The MRTT has now &#8220;passed gas&#8221; (as we like to say, much to the consternation of the more straight-laced crowd) through the new flying boom from the MRTT.</p>

<p>These delayed tests have been the target of much criticism from Boeing supporters, who pointed out that EADS has been delayed in meeting milestones for the Royal Australian Air Force deliveries, which are now 18 months late. About six months of the delay was due to customer change-order requests.</p>

<title><![CDATA[KC-767 to benefit from 787 "surge" line]]></title>

<p>Boeing’s proposed KC-767 refueling tanker will benefit from plans to establish a surge production line for the 787 program.</p>
<p>The connection is not obvious, for Boeing didn’t suggest as much when it announced that Charleston (SC) will be the location for the second 787 production line. As Line 2 is being established, Boeing will put a “surge” 787 line in Everett (WA), where Line 1 is located. The surge line will be in the forward bay where the 767 line is, requiring relocating the 767 line to the aft part of the bay.</p>
<p><!--more-->Boeing plans to implement Lean production practices in the relocated 767 line, which has its origins for the airplane’s 1982 entry-into-service date. Lean practices will result in about “a 20% improvement in unit time as we increase [the production] rate and incorporate efficiencies,” a 767 program spokesperson tells us.</p>
<p>Boeing will begin to relocate the 767 line in 1Q2010; it will be operational in 1Q2011.</p>
<p>The efficiencies include:</p>
<ul>
<li>New tool designs with new technology and automation that will reduce flow, rebalance the line and improve assembly efficiencies;</li>
<li>Improving employee ergonomics;</li>
<li>New tooling to reduce the flow required to assemble the wings, which improves inventory holding costs and quality and overall costs;</li>
<li>Laser alignment in place of manual tools; and, among other things,</li>
<li>Incorporating auto-riveting and drilling to improve unit time and quality.</li>
</ul>
<p>The smaller footprint also will allow Boeing to streamline processes and consolidate support.</p>
<p>Boeing declined to quantify the before-and-after employee head count for the 767 line.  But the spokesperson said that a planned production rate increase in 2011 from one to two 767s a month will require the addition of “several hundred people in various skills.</p>
<p>“The increased efficiency means we will increase by less than we would have and build a better product. The increase in efficiency will allow us to sell even more 767s in the next few years.”</p>
<p>These benefits have clear implications for the prospect of building the KC-767 tanker should Boeing win the contract, which the USAF hopes to award in August next year (a goal we believe may be optimistic, given the political meddling that is going on). Most observers already believe a protest by the loser is likely, further delaying the contract.</p>
<p>Assuming Boeing selects the KC-767 as its choice to bid for the Air Force’s KC-X (which we think will be the case), the lower cost of building the airplane will be reflected in Boeing’s bid price, the 767 spokesperson confirms. With the competition so far emphasizing cost rather than value in the Draft RFP (Air Force rhetoric to the contrary notwithstanding), this should Boeing an additional advantage over the larger Northrop Grumman KC-30, based on the Airbus A330-200, which has a higher list price than Boeing’s 767-200ER on which the KC-767 is based.</p>
<p>The Air Force currently plans to procure its KC-X at the rate of 12-18 a year, or 1 to 1 ½ a month. The KC-X must also be what is called ITAR-compliant, which means access to military-unique equipment must be controlled during production. The new, Lean line will be prepared for ITAR requirements, says the  Boeing spokesperson.</p>
<p>Boeing faces the challenge of relocating the line while the 767 is in production.</p>
<p>“We will continue to build airplanes sections in our current tools and location during the product line relocation,” the spokesperson tells us. “This process will require a synchronized, highly sequenced series of activities to minimize disruption. Concurrently, we will be reactivating rate tools, upgrading and incorporating improvements, adding new technology and moving and building new tools as part of this relocation activity. As a standard practice, we maintain and use our existing tools until tool tryouts are complete for all-new, upgraded, reactivated and moved tools. This is how we will mitigate disruption to our active production line.”</p>
<p>Although our emphasis in this column is how Lean will aid Boeing in a KC-767 bid cost basis, the hints that Boeing may gain more 767 sales in connection with  the 787 surge should not be overlooked, either.</p>

Aber anders als Airbus oder die anderen &#8220;Großen&#8221; in der Luftfahrt sind wir ein kleiner Zulieferer. Mit 175 Mitarbeitern. Und Hauptsitz in der tiefsten Eifel. Ich bin dort der Personalleiter.</p>

<p>As empresas aéreas do Oriente Médio vão guiar a indústria de aviação global para fora da pior crise dos últimos anos, segundo afirmaram as duas maiores fabricantes de aviões do mundo, a europeia Airbus e a norte-americana Boeing. As duas companhias se mostraram otimistas durante o segundo dia do Dubai Air Show, embora tenham sido registradas poucas encomendas até agora.</p>
<p>&#8220;O Oriente Médio ainda é o centro do crescimento da aviação&#8221;, afirmou Tom Enders, executivo-chefe da Airbus. Randy Tinseth, vice-presidente de marketing da Boeing, ecoou o tom positivo de Enders, dizendo que prevê &#8220;enorme crescimento para o Oriente Médio&#8221;.</p>
<p>Fabricantes de aviões, sob pressão na Europa e nos EUA, esperam que os preços do petróleo acima de US$ 70 o barril ajudem a companhias aéreas da região &#8211; boa parte estatais &#8211; a continuar se expandindo enquanto as concorrentes internacionais são prejudicadas pela desaceleração econômica global.</p>
<p>No evento em Dubai, a Boeing informou que espera demanda por 1.710 novos aviões, no valor de cerca de US$ 300 bilhões, durante os próximos 20 anos.</p>
<p>A Airbus, que é uma unidade da European Aeronautic Defence &#38; Space (EADS), disse que a região vai precisar de 1.418 aviões de passageiros, no valor de US$ 243 bilhões, &#8220;para satisfazer a demanda acima da média mundial&#8221; no mesmo período.</p>
<p>Nos últimos anos, empresas aéreas do Oriente Médio, cujo poder de compra aumentou junto com a receita com petróleo, dominaram os eventos do setor, fazendo grandes encomendas para a Boeing e a Airbus. Mas em Dubai, os pedidos até agora foram poucos. Hoje a Airbus assinou um acordo de US$ 700 milhões, a preços de tabela, com a Yemenia Airlines por 10 jatos A320.</p>
<p>De todo modo, Airbus e Boeing estão mais otimistas com relação à situação do mercado de aviação. &#8220;Há seis meses, as pessoas falavam em adiamentos ou cancelamentos. Não estou ouvindo nada disso nesse evento&#8221;, disse John Leahy, diretor operacional da Airbus. Tinseth, da Boeing, afirmou que em 2010 haverá aumento nos níveis de tráfego. &#8220;Em 2011 devemos ver as empresas aéreas voltando à lucratividade e em 2012 esperamos ver demanda por novos aviões&#8221;, acrescentou.</p>

