The time of waiting is over. Today I started to upload the first Videos of the game.
I finished the GDI campaign faster as I thought and I start right now to capture the gameplay for the Brotherhood of NOD. I think that I have the NOD campaign ready after the last video of GDI is up.

I must admit that I was very disapointed about the cutscenes sometimes. Lets find out why. 

Cutscenes and CD-Roms

I was disapointed about the fact that the cutscenes they made for the game are too short and lots of informations were missing about the plot. I am sure they would have added longer cutscenes to the game if they had the chance to burn it on a DVD and not on a ordinary CD-Rom. Sure, the First Decade Edition features a Bonus Disk with additional informations about the making of the cutscenes for Tiberian Sun, but its still not enough. A special edition for Tiberian Sun would be nice. A directors cut by Dave that shows how he wanted the cutscenes to be: In full lenght, without having any scenes cut out. Maybe I should start a petition to get this directors cut. The Directors Cut for C&C Tiberian Wars was awesome and I want to have the same for Tiberian Sun, even when this game is near 10 years old. But it will be just a never granted wish in the end and it is better not to complain about it.

I just resolved my disappearing Optical drive problem by resetting my BIOS settings to default. It worked on my HP Pavilion tx1327 cl. Try it and see if it works for your model.

La nueva gama de unidades ópticas reciben el nombre de eTDU108 y se conecta a través de puerto USB. Toman la energía necesaria para su funcionamiento del propio ordenador. Los discos se cargan desde una bandeja en la parte superior.

Los usuarios que no pueden instalar software en su equipo encontrarán en el producto de Lite-On una solución tipo parche, pero efectiva. eTDU108 lee discos DVD Rom a un máximo de 8x, discos de doble capa y regrabables a 6x y CDs a 24x. Una velocidad muy modesta, pero normal al tratarse de un aparato externo. Debe tenerse en cuenta también que la conexión vía USB no garantiza la continuidad en la transferencia de datos. Así que, en ese sentido, es posible que en algún momento la reproducción, o peor aún, la grabación, se vea interrumpida.

Por otra parte, las bazas de eTD108 no se basan en la amplitud y potencia de sus prestaciones, sino más bien en su reducido tamaño y en su coste económico. La unidad no llega los 300 gramos y se comercializará a partir de julio por 40 euros. Al principio se encontrará disponible en blanco y negro, aunque es posible que con posterioridad aparezcan modelos de otros colores.

My laptop came with a lightscribe enabled CD/DVD-RW drive. After I switched to Ubuntu I set about looking for a program that would allow me to burn labels to my discs. It took a lot of digging and several tries to find a solution that worked, so I’ll share it with you.

First, we need the lightscribe driver that allows your computer to talk with the hardware. Download it and install as you would any other .deb.

Next, we need the labeling software. After trying a few different programs I’ve settled on the LaCie labeler (download). It’s only available in .rpm format, so after it’s downloaded we’re going to need to do a little terminal work.
To convert a .rpm to a .deb, we need a program called alien:
sudo apt-get install alien
Now we can use alien to run the conversion:
cd ~/Desktop
sudo alien -k 4L-1.0-r6.i586.rpm
A .deb package will appear on the desktop and you can install it normally.

Cool, now we have our labeler installed. Just a quick test to insure everything’s ready to go, and you can start burning labels.
Run the labeler:
gksudo 4L-gui
The gksudo is important because printing disks requires root access. Watch your terminal: if, like for me, it starts to whine about libstdc++.so.5, you need to install one more thing:
sudo apt-get install libstdc++5

Finally, we need to add an icon to the applications menu so we can open the labeler easily. Right click on the applications menu and choose “edit menu”. Pick a submenu to place it (I chose graphics but it’s really up to you) then click “new item.” Think up a snappy name and enter “gksudo /usr/4L/4L-gui” in the command box. Hit close and then exit out of the menu editor.

Now you’re ready to start burning labels! A few hints to make your labeling as smooth as possible:

1. Lightscribe discs are specially coded so that they always start burning in the same place. If your label isn’t quite as dark as you want, just burn it again right over the existing label- it will line up perfectly.

2. Don’t leave lightscribe discs out in the sun or in excessive heat or they may fade. Because of the heat generated by computers, it may not be a good idea to use lightscribe for discs that are going to be sitting in your computer for long times, like music cds or dvds: nothing bad will happen to them except fading, though.

3. You can use any picture you want for a label but remember it’s grayscale only and the resolution isn’t great, so it’s best to use as simple an image as possible.

