Acer confirmó en Budapest que lanzará su primer móvil en febrero de 2009 y que estará basado en los desarrollos de E-Ten, compañía que absorbió el pasado mes de abril, publicó hoy El País.

La compañía, que tiene el tercer lugar en venta de computadoras en el mundo, no adelantó más detalles, pero sus ejecutivos comentaron que su producto se acercaría más a una computadora que a un móvil en el que el software tendría una gran importancia, al igual que el contar con una buena pantalla.

EL diario español dijo que los netbooks, que Acer comercializa bajo la marca de Aspire One, van a ser otra de sus grandes apuestas. La compañía dice que llegará a vender 10 millones de miniportátiles en 2008 y que llegarán a los 25 millones de unidades en 2009.

Si hace poco más de un mes os hablé de la próxima llegada del HTC Dream que contaría con el sistema Android creado por Google hoy toca hablaros de otra compañía que parece haberse decidido a tener su trozo de pastel en el cada vez más importante mercado de los smartphones. Esta vez se trata de la empresa de informática Acer, que ha decidido que empezará a comercializar su primer smartphone el próximo año 2009.

De momento no sabemos mucho de este smartphone, por no decir nada, porque ni siquiera se ha filtrado el nombre que tendrá este móvil, tan sólo que “se acerca más a un ordenador que a un móvil” y que contará con la tecnología de E-Ten, compañía recientemente absorbida por Acer.

Vediamole in dettaglio:

L’E-Ten DX900 è un PDA Phone di fascia alta caratterizzato da ottime dotazioni hardware, tra le quali spiccano lo schermo VGA (ormai consuetudine in casa per E-Ten), connettività Edgs e HSDPA, GPS, Wi-Fi e Bluetooth 2.0 e sensore fotografico da 3 Mpx. Ma ciò che lo rende veramente unico nel panorama dei dispositivi Windows Mobile evoluti è la possibilità di poter ospitare due sim contemporaneamente . Questo vuol dire due numeri di telefono nello stesso apparecchio, anche di gestori telefonici diversi. Si tratta di una caratteristiche che potenzialmente potrebbe interessare non poco noi Italiani, ormai abituati ad gestire più numeri di telefonosu altrettanti cellulari.

E-Ten has announced yet another version of its Glofiish smartphone, the X650. Based on the existing X600, the phone returns VGA resolution to a 2.8-inch touchscreen, but there no longer appears to be any sort of cellular broadband. Connection types do, however, continue to include GSM, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as a native GPS system. Other hardware in the 650 includes a 500MHz Samsung processor, 256MB of flash storage, and a 2 megapixel camera.

The phone additionally features Windows Mobile with Mobile Office, plus an FM tuner. In some regions an FM transmitter will also be built-in, but North America is likely to be excluded, as the FCC restricts the power of portable transmitters in order to prevent interference. The 650 should launch “worldwide” in black and purple colors, going to market within two to three weeks.

Acer, the world’s third largest PC vendor, has signed an agreement to buy handheld device maker E-Ten Information Systems of Taiwan.

The acquisition will put Acer in the position to market and further develop a range of handheld devices, including smartphones and GPS devices. E-Ten has developed and sold several smartphone models over the past several years, including its Windows Mobile 6.0-based Glofish smartphone with GPS (global positioning system), in addition to other handheld electronic devices such as GPS devices and pocket PCs.

The deal is an all-stock transaction valued at NT$9 billion (US$291.3 million). Acer is offering to exchange one share of its stock for every 1.07 shares of outstanding E-Ten stock to pay for the deal.

The boards of directors at both companies have already approved the deal, but they still face shareholder votes and approval by government regulators.

The companies expect the deal to close in the third quarter of this year.

Acer cited mobility products as the main reason for the purchase, especially smartphones.

“The acquisition of E-Ten will allow Acer to play a key role in the development of the dynamic, fast-evolving market of smart handheld devices as well as ultra mobile devices in the future and will help bring Acer’s cutting edge mobile solutions to an even wider audience,” Acer said in a statement.

The E-Ten deal follows a string of acquisitions by Acer, including the purchase last year of PC maker Gateway and the recent deal to buy Packard Bell, the European electronics maker.

Il sito smape.com pubblica qui un’interessante preview dei nuovi E-Ten Glofiish V900 e M810. Il giudizio riguardo ai due dispositivi è complessivamente buono. Tra le altre cose, finalmente viene fatta chiarezza sul display dell’M810, che in alcuni siti gli veniva attribuita la risoluzione VGA, mentre in realtà presenta la più modesta QVGA.
Per quanto riguarda il V900, viene apprezzata l’adozione di un processore Sansung da 533 Mhz e la memoria di 128 MB Ram e 256 MB Rom. L’intefaccia viene definita simil-touchflo. Buono il giudizio sulla videocamera.

Acer, the top three PC vendor,  announced plans to acquire E-TEN Information Systems Co Ltd, the Taiwan-based manufacturer of smart handheld devices. Under the terms of the agreement, Acer will offer a share exchange on a ratio of 1:1.07 for all outstanding shares of E-TEN, which represents a total equity value consideration of approximately 9 billion Taiwan dollars (280 million US dollars). The new issued shares will represent about six per cent of total Acer outstanding shares, Acer said in a statement.

The acquisition has been approved by the boards of directors of both Acer and E-TEN and is subject to standard closing conditions, including approval from shareholders meetings and the governmental regulators.

Acer expects the acquisition to close during the third quarter of 2008, the statement said.

The acquisition of E-TEN is in line with Acer’s expansion strategy and follows the recent acquisition of Gateway and Packard Bell, further strengthening its foothold in the fast-evolving mobile communications segment and completes Acer’s range of mobile solutions, the statement added.