<p>A EADS divulgou nesta segunda-feira uma queda de 77 por cento no lucro do terceiro trimestre, ainda marcado por queda na demanda da aviação civil, efeito corrosivo de um dólar fraco e atrasos no programa A400M.</p>
<p>A empresa teve lucro antes de juros e impostos (Ebit, na sigla em inglês) de 201 milhões de euros (301 milhões de dólares) no terceiro trimestre. A empresa evitou fazer projeções para o ano, citando incertezas sobre o impacto de atrasos nos programas dos jatos A400M e A380 no quarto trimestre.</p>
<p>Analistas disseram que a posição de caixa da empresa foi uma surpresa positiva. O grupo teve uma posição de caixa líquida de 8,1 bilhões de euros até o final do terceiro trimestre, igual ao final do primeiro semestre. &#8220;A performance de caixa da empresa é fabulosa; eles merecem uma enorme quantidade de crédito por isso&#8221;, disse o analista da RBS, Sandy Morris.</p>
<p>Contudo, Morris alertou que a empresa pode enfrentar uma &#8220;grande turbulência cambial&#8221; em 2010 e que o mercado pode não ter levado em consideração o provável impacto da fraqueza do dólar sobre a EADS em 2010.</p>
<p>A EADS informou nesta segunda-feira que o enfraquecimento contínuo do dólar está &#8220;desafiando&#8221; o seu desempenho. Os preços de aeronaves são tradicionalmente em dólares.</p>

<p><strong>Former Top Procurement Official Questions KC-X Compliance with New Acquisition Law</strong></p>
<p><em>The Pentagon&#8217;s  solicitation for the KC-X aerial refueling competition is inconsistent with the  2009 Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act and may violate the law, according to  a former top federal procurement officer.</em></p>
<p><em>That critique, by  Robert Burton, a former deputy administrator of the Office of Federal  Procurement and Defense Department veteran, comes as a powerful lawmaker and a  key architect of the recently enacted weapon systems acquisition reform law &#8212;  Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) &#8212; is raising questions about whether the KC-X draft  request for proposals, issued on Sept. 25, complies with the new  act.</em></p>
<p><!--more-->In an October 19 letter obtain by Inside Defense, Burton writes that the DRFP is &#8220;inconsistent&#8221; with the Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act of 2009 by failing to &#8220;provide for trade-offs between cost, schedule. and performance&#8230;.&#8221; This is &#8220;clearly inconsistent with the intent of the law and Congress&#8217; desire to maximize competition and minimize risk.&#8221;</p>
<p>Burton goes on to write the the USAF is &#8220;inviting significant risk&#8221; by conducting a 15-year fixed price competition. He calls it &#8220;highly unlikely&#8221; that the presumed offerers, Boeing and Northrop Grumman, will submit bids that will be within 1% of each other&#8211;a key parameter in the RFP&#8211;thereby awarding the contract to the smaller airplane &#8220;with minimal capabilities.&#8221; Although Burton doesn&#8217;t say so, this clearly suggests Boeing&#8217;s KC-767 will be the winner.</p>
<p>Burton cites Section 201 of the WSARA is applicable in which &#8220;trade-offs among cost, schedule and performance are considered as part of the requirements process.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>More on WTO</strong></p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Lexington Institute&#8217;s Loren Thompson published<a href="http://www.lexingtoninstitute.org/tanker-wars-why-boeing-thinks-subsidies-matter?a=1&#38;c=1129"> this piece</a> about &#8220;Why Boeing thinks subsidies matter,&#8221; prompting <a href="http://www.lexingtoninstitute.org/northrop-expert-rebuts-lexington-tanker-brief?a=1&#38;c=1171">this rebuttal</a> from a consultant to Northrop.</p>
<p>After Thompson published his piece supporting inclusion of the preliminary WTO ruling that Airbus improperly benefited from subsidies, we emailed Thompson asking why he continually ignores Article 23 of the WTO rules that prohibit self-help before the case is finalized (the issue addressed in the Northrop rebuttal). Thompson did not respond (not atypical, by the way).</p>
<p>We have maintained from the day the WTO Interim Report was issued that while Boeing and its supporters believe the finding that Airbus <em>violated WTO rules</em> should be considered by the USAF, Article 23 prevents this and to do so would <em>violate WTO rules.</em> That the final report rarely changes is academic (and the operative word here in any event is &#8220;rarely;&#8221; this doesn&#8217;t mean &#8220;never&#8221;). If Boeing and its supporters are sticklers for the rules on the one hand, they can&#8217;t ignore the rules on the other.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ve also maintained that if the USAF changes its collective mind and decided the Interim Report finding will be considered (Article 23 notwithstanding), we&#8217;ve said doing so in the absence of the pending WTO findings in the EU case against Boeing subsidies will generate a protest from Northrop should Boeing get the contract. Every observer, including some inside Boeing, believe the WTO will uphold some of the EU complaints against Boeing.</p>
<p>We may not have much longer to wait for the WTO Boeing Interim Report. We are getting indications that the report may be issued before the end of the year. (The operative words are &#8220;indications&#8221; and &#8220;may.&#8221;) If so, then watch the Airbus/EADS/Northrop crowd and their supporting politicians whinge on about including the Boeing findings in the Final RFP (Article 23 notwithstanding).</p>
<p>Defense Secretary Robert Gates had hoped this Round 3 would be free of corporate food fights and political interference. We thought at the time this veteran of Washington who is now serving his sixth President was being naive.</p>
<p>As we told KOMO Radio (Seattle) in a recent interview about the tanker competition, &#8220;We can&#8217;t wait for the damn thing to be over.&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Original Post:</strong></p>
<p>With Boeing and Northrop Grumman still in the Q&#38;A stage with the USAF in advance of a Final Request for Proposals in the KC-X competition, we predict that Boeing will offer the KC-767 and not the KC-777.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s why:</p>
<ul>
<li><!--more-->Boeing simply cannot afford another new airplane program right now. The KC-777 is only a concept airplane; Boeing would have to sink billions of dollars into the development of this derivative aircraft. The cost overruns and customer penalties for the 787 and, to a lesser extent, the 747-8, are already squeezing the company. Boeing is faced with the larger problem of potentially launching an entirely new airplane program in 2011-13 to replace the 777 to meet the forthcoming Airbus A350; or a enhanced derivative of the 777; and a re-engined 737 or a successor airplane, also within the 2011-2015 period.</li>
<li>The company has billions in &#8220;sunk costs&#8221; in the KC-767 International program. Financially, it makes far more sense to offer this airplane to the Air Force.</li>
<li>Offering a tanker based on the 777 will open Boeing to WTO issues. The European Community identified the 777 as a major beneficiary of &#8220;illegal&#8221; subsidies in its complaint to the WTO against Boeing. As long as US interests are attacking illegal subsidies provided Airbus on the A330-based KC-30 offered by Northrop Grumman, any 777-based tanker will similarly come under attack, assuming the WTO rules in the EU&#8217;s favor, as expected.</li>
<li>The 767 is less likely to trigger WTO issues. Launched in 1982, the 767&#8211;although included in the EU&#8217;s broad-based complaint (if we recall correctly)&#8211;the amount of &#8220;illegal&#8221; subsidies, if any, pales to that alleged for the 777.</li>
<li>Boeing still has development issues with the KC-767I (Italian) version. We understand the centerline hose-and-drogue system now is causing Boeing headaches. (Boeing declines comment.) Still, the last thing Boeing needs are the risks associated with an entirely new tanker in the KC-777.</li>
<li>A Boeing executive spilled the beans and said publicly, in front of more than 100 people, that the company was &#8220;leaning&#8221; (his word) toward the 767.</li>

