Morgen, am 18. Dezember, sollen die dazu gehörigen Benchmark-Tests veröffentlicht werden. Zu verdanken hat der PRIMERGY RX600 seinen Bestwert dem eingesetzten neuen Intel Dunnington Multi-Core Prozessor. Die Spezifikationen des neuen Spitzenreiters PRIMERGY RX600 S4: Vier sechs-Core Intel Xeon X7460 (Dunnington) Prozessoren, 64  GB Speicher und vier PRO/1000PT Quad-Port Gigabit Ethernet-Controller. <p>Hai la IBM, hai la HP sa ne luam un server. Nu stiati ca si Fujitsu Siemens are servere? Eu sunt convins ca lumea site. Totusi, ei sunt mult mai noi pe aceasta piata. Pe vremea cand HP-ul a decis sa investeasca o gramada de bani in divizia de servere, imediat dupa ce s-au iubit cu cei de la Compaq, Fujitsu-Siemens a atacat puternic si el pe aceeasi felie de tort.</p>
<p>Intre timp, lucrurile au evoluat mult, concurenta este mare si toata lumea se bate cu benchmark-urile in piept, privind de sus concurenta. Am aruncat si eu o privire in aceasta gradina si am observat ca a aparut cel mai puternic server PRIMERGY de pana acum (asa se numesc serverele Fujitsu Siemens Computers)</p>
<p>Patru procesoare cu sase inimi fiecare bat in pieptul celor mai performate servere din aceasta generatie. Mi-as dori si eu 24 de inimi, dar mi-e frica ca nu o sa stau prea bine cu tensiunea dupa aceea <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Deci, procesoarele Dunnington de la Intel sunt &#8220;vinovatele&#8221; pentru performantele<!--more--> serverelor PRIMERGY, ce consuma extrem de putin pentru performantele lor. Modelul de server-rack x86 PRIMERGY RX600 S4 poate fi comandat imediat (e pi stoc, sic!) şi are în dotare noul procesor Intel Xeon MP 7400, care a fost şi el proaspăt lansat. Acest produs îmbină procesoarele 4 şi 6 core pentru a aduce până la 16 MB în plus la nivelul 3 de tip &#8220;cache&#8221; pentru a furniza o performanţă de top.</p>
<p>Noul server PRIMERGY RX600 S4 are un RAM micut, de doar 256GB (eu am HDD-ul mai mic pe computerul meu decat RAM-ul astuia). Totusi, acest RAM se bazeaza pe modulele de 8GB ce nu vor fi disponibile decat la sfarsitul anului. Pana atunci, va trebui sa va multumiti doar cu 128GB. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Daca m-ar bate gandul sa-mi au asa ceva, as renunta din doua motive:</p>
<p>1. este destinat aplicatiilor de tipul ERP sau CRM si nu suntem destui in casa pentru a accesa simultan sistemul.</p>
<p>2. am banuiala ca e mai scump decat laptopul meu sau cel al sotiei</p>
<p>Deci, nu o sa va dau cu Benchmark in cap, spunandu-va doar ca e tare la astea. Pentru priceputi, aruncati o privire <a href="http://www.spec.org/cpu2006/results/cpu2006.html" target="_blank">aici</a>. Daca mai sunteti curiosi si la alte statistici si topuri puteti analiza pagina <a href="http://www.tpc.org/tpce/tpce_perf_results.asp" target="_blank">asta</a> si pe <a href="http://www.tpc.org/tpce/tpce_price_perf_results.asp" target="_blank">asta</a>.</p>
<p>In rest, numai de bine, si o sa-i vedem in curand si pe cei de la IBM HP sau Dell cu ce noutati vin in domeniu.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p class="MsoNormal"><!--[if gte mso 9]&#62;                                                                                                                                             &#60;![endif]-->En el evento por excelencia de la Virtualización, el <a href="http://josemariagonzalez.es/2008/09/17/en-vivo-desde-las-vegas-vmworld-2008-dia-1/" target="_blank">VMworld,</a> que este año tuvo lugar en la famosa ciudad de las Vegas, pudimos ver por primera vez y en exclusiva la funcionalidad Flex Migration de Intel.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
<p class="MsoNormal">Para ponértelo de una forma muy sencilla, a partir del nuevo chip Intel Xeon Series 7400 (Dunnington) que Intel acaba de sacar esta semana, nos aseguraran que podamos hacer una migración en caliente con VMware VMotion hacia cualquier otro procesador Intel de nueva generación.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
<p class="MsoNormal">También he podido comprobar que es posible migrar en caliente con VMware VMotion una maquina virtual desde el nuevo chip de  Intel Xeon Series 7400 hacia  chips de dos generaciones anteriores Intel Series 5300 , pero eso sí, con la opción <a href="http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vmotion_info_guide.pdf" target="_blank">EVC (Enhanced VMotion Compatibility)</a> activada en VMware ESX.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Ahora solo queda esperar  que hagan VMotion compatible el chip de Intel con el chip de AMD para poder desplegar granjas de virtualización sin preocuparnos de compatibilidad VMotion de VMware</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Jake Smith de Intel Corporation y Dave Martin de Vmware Inc nos cuentan en este vídeo como las dos compañías han trabajado en conjunto para traer al público esta nueva funcionalidad</p>

