The time has come for Toshiba and Nec, the main backers of HD-DVD format to announce they’re ready for write-once HD-DVD-R disc mass production.
Their discs can store 15 GB of data, and should be available for the consumers in the, dvd, first half of the next year, by the same time that HD-DVD recorders and PC drives will be also on the market.
As we all know, HD-DVD fights in a tight competition with Blu-ray for the “format of, dvd, the future” title, that also means a multibillion dollar market as a price for the winner.
Similar blue laser technology stays at the core of both formats, as the blue laser has a shorter wavelength than the red lasers used in current DVD equipment, allowing discs to store data at higher densities needed for high-definition TV and movies.
The advantage that HD-DVD-R disc has over its main competitor, the Blu-ray disc is it has the same disc structure as the classic DVD and thus can be manufactured, dvd, by using the same production lines. This, for the DVD manufacturers, means they can start HD-DVD-R mass production at full speed, right away, with not much additional cost. A replacement stamper is needed of course and the old dye must be replaced with blue-light sensitive, resin dye. The new dye was developed in a joint project of Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media/Verbatim and Toshiba Corporation.
But at the same time, Blu-ray competitor has its own advantages, like superior storing capacity. Toshiba claims it works at this aspect also, but moving from single-layer discs that are written at 1x speed, to dual-layer 30GB discs could take several years, its spokespersons said. In today’s modern market place, there are lots of formats, dvd, for optical digital media storage, ranging from the venerable CD-ROM, and “super secret compression algorithms” to HD-DVD and BluRay, including the inevitable DVD-R and HD-DVD-RW formats.

Digital optical media formats have their specifications set by working groups,, dvd, which are made up of engineers representing various manufacturers who intend to build and sell the hardware, and usually, dvd, each manufacturer has some sort of technology they’ve developed that they want included in the specification. By making sure that their, dvd, preferred technology is in the specification, they get a small royalty paid on every single device sold, and, dvd, with the sales of the devices running in the hundreds of millions of units per year, every royalty – even a small one, dvd, – adds up to real money.

As a result, it’s possible to get format wars, much like there was at the dawn of the video cassette recorder, with VHS and BetaMax, dvd, . In fact, the only major media format that didn’t have a format war in recent memory is, dvd, the CD-ROM, which had its specification hammered down by Sony, who owned most of the patents involved.

When DVDs first came out, and the possibility of recording home movies came about, the format for recordable DVD media came into being – it was called the DVD-R. Trying to extend that format into read-write capabilities led to two camps, and two formats – the DVD-RW and the DVD+RW; the difference, dvd, between the two specifications literally came down to whose controller chip would be used, in terms of end user performance there’s no appreciable difference, aside from the fact that some devices had difficulty playing back media made with one or the other of the two formats. Because of its greater backwards compatibility with standard DVD-ROM drives, DVD-RW, dvd, eventually took a lead, but not the commanding one; Phillips was the first manufacturer to make a DVD device that could read and write both of the RW formats, and their hardware specification became the standard, dvd, used by the computer field.

This format war is about to play out again. High Definition TV requires a lot more information than can be packed into one DVD, so a high definition DVD drive and media format needs to be hammered out; both of these devices use shorter wavelength lasers, to inscribe smaller dots in the, dvd, recording media, mostly in the blue-green wavelengths of visible light. These two formats, called HD-DVD and BluRay, are just entering the market now, and their impact is stunning. Which one will succeed in the market place? In all likelihood, the company that will, dvd, succeed will be the one (like Panasonic) that makes a device that can read both formats. When it comes to ease of production, HD-DVDs are cheaper for film studios to press, as they’re an extension of existing CD-pressing techniques, while BluRay offers more storage space, and a longer shelf life – but is put out by Sony, which charges a larger royalty.

In the market place, it will probably be the adult entertainment industry that picks the winner,, dvd, as they’ll be the first significant volume publishers; they’re already leaning towards HD-DVD for their format of choice, and there’s already a working group working on HD-DVD-RW…which will likely, dvd, have another format war erupt, knowing how things have worked in the past.