On s’émouvait de la perte définitive du goût de carton moisi au profit de la triste discrétion du silicone.</p>
<p>Mais on a trois ceps de retard. Ou plutôt, trois satellites. Car ça, c’était un débat du vingtième siècle. Aujourd’hui, le raisin est en orbite.</p>
<p>C&#8217;est EADS, par l’intermédiaire de sa filiale Infoterra, spécialisée dans l’« observation de la Terre », qui a propulsé le raisin au-dessus des nuages. Sa technologie, baptisée du ravissant nom d’Oenoview™, développée en France l’an passé, vient tout juste de traverser la Manche. Elle se résume en fait à un satellite, qui emmagasine des images très haute définition (au choix: un ou cinq mètres par pixel) des vignes, sources de données biophysiques, comme la quantité de feuilles au mètre carré, le couvert végétal, etc. Des cartes en sont tirées, puis analysées par les messieurs de l’Institut coopératif du vin, qui conseillent le viticulteur en vue de faire baisser ses coûts de production, puis de récolter le raisin à un stade optimal selon les cépages.</p>
<p>Bref, EADS, c’est encore mieux que Robert Parker. Sans doute aussi présomptueux, peut-être encore plus consensuel, certainement plus cher, mais scien-ti-fique !</p>

<p>While the drama over the 787 Line 2 siting dominated the news last week, there was some stuff happening on the KC-X tanker front.</p>
<p>Boeing released this video about its tanker program. Note that KC-767 is shown with winglets, which in airline service are improving fuel burn by more than 4%.</p>

<p><!--more-->Northrop, meantime, not only has threatened to not bid (as we previously posted),<a href="http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2009/10/airforce_tanker_102809w/"> it is pondering suing</a> over the USAF release of the Northrop cost basis of the KC-30 in the 2006 competition and the inability to get Boeing&#8217;s cost-basis on the KC-767AT.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_channel.jsp?channel=defense&#38;id=news/KCX103009.xml&#38;headline=U.S.A.F.%20Open%20To%20Changes%20In%20Tanker%20RFP">The Pentagon says it is open</a> to revising the specifications outlined in the draft RFP.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/business/breaking-news/story/1310754.html">Northrop says the DRFP favors Boeing</a> because it is a price-based document even though the Air Force says this is a best-value competition. (We agree this is price-based, not best value. Whether this puts Northrop at a disadvantage remains to be seen.)</p>
<p>Boeing CEO Jim McNerney said on the company&#8217;s October 21 earnings call that Boeing is placing a lot of emphasis on the World Trade Organization&#8217;s Interim Report in which it is said the WTO found Airbus benefited from $5bn in illegal launch aid for the A330 (few people have actually seen the report so far). Boeing supporters believe this $5bn should be added to the Northrop/Airbus base price in the KC-X competition. McNerney essentially said he can&#8217;t compete on price if it is not. We don&#8217;t quite understand this: the 767 tooling should be totally amortized by now, which ought to give Boeing a heck of a price advantage over Northrop/Airbus, which plans to build an entirely new assembly plant in Mobile (AL) to put the tanker together, complete (we presume) with new tooling.</p>
<p>KING5 TV (NBC-Seattle) <a href="http://www.king5.com/news/local/Charleston-decision-could-help-Boeing-win-tanker-contract-67793267.html">had a report last week</a> that suggests Charleston&#8217;s win for the 787 Line 2 might help Boeing in the tanker competition because it will pick up Congressional support in South Carolina for its bid. We&#8217;re not so sure that Boeing didn&#8217;t already have this state&#8217;s Congressional support, so we think the siting of Line 2 there probably won&#8217;t have much influence.</p>
<p><a href="http://blog.al.com/live/2009/10/eads_a330_tanker_arrives_in_us.html">At long last, the EADS/Airbus KC-30 MRTT destined for the Australian Air Force passed gas</a> through its aerial refueling boom. According to Inside Defense, a headline says the KC-X requirement will force Boeing to retool its refueling boom (the article itself is available to paid subscribers only).</p>

<p>Boeing supporters Monday (November 2) <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Boeing-backers-press-Obama-on-apf-768169942.html?x=0&#38;.v=2">signed yet another letter</a> urging the Air Force to take into account the WTO Interim Report about Airbus. With the WTO still to issue its Interim Report in the EU case against Boeing &#8220;subsidies,&#8221; we continue to oppose a one-side inclusion of this issue. If this happened and Boeing won the contract on price, Northrop would have a ready-made protest that certainly would be upheld, and another year or more would go by while the KC-135s get older.</p>
<p>If Boeing and its supporters insist on the WTO Airbus finding being included, then let&#8217;s wait another 6-9 months for the WTO Boeing report to be issued. Only then will a &#8220;fair and open competition&#8221; be fair and open.</p>

<p><img class="alignleft" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AxCuBauiBF0/SVqMJ44Iu4I/AAAAAAAABbg/swpNCbmTET4/s400/AIR_KC-767_and_KC-777_Concept_lg.jpg" alt="" width="267" height="400" />This week, the California-based company said the Pentagon&#8217;s plan is unfairly biased toward&#8217;s <a href="http://www.unitedstatestanker.com/">Boeing&#8217;s less-costly KC-767 tanker</a>, and as a result, it and joint-venture partner <strong>EADS</strong> <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/CMPSRV/idUSN2816534920091028">may decide to boycott the bidding</a>. Or it may <a href="http://blog.al.com/live/2009/10/northrop_grumman_threatens_to.html">decide to sue</a>.</p>
<p>A Pentagon spokesman didn&#8217;t exactly laugh out loud, but did suggest <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/CMPSRV/idUSN2832022020091028">that the military doesn&#8217;t take the threat seriously</a>. &#8220;This is an extremely lucrative contract,&#8221; spokesman Geoff Morrell said.</p>
<p>Northrop Grumman has teamed with Airbus to offer the Air Force a modified A330 tanker. Their proposed<strong> KC-30</strong> would be larger than Boeing&#8217;s 767, which would allow it to carry more fuel and cargo. But the plane is also less fuel-efficient than Boeing&#8217;s version, and since it&#8217;s larger, it won&#8217;t fit into the Air Force&#8217;s existing hangers, which would require expensive upgrades to both buildings and aircraft ramps at each air base where it would be stationed. Boeing also argues that the cargo-carrying capability of the larger plane is irrelevant and not worth the extra cost, since the Air Force will use them as refueling planes, not supply jets.</p>
<p>However, if the Pentagon must have a tanker with cargo capacity, Boeing says it can also offer a tanker <a href="http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2009/07/boeing-kc-777-so-much-better-t.html">based on its state-of-the-art 777-F freighter</a>.</p>
<p>That hasn&#8217;t stopped Team Toulouse from <a href="http://blog.al.com/live/2009/10/pentagon_favors_boeing_in_air.html">unleashing its Mobile Minions</a>, such as Sen. Richard Shelby, who claimed that the proposed bidding process is &#8220;a sham.&#8221; Eight of nine Alabama members of Congress have signed a letter complaining that the process &#8220;fails the test of rationality.&#8221;</p>
<p>If Airbus wins the tanker contract, it intends to build a new factory in <strong>Mobile</strong>, Ala., where it would assemble the planes from parts made in France.</p>
<p>The <strong>International Association of Machinists &#8212; </strong>and<strong> District 751</strong> in particular <strong>&#8211;</strong>  strongly support the Boeing tanker bid, as do <strong>AFL-CIO</strong> constiuencies like the <a href="http://www.ajc.com/opinion/readers-write-10-29-176878.html?cxtype=rss_news_128746"><strong>A. Philip Randolph Institute</strong></a>. The Boeing plane would be built by highly skilled workers on an existing factory line in Everett, supported by an existing supply chain. That&#8217;s a sharp contrast to Team Toulouse&#8217;s plan to have a one-of-a-kind, trans-Atlantic joint venture assemble French-built planes in an unbuilt factory, using untrained workers who have yet to be hired.</p>
<p>The Union also feels that <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/international-association-of-machinists-decries-eads-false-jobs-claims-66908862.html">the Pentagon should penalize the Airbus bid</a>, because the KC-30 would be based on an Airbus jet that received government subsidies that the World Trade Organization has ruled were illegal. The Boeing bid also would create more American jobs, which is something that should be considered today, as the United States tries to climb out of the worst recession in 75 years, the Union argues.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Boeing is &#8220;leaning&#8221; toward offering the KC-767 to the US Air Force in the KC-X competition, an executive revealed at a conference in Everett (WA) today. Boeing previously has been coy about whether it will offer the KC-767, or a tanker based on the 777 or two separate bids, one for each airplane.</p>
<p>George Maffeo, Vice President of Supplier Manager for all the 7-Series commercial programs except the 787, told the annual Aerospace Conference of the British-American Business Council-Pacific Northwest that the tanker development team of Boeing&#8217;s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) unit has moved over to Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) to learn from their experiences to offer better technologies and cost efficiencies to beat the Northrop Grumman/EADS/Airbus KC-30.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>Separately, several months ago we learned that IDS&#8217;s tanker team was consulting BCA&#8217;s 737-based P-8A Poseidon sub-hunter team in order to reduce risk for Round 3 of Boeing&#8217;s KC-X bid. The Draft Request for Proposals was issued last month; initial comments are due within 60 days, followed by a Final RFP. Bids are due in the second quarter and a contract is expected to be awarded in August, Maffeo told the conference today.</p>
<p>We were told several months ago that the IDS tanker team wants to learn from the BCA P-8A team what to do better. The P-8A is one of Boeing&#8217;s few success stories in recent new airplane development programs; it was rolled out on time and, people say, on budget.</p>
<p>Boeing still is challenged by its KC-767 International Program. Only three of four tankers have been delivered to the Japanese air force and none of the four to the Italians. The first Japanese delivery was more than a year late and the Italian tankers are expected to be at least five years late when first delivery is tendered either late this year or early next year.</p>
<p>One of the problems with the Italian tanker&#8211;which is very similar to the specifications the USAF had for the KC-X in the 2006 competition&#8211;was flutter issues with the wing refueling pods. Boeing, after a long and difficult period, fixed this problem. But we are told it has not fixed aerodynamic problems with the centerline fuselage hose-and-drogue system (which is in addition to the aft refueling boom). This is said to be the cause behind the continuing delays.</p>
<p>IDS tanker spokesman Bill Barksdale refused to confirm or discuss the drogue report. He provided this statement:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;As we said at the Paris Air Show, our main focus has been to complete the Italy KC-767 tanker flight test program, complete Federal Aviation Administration Supplemental Type Certification (STC) and then work with the U.S. Navy to complete a Military Utility Observation (MUO) required under contract. That is similar to the MUO we conducted with the U.S. Air Force earlier this year.</p>
<p>&#8220;We have completed the FAA STC certification requirements. Once flight testing has been completed and all resultant findings have been addressed, we&#8217;ll work with the U.S. Navy to schedule the MUO requirement. Once the MUO requirement has been completed, we&#8217;ll begin the Tender for Acceptance process with our Italian customers and deliver their advanced KC-767 tanker.</p>
<p>&#8220;Boeing will not forecast any dates concerning these remaining milestones. Am Anfang ist nur Lärm. Dann kommt die Vibration, der Druck – und schon sind wir in der Luft. Oben. Weg. Unser Reporter im schwedischen Kampfjet, der bald auch über die Schweiz donnern könnte<br />

