after doing lot of research on sony models I decided to go with this new model. And now I can say that I made the right choice.

1) picture qaulity is perfect.

2) in-built speakers are louder than 8inch model and the sound is very good( I saw the sony 8 inch model at my friends place )

3) battery life – as advertised fully charged battery comes 6 Hrs(+- 15 min). I tested and confirmed this 3 times.

4) DVD drive is very quiet.

“Best Value and Quality for your $$”
I looked at many models for a couple of weeks before purchasing this portable DVD player. I am absolutely thrilled with it! I knew I would be as soon as I opened the box, but decided to wait until after our vacation to see if it held up. It is FANTASTIC!!!

First of all, the picture quality is awesome – as is the volume. It gets LOUD. I bought it for the purpose of keeping an 18 month old entertained on a plane ride and on a driving tour of California; it exceeded my expectations. I first had to use it in the airport waiting for the plane, and I am not joking or exaggerating when I say that it received compliments from people around us about the picture and sound quality (I didn’t have the headphones in use at that time). On the plane, the sound is so good that we could hear with or without headphones, but for courtesy’s sake, we used our headphones (had to purchase separately). No, you cannot rewind it just a little bit with the buttons on the player, but you CAN with the remote (which I neglected to pack). So, it was a blessing on the plane.

Secondly, we drove up Highway 1 from San Francisco to Crescent City in CA. If you’ve never driven the road, it’s not particularly smooth and it is probably the curviest road in America. The DVD player was simply sitting on the console between the front seats in the Nissan Exterra so my son could see it since we didn’t have a car mount, and it didn’t skip once!!! Again, the volume was so good that he could hear it perfectly, and the picture is great from any angle. The swivel feature is sooooo convenient, because you can fit it in virtually any space and still watch it. Also, the pictures don’t show it, but it not only swivels around, but it will fold back down on itself so it’s flat and you can still watch the screen.

If I could love an inanimate object, I would love this one. It is absolutely worth more money than the others. It is made of good quality materials – not plastic. Just don’t touch the screen (the wonderful 9 inch screen – it will get dirty with the slightest brush, but it’s easy enough to clean – even when it has milk spilled on it. That’s my only negative; otherwise, this is absolutely perfect.

Oh, almost forgot – the battery life is wonderful! That was the primary reason I decided on this one. The plane ride/travel time for the first day was 6+ hours, and this lasted as long as I needed it to. I love that it came with a car adapter, because that really helped, but the battery didn’t run out as long as we were out there, and that’s exactly what I needed. Finally, it is a true red. Maybe the guy who’s saying this is a feminine color accidentally ordered the pink one.

It is well made and the picture quality is amazing for a portable device, but it doesn’t surprise me since it is a Sony. The 9″ screen is much bigger than my last DVD player and it makes it easier to watch movies on a long car trip. Looking at this Sony, it is Obvious the resolution is much better! 800 x 480 Resolution shows every tiny detail in the movie. I had another brand DVD player that was not that old, and it was very noisy, at best gave me only 2 hours of battery and it’s since quit working. This Sony is build so well I have a feeling it will last for a long time. I think one (of the Many) of my favorite features is the “Advanced Soft Touch Keys” where you just slide your finger over the volume bar and it raises or lowers the volume, or you can tap the plus or minus sign to go up and down by one number. All the major controls are at the bottom of the screen right were it’s easiest to get to, and they all are the soft touch buttons. I even LOVE the fact that they made the finish to look very stylish BUT it resists fingerprints, smudges and minor scratches! (Very smart whoever designed this!) I actually am thinking of going back to Target where I purchased this, and buying another one for our other car. I might even get a few of these for Christmas gifts, I love it that much. So, if you want a super high quality Nine inch, high resolution screen, Portable DVD player.. you Must buy this Sony DVP-FX930. Oh, and one very important thing.. this player runs whisper quiet but you can move it all around and upside down and it never skips a beat! Sony even designed the removable / rechargeable 6 hour Lithium-Ion battery super thin, so it keeps this player compact and very portable. Also it charges fully in about 6 hours! Sony also supplies a very nice Car charger along with the nice A/C charger. The full function remote comes ready with batteries included, and it’s well designed similar to a TV remote for ease of use.

“Great on the go Portable DVD/CD/JPEG/MPEG Player”
I had been looking at the previous Sony model that had over 300 reviews and CNET had it as their choice in the portable DVD products in the 7″-10″ screen sizes.

I am very please with the latest Sony model, what has changed is they made the screen an inch larger and placed touch buttons on the newer model. This FX 930 looks more modern, sleek although it is a little larger.

I am very pleased as I have played various DVD’s, using full and normal settings that you can select for wide or standard screen formats. I have played many CD’s from the actual artists to my own made CD’s at home and played music files from my PC and taken along photos like a photo album when I want to share or have those close to me with me so to speak when traveling.

Sound is fine for the little speakers but 99% of the time I use really good headphones and you get two jacks so you can share when sitting with someone on a plane, train, or in the car as long as you are not driving. Had to toss that in!

It is not too heavy compared to many, certainly much less than a laptop and still small enough screen size to know you are not luggin around a laptop. Battery life is standard, I have it run out yet but have not been on pure battery for 6 hours yet either. I try to have it plugged in most of the time during use and for the car you get a car charger included in the box.

