Hi, my name is Mommy and I am a Pinterest addict.

If you think about it, the people who came up with this website are genius on many levels. If you find something really cool and actually do it, you don’t credit the actual source, you credit the site that referred you to the cool idea. THAT is how to take over the world.

Pinterest is also the perfect storm of my desire to be OCD crafty, my desire to make cool recipes and bake the best treats ever and do all the super cool fun things that Moms of the year do with their kids. I waste far too much time on the site, but periodically, we some things we actually did off Pinterest (a much shorter list than the things we pin). This was one of my favorites and perfect for a day of reading.

The source of the pin I used can be found here. And it actually worked. A few tips from what I learned from this adventure:

Use a sugar cookie recipe you like. I didn’t care for the idea of adding extract, so didn’t use this recipe. The recipe I used was this one from the Food Network (especially the part about rolling in sugar – flour makes it too doughy tasting)

A great tip to have yummy, crumbly cookies – don’t overwork the dough. As soon as it has the right texture, stop mixing it. Overworked cookie dough ends up tasting flat.

Either use quality gel food coloring or don’t plan on having vibrant colors. Too much regular food coloring will end up staining your teeth and that just isn’t attractive.

When you are rolling the cookie dough out, keep in mind how big you want your cookies and how many spirals you want. I kept thinking it was too thin, but I am glad I kept it as thin as I did – I ended up with more spirals with normal sized cookies.

Freeze the cookies before you cut them. They will keep the round shape better.

Use a really sharp knife to cut the cookies. Since they are frozen, you don’t want to smudge the “look” of your cookie by having a dull knife. I started off with a regular sharp knife but quickly switched to this one.

The original recipe called for you to put the sprinkles on, then cut the cookies. Since they were frozen, I also couldn’t put the sprinkles frozen. Instead, I took the cut cookie and smooshed the cookie into a hand full of sprinkles. To my amazement, it worked!

Don’t let the cookies brown. I made this mistake. The “vibrant” cool part of the cookie looses something when it has a brown hue to it.

What are your favorite pins that you actually did?

————————————————————————–

Blogging is my own therapy. Don’t judge. Just grab a glass of wine and share your stories.

I go ALL OUT decorating for Christmas so by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around I am decorated out

I go ALL OUT decorating for Christmas so by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around I am decorated out. I throw up a heart or two, change out the flag outside and call it a day. Prior to this year I didn’t have a single St. Patty’s Day decoration. That all changed when Discovery took his good old time getting here and arrived on St. Patrick’s Day. Now we obviously have to go all out! And where do I go when looking for home decorating ideas? Why pinterest of course! And since I’m inevitably thrifty I also hit the dollar store for some surprisingly great decorations.

Behold, my fireplace and awesome banner that I found at Over The Big Moon. It was meant to be much more green but the printer was out of yellow toner so it turned out pretty blue but I love it. LOVE IT!

Here is a beautiful cake from that I would never in my wildest dreams be able to replicate.

And finally, some more very well done Free St. Patrick Day printables from Blooming Homestead.

You can find a lot more St. Patrick’s Day inspiration on our Pinterest board.

————————————————————————–

Pinterest and I have a very co-dependent relationship. No matter how inadequate it makes me feel, I

Pinterest and I have a very co-dependent relationship. No matter how inadequate it makes me feel, I just can’t quit. My latest obsession is quitebooks. They are lovely, handsown busy books.

This site has a ton of excellent ones.

I covet this not for my children so much as for myself. HOWEVER, never in a million years would I even attempt to do this. I want to but there is absolutely no way it would come out as anything other than a big ol’ mess of bloodied torn felt and broken strings.

And so Pinterest, you win again. I’m not Mommy of the Year this year, maybe I can be the next Mommy of the Year.
