Before exploring the key issues in the Christian case against the Masonic Order, it is important to

Before exploring the key issues in the Christian case against the Masonic Order, it is important to have a basic understand of what Freemasonry is. Many who join the Masonic Lodge become intrigued by its eloquent ritual, its stunning regalia, impressive pageantry, and its universality, including its secret modes of recognition. All of this, of course, will naturally attract interested petitioning candidates, impress the initiates, and “puff-up” its members. Yet rather than instill the virtue of humility, as taught in the Bible, these aspects of the fraternity often build pride and unfortunately encourage an attitude of arrogance, and/or superiority. But, oh how this contrast with Scripture: James 4:6 – “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ “

While a good number of people have, at least, heard about Freemasonry and may even view it as a fraternal or civic organization, most people in the world have no clue as to what it really is. It is our hope that this article and website will help people have a better understanding of this invisible cult within our midst.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is the world’s largest, oldest and most prominent fraternity. Yet, as you will soon see, it is a cult nonetheless. It started in London in 1717. No one knows for certain how or why it started. It is believed to have originated with the craft guilds of medieval Europe and in recent times, it has expanded to admit those who did not actually belong to an operative trade. Not much is known about the very early, formative years, but not long after its inception, the three foundational degrees were formed.

The Structure of Blue Lodge Masonry

The Blue Lodge consists of 3 degrees, labeled after the trade of Operative Masonry:

Entered Apprentice (the first degree)

Fellow Craft (the second degree), and

Master Mason (the third, considered the most sublime degree in all of Masonry)

Although there are higher degrees within the Order, these 3 degrees represent the foundation of the fraternity and, as such, are the prerequisites to the higher degrees of the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, and the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, as shown in the following chart:

As noted earlier, that the third degree is the most important degree in Freemasonry. Why is it so important? We answer this question in greater detail in The Masonic Baptism, but for now let’s see what one of Masonry’s authoritative bodies has to say about it:

“It was the single object of all the ancient rites and mysteries practiced in the very bosom of pagan darkness, …to teach the immortality of the soul. This is still the great design of the third degree of Masonry. This is the scope and aim of its ritual. The Master Mason represents man, when youth, manhood, old age, and life itself have passed away as fleeting shadows, yet raised from the grave of iniquity, and quickened into another and better existence. By its legend and all its ritual, it is implied that we have been redeemed from the death of sin and the sepulchre of pollution.”

Source; Ahiman Rezon, page 141, Grand Lodge of South Carolina

On the contrary, the Bible teaches that we are redeemed from the penalty of sin (which is death) by the precious blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ our Lord. What incredible heresy it is for Freemasonry to say that by its legend and all its ritual, it is implied that we (Masons) have been redeemed from the death of sin.

Despite this assertion, many Masons will generally claim that Freemasonry is not a religion, but “A Way of Life.” A basic definition from a Masonic perspective is that it is, “a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols.” However, the questions we explore throughout this blog are; is it really just about morality? And, what is the deeper meaning of its allegory and symbols?

Some have asked me why do I keep bring up the subject of Freemasons and their so called ” good works”. As a ministry and a Born Again child of YHWH, I take Eph.5:11 seriously. Thanks again to Dr Stansell and others like him for answering that call !!!

Here is another of Dr Stansell’s recent post on Freemasons.

Because the devil is so subtle, nearly everyone is in the dark concerning the true agenda of Freemasonry, including the members themselves. The fact that seventy-five percent of active masons never advance beyond the third level–in a system consisting of thirty-three degrees–indicates that the ignorant majority at the base of the pyramid are consistently manipulated by the evil minority at the top. Furthermore, unlike the other degrees in the Scottish Rite, the thirty-third degree cannot be earned; it can only be bestowed upon a member by the Supreme Council. Thus the Council controls who becomes a member of the inner circle.

At the higher levels, members are made aware of the true god of Freemasonry–Lucifer, the angel of light.

Tragically, 37% of the Freemasonry membership in the U.S. are Southern Baptists. Is it any wonder why a Southern Baptist church recently called an ordained lesbian to be their pastor? Freemasonry is a Trojan Horse filled with Satanism.

