Een vinding uit de oude doos, maar dan opgepoetst. Die gedachte schoot door me heen toen ik de ‘nieuwe’ Pedal-A-Watt zag. De zoektocht van de mens naar schone en vernieuwbare energie is weer eens bij de fiets uitgekomen. Hang je vélo in de Pedal-A-Watt, trap er als een gek ventje op los, laat een soort van dynamo meelopen en zie daar: elektriciteit! Met elke trapbeweging produceer je stroom. En je krijgt er tegelijkertijd een goede conditie van. Omdat je het er ook warm van krijgt, gaat ook je gasrekening voor de verwarming omlaag!

Ook tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd er met een fiets elektriciteit geproduceerd.

De oude fiets van opa
In de Tweede Wereldoorlog kenden ze het principe van de Pedal-A-Watt ook al. In die tijd werd zoon- of dochterlief op de oude fiets van opa gezet (denk aan de blokken op de pedalen!). De dynamo werd op de band gezet en fietsen maar! Via een stroomdraadje was de dynamo verbonden met een klein peertje aan het plafond. Elke trapbeweging zorgde voor een flikkerend lichtje. Zo werd het ’s avonds in oorlogstijd toch een beetje licht. Als zoon- of dochterlief moe werd, trad onmiddellijk de duisternis is.

Twee uur fietsen, twee uur televisie
De Pedal-A-Watt van het Amerikaanse Convergence Technologies wijkt in dit laatste af van zijn voorganger. De met fietsen opgewekte elektriciteit kun je namelijk opslaan in een zogenoemd ‘power pack’. Deze accu geeft op het moment dat de gebruiker het wil zijn stroom af. Een uurtje fietsen zorgt er zo voor dat je acht uur lang een lampje kunt laten branden. Twee uur in de pedalen staat gelijk aan twee uur televisie. In die tijd kun je er ook voor zorgen dat je laptop twintig uur zonder netspanning kan functioneren. Je kunt er trouwens ook voor kiezen om – precies zoals in de oorlog – de energie meteen te gebruiken om een elektrisch apparaat aan te drijven.

Vrijwel elke fiets is geschikt om te gebruiken in combinatie met de Pedal-A-Watt. Je zet je tweewieler in een oogwenk in de standaard. En daarna kun je jezelf al in het zweet gaan werken. O ja, de Pedal-A-Watt is niet goedkoop. Je kunt ‘m bestellen in de Verenigde Staten. Inclusief transportkosten en een accu komt het ding op zo’n vijfhonderd euro.

RAMfest IV, will take place on the weekend of 26- 28 February 2010, at Nekkies Holiday Resort, Worcester.

It’s time once again to journey headlong into the crazy-wonderful world of RAMfest.  After what was certainly one of the most memorable events in Cape Town in 2009, 2010 is set to be the Year of the Spectacular. Audiomatik Events has secured a phenomenal line up, including Pendulum from Australia, Johnny Foreigner from the UK and top SA acts including Fokofpolisiekar, Taxi Violence, Jack Parow and The Dirty Skirts. RAMfest is also proud to present performances by much loved bands that have not performed in SA for a while: Boo!; Lark and The Narrow.

There has been a bit of a spruce up and spring clean and the furniture has been moved around a bit at Nekkies Holiday Resort, creating a smashing new site layout. When you get here, it should feel beautifully brand new and reassuringly familiar all at the same time.

The brainchild of Sassquatch (co-creator of the Sovereign Academy) every Dynamo is powered by a dedicated team of musicians, DJs, designers, animators, illustrators and stuff-makers and brought to life by the small army of robots that flood the dancefloor. With a heavy emphasis on elaborate decor, live lighting and video performance and fun dresscodes based around variations on the robot theme, Dynamo sets its sights on pushing the envelope on event design further than any other series of South African parties has done before.
Now Dynamo is taking the robot apocalypse on the road for a single night of mechanical mayhem at this year’s RAMfest. With the Redbull Van as a platform for constructing “ROBO-RAM!” RAMfest’s first dress up, get down and tear it apart robot after-party!
When the bands are over go back to your tent and transform into the cyborgs we all know you are and come rock out to Yesterday’s Pupil, Sassquatch and Richard The Third who will power you up with their disco-punk-electro-rock sets.