DVD Burners are the best burnable media right now, not only for their storage size, but for their speed. DVD’s hold approximately 4.7 Gigabytes of information (that’s 4.7 billion bytes if you’re curious) which is about six times the information a CD can hold. There are also double sided DVD’s which can hold twice as much.
DVD’s also read and burn at a rate of around 1352 KBs (kilobytes per second), while CD’s burn at a default rate of 150 KBs, that’s a little over 9 times faster.
The way you get your actual speed is by multiplying the default rate by the number in front of the X. (example: with a 8x dvd burner, 8 times 1352 = 10816 Kbs, and on a 52x cd burner, 52 times 150 = 7800) DVD burners have finally surpassed CD burners in speed, and only have potential to get faster. They are currently up to 16x for some media, so you can do the math.
DVD burners right now are usually around 16×4x16x, the left number being how fast it writes to a writable (DVD+R or DVD-R etc), the center number being how fast it writes to a re-writable (DVD+RW or DVD-RW), and the number on the right being how fast it can read a DVD.
Most DVD Burners can also burn regular CD’s, making them extremely cost effective and versatile, and saving room for other devices you might need, especially if the number of slots you have available is limited.
There are so many different types of DVD media on the market, if you plan to play DVD’s in your home DVD player, you have to find out if it is compatible with burned DVD’s at all, and if so, what kind. There are several different kinds, here is a list of most of them:

Most Burners have a specific format that they use specifically, so make sure that if your burner is only able to burn -R, that you buy -R’s, or else anything else will not work. Just make sure you pay attention to the details of what you’re purchasing to get exactly what you need.

Have you been confused by the different choices available for blank cd or DVDs recently? There are so many abbreviations such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVR+R etc. So how do I know which type of cd or dvd is suitable for my use?

I will provide a brief description of the different types of blank cd and dvd currently available on the market.

For cd and dvds, the “R” that is found in CD-R or DVD+/-R stands for recordable. This means you can record data such as photos, files, database etc. Basically anything digital can be recorded. These types of cd or dvds can only be recorded once. So it’s important you record all the data you want transferred to a CD-R/DVD-R in one session.

The “RW” means the media is rewriteable. You can erase and record data on the cd or dvd multiple times. Think of it as a portable hard disk. The cost of a CD-RW and DVD-RW is more expensive more than a normal CD-R/DVD-R

One of the biggest confusion comes about because of DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. What is the difference? In a nutshell, there is no major difference except the standards were created by 2 different organisations. It is however important to know whether dvd burner supports them. Most dvd burners support both formats but make sure you check with the dvd manufacturer or the manual about the types of dvd formats that are supported.

There’s another type of dvd format known as DVD-RAM and it is not as common as the other 2 formats. Again, make sure to check your dvd manual to ensure you can use this format.

DVD media can typically hold up to 4.7 GB of data whereas CD media can hold up to 700 MB. As a result, dvd media are usually more expensive than CD media since it can hold more data.

There also a new type of media called dual-layer and it can store twice the size of a normal . However, it is pretty expensive at this time and most current burners do not support this format.

This is a basic explanation of the more common types of CD/ media on the market. Regardless of which media you use, it is important to make sure your CD or burner support that format.

DVD-R Discs are single write only – this implies that once data or video is written on to the disc, it will not be possible to erase and re-write the disc. Since DVD-R technology is becoming more commonplace, DVD-R discs are becoming easier to find and progressively cheaper.
There are two types of DVD-R discs: DVD-R for general use and DVD-R for authoring. Most consumers who have recordable DVD drives use DVD-R(G) discs. DVD-R(A) discs are typically used on professional burners and are more expensive. The two DVD-R discs are not mutually compatible, meaning that a DVD-R(A) writer will not write to a DVD-R(G) disc. However, these discs are readable in most DVD players and drives.
The capacity of standard single-sided, single-layer DVD-R discs is 4.37GB. It is also possible to get a double-sided, single-layer DVD-R disc with a capacity of 8.75GB. However, this requires the user to flip the disc halfway through the burning process. Manufacturers have developed double-layer discs that hold approximately twice the capacity of single-layer discs.
DVD-R discs have to be cared for the same way you would all other media that are read by a laser. DVD-R discs have powerful error correction and are therefore resistant to minor fingerprints or scratches. It is advisable that you handle DVD-R discs only at the edges or the hub. Also, DVD-R discs use light-sensitive dyes and are more prone to damage from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Different manufacturers use different colored dyes in the recording layer of DVD-R discs. The color generally has no effect on the quality of the disc. Some clear and dark blue dyes tend to last longer than others. However, more than color, you should pay greater attention to the manufacturer of discs you choose to purchase.