Dream 9-11-09 “Urgent”

I was given a dream last night and when I woke from it, I immediately sought The Lord for the interpretation of it. This is it as it was revealed to me.

The Dream started out with myself in a room, not very big, and a door, I think it to have been made of metal, but a secure type of door, nonetheless. I heard noises coming from the other side of the door and I braced myself against the door, because I knew whatever or whoever was on the other side wanted to get into this room, or get to me.

I am bracing against the door, really struggling to keep it closed, when this hand comes through the door and grabs me around my knees and starts to pull me against the door with such strength that it hurt badly, I ended up with the door being forced open. I immediately recognized the person on the other side of the door, and I will share later with you who he was.

There were a multitude of people on the other side of the door, as far as I could see, I asked this man what this was and he repetitively told me,” They want to know their names”. The Holy Spirit reminded me of Revelations 2:17 and how Yahushua told John that He would give those who overcome the world “the hidden Manna and a white stone with a new name on it that only the one who received it would know.” Then the Holy Spirit told me that they didn’t know their names because they had never overcome the world, though many believed they had. That will be explained later. These people have not overcome the world and have gotten caught up in the dull mundane world and are working, working, working. BUT at the end of the day what they have done didn’t amount to anything.

Then I was shown these “light bulbs” and some of the people were eating them and they were said to taste a little like honey. I asked about this and was told that these represented “good ideas”, “inventions”, that never amounted to anything. Intended for a good purpose, but never amounting to anything that really mattered.

Then I was shown such an “idea” and it really looked very technical and modern and I thought it to be something of great value, but when it was handed to me, I was told to take it apart and shown how. This thing rapidly fell apart right before my eyes revealing it to be no more than a bunch of plastic parts all nestled inside of each other that were not anything but plastic dish drainers. The Spirit said that people are working day in and day out making “things” that don’t really amount to anything.

Now for the “Urgent” part of the dream and to whom this man on the other side of the door was. This gets very personal for me, and that’s why I had to share it, that YOU might get the same “WAKE UP”, ” URGENT” message that I got out of this.

The man on the other side of the door was my earthly Dad who had passed away a couple of years ago. The Holy Spirit began to show me personally how I too would end up like my Dad if I weren’t careful, getting caught up in the daily “works” of the world. My Dad, when he passed, had a life of hard work and not really a lot of “riches” by the world’s standards. My Mom passed away 9 months after Dad. Their life “savings” didn’t really amount to anything, by the “world’s” standards, and I was left to deal with 60 years of “stuff” that they had “left me” as part of my inheritance. There were 5 barns Dad had built over the years to house this “stuff” that they had placed such value on. I have found myself repeating Dad’s mistakes and enlarging my own barns to deal with “their stuff”, my inheritance. I have been busy, if you will, “working” on “stuff” that at the end of the day, doesn’t really matter that much.

FOR ME, I had to ask The Lord to forgive me this morning. Forgive me for being so busy about the “stuff” left behind to be an inheritance, that I almost forgot about my MOST IMPORTANT inheritance, my other home with ABBA, Father God. Beloved, I could have been on the other side of that door, with my Dad, and all those others, who didn’t “know their names”.

The Scriptures declare that we “overcome the world, by The Blood of The Lamb and by the words of their testimony”.

Beloved, The Holy Spirit showed me, that many on the other side of the door, sadly, just like my earthly Dad, were deceived and caught up in the ways of the worldly system. They spend their lives doing what the world expects them to do. They teach each other the importance of “working hard to get ahead” and that you can’t have anything if you don’t work for it. There is a lot of good wisdom in there somewhere, but it is misplaced on what it is they have worked for. I am reminded of Matthew 6: 33, “seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things, shall be added unto you”.

This dream was a “Wake Up ” call, not just for me, BUT to any who would have an ear to hear what The Spirit of The Lord is Saying.

Beloved, there is urgency behind this, as well, WE, ALL OF US, have to get busy about our Father’s Work. We have to take the “Good News” out to those who are caught up in the ways of the world and we have to do it QUICKLY. This world we live in, as we know it, is about to change right before our very eyes, even more than it has in the last year.

God’s people HAVE GOT TO, “Be Ready” for this time and this season. We have GOT TO, get focused on the right things and not the things we see as important, BUT what God TELLS us is important!!!