RAM is a full weekend camping excursion, bring your tents caravan’s and camping gear.It is HOT that time of the year bring extra shade i.e Gazebo’s stretch tents, sun hats, umbrellas.    Uma notícia bombástica para o mundo bruxo, enquanto a Academia passava por um período turbulento, uma queda drástica no número de bruxos residindo na mesma, o Ministro aparentemente insatisfeito resolveu tomar uma medida drástica.
   Após a renúncia da então diretora da Academia, Francine Oblivyadora, que todos dizem ser pela idade da mesma, que está um pouco elevada para os padrões de diretora, e a ausência de sua assistente, a vice-diretora Lia Austen, o Ministro resolve contratar uma nova diretora, ao invés de eleger uma de sua rede escolar, ele simplesmente importou de outro país (será?).
   A nova diretora Lyzandra Strauss, chegou marcando seu território, segundo Ryan Villadesko, primeiranista da casa Deltio, que se pronúnciou sobre a posse da diretora, que se mostrava séria e autoritária.
   Uma Boa-Vinda do Jornal Arcaico para a Nova Reitora, e que tudo se organize na instituição, para que a mesma possa voltar a ter os picos de antes, e se torne mais uma vez, a melhor escola de magia.
   A nova diretora, ainda da uma prévia sobre as mudanças que acontecerão, entre elas, o quadro de professores deve ser reformulado, assim como o horário destinado as aulas, e o compromisso de alguns professores e funcionários da escola.
   Voltando a demissão da nossa Querida Diretora Francine, alguns dizem ser pela alta idade possuída pela mesma, outros dizem que é apenas umas férias, outros já comentam, que ela teria recebido ameaças de alguma nova força oculta, ou até mesmo, disseram que a voz sexy e exuberante dela, falhou…. Se bem que é meio improvável.

If you ride at night, you need lights. For an energy source, your options once were limited to batteries, dynamo, or Dynohub. Now we can include the Sun! Dynamo’s and dynohubs are great because your light is human powered, just like your bike. This is fantastic! The only problem is that in order to retrofit a bike with a Dynohub you either have to have it laced to your front rim, or buy a whole new wheel.

If you want to go the dynamo route, you have to take on some friction while you ride.  Also If you just need lights on your road bike for an evening ride dynamos are not very practical. When you go for that fast ride on the weekends do you want the extra weight of a dynohub or the extra friction of a dynamo? Most riders choose the battery powered lights when decision time comes.
Batteries can be grouped into the groups “rechargeable” and “not rechargeable“. The rechargeable ones suck energy from your wall (unless you have one of these) and the “not rechargeable” batteries go right to the recycle bin (or trash!) so you can go buy new ones.

Now there is another option. Cateye has come out with a light that is solar powered! Just in case, it has a backup battery, but from reading the description you can get 6 hours of light time (flashing) on a fully charged solar battery! The only issue I see with this is that in order to charge it, one must ride with it during the day, or leave it out in the sun during the day. That’s a small price to pay in order to light your way using the power of the sun.

You can go to Cateye’s site to read more about it. They say it is available in October, so you should be able to get one now. They are $60, which I believe to be very reasonable.

   A Diretora da Academia Dynamo, Francine Oblivyadora, nos concedeu uma entrevista, onde ela explica, o motivo dessa renovação e as mudanças que ocorreram. Veja a Entrevista:
 
J. Arcaico: Porque vocês resolveram fazer essa renovação?
Francine Oblivyadora: Pelo fato da ausência constante de alguns professores, sem quaisquer comunicados a direção.
 
J. Arcaico: Esses professores que foram retirados de seus cargos, já tem substitutos?
Francine Oblivyadora: Estamos trabalhando na contratação de novos professores.
 
J. Arcaico: O que as pessoas prescisam fazer para se tornarem professores?

Francine Oblivyadora: Os interessados devem encaminhar um projeto de aula para franreuters@gmail.com ,  ou agendar um horário para uma aula teste.
 
J. Arcaico: E se os professores demitidos, quiserem retornar a seus cargos?
Francine Oblivyadora : Os professores que foram demitidos, podem também recorrer enviando uma solicitação com motivo de tais ausências, caso seja um motivo plausível o mesmo poderá ser recontratado.
 
J. Arcaico: Essas pessoas deveram ser formadas?
Francine Oblivyadora : Bom, em último caso, alunos com bom desempenho em sua aula teste, poderam sim ser contratados, e seram avaliados pelo Ministério da Magia.
 
J. Arcaico: Existem várias pessoas formadas que estão desempregadas. Porque a Direção da Não, não os convidam para uma aula teste?
Francine Oblivyadora: Muitos dos desempregados estão nesta situação por opção, ou por não terem comprido com suas tarefas, sendo assim estão na condição de desempregados, porém, os interessados estejam à vontade para se candidatar aos cargos.

Song of the Day: Christopher Denny “Time”

Everyone loves a good intro video before a sporting event with badass music and footage to get you fucking amped up and in the mood to punch babies like Steve Smith. The Cougars have a great one this year and Sumlin makes the team an intro video for every opponent that makes me spontaneously ejaculate every time I watch them. But even Sumlin has nothing on Alaskans. Alaska is known for oil spills, glaciers, salmon, and bears… and now amazing intro videos. Actually, its not even the whole state of Alaska, just the city of Fairbanks, remind me to avoid Fairbanks when traveling to Alaska. They must have a HUGE bear problem, and I’m not scared of much, but bears are on my list. My dad kills bears with his bear hands (see what I did there?), but I don’t like the fear of getting mauled or worse. I mean look at what the University of Alaska Fairbanks mascot will do to you.

That bear will fucking chase you through space with a fucking hockey stick, and then destroy not only you, but your entire city! I want none of that! The Fairbanks Grizzly’s will not be out done with their intro video

Holy Shit! How do these people, still have a city in Fairbanks???? They have Giant pick axe wielding grizzly bears in addition to space traveling polar bears! I didn’t even know that bears had the opposable thumbs to grasp axes and hockey sticks.