‘This strategic transaction is another important milestone in Acer’s long history of innovation,’ said JT Wang, Chairman and CEO of Acer. ‘The acquisition of E-TEN increases Acer’s global footprint by giving us a strong and highly credible presence in the mobility segment.’

‘The worldwide smart phone market is estimated to grow by more than 30 per cent by 2011,’ added Gianfranco Lanci, President of Acer. ‘Acer will enhance the competitiveness in the ultra-mobile segment, by combining PC and communication technologies,’ he said.

Nel video sotto riportato vengono mostrati i nuovi prodotti sviluppati da Eten per la Serie Glofiish. Interessante ed esteticamente accattivante il V900, dotato di sintonizzatore per il digitale terrestre.
Viene mostrato inoltre l’M810, del quale abbiamo parlato nel precedente articolo. Diversamente da quanto scritto da noi, non si capisce ancora se la risoluzione dello schermo sia VGA o QVGA. Secondo PocketPCItalia.com la risoluzione è di 480×640 (VGA), mentre per SoloPalmari.com la risoluzione dello schermo è una più banale 240×320 (QVGA). Considerato che il dispositivo, secondo entrambi gli articoli menzionati, sarebbe stato sviluppato e pensato per il popolo dei blogger e dei frequentatori delle chat, riteniamo che la risoluzione VGA sarebbe la scelta migliore per questo tipo di utilizzi. Staremo a vedere.
Interessante la seconda parte del filmato, dove tutti i nuovi prodotti Eten vengono mostrati a fianco di un TyTN II di HTC.

Avevamo trascurato le news riguardanti l’M810 in quanto dalle prime indiscrezioni sembrava si trattasse di una versione QVGA dell’E-Ten M800 (tant’è che non ci spiegavamo quel 10 in più nella sigla). Visto che noi di Mytom ci occupiamo di tecnologia mobile evoluta, spesso mettiamo da parte le notizie riguardanti apparecchi che rappresentano versioni “povere” di dispositivi già in commercio.
Per quanto riguarda l’M810 abbiamo preso una cantonata.
Come si evince in questo articolo di PocketPCItalia.com, si tratta infatti di una versione stilisticamente migliorata dell’M800, con gli stessi pregi e con l’unico, pesante, difetto di avere soltanto 64 Mb di RAM.
Pertanto ritroviamo chipset GPS SiRFstar III, schermo VGA 480 x 640 da 2,8”, processore da 500 MHz, radio FM, connettività UMTS / HSDPA, la batteria da 1530 mAh e, appunto,64 MB di RAM.

Il sito SoloPalmari.com pubblica in anteprima mondiale la recensione completa dell’E-Ten Glofiish M800. Come da loro stessa ammissione non si tratta di una recensione imparziale (disponibile qui), in quanto il dispositivo oggetto della recensione viene venduto da un loro sponsor, tuttavia siamo certi della loro professionalità, tant’è che vengono puntualmente denunciati i pochi difetti emersi durante la prova. Il più grave sembra quello della presenza di alcuni bug, specificati su richiesta nei commenti al servizio, secondo noi sicuramente risolvibili con il rilascio di aggiornamenti futuri da parte del produttore. Una piacevole sorpresa è data dalla presenza dei pulsanti a sfioramento nella cover anteriore, attivabili e disattivabili tramite la doppia pressione di un pulsante hardware. Ricca la dotazione software e discretamente performante il chipset GPS.
Su Youtube è disponibile l’unboxing dell’M800 da parte di un anonimo acquirente. Riportiamo qui sotto il video, in attesa di una videoprova in italiano.

Finalmente E-Ten si è decisa sa commercializzare il tanto atteso Glofiish M800, quello che secondo molti rappresenta il più avanzato PDA Phone All-in-one in circolazione.
Il prezzo di lancio sarà di 629,00 Euro, decisamente contenuto se rapportato a quello iniziale del must HTC, il TyTN II, di ben 829,00 Euro.
Se non fosse per il sensore fotografico da “soli” due Mpx (anche se autofocus), e per l’aspetto decisamente professionale, l’M800 sarebbe semplicemente perfetto.
Tanto che, ne siamo sicuri, HTC investirà ingenti capitali per raggiungere e superare la tecnologia impiegata da E-Ten.

Ecco due brevi video contenenti una selezione di immagini live e promozionali, liberamente rintracciabili in internet, relative all’E-Ten Glofiish M800 e al Toshiba Portégé G910.

Un po’ tutti i siti di telefonia mobile hanno riportato la notizia dell’imminente presentazione al Mobile World Congress 2008 di Barcellona dei nuovissimi E-Ten V900 e M810. Del V900 abbiamo già parlato, si tratta un PDA Phone esteticamente raffinato, dotato di ottime feature tecniche: processore Samsung da 667 su tutte, ricevitore di segnali Mobile TV/Radio DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB e DAB, sensore fotografico da 3.2 Mpx. Come se non bastasse, scopriamo che la risoluzione dello schermo è VGA, ottima cosa di cui non ci stancheremo mai di lodarne l’impiego sui terminali di fascia alta.
Dell’M810 non si sa ancora molto. A naso sembrerebbe un’ulteriore evoluzione dell’M800, l’ottimo terminale business con tastiera slide qwerty, annunciato e mostrato già da diverso tempo, ma non ancora entrato in produzione. Tuttavia le caratteristiche tecniche ipotizzate per l’M810 sembrano le stesse dell’M800. Ipotizziamo che le differenze tra i due possano riguardare l’aspetto esteriore, con l’M810 che riprende le novità stilistiche introdotte con il V900 e, al limite, un aumento della ram a disposizione (da 64 a 128 MB).
Staremo a vedere.