Last Wednesday was my Birthday and I really wanted to do something different. I fancied going on the Bluenose, but it had headed to Gloucester,Massachusetts for a schooner festival. So we decided to have a sail on the Eastern Star, a 48 foot, wooden ketch which sails 3 times a day during the summer months.

The Eastern Star is below Cameron and Louise. The ship behind them is the Concordia, just preparing to take pupils of the School Afloat off for a 10 month trip.

There was a good breeze blowing, so there was no need for the engine, other than to leave and return to our berth. Jeff helped haul up the sail, but that photo seems to be missing. Here he is just admiring his handywork.

We left the harbour sitting on the seats.

But once we were out of the bay and she heeled over, it was easier to sit on the deck with our feet almost in the water.

We sailed past the lighthouse at Battery Point which has the fog horn that keeps us awake at night.

Our trip lasted about one and a half hours, before we returned to Lunenburg Harbour.

Angus – another Scot, was painting Cameron and Louise’s house and took this photo as we sailed down to Blue Rocks.

Labyrinths seem to have made their way into most religious venues, including Christianity. I ran across an interesting article on labyrinths, which I found to be quite informative. Included here are several quotes, but the full article is well worth the read. The link for it is at the end.

The Labyrinth Journey:

Walking the Path to Fulfillment?

By Carl Teichrib

Forcing Change: www.forcingchange.org

——————————————————————————–

“Symbols are keyholes to doors in the walls of space, and through them man peers into Eternity…Symbolism, then, is the divine language, and its figures are a celestial alphabet…”- Manly P. Hall [1].

“…symbolical rites are the external expressions of man’s inward desire to unite with Divinity.” – Roberta H. Lamerson, F.R.C. [2].

“Whilst we cannot be exactly sure what the labyrinths were used for, they were clearly a symbol of the Christian way, representing the path of the soul through life.” – About Labyrinths and Mazes [3].

——————————————————————————–

I was struck by the simplicity of the above statement: that labyrinths are “clearly a symbol of the Christian way.” An interesting position, especially given the fact that the authors of this particular quote admit, “we cannot be exactly sure what the labyrinths were used for…”

We live in a day and age where many “new things” are sweeping through the Christian church. Some of these alternative directions are simply a reflection of changes in style and format. However, in our exploration towards alternative forms of spiritual expression – particularly as we try to build relevancy in a post-modern culture – it is imperative that doctrinal discernment and discretionary principles come into play. This is especially true as society rapidly embraces a plethora of alternative spiritual practices, beliefs, and paths. Sadly, we as Christians often flounder in doing our homework, and in that vein we may inadvertently open our congregations to highly questionable choices and spiritual experiences.

Paradoxically, while the evangelical Christian community talks about “spiritual warfare” and “putting on the full amour of God,” many of these same churches can be found embracing that which they claim to counter. In seeking relevancy, we have become dangerously “experiential,” and old forms of mysticism are becoming center-pieces in “experiences of faith.”

The labyrinth prayer-walk, which follows a single winding path to a central location, is a case in point. Primarily jump-started by a UK-based Christian movement in alternative spiritual expressions and by an influential San Francisco cathedral, denominations around the world are embracing labyrinths as a viable part of the spiritual journey. But are labyrinths part of the Christian encounter, as suggested by the third introductory quote above?

Understand, Christians looking for ways to bring in new relevancy within church worship did not rediscover the labyrinth as a spiritual tool. As we shall see, it’s been part of the esoteric world for a very long time. Which is why, today, labyrinth walks and “prayer journeys” are being promoted by Rosicrucian groups [4], at New Age festivals and celebrations [5], and throughout the neo-pagan world. Not surprisingly, one of America’s largest witch, shaman, and neo-pagan assemblies, the 2005 Pagan Spirit Gathering at Wisteria, OH, held a night-time Summer Solstice Labyrinth ritual, which was described as a “transformative, walking meditation through an all night labyrinth formed by 1000 lighted candles” [6].

———-
The primary historical focal point for the lore of the labyrinth goes back to Cretan and Greek tales of Queen Pasiphaë, her perverse sexual desire for a specific sacrificial bull, an abominable act of bestiality, and the birth of a strange hybrid offspring – the dreaded Minotaur, which lived in a labyrinth built to cage him [7].