Houston Texans: Are facing the surprise Bengals team with a rejuvenated Cedric Benson. I am torn, on the one hand I want the Texans to win, on the other hand I want Kubiak to be fired, because he did a good job of making everyone believe he was going to cover the over last week by calling that TAINT that Shaub threw, but then fucked us in the ass by not scoring on the 1 yard line, and then not getting the safety. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SCORE 1 POINT YOU BASTARD, AND I COVERED MY BET, YOU DIDN’T EVEN HAVE TO WIN! FUCK YOU KUBIAK, I HOPE A BEAR EATS YOUR TESTICLES! Anyway, maybe if the Texans had this guy on defense they could have stopped the Cards in the endzone and also given them nightmares afterwards.

Houston Dynamo: Is Dynamo singular like the Green Wave or plural like the word moose? Anyway, David Beckham is coming to town on Sunday for the first time. It’s Sunday, the day god intended for fantasy football, so I don’t care, but I heard some of you are gay like soccer, so there you go. If anything exciting happens I guess we’ll find out in 9 months when Victoria Beckham has a child named Houston.

Rice Owls: It’s bad when in the middle of October the main headline on the chron.com page is already looking forward to basketball season. The owls are 0-6 and making me plenty of money this year, I heard they were thinking about dropping down to 4A next year.

Houston Cougars: I am going to start off this blurb like Scampi would. The winless in C-USA Cougars, are traveling to Tulane this weekend. No one in New Orleans, including our own fans will have any idea this game is taking place as they will all be enthralled with boobs, beads, boobs, beer, boobs, and betting on stuff, which is pretty much all there is to do in New Orleans… What a boring town.

  Vejam o Desabafo que o ministro fez para todos os frequentadores da Academia Dynamo.

  “Eu me sacrifico por vocês, e é assim que me retribuem?”

  Na noite desta terça-feira 13/10/2009, o Ministro Eder Walkis, causou espanto nos membros que estavam na academia, ao se estourar, e jogar a bomba para que todos tomassem conhecimento.
  O ministro após receber muitas reclamações sobre brigas, regulamento, regras e outras coisas mais. Decidiu que era hora de finalizar as intrigas, e com um breve e direto discurso, surpreendeu a todos, desabafando em pleno Salão Principal. Eis as palavras de nosso querido Ministro:

  “Quero falar com todos de uma só vez!”
  “Todos sabem da dedicação que eu sempre tive por isso aqui… e muita mesmo não só por tempo, mas para resolver problemas, brigas e até mesmo financeira (gasto + – 200 reais anuais pra manter tudo aqui).
  Agora se toda vez eu tiver que entrar aqui e tiver que ficarem ouvindo problemas bestas, brigas idiotas e coisas q não levam a nada… Por favor.
  Vocês todos tem maturidade o suficiente pra resolverem seus problemas com dignidade.
  Eu sei que algumas coisas tem acontecido q não são agradáveis, por pessoas q deviam dar exemplo.
  Mas não se preocupem que isso resolverei em breve.
  Agora eu só peço uma coisa… que mantenham o nível e maturidade que eu sei, que cada um de vocês tem.
  Se não, não vale a pena tudo o que faço pra isso aqui funcionar.
  Eu realmente espero que este clima melhore.
  Eu tenho alguns planos de mudança pra AD toda… que são poucas as pessoas que sabem.
  E poucas saberão (pelo menos por enquanto)
  Mas se eu não vir mudança de atitude do povo aqui.
  Eu realmente desistirei de todas as idéias.
  Tenham respeito pelas coisas, se nos colocamos regras é pra manter a ordem… Não é pra prejudicar ninguém.
  Só queremos algo que seja organizado.
  Desculpe, mas se alguém não entende isso.
  Eu peço que se retire, pois essa não sabe viver em comunidade como uma pessoa decente.
  Por favor, mesmo pessoal, vamos manter o clima amigável que sempre tivemos aqui.
  Chega de brigas idiotas, confusões por coisas atoas.
  Porque eu não quero ter que ficar recebendo reclamação desse tipo.
  Se tiver algum problema com certa pessoa, resolve com ela.. E em particular.
  Se não realmente, terá medidas extremas pessoal, ou banir pessoas que estão fazendo isso, ou até mesmo acabar com tudo de uma vez.
  Eu espero que realmente tomem a decisão mais coerente
  Porque, isso aqui não é fácil de ser mantido… Nem um pouco.
  Agora ter que ficar preocupado com essas coisas, ai não da mais não, de verdade!
  Se todos concordarem e se esforçarem pra manter a ordem.
  Se todos se apoiarem e se ajudarem, nos vamos pra frente com dignidade, respeito e o melhor de tudo, como uma família de verdade.
  Então eu peço a todos, de coração, vamos realmente fazer valer a pena ter isso aqui.
  Obrigado pela atenção!”

  Estas foram as palavras de nosso querido ministro, e gostaríamos de reforçar mais uma vez, com as palavras dele, somos todos uma família, e a Academia Dynamo, é nosso lar, mantendo a paz e a harmonia, todos podemos viver em conjunto!