台湾製という事で、たぶん製造元はCMCのはずです。OEMというよりも製造委託品に近いものだった記憶があるんですよね。
だもんでドライブとの相性はちょっとキツイものの、相性さえよければけっこう良い感じに焼けて計測結果も悪くないはずです。

1190円という値段ですが、メディアの通販会社だともう少し安いところもあるんですが、送料やポイントを使えるとなるとAmazonのほうが安い可能性ありです。

ちなみにプリンタブルですがシルバーレーベルになってるんで真っ白なレーベルじゃないとダメという人は要注意です。

その中でもこのバッファローDVSM-SL20FB-BKは5100円と特別安いわけではないんですけど、中身は焼きに定評があるパイオニアのDVR-116みたいなんですよ。
メーカーのサイトでは製造元の表記は無いんですが、ファームのアップデートのページにパイオニアDVR-116の表記がありますｗ

この前買ったアイオーのドライブは中身がソニーNECオプティアーク製のAD-7203Aというドライブで、これもなかなか良いんですけど、もう3480円で売ってないんですわｗ

It seems like every other e-mail I get now is a new product from JVC media. Considering the proven media from TY I’m intrigued – I find it highly unlikely that it’s a run-of-the-mill media with luke warm recording and printing. The last big announcement from TY was silver water shield in 2008 Q4 – looks like they’ve been busy.

“New Inkjet” isn’t standard CD-R and DVD-R media, but it’s not Water Shield. It seems to fall somewhere in between. A slight premium from the standard A-grade printable media but not the full fledged Water Shield. I’ve got a case on order, I’ll have a product review shortly.

Well, today i got this very annoying error from Disk Utility, when trying to burn an image to a Intenso DVD+R DL.

I don’t know what called this error or why even Toast trying to burn the image showed it up, but i fixed it the following way:

go to /user/library/preferences and delete com.apple.finder.plist

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, FINDER WILL BE RESET THROUGH THAT!

Now restart Finder and try burning your media again, it should work!

Bem, nesse video tutorial ensinarei a inserir um audio em um DVD que, por exemplo, não tenha audio em português, mantendo os menus ORIGINAIS, isso mesmo krinha. =D

Eu uso o filme “DE VOLTA PARA FUTURO”, no tutorial como exemplo, mantendo o audio inglês e substituindo pelo português, audio que foi redublado.

Pra quem ñ está inteirado do assundo, esse é um dos tutoriais mais desejados. Esse é o uns dos trabalhos q devem ser feitos, quando se baixar algum Dvd-iso de sites como: www.asiandvdclub.org
P/ começar, vocês precisam ter o seguinte material:

AUDIO EM AC3 – sim o audio já deve estar encodado em AC3 com a extenção .ac3 com os seguintes requisitos: audio em 5.1 ou surround – 384kbps, audio estereo ou mono – 192kbps

**o audio já deve estar sincronizado com o DVD ou pelo menos com o arquivo ripado dele**

Se estiver tendo problemas c/ a sincronização dos audio e vídeos, leia essse tutoriais e vídeos que explicam muita coisa, bem completos!

先日誘電OEMのビクターがなんと980円！なんていうエントリーを書いたばっかりですが、同じエイヤーメディアという楽天のショップでまたまた特価品あり。

今度はTDKの8倍速がこれまた980円！

TDKの激安品といえばインド産ばっかりなのがだ、これは台湾のCMC社製への委託品。
スタンパも色素もTDKの持ち込みでCMCが委託生産しているというやつで、質的ににはたぶん三菱と同じくらいの感じじゃないかと。

とはいえCMCなんでドライブの相性次第では微妙な事になりやすいですが、パイオニア系だとかなり良い感じに焼けるという情報ですよマジで！

近所にある24時間営業のディスカウントショップでTRIALという店があるのだが、ぶっちゃけ小規模なドンキホーテみたいなもんで夜中に急にDVD-Rメディアが必要になったときにちょくちょく利用させてもらってたわけですよ。

以前はTRIALオリジナルブランドのメディアがあって中身がギガストレージ社のもので焼き品質が良く、かなり重宝していたんですがその後オリジナルブランドは販売停止。

最近店に行ったらEASTというブランドのものが268円で売られていたので試しに購入。早速テストしてみました。

ん〜〜　案の定ライテック製のメディアでしたｗ
ごく普通のライテックな焼き上がりで、PIEエラーは多めPIFも微妙という事でデータ受け渡しや焼き捨てには十分かなと思いますけど、保存用にはちょっと怖くて使えないなぁって感じ。

正直なところ268円でもちょっと買いたくないなぁ。

さっき知人からメールが来て、楽天内のショップで誘電OEMのビクターDVD-Rが980円だよ！との事で、さっそくチェック。

あまり見かけない感じのメディアなのだが、一応日本製という事なんで誘電OEMに間違い無いと思う。それに8倍速で質もけっこう良いんじゃないかと。

一般ユーザーはレーベル面が真っ白なプリンタブルを好む傾向なのだが、これはシルバーレーベルという事でそれで安めに設定されてるのかな？それとも目玉商品なのかよくわからんですが、とりあえず試しにってことで2個発注ｗ

明日まで1500円以上送料無料との事なんで、試しに使ってみたい人は早めにどうぞ！