Each year, King Minos, the husband of Pasiphaë, demanded that seven boys and seven girls be given as a sacrificial tribute to be devoured by the Minotaur. One year, a hero named Theseus accompanied the children. Taking a ball of twine, he unravelled the string as he went through the labyrinth, giving him a trail leading back out. Once inside the labyrinth, Theseus followed the maze to it’s center, where he battled with the Minotaur and eventually beat the creature to death.

The labyrinth containing this Minotaur was not the typical single-path labyrinth of today, but rather a complex maze containing halls and chambers. However, esoteric philosophers have long understood that the Minotaur maze directly corresponds to the ancient (and now modern) spiritually-connected labyrinth walk; the long soul journey with its many twists and turns, the ultimate arrival at the central convergence point, the struggle with the inner monster – and the final victory over the forces of darkness and ignorance (which can only happen when one is illumined at the center), and the repeated journey back to wholeness and the light of day. This esoteric significance of the Cretan story has never been lost on the initiates of the Mystery Schools.

Don’t forget, this Grecian/Cretan story was immersed in the pagan religious context of the day; that’s the metaphysical origin of the labyrinth as we can trace it. Hence the story of Pasiphaë, with its labyrinth journey and inner battle, is of interest first and foremost to the world of occult lore: for the simple reason that this is the intended context.

————–

On the mystical journey to spiritual fulfillment, the middle-eye of the labyrinth becomes a place of divine illumination. Even Kimberly Lowelle, the President of The Labyrinth Society – a network of labyrinth scholars and enthusiasts – recognizes this basic function. “The labyrinth is an archetype of transformation. Its transcendant nature knows no boundaries, crossing time and cultures with ease. The labyrinth serves as a bridge from the mundane to the divine…” [10]

————–

“Labyrinths are temples that enhance and balance and bring a sense of the sacred – a place where we can confirm our unity with the cosmos, awaken our vital force and elevate our consciousness. These structures are space/time temples where we can behold realities that oddly enough transcend space and time. The orientation, form and geometry of a labyrinth has symbolic as well as spacial [sic] importance. It is a mirror for the divine…

…Moving through a Labyrinth changes ordinary ways of perception connecting the inner and the outer, the right brain and the left brain, the involutional and the evolutional through a series of paths that represent the realms of the Gods and Goddesses. These realms are associated with planetary movement as a process that induces Union with the One.” [12]
Divine illumination is the end-goal of esoteric philosophy; it’s the central arena of occultism.

Manly P. Hall, one of the 20th century’s greatest esoteric philosophers and an eminent Masonic historian, tells us that the labyrinth was symbolic of man’s search for truth [13]. Other occult scholars tell us that the labyrinth symbolized to the people “the difficulty of finding the Path to God” [14]. All of this points to the same thing – the mystical realization of our own divinity.

As Hall states in one of his earlier books, “Man is a god in the making, and as in the mystic myths of Egypt, on the potter’s wheel he is being molded. When his light shines out to lift and preserve all things, he receives the triple crown of godhood…” [15]. Rosicrucian authority Christian Bernard explains this mystical goal as the building and unfolding of the inner Temple, “The Temple of the Universe, the Temple of the Earth and the Temple of Life are only one in the Temple of Man. This is why the time has come to work towards rebuilding it, for the Messianic Light must emanate from the Heavenly Jerusalem which vibrates within us.” [16] Laying it out very plainly, Annie Besant – an early Theosophical leader – simply said, “Man is not to be compelled; he is to be free. He is not a slave, but a God in the making” [17].

—————-

Freemasonry: when the Masonic candidate undergoes his initiation, he is led on an invisible path from station to station throughout the Lodge room. Each point and part of this journey is given an exoteric explanation – that is, the real meanings are cloaked in allegory and symbolism. After completing the journey around the Lodge, he is led to the center of the room where he kneels before an altar. The Worshipful Master asks what the candidate most desires, and the initiate responds with “Light” [20]. Know this, the light requested is not incandescent light or some other physical light energy, but spiritual illumination [21].

Order of the Golden Dawn: Initiations rites such as the Ceremony of the Grade of Philosophus have the candidate embark on a spiritual journey, following an invisible yet tangible path throughout the Lodge room. This journey, like that of Freemasonry, is intended to elevate the candidate’s level of transformative enlightenment [22].

Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis: In AMORC’s Temple ritual, Second Portal, the student partakes in an allegorical journey searching for light and knowledge. While engaged in the ritual, the student follows a path to each point on the compass, and returns to a central triangle. Again, like the two other illustrations above, this act is part of the mystical journey towards “light” and cosmic unity [23].

Order of the Eastern Star: As a co-Masonic body, the OES engages in a series of ritualistic initiations. Unlike Freemasonry, the OES ritual work is performed on a giant floor-rug pentagram. This pentagram, with an altar placed in its center, is called a Labyrinth. Each of the various initiation rites – journeys on the path to greater understanding – takes place in and around this Labyrinth [24]. Beulah Malone, Past Grand Matron and Secretary of the OES explains,

“The winding in and out of the labyrinth symbolizes the human soul stumbling and struggling through life; learning by mistakes and experiences that the way leading to the supreme life and to God is not easy but is a way of testing one’s power and strength.

By following the examples symbolized in the lives of the heroines of our Order [Author's note: this is part of the OES Labyrinth journey], we may come into a full light of His Star and into wisdom and understanding. The great magnet of our Star as it shines forth in the world is missioned to bring Unity, the Truth of Fatherhood of God, and Brotherhood of Man.” [25]
And herein lies the deeper spiritual meaning of the labyrinth-walk that has become so fashionable today. It’s the symbolic journey of illumination, completely spiritual in nature, and dependent on our works – the “journey,” or the “testing [of] one’s power and strength.”

The path to the center of the labyrinth is as the invisible but tangible path leading to the esoteric altar – it’s an initiation into the mystical.

——————-

Hundreds of Christians have taken part in labyrinth prayer walks, and many churches across North America and Europe are embracing this tool as a means to expand their spiritual experience. The Rev. Jill Geoffrion, a “certified labyrinth facilitator” and author of such books as Christian Prayer and Labyrinths and Praying the Labyrinth, writes,

“We are currently in a period of historic labyrinth revival. Churches, retreat centers and Christian camps are placing these prayer tools inside and outside. Christians all over the world are installing labyrinths in their yards and gardens. Many are using the labyrinths as a ministry tool, bringing portable versions to prisons, national denominational conferences and church group meetings. It is conservatively estimated that there are over 5,000 labyrinths in the United States alone. God is blessing the use of the labyrinth; many are being drawn closer to Jesus, experiencing healing and gaining spiritual clarity as they pray on its path.” [26]

On her labyrinth prayer website, Geoffrion offers suggested prayers for different labyrinth events. In dedicating a new labyrinth, she suggests that those in attendance form a circle on the pattern and extend “the energy that is in our hearts and minds through their hands towards the labyrinth.” Following this exercise is a meditative time where each person physically lays hands on the labyrinth and calls forth “the image of a loved one walking this labyrinth and receiving what is needed.” After more “imaging,” she recommends this responsive prayer,

“Community: We dedicate this labyrinth to spiritual awakening and reawakening.
One: With hearts extending in many directions, Let us pray…Sacred Sustainer, Way to wholeness, Creator of possibilities, Supporter of change, Forgiving Releaser, Freedom, Honesty, Wisdom, Hope, Joy…we thank You for the beautiful spiritual tool on which we are standing…” [27]

Geoffrion suggests other reflective meditations for the labyrinth, including short prayers from the “Christian Tradition,” “Egyptian Tradition,” “Hindu Tradition,” and “Sufi Tradition” [28].

——————–

For Christians holding to the exclusive message of Jesus Christ in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” a serious rift is now encountered. It’s the dilemma that exists between what Geoffrion’s first quote described verses the religious pluralism that the labyrinth appears to propagate. And because of the nature and metaphysical history of the labyrinth, this spiritual pluralism is inescapable. However, this ever-widening religious inclusiveness – which is the expression of the esoteric idea of the Fatherhood of God – shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, in the labyrinth experience every path is relevant, every road is right, every religion is valid.