Herzklopfen.<br />
«Gooooooood morning, Laplaaaaaand!»<br />
Atmen!<br />
Nein, ich habe noch nie Flugangst gehabt. Auf die Rollbahn gefahren werden und auf das anspruchsvollste Manöver der Fliegerei warten? Kein Problem! Vom Sessel aus Tausende Meter über dem Boden auf Land und Leute niederschauen? Bitte! Über dem Ozean die Grossartigkeit von Mutter Erde bestaunen? Wunderbar!<br />
Auch vor Geschwindigkeit habe ich mich nie gefürchtet. Im Gegenteil: das leere Gefühl im Bauch beim harten Anfahren, in den Sessel gedrückt werden während der Beschleunigung, schneller, immer schneller, bis das Nackenhaar aufsteht – mehr davon!<br />
Bis ich vergangene Woche in Nordschweden in den Gripen gestiegen bin.<br />
Ich habe gedacht: Ein Testflug in einem Kampfjet – aufregend, klar, machen wir, locker. Die werden mit uns ein wenig auf der Rollbahn rumkurven, und das wars. Als ich dann aber nach einem langen Tag Vorbereitung in der engen Kabine des Gripen sitze, umgeben von etwas Karbon, Kunststoff und Stahl, über ein Dutzend Kabel, Riemen und Schläuchen mit dem Fighter verbunden und auf Gedeih und Verderb meinem Piloten mit Übernamen «Combat» ausgeliefert, weiss ich: Es gilt ernst.<br />
Ich sitze nicht in einem Kampfjet – ich bin mit einem Kampfjet bekleidet.<br />
«Combat» zieht den Jet steil hoch. Wir gehen senkrecht in die Luft. 1000 Fuss, 2000 Fuss, 3000 Fuss. Drehen scharf links. Helm drückt auf Stahl. Arme wie Blei. Blickfeld eng. Gefesselt.<br />
Atmen!<br />
Ich sehe wie sich die Landschaft unter mir verformt, als wäre sie Knetmasse. Wie sie auf der einen Seite näher zu kommen scheint, auf der anderen Seite verschwindet. Als der Druck endlich nachlässt, stosse ich ein schweres «Uff» in die Atemmaske. Tobhias Wikström, wie «Combat» mit bürgerlichem Namen heisst, antwortet mit «Hahaha». Er habe beim Start, sagt er nachher, den Nachbrenner gezündet. Das sei zwar nicht üblich. Mache aber mehr Spass. «Hahaha.»<br />
Luleå ist das Meiringen von Schweden: eine kleine Stadt knapp unterhalb des Polarkreises, die grösste Stadt am Bottnischen Meerbusen und, neben einer Basis südlich von Stockholm, Schwedens wichtigster Luftwaffenstützpunkt. Russland, jahrzehntelang eine realistische Bedrohung für das neutrale Land, ist nah, militärisch in Sichtweite.<br />
Hierhin hat uns der Flugzeugbauer Saab und die schwedische Luftwaffe eingeladen, um «einmal die Erfahrung zu machen, was ein solcher Kampfjet leistet», wie es Peter Liander von Saab ausdrückte, der die Reise organisiert hatte. Sein Ziel war klar: den Gripen in die Schweiz zu verkaufen. Und wir – wir wollten einfach einmal Fighter fliegen. Und sei es auf dem Rücksitz eines Trainingsjets. Ein Abenteuer, das noch nicht vielen vergönnt worden ist: Selbst Max Ungricht, Chefredaktor der Fachzeitschrift «Cockpit», der auch eingeladen war, hatte diese Erfahrung noch nie gemacht.<br />
Was es uns abverlangen würde, wurde schnell klar: Wir hatten in Luleå kaum die Füsse auf festen Boden gesetzt, als Peter Liander das Programm für den kommenden Tag skizzierte: Abfahrt vom Hotel zum Stützpunkt um 7 Uhr, medizinische Tests bis Mittag, dann Lunch, am Nachmittag Sicherheits-Briefings und, wenn Zeit, ein Rundgang auf dem Gelände. Es blieb wenig Zeit.<br />
Wir mussten Blutund Urinproben abgeben, einen Gehör- und Sehtest machen, ein EKG, eine Untersuchung durch einen Militärarzt über uns ergehen lassen. Schriftlich gab er uns die Erlaubnis, am nächsten Morgen in den Kampfjet zu steigen. Keine Selbstverständlichkeit; er habe neulich acht Briten und Iren dagehabt, erzählte der Doc. Drei hätten nicht in die Luft gedurft. Uns schwante Übles.<br />
«Da drüben, links, ist Finnland», sagt Tobhias auf 25000 Fuss.<br />
«Rechts kannst du die Berge sehen.» Es bleibt mir nur wenig Zeit, die Aussicht zu geniessen, schon drückt «Combat» den Jet in Richtung Boden. «Lass uns zu den Wolken da unten fliegen», sagt er. Schon streifen wir den zarten weissen Dunst, fliegen hindurch, dann wieder hoch, das Flugzeug wie auf Schienen, ein Gefühl von Achterbahn. «That’s what it’s all about», sagt Tobhias. «Willst du mal das Steuer übernehmen?»<br />
Der JAS-39 Gripen ist ein einmotoriger Kampfjet der fünften Generation. JAS steht für «Jakt, Attack och Spaning» – er ist Jäger, Angreifer und Aufklärer in einem. Seine kompakte Bauweise macht ihn zu dem Jet mit den niedrigsten Betriebskosten. Dennoch ist er in der Evaluation der Schweiz zur Beschaffung neuer Kampfjets eher der Aussenseiter. Allein schon deshalb, weil er so günstig ist: Die Schweizer Armee will immer das «Beste», heisst: Teuerste, Exklusivste. Die Industriekonzerne Dassault aus Frankreich sowie das deutsch-europäische Konsortium EADS, welche die Konkurrenten Rafale und Eurofighter anbieten, verfügen wegen der überaus engen wirtschaftlichen Verflechtungen zwischen der Schweiz, Deutschland und Frankreich über eine stärkere Lobby.<br />