4. Hewlett-Packard (the kind corporate folks who make lightscribe) has a massive amount of disc designs for you to download free of charge in their Ideas and Design Center. Pick a theme pack and download the linux version, which is essentially a collection of image files that fit on a disc perfectly. Très magnifique!

PENGERTIAN OPTICAL DEVICES

Optical Devices adalah perangkat penyimpanan yang menggunakan alat baca/tulis berupa optik. Media penyimpanannya berupa piringan CD/ DVD. Biasanya interface datanya melalui kabel IDE atau SATA namun ada juga yang sudah dikonversi menjadi USB pada external optical drive.

MENGAPA MEMBUTUHKANNYA?
Lalu mengapa kita membutuhkan optical drive?

Pada proses instalasi, kita membutuhkan sebuah media untuk memulai booting komputer yang belum memiliki sistem operasi.
Untuk beberapa master software, kita membutuhkan data yang read only / tidak dapat dirubah / termodifikasi oleh sistem lain.
Pada zamannya, untuk pertukaran data menggunakan kepingan CD/DVD lebih praktis daripada harus membawa hardisk.
Kita membutuhkan backup data yang aman. Pada penyimpanan di hardisk, kita masih terancam kehilangan data karena rusaknya hardisk akibat bad sector atau faktor lain, ancaman virus yang seringkali merusak data pada hardisk, atau modifikasi data oleh orang lainyang menemukan file kita secara sengaja atau tidak sengaja.

MACAM-MACAM OPTICAL
Macam-macam optical devices antara lain:

CD-ROM
CD-ROM adalah perangkat optik yang hanya dapat digunakan untuk membaca CD saja. Perangkatnya berisi optik, motor, tray,dan case. Pemilihan CD-ROM ini berdasarkan kecepatan bacanya. Pada zaman dahulu CDROM hanya memiliki keccepatan baca 1x, 2x, 4x, 12x, namun kini CD-ROM telah mampu melakukan pembacaan hingga 56x.

CD-RW
CD-RW adalah perangkat yang mampu melakukan pembacaan dan penulisan terhadap CD. Artinya kita dapat menyimpan data kedalam sbuah CD blank. CD-RW biasanya memiliki 3 variable yaitu write/rewrite/read. Misal CD-RW 52x/32x/52x berarti perangkat tersebut memiliki kemampuan tulis 52x, kemampuan menulis ulang/menindih 32x, dan kemampuan baca 52x.

DVD-ROM
DVD-ROM adalah perangkat optik yang mampu membaca CD dan DVD. Bedanya dengan CD adalah DVD berisi data lebih banyak, yaitu + 4,5 GB. Kecepatan baca DVD hingga kini masih 16x, namun DVD-ROM mampu membaca CD hingga 52x.

DVD-Combo
DVD-Combo adalah perangkat yang memiliki gabungan fungsi 2 macam perangkat yaitu DVD-ROM dan CD-RW. Kemampuannya yaitu dapat membaca CD dan DVD, serta mampu menulis pada keping CD.

DVD-RW
DVD-RW merupakan perangkat tercanggih di kelas optical drive masa kini. Perangkat ini dapat melakukan pembacaan DVD dan CD serta mampu melakukan penulisan pada CD dan DVD. Kecepatan penulisan DVD hingga kini masih 16X saja.

та скомпілювати:

gcc -o speedcontrol speedcontrol.c

а потім скопіювати файл speedcontrol в /usr/bin :

sudo cp /home/$USERNAME/speedcontrol /usr/bin

і після цього всього можна змінювати швидкість

sudo speedcontrol -x8 /dev/cdrom
sudo speedcontrol -x0 /dev/cdrom

п.п.с: команди приведені таким чином, що їх потрібно виконати просто одна за одною в терміналі. speedcontrol.c після виконання всіх команд можна буде вилучити з вашої домашньої теки
п.п.п.с: в мене цей спосіб перестав працювати в Ubuntu 9.04, шукаю заміну.

Tonight, as I was driving home, I was inspired by a song on my iPod. I couldn’t wait to get back to my computer and type this thought out. I guess my computer had a different plan in mind.

Recently, I’ve had my computer stop recognize my DVD-Rom, it won’t burn discs, and some programs just don’t work.

Tonight was one of those nights were certain programs didn’t work. I just got fed up enough and I restored the entire thing. Now, I’m bare minimum and have a fresh, clean slate. All of my pictures/files/etc were all stored on an external hard drive, so I didn’t mind the reboot.

It’s finally working again properly, but it’s also very very late. I’ll post what I had to say tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m sleepy…and want to settle down for some sleep.
