing big men and perimeter defense, but this time something is different.

This team can score.

The Raptors returned home and easily handled the Miami Heat 120 – 113 in a game that saw some much needed clutch shooting by Jarret Jack in the final frame. Jack scored 12 of his 17 points in the fourth, securing victory from a pesky Heat squad that rattled off a 14-0 run that cut Toronto’s lead to just 2 points.

“I just knew it was going to turn around for me at some point,” Jack said. “Last night we had the day off, and I was on the gym late getting up shots. I didn’t know when, but I knew at some point in time, it was going to pay off for me. I’m just glad it was today.”

Chris Bosh continued his contract-year style of play, pouring in 29 points and snatching 12 boards. Bosh also had four blocks in the victory. The team looked rejuvenated after looking worn out in Utah on Wednesday where they collapsed in the final half. The team outrebounded their opponents for just the second time this season.

“Rebounding is important but I think we can still do better team-wise,” Bosh said. “One thing I wanted to challenge Andrea to do this year and challenge myself to do this year is rebound the basketball. We did a good job, we just have to do a better job of limiting their second-chance points and the offensive rebounds.”

Andrea Bargnani finished with 24 points to go along with 10 boards and was key down the stretch, hitting a clutch three pointer and driving the lane with some big man authority. DeMar DeRozan, still trying to feel comfortable as an NBA starter, made up for his disappearing offense by pulling down 7 rebounds of his own. DeRozan is expected to continue starting for the Raps but may be relegated to bench status once Antoine Wright returns from a sprained ankle injury.

Dwayne Wade and Mario Chalmers each scored 30 points for the Heat who fall to a record of 7 – 6 on the year. The raptors are now 4 – 1 against Eastern Conference teams, second only to the surprising Atlanta Hawks who have an 11 – 2 record on the season overall, including a 6 – 1 record against the East.

The Raptors play the Orlando Magic on Sunday afternoon at the ACC.

The other night, Miami’s Dwayne Wade started off the season with a bang by dunking on A. Varejao in the Heat/Cavaliers game in Miami.  Too bad they lost to the Cavs, but this dunk will be a highlight of the year.  Check out the video by clicking here!

How about some love for the greatest practice player of all-time? Joey Graham is actually now a member of the Nuggets, who the Raps face Tuesday night in Denver. He’s averaging just 3.7 points in seven games, but believe me, he runs Carmelo Anthony ragged every morning at shootaround.

So Saturday I had the chance to shoot both OSU football and OSU basketball, and it wound up being a very long day.

Not to help matters out, but i had to end up sitting in the media room of  GIA for almost more the two hours to be expected.

When the refs finally showed up we thought the game was about to start, but then out of no were they added more time to the clock. Would you like to know why? It’s because the other team decided they were hungry and it was time for them to go get some quizznos.

MMM MMM Good is what the cowboys were saying after the game, because they wound up beating Seattle U, and advanced in the Las Vegas tournament.

Yessir! The new Nike SB Gucci Dunk Highs have been released. There’s been a lot of hype surrounding these shoes for a long time. Personally when the pictures were first released I thought they were UGLY. I’ll admit though,  they grew on me. Now I think they’re pretty hot ^_^

I would definitely cop ‘em but they cost WAAAAY too much for my pockets. For now I’ll just admire the pics I see online.

I also just got back from Amerikicks. Its a martial arts tournament in Philadelphia. I had a great time kickin and twisting with some of the best trickers in our community. They also held they’re first martial arts tricks battle up there. My boy Jayel won 1st place and $1000 cash. Will Coneys and Moe Alafrangy made it all the way to the semi-finals. More on that in a later post.

Kobe loves to create dunks while soaring through the air, especially when he drives baseline.

7)  Amare Stoudemire

He’s a center, but he throws down acrobatic dunks like a guard.

8)  Rudy Gay

Gay has great body control in the air and can each jump over defenders or finesse his way around them.

9)  Vince Carter

While Vince’s best days are behind him, he still holds his own with the rest of the young dunkers. His style is unique and he is a great innovator.

10)  Trevor Ariza

Ariza soars through the air and isn’t afraid to challenge the trees inside, mostly because he dunks right over them.