«Is you a bit afraid?», hatte mich Roland Nordgren gefragt, als ich eingekleidet war. Er hatte uns mit Overalls, Druckanzug und Schuhen ausgestattet. Die Furcht war wohl nicht zu verbergen gewesen. Kein Wunder: Sie hatten uns Kotztüten in die Hosentaschen gesteckt und uns eingebläut, vor dem Erbrechen rechtzeitig die Atemmaske auszuziehen; sie hatten uns verboten, während des Starts und der Landung etwas anzufassen; sie hatten uns erklärt, was «Eject! Eject! Eject!» bedeutet: Arme zum Körper, Augen schliessen, Zähne zusammenbeissen und kräftig am gelb-schwarzen Stahlhebel zwischen den Beinen ziehen – der Schleudersitz, für den Notfall. Am Schluss mussten wir Namen und Telefonnummern unserer nächsten Angehörigen aufschreiben. «Das wird ein Flug, den man nicht buchen kann», hatte Peter Liander aufmunternd gesagt.<br />
Dann hiess es: Raus in den Kampf um Tapferkeit und Würde!<br />
«Fighter on two o’clock», flötet eine charmante Frauenstimme in meinem Helm. «Die schlechten Nachrichten überbringt jeweils ein Mann», lacht Tobhias. Die Dame macht uns darauf aufmerksam, dass links hinter uns ein anderer Jet fliegt. «Combat» dreht unvermittelt eine enge Rolle, bei der sich der Jet um seine eigene Achse dreht. Mein Körper ist augenblicklich wie gelähmt. Kopf leer. Wille weg. Sehe, wie Welt sich dreht. Füge mich.<br />
Atmen!<br />
Dass der da vorne überhaupt noch lenken kann!<br />
«Hahaha», macht Tobhias.<br />
Nein, das hier ist nicht Meiringen. Hier stört man keine Bewohner, Touristen, Murmeltiere. Wir blicken von 10 000 Meter auf Millionen von Seen und Billionen von Bäumen in allen erdenklichen Farben. Weit und breit keine Häuser. Nordschweden ist fast unbewohnt. Das Trainingsgelände der Staffel sei gut doppelt so gross wie die Schweiz, weiss Tobhias. «Ein Paradies für Fighter-Piloten.»<br />
Warum nur sind die schönsten Flecken Erde immer Militärübungsplätze?<br />
Als Tagesprogramm ist eine kleine Alltagsübung der Staffel vorgesehen: Wir sollen ein anderes Flugzeug abfangen, das in «unseren» Luftraum eingedrungen ist, und es auffordern, ihn zu verlassen. Mit Tempo Teufel fliegt «Combat» von hinten an den Jet heran und drosselt aggressiv sein Triebwerk. Das sei auch im Ernstfall eine Show, sagt der Pilot. So dass allen sofort klar ist, wer der Chef des Luftraums ist. Als wir die Übungspartner wieder verlassen, beschleunigt Tobhias von 250 auf 550 Knoten – gut 1000 km/h – in 6 Sekunden. 89 Kilo-Newton drücken mich in den Stahlsitz. Tränen im Gesicht.<br />
Atmen!<br />
Mir kommt der Kaffeeraum der Piloten in den Sinn, wo eine Plakette der Rocket Chair Society hängt. Niklas Sandström ist im Jahr 1998 der letzte schwedische Pilot gewesen, der unsanft aus dem Jet hat aussteigen müssen. Auf der Plakette sind nur diejenigen verzeichnet, die den Schleudersitz überlebt haben. Tote werden nicht Mitglieder in einem Club. Schon gar nicht in einem so exklusiven.<br />
Jetzt nur diesen stählernen Hebel zwischen den Beinen nicht berühren!<br />
In der Cafeteria hängt auch ein gut acht Meter breites Gemälde. Das Panorama zeigt zwei Jets in romantischer nordischer Landschaft. Sie fliegen nach Lapporten, zum Tor Lapplands. Vor diesem kitschigen Bild sitzen die Piloten mehrmals am Tag und trinken Kaffee, «Fika» wie es auf Schwedisch heisst, blättern in den Zeitschriften «Air Forces» oder «Combat Aircraft», plaudern. Ab und zu bringen sie ihre Jets auf das Rollfeld, steigen in den Himmel hinauf. Vorne links in ihrem Cockpit finden sie einen Kippschalter: «Peace», «War». Er ist unbenutzt. Die schwedischen «Top Guns» sind nette Typen.<br />
«Combat» sei der Typ von Mann, dem man nicht allein im Wald begegnen wolle, hatte einer gesagt. Tobhias hatte nur verlegen gelacht. Er ist 36 Jahre alt, Major, Deputy Squadron Commander und stammt, wie die meisten Piloten, aus Stockholm. Er ist der entspannteste Karrierist, den ich je getroffen habe. Seit 1998 lebt er in der kleinen nordischen Stadt Luleå, deren Name nur aussprechen kann, wer besoffen ist – oder einem Kampfjet entsteigt: Lüüüleo.<br />
«Jetzt machen wir ein paar akrobatische Figuren, okay?», fragt «Combat». Bevor ich antworte, setzt er zum Looping an. Schnell ziehen wir hoch, die Erde verschwindet, wir fliegen geradewegs in den Himmel. Über 5g, die fünffache Erdanziehungskraft, wirken nun auf uns. Der Druckanzug wird prall und hart, damit nicht alles Blut aus unseren Köpfen weicht. Der Körper heiss. Alles drückt.<br />
Dann sehen wir die Erde auf dem Kopf stehen.<br />
Rasen kopfüber wieder auf sie zu.<br />
Alles wendet sich.<br />
Atmen!<br />
Der Flug – ein Wahn. Ein Rausch. Eine Gehirnwäsche.<br />
Am Vorabend hatte ich vor lauter Aufregung nur Pizza gegessen. Statt Rentier. Jetzt ist mir kein bisschen schlecht. Langsam beginnt mir dieser Gripen zu gefallen. Künftig werde ich beim Start einer Linienmaschine an die Fahrt in einem alten Volvo denken müssen, beim Airbus-Fliegen an das Busfahren im Osten.<br />
Der Greif – Gripen – ist ein mythisches Tier, halb Löwe, halb Adler. Das wohl aus dem Orient stammende Fabelwesen taucht in Märchen und Mythologie zwischen Indien und dem Aargau auf. Sogar auf der Bundesratskuppel in Bern sitzt einer. Ob das der schwedischen Offerte bei der Kampfjet-Evaluation dient, ist fraglich.<br />