Being it is smaller it makes it more mobile for your travels whether local or abroad.

I have been using this item non-stop almost without any issues. Could it be improved, yes, almost any product can be and as with any electronics they seem to improve with almost each iteration.

With this said, you can save $30-$40 by buying the previous model. It is an inch smaller but the screen resolution is the same and many of the features are almost identical.

Take it for a test drive and remember you’ve got 30 days to test it and if it is not what you like or expect, return it and try another, but choices on these products are quite limited since many use their PSP, iPhone, or iPods to watch movies/videos etc.

I’m a mother of two (6&3 yrs) who travel a few times a year. I tried the coloring books and activities in the car, but it just didn’t work. I broke down and bought this dvd player. I love it. I plays for about the six hours listed. The sound projects toward where the screen is facing so while the kids are watching it my husband and I can talk. I got the carrying case on Amazon that straps it in between seats, perfect. Plays my home dvds perfectly and endless Scooby Doo for the kids. Worth every penny.

We love this DVD player. It meets our needs perfectly. We are able to use the DVD player to allow the kids to watch movies in the car (using a carrying case that can be mounted between the two front headrests so that the kids don’t have to hold the DVD player). The Sony DVP-FX930 is a full-featured, well-designed, player with great looking picture quality and ample sound output. The battery is rectangular, about 3/8 inch high, and designed to attach to the bottom of the player. This allows the player to retain its sleek rectangular shape. The rated life of the battery is an impressive six hours, but you are more likely to get closer to five hours of use.

The nine inch high resolution screen is capable of delivering sharp and crisp images. The actual dimensions of the screen are 7.8″ wide by 4.4 ” high. The screen can rotate a full 180 degrees in the clockwise direction. Since the screen can be positioned opposite of the base, the controls are located below the screen, where they can be easily accessed in this configuration. There is only one actual button, for the ‘Enter’ function, and it can be a pain to operate. The other controls are touch pads in a depressed concave band that runs across the display, just above the speakers. The controls are quite sensitive, and easy to operate with the tip of a finger, but being a bit recessed into the face, getting your finger to the surface sometimes takes a little effort. Fingernail contact works, but not as well. While you can jump scenes, forward or backward, you can’t fast forward or fast reverse, using the controls on the unit, which is definitely inconvenient. Pressing the screen may not be what many are used to, so naturally there is a remote. For better responsiveness, the player has multiple sensors. The remote control unit (RMT-D191) is full featured, although some functions the unit does not have are ‘Mute’, ‘Zoom’, and ‘Repeat A-B’. The layout of the buttons could have been designed to be more convenient, but that is not unusual. The required CR2025 battery is included.

With a set of large (for a DVD player) speakers, the level of sound produced is quite high, good for movies and concert videos. Besides standard DVD’s and CD’s, the Sony will also play burned CD’s with MP3 files, but there is no tone control, so the sound will probably be trebly. Most DVD players are really slow at displaying large JPEG files, and that is true of this one as well. There is a sideshow function, which could be more convenient, and less frustrating, than trying to scroll through images. When you pop the cover, a detent stops the disc from spinning. The player has two headphone jacks, and audio in/out and video in/out jacks. There is also a ‘Hold’ switch which locks the controls on the unit, but allows the player to still be controlled by the remote. The cooling system is outstanding, as there are no major hot spots on the housing.

Standard accessories include the remote control, AC adapter, 12V auto adapter, and AV cord. The player has a non-glossy brushed metal finish, and is available in several colors. The screen frame, and top cover where the DVD is loaded are plastic, which helps to keep the weight down, but also means the unit will be prone to scratches and wear. Recharge time using the AC cord is listed at six hours. Use of the auto adapter is recommended with the engine running. With good image quality, high volume sound, and long battery life, Sony has delivered a winner. Great for travel, just pick your color. And in case there are any problems, get it from Amazon.

Spain belongs to Region 2 and its DVD players are coded for Region 2 only. Hence, these players are able to play only Region 2 coded DVDs. At Frye’s over the weekend I saw two half shelves worth of HD-DVD software. This is only, dvd, remarkable because I had not been to an electronics, dvd, superstore recently to see such a display. I know they’ve been out for weeks or a month or, dvd, a I don’t care.
The HD-DVDs were grouped at the end of the anime section just before the nature and historical videos. I can’t, dvd, remember the first weeks or months of DVD’s launch but, dvd, it was probably just as pathetic (I remember only seeing Eraser and Twister DVDs for a year before I cared about DVD as a source of entertainment). The discs were packaged in the same clam cases as normal DVDs, the “HD-DVD” banner at the top was the only tip-off. Blockbuster!/must buy! titles included: Rumor Has It, The Chronicles of Riddick, Van Helsing, Swordfish, Doom.

A bit of an upset this week, as my DVD player went the way of the dodo last weekend, so I haven’t had a chance to watch anything new. I’m not sure what happened to it, to be honest – I wish I had an exciting story about how I dropped a glass of water over it or how it made a deafening bang and sent up a plume of white smoke, but I don’t. As with a lot of electrical equipment these days, it just decided to stop working all of a sudden for no apparent reason.