<p><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#3366ff;"><strong>Intel&#8217;s</strong></span> </span>latest server chips, the <span style="color:#00ccff;"><strong>Xeon 7400 series</strong></span>, formerly called Dunnington, are now available in six-core and  quad-core models designed to be used in systems with four or more processors. It has been developed at Intel India&#8217;s Bangalore Design Center. The first chip to be developed outside United States, which will give AMD run for money, already trailing behind Intel&#8217;s stronghold of High End Server Segment.</p>

<p>This new chip is far more superior over its predecessor, the Xeon 7200 series. It is a 45 nanometer processor, and runs at clock speeds up to 2.66GHz. The performance improvement comes from adding 16MB level 3 cache. They are first Xeon chips to use level 3 cache, in which the data is stored closer to the processor cores, which helps boost an overall performance and reduces power consumption. This is first quad-core and six-core chips produced on a single piece of silicon.</p>
<p>The Dunnington chip design marks a technical milestone for Intel, as it uses a  monolithic die, the term engineers use to describe putting all of the cores on a  single piece of silicon.</p>
<p>The Xeon 7400 series is the last member of Intel&#8217;s Penryn chip family to be  released. Later this year, the company will shift to a new processor  architecture called Nehalem.</p>

<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-676" src="http://xpressmusic.wordpress.com/files/2008/08/intel-039-s-nehalem-overclocks-to-4ghz-with-air-cooling-solution-2.jpg" alt="" width="68" height="64" /> As we are getting closer to the release date for Intel&#8217;s highly anticipated Core i7 processors, codenamed Nehalem, more rumors about the company&#8217;s next-generation processing units emerge. As already noted in some of our previous articles, the Nehalem architecture has been designed to provide computer enthusiasts with an impressive overclocking capability, so much so that at least one of the upcoming Core i7 models will reach a core speed of 4GHz+ using an air cooling solution.<!--more--></p>
<p>According to recent rumors, the 3.2GHz Core i7 processor will be one of the company&#8217;s best overclocking-capable computer CPUs. That&#8217;s because users will be able to boost the core speed all the way to 4GHz, using an air cooling solution. The rumors are certainly astounding, especially since they offer an early insight into what the LGA1366 Nehalems will be capable of. Unfortunately, at this particular point in time, no one can really say if we are talking about a reference cooling solution or a custom product, so we can only imagine that the Nehalems will be capable of higher core speeds, with liquid cooling solutions.</p>
<p>So far, a number of details have emerged about Intel&#8217;s upcoming processors and desktop chipset, the X58. Branded as Core i7, the new CPUs will require a new socket, which means that users will need to make a bigger investment than initially planned, if they want to step up to the next-generation Intel CPU architecture. The Nehalems can be scaled from 2 to 8 cores, provide triple-channel DDR3 memory controllers, and use Quick Path Interconnects bus. They will also feature support for multi-threading technology, which is similar to Intel&#8217;s Hyper-Threading.</p>
<p>The new Nehalem architecture will be used for both the company&#8217;s desktop and server chips. The first Nehalem CPUs are expected to debut later in Q4, while the 6-core processors, codenamed Dunnington, are set to make their debut in September. The former are designed to meet the requirements of server systems.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img src="http://blog.carlosduran.net/myfiles/images/intel_logo.jpg" alt="Nuevo procesador de 6 nucleos de Intel" align="right" />Durante el foro IDF de esta semana, Intel ha anunciado que los primeros procesadores de arquitectura Nehalem que se presentarán al mercado son los de sobremesa, los Core i7, y otros de servidores, llamados en clave Nehalem-EP.</p>
<p>Además, Intel mencionó sus planes de producir otro modelo para el mercado de servidores expandibles Nehalem-EX, las variantes de sobremesa (Havendale y Lynnfield) y de portátiles (Auburndale y Clarksfield), que llegarían en el segundo semestre de 2009.</p>
<p><!--more-->Todos estos procesadores tendrán cuatro núcleos, con la capacidad de ejecutar hasta 8 subprocesos gracias a la tecnología Hyper-Threading integrada.</p>
<p>Por otra parte, Intel presentará una CPU nueva con 6 núcleos llamada en clave Dunnington, el modelo Xeon X7460. Estará disponible para servidores a partir del mes que viene e Intel afirma que ya se ha logrado batir marcas de rendimiento con este procesador. El servidor IBM System x3945 M2, con 8 zócalos y con 8 procesadores Xeon X7460, ha sido el primero en romper la barrera del millón de tpmC en la prueba TPC-E.</p>
<p>También se mostraron las primeras CPUs de portátiles de cuatro núcleos y, por primera vez, la futura plataforma de portátiles Calpella.</p>