Der agile Jet sei wie gemacht für unser Land, Schweden stelle ähnliche Anforderungen an seine Luftwaffe wie die Schweiz. Würde man den Eurofighter als Rolls-Royce und den französischen Rafale als Bentley unter den Kampfjets bezeichnen, wäre der Gripen ein Audi-Kombi: leichter – mehr Arbeitstier denn Repräsentant. «Ganz einfach die vernünftigste Lösung», findet Ungricht.<br />
Nach 41 Minuten ist der Höllenritt vorbei. «Combat» ist in einem Radius von gut 250 Kilometern über Nordschweden geflogen, hat 3000 Liter Kerosin verbrannt, literweise geschwitzt. Bei unserer Rückkehr sitzen die Piloten wieder beim Kaffee. «Hey, how was it?», fragen sie. Und antworten selbst: «I can see it in your face!» Es steht in mein Gesicht geschrieben.<br />

<p>A partir do próximo mês a PLUNA começará a voar para Foz de Iguaçú, somando assim seis destinos regulares no Brasil : Foz de Iguaçú, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Porto Alegre e &#8211; na alta temporada &#8211; Florianópolis. Os voos para a capital do Estado de Santa Catarina começarão também em novembro, e a partir de dezembro a PLUNA estará conectando também Florianópolis com Santiago do Chile com um voo semanal. Esta será a segunda rota da PLUNA entre cidades não uruguaias, já que mês passado começou a operar Santiago do Chile – Assunção do Paraguai. O desempenho da rota entre Chile e Paraguai em setembro atingiu uma ocupação média 50%, dados “muito bons” segundo fontes da empresa por tratar-se de uma rota nova. De acordo com as reservas para o mês de outubro, já se pode projetar uma tendência de ocupação para acima de 60%.</p>

<p><strong>Gol lança voos regulares entre Florianópolis e Buenos Aires</strong> </p>
<p>A Gol, companhia aérea de baixo custo e baixa tarifa da América Latina, acaba de lançar um voo regular diário que liga, sem escalas ou conexões, o Aeroporto Internacional de Florianópolis (Santa Catarina) a Buenos Aires, na Argentina. A nova rota é operada por aeronaves Boeing 737-800 Next Generation. O voo direto parte da capital catarinense às 04h50, chegando ao Aeroporto Internacional de Ezeiza, em Buenos Aires, às 06h55. No sentido contrário, a aeronave decola da Argentina às 23h01, com chegada prevista em Florianópolis às 00h55. As passagens já estão disponíveis para compra no site da GOL (www.voegol.com.br), ou por meio da Central de Relacionamento com os Clientes, no telefone 0300-115-2121(custo de ligação local).</p>

<p><strong>Trip contempla aumento de frota e voos internacionais</strong> </p>
<p>O presidente da TRIP Linhas Aéreas disse que a companhia aérea regional vai tomar importantes decisões sobre a sua frota até o final do ano e que espera iniciar voos para países fronteiriços em cerca de dois anos. Segundo José Mário Caprioli, presidente da TRIP, as decisões sobre a frota podem incluir pedidos de aeronaves Embraer com capacidade para 100 passageiros. Em 2009, a TRIP aumentou 60% sua oferta e planeja um crescimento anual entre 40% e 50% nos próximos anos, dobrando sua frota de 30 aeronaves (25 turboprops ATR-42 e 72 e 5 jatos Embraer 175) até a Copa do Mundo de 2014.</p>

<p><strong>Atores tomam susto em voo privado na California</strong> </p>
<p>Os atores americanos Brooke Shields e James Belushi saíram ilesos de um acidente com o avião privado no qual viajavam, informou nesta terça (6) a edição digital da revista &#8220;People&#8221;. O aparelho Cessna aterrissou na sexta-feira passada em San Luis Obispo (Califórnia), mas o piloto esqueceu de ativar os freios após a sua entrada no hangar, explicaram as autoridades locais à publicação. A aeronave aterrissou em um aeroporto privado situado na localidade de San Simeon, aonde as duas celebridades se dirigiam junto a outros viajantes para assistir a um evento privado, disse o porta-voz da Polícia local, Rob Bryn. &#8220;O piloto saiu do avião, mas se esqueceu de ativar o freio&#8221;, disse. O avião se deslocou alguns metros, quebrou alguns vidros do hangar e sofreu danos em uma das laterais, mas não houve pessoas feridas, explicou Bryn. &#8220;Foi um acidente infeliz, mas, por sorte, todo mundo está bem&#8221;, disse à &#8220;People&#8221; a representante da atriz, Jill Fritzo.</p>

<p><strong> Ryanair com passagens a 1 Euro</strong> </p>
<p>A companhia irlandesa de baixo custo Ryanair comemorou nesta terça-feira a marca de 3,5 milhões de passageiros com destino ou origem ao aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro, no Porto, desde que o terminal aéreo começou a operar, em janeiro de 2005. Viajando com destino a Bergamo-Milão, André Ribeiro foi o passageiro de número 3.500.000, tendo, por isso, sido surpreendido com a oferta de duas passagens aéreas promocionais. Para festejar o marco, a Ryanair anunciou também nesta terça a oferta de um milhão de lugares a um euro para viajar a partir dos terminais aéreos de Porto e Faro no final de outubro e novembro. Estes assentos podem ser reservados até a meia-noite desta quinta-feira. A companhia aérea oferecerá ainda viagens aos calouros universitários de Aveiro e Coimbra. Para ganhar a passagem, estes estudantes devem encenar qualquer coreografia e gritar o nome da Ryanair e dos cursos que frequentam, no local e hora programados. Serão oferecidas 50 passagens promocionais para Grande Canária, Tenerife, Faro, Madri e Karlsruhe Baden.</p>

<p>A Embraer entregou um jato executivo Legacy 600 para a Titan Aviation, de Dubai, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos, em cerimônia realizada hoje na sede da Empresa em São José dos Campos, interior do Estado de São Paulo. O jato pertence a um cliente não divulgado e fará parte do portfólio de aeronaves gerenciadas e operadas da Titan, que inclui dois Legacy 600, além de um Lineage 1000 com entrega programada para 2012. &#8220;A Titan Aviation é um grande parceiro da Embraer e desejamos a ela muito sucesso com este terceiro Legacy 600&#8243;, disse Colin Steve, Diretor de Marketing e Vendas da Embraer, Europa, Oriente Médio e África &#8211; Aviação Executiva. &#8220;A Embraer continuará a apoiar as operações deste cliente e esperamos que ele retorne em breve para novas entregas.&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Novo terminal de Montevidéu é inaugurado</strong> </p>
<p>O escritório Rafael Viñoly Architects (RVA) assina o projeto do novo terminal do aeroporto internacional de Carrasco, inaugurado na última segunda-feira, dia 5 de outubro, a 18 km de Montevidéu, capital do Uruguai. O projeto, contratado pela Puerta del Sur, empresa responsável por operar o aeroporto, foi desenvolvido para expandir a capacidade e impulsionar o crescimento comercial e turístico da região.</p>

<p><strong>Amazonas quer aeroporto de Manaus ampliado</strong> </p>
<p>O governador do Amazonas, Eduardo Braga, e o presidente da Infraero, Murilo Marques Barboza, discutiram sobre melhorias para o Aeroporto Internacional Eduardo Gomes /Manaus (AM). O encontro aconteceu ontem (6/10), na sede da Empresa, em Brasília (DF). Braga pediu cooperação da Infraero para que as adequações do novo terminal de passageiros contemplem o terminal de integração do novo metrô de superfície a ser construído pelo governo. O presidente da Infraero falou sobre o cronograma de obras do aeroporto de Manaus e já marcou para a próxima semana um encontro entre os arquitetos da empresa e do governo para alinhamento de metas. &#8220;Vamos cooperar, esta integração é muito importante. Não basta somente a realização das obras no aeroporto sem um bom acesso viário&#8221;, lembrou Murilo.</p>

<p><strong>Para expandir Viracopos, 1.000 desapropriações</strong> </p>
<p>Em Campinas, o aeroporto de Viracopos investirá em uma área de 12,36 km2, com 3.172 lotes urbanos e 88 rurais. Para liberar o local, já há mil ações de desapropriação em andamento, 650 delas ajuizadas. Com paisagem de cerrado, a região cerca a comunidade alemã Friburgo, criada em 1879. Tombadas pelo Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Artístico e Cultural de Campinas (Condepacc), as construções serão preservadas, garante a Infraero. Mas os herdeiros terão de se retirar da área com &#8220;restrições de ocupação. &#8220;Nossas tradições devem acabar&#8221;, lamenta o lavrador Gerson Schäfer, 55.</p>

<p><strong>Paraná estuda aeroporto dedicado a carga</strong></p>
<p>O Paraná aguarda a autorização para construir o primeiro aeroporto de iniciativa privada especializado em cargas no Brasil. A liberação para a instalação do Aeroporto Internacional de Cargas dos Campos Gerais, em Ponta Grossa, deve sair em poucos dias. Com a nova unidade, novos investimentos vão ser feitos na região, e significam um momento importante para o desenvolvimento do Paraná.</p>

<p><strong>Equipamentos para limpar pistas</strong></p>
<p>A européia Thales está firmando uma parceria com a firma israelense Xsight Systems para desenvolver e comercializar equipamentos capaz de detectar pequenos destroços caídos nas pistas de pouso dos aeroportos. Essa é uma preocupação crescente dos administradores dos terminais aeroportuários do mundo. O novo sistema usará radar de 77GHz e sensores óticos de alta resolução. Estudos recentes de organismos internacionais lista cerca de 70 mil casos de objetos desse tipo por ano, em 300 dos mais movimentados aeroportos do mundo, que causam danos a aeronaves comerciais avaliados em US$ 20 milhões anuais.</p>

<p><strong>Contra a ampliação de Congonhas</strong></p>
<p>O engenheiro Creso de Franco Peixoto, especializado em transportes e professor do Centro Universitário da FEI, divulgou estudo no qual condena a proposta obra de extensão da pista do Aeroporto de Congonhas por mais 1000 metros além dos 2 Km atuais. Discutindo argumentos técnicos e econômicos o professor não julga que a obra compense pelo seu custo-benefício e sugere a inauguração de um trem rápido ligando Congonhas ao Aeroporto Internacional de Guarulhos. A obra sugerida envolveria prolongar a pista de Congonhas com uma pista-viaduto como foi feito no Aeroporto da Ilha da Madeira, em Portugal. <p><strong>Air France doa renda do primeiro voo de seu A380</strong></p>
<p>A francesa Air France anunciou que os lucros obtidos com a venda de passagens do primeiro vôo do seu novo jato Airbus A380, numa viagem entre Paris e Nova Iorque, serão distribuídos entre as associações apoiadas pelo organismo beneficente Fondation Air France. As passagens para essa viagem inaugural estão sendo leiloadas voa Internet no endereço www.ebay.fr até o dia 21 de outubro.</p>

<p><strong>Continental terá TV ao vivo</strong></p>
<p>A norte-americana Continental Airlines vai equipar toda a sua frota de jatos Boeing usados nos vôos domésticos com sistemas de TV capazes de permitir aos passageiros de vôos domésticos assistir programas ao vivo. Até o fim de agosto 22 dos seus jatos B.737-900ER já estavam assim equipados. O plano é dotar com esses sistemas todos os B.737-900 além dos B.737-700 e 800, e os B.757-300.</p>

<p><strong>WestJet desacelera recebimentos</strong></p>
<p>A empresa canadense tipo &#8220;low fare&#8221; WestJet negociou com a Aviation Capital Group a desaceleração das entregas de 16 jatos Boeing B.737. A companhia pretende anexar mais 11 desses aviões sob a forma de leasing e comprar outros 24. Originalmente previa-se a entrega das aeronaves entre 2010 e 2013, mas o novo plano inclui o escalonamento das datas de recebimento, em função da retração do mercado consequente da crise econômica global.</p>

<p><strong>Financiamento americano para Egyptair</strong></p>
<p>companhia Egyptair recebeu o primeiro de cinco jatos Boeing B.737-800 cuja compra foi financiada pelo Exim Bank dos Estados Unidos. O JP Morgan fez o empréstimo com o aval do Governo de Washington. Esse lote de aeronaves é parte de uma encomenda maior de 12 aviões do mesmo fabricante. A direção da empresa egípcia vem renovando a frota e aplicando um rígido programa para melhorar suas condições de manutenção e operação, visando sair da &#8220;lista negra&#8221; das autoridades européias que baniu seus vôos no Velho Mundo.</p>

<p><strong>Spanair troca MD-80 por Airbus</strong></p>
<p>A companhia espanhola Spanair anunciou planos para adquirir entre 10 e 15 jatos Airbus da família A320 para substituir seus já antigos jatos MD-80. Foi anunciado que os primeiros jatos Airbus podem ser entregues à transportadora ainda em 2010, mas não se sabe quantos exemplares serão das versões A319, A320 e A321.</p>

<p><strong>Swiss com tarifas promocionais</strong></p>
<p>SWISS está com uma série de destinos em promoção na Europa. As tarifas em classe econômica variam a partir de US$ 765 e valem para saídas de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro para destinos como Paris, Amsterdã, Berlim, Veneza, Nice, Viena e outros. A companhia também oferece tarifas promocionais para viagens iniciando em Porto Alegre, a partir de US$ 865. Os voos com origem no Rio e em Porto Alegre fazem a conexão até São Paulo operados em code-share com a TAM, parceira do grupo Lufthansa, do qual a SWISS também faz parte. A parceria com a TAM se estende também no programa de milhagem, onde os passageiros podem utilizar as milhas adquiridas na SWISS para voar com a TAM, ou viceversa. Estes valores são para embarque até 14 de dezembro, mas as passagens precisam ser adquiridas até 31 de outubro. O tempo mínimo de permanência é de 6 dias e máximo de 3 meses. O pagamento pode ser parcelado em cinco vezes sem juros. Na classe executiva a empresa também lança uma promoção para a Europa a partir de US$ 2499, para todos os destinos operados pela SWISS na Suíça, Alemanha, Itália, França e outros países europeus. O tempo mínimo de permanência é de 4 dias e máximo de 1 mês. O pagamento também pode ser parcelado em cinco vezes sem juros. Um detalhe muito interessante é que a SWISS permite que as tarifas de classes econômica e executiva sejam combinadas ida e volta. Utilizando as promoções acima, um passageiro poderia ter a ida ou a volta na viagem para a Europa em classe executiva, pagando pela passagem o valor de US$ 1632, mais taxas de embarque.</p>

<p><strong>Gol oferece voos extras</strong></p>
<p>A GOL vai acrescentar mais opções de voos em sua malha aérea para atender a alta demanda estimulada pelo feriado prolongado de 12 de outubro. Já a partir de sexta-feira 9, a Companhia terá novas frequências (voos de ida e volta) entre os principais aeroportos de todas as regiões do País. O Aeroporto Internacional do Rio de Janeiro (Galeão) terá cinco frequências adicionais, ligando a capital carioca a Salvador, Fortaleza, Recife e Brasília. A Companhia também acrescentou dois novos voos de São Paulo (Aeroporto Internacional de Guarulhos) para Florianópolis e Fortaleza. Brasília, por sua vez, terá mais opções para a capital paraense e Fortaleza. E os clientes de Belo Horizonte contarão com mais frequências para Salvador, Recife e Vitória durante o feriadão. A Companhia contará com seu quadro total de colaboradores para agilizar o atendimento do check-in e despacho de bagagens. Além disso, a GOL dispõe de totens de autoatendimento nos principais aeroportos de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. Para casos de mudanças na programação dos voos, aeronaves reservas estarão posicionadas nos aeroportos Internacionais de Guarulhos e do Galeão.</p>

<p><strong>Cargueiros convertidos na Rússia</strong></p>
<p>A empresa russa United Aircraft está estudando o local ideal para implantar suas novas instalações nas quais vai modificar aviões Airbus da família A320 para a missão de cargueiros. A empresa tem uma &#8220;joint venture&#8221; com a EADS e pensou já em usar o pouco usado aeroporto Zhukovsky Gromov, próximo de Moscou, onde durante muito tempo foram feitos ensaios em vôo de novos aparelhos. Agora negocia o uso do Aeroporto Vostochny, próximo das instalações da Aviastar.</p>

<p><strong>Quarto A380 da Qantas</strong></p>
<p>A companhia australiana Qantas recebeu da Airbus Industrie o quarto jato A380, que foi empregado na rota Sydney/Los Angeles. O quinto e o sexto exemplares deverão ser entregues antes do fim do ano e outros três têm entregas previstas para 2010.</p>

<p><strong>Helicóptero franco-russo</strong></p>
<p>A Rusian Helicopters anunciou preparação para o lançamento do novo modelo &#8220;Peregrine&#8221;, uma versão do seu compacto helicóptero Mi-34 equipada com motor francês Turbomeca &#8220;Arrius&#8221;. A aeronave, que terá peso máximo de decolagem de 1450 Kg, é uma das apostas russas para entrar no mercado de helicópteros leves a turbina. Será montado em série a partir de 2011 e diversas empresas da Rússia e de outros países fornecerão partes, peças e componentes.</p>

<p><strong>Vendas aumentam com Antonov 148</strong></p>
<p>O jato regional russo Antonov An-148 vem despertando o interesse de mais operadoras. Desde o início do programa de ensaios aeronave já acumula pedidos para 41 unidades assinados por empresas aéreas da Rússia. O avião destina-se sobretudo à substituição do antigo modelo Tupolev Tu-334 e o fabricante pretende iniciar a fabricação seriada na cadência de 24 unidades por ano. Estudos recentes revelam que precisarão ser vendidos de 200 a 250 unidades para cobrir os custos do seu desenvolvimento.</p>

<p><strong>Boeing colabora com russos</strong></p>
<p>O Ministério dos Transportes da Rússia assinou um acordo de cooperação com a norte-americana Boeing para ajudá-lo a redefinir os parâmetros de segurança do transporte aéreo no país. O fabricante dos EUA ficou abalado com a queda de um jato B.737 de sua fabricação, operado pela Aeroflot-Nord, em Perm, em setembro passado.</p>

<p><strong>Controle iraquiano agora é civil</strong></p>
<p>O controle de tráfego aéreo do Iraque voltou a ser efetuado por funcionários civis. Desde 2003 cabia aos militares essa tarefa, mas agora o RAMCC (Regional Air Movement Control Center) é novamente tarefa civil, sob controle do Governo iraquiano.</p>

<p><strong>Spirit modifica contrato</strong></p>
<p>A companhia Spirit Airlines modificou o contrato que tinha para a compra de quatro jatos Airbus A319 para novos A320. A companhia, baseada na Flórida (EUA), opera hoje uma frota de 26 aviões A319 e um único A321.</p>

<p><strong>Trip deixa de voar para Sinop, Alta Floresta e Rondonópolis</strong></p>
<p>A TRIP suspendeu os voos para os municípios de Sinop, Alta Floresta e Rondonópolis, acatando decisão da Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (Anac) que alega que os equipamentos de segurança e caminhões de bombeiros utilizados nos aeroportos destas cidades são incompatíveis aos modelos de aeronaves utilizadas pela companhia, um ATR 72.</p>

<p>De 9 a 12 de outubro, a OceainAir distriburá a bordo das aeronaves cataventos em todos os voos que partem dos aeroportos de Guarulhos, Congonhas, Santos Dumont e Brasília, com destino às principais cidades brasileiras. <p><strong>Para Air Canada, tendência é que 777 fique em GRU</strong></p>
<p>A temporada de inverno canadense incentivou a Air Canada a incrementar a oferta da rota São Paulo (GRU)-Toronto. A chegada do Boeing 777-300, em substituição ao Boeing 767-300, oferece 40% mais capacidade de assentos, mas exige um número maior de viajantes para sustentar os custos de operação. Porém, a confiança do diretor comercial da aérea no Brasil, Gleyson Ranieri (foto), no mercado brasileiro vai além da manutenção da aeronave. “Estou bastante otimista com o final do ano. O mercado está voltando ao normal, por isso espero uma ocupação média de 70% e 75%”, revelou ele. “Se mantivermos essa média, a tendência é que o Boeing 777 fique não só esses quatro meses de alta temporada, mas também para o restante do ano.”</p>
<p>Falando sobre 2009, um ano marcado por instabilidades, Ranieri confessa que muitos projetos da empresa foram postergados ou sofreram alterações para se adaptar ao atual momento da economia. “Este ano foi atípico não foi só para a Air Canada, mas para todas as companhias aéreas. Para 2010, a nossa expectativa é retomar o crescimento. Não tenho um número fechado, mas creio que 5% é uma meta boa”, considerou Ranieri, acrescentando que a Boeing prometeu entregar 34 jatos para a empresa, mas a entrega está atrasada há dois anos. “Nosso problema chama-se falta de aeronave. Temos essa encomenda feita, mas até agora não recebemos nenhum equipamento. Por esse motivo também fomos obrigados a segurar alguns planos”, completou o dirigente.</p>
<p>RIO DE JANEIRO</p>
<p>A ligação entre o Brasil e a Air Canada já teve no Rio de Janeiro uma escala de sucesso. Hoje, porém, o mercado fluminense encontra-se defasado, sem nenhuma operação direta para Toronto, restando apenas o escritório da companhia na região. “Acredito muito no Rio, por isso ainda mantenho uma base lá. Agora, com essa notícia dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016, não tenho dúvidas que voltaremos a estender nossa operação”, antecipou Gleyson Ranieri, que foi além: “minha expectativa é que isso ocorra bem antes da competição”. É esperar para ver.</p>