—————–

Grace [Cathedral], San Francisco’s prominent Episcopal Church, has been North America’s “pathfinder” congregation in the labyrinth movement, hosting prayer walks on their two labyrinths for years. Moreover, Grace’s outdoor labyrinth is open 24 hours, and the church now has an involved global networking organization dedicated to advancing the labyrinth experience. Hence, Grace has been viewed by many Christian labyrinth advocates as the driving influence for this new spiritual expression in North America.

There’s no doubt that one reason for Grace Cathedral’s success is their connection to Chartres Cathedral in France. As an ancient medieval church, Chartres hosts an original pattern that is today’s recognized prototype for the Christian prayer walk. Grace meticulously copied Chartres, has marketed it very well, and is now a major spokes-church for the Chartres experience. Consider Grace’s website titled “Walking the Labyrinth: Reflections from Chartres, “A profound meditation tool, a metaphor for the spiritual path, a feminist Christian icon, a symbol of Mary or even all Christianity, even perhaps an almost cult-like centerpiece of a movement – the labyrinth is, most everyone can agree, a powerful inspiration.” [29]

The labyrinth exercise, Grace further explains, should be viewed in three parts,

“Purgation (Releasing) ~ A releasing, a letting go of the details of your life. This is the act of shedding thoughts and distractions. A time to open the heart and quiet the mind.
Illumination (Receiving) ~ When you reach the center, stay there as long as you like. It is a place of meditation and prayer. Receive what is there for you to receive.
Union (Returning) ~ As you leave, following the same path out of the center as you came in, you enter the third stage, which is joining God, your Higher Power, or the healing forces at work in the world. Each time you walk the labyrinth you become more empowered to find and do the work you feel your soul reaching for.” [32]
As an institution, Grace is no ordinary church. Not only has it been extremely influential in propagating the labyrinth prayer walk, it has been a hotbed for global interfaith work.
In the 1990’s William Swing was Bishop of Grace. During the 1995 United Nations 50th Anniversary, Swing proclaimed that Grace would work towards the building of a global interfaith network. After an intense amount of travel and lobbying, Swing succeeded in forming the United Religions Initiative – one of the world’s leading UN affiliated inter-religious partnerships. Today, the URI is an active player in advancing global religious unity.

Why does this matter? Remember all the connections between various esoteric philosophies with the labyrinth concept? A parallel runs between both themes; Unity. As a spiritual interface, and as Grace Cathedral reminded us, the mystical labyrinth belongs to “all religions traditions.”

Grace is open about the deeper meanings of the labyrinth. On the front piece to their labyrinth website, Grace states,

“The Labyrinth is an archetype, a divine imprint, found in all religious traditions in various forms around the world. By walking a replica of the Chartres labyrinth, laid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France around 1220, we are rediscovering a long-forgotten mystical tradition that is insisting to be reborn.” [30]

—————-

Reiki Master Kate McManus, in her article “Walking the Fire Labyrinth,” tells of her friend’s spiritual journey.

“This year a friend mentioned an event that was to be held further out west a week after our winter magic festival. She described it as a fire labyrinth ritual in which a stone labyrinth would be lit at night to be walked with conscious intent and so mark the end of the year and begin a new one, a shedding of the old and birthing of the divine child.” [35]

————

In an earlier quote by the Rev. Jill Geoffrion, she proclaimed that “God is blessing the use of the labyrinth; many are being drawn closer to Jesus, experiencing healing and gaining spiritual clarity as they pray on its path.”

On the surface this sounds great. But is God really blessing this “new thing”? Moreover, can God bless something that has its origins in esoteric doctrine and ancient pagan mythologies? Adding to its historical pagan significance is the fact that the labyrinth has never lost its occult meaning. As mentioned earlier in the article, labyrinths are still being used, and will continue to be used, as an instrument of pagan spirituality.

If God is going to bless labyrinth prayer journeys, how is He going to deal with Deuteronomy 12:1-14, 18:9-13 and Exodus 34:10-17? In each of these Scripture passages God explicitly tells His people to refrain from anything used in pagan practices. Moreover, the entire book of Jeremiah is a warning against involvement in alternative religious practices.

Furthermore, if God is going to bless labyrinth prayer journeys, how is He going to excuse the interfaith aspect that is common throughout the movement? John 14:6 clearly states that the only path to the Father is through Jesus Christ, and by no other way.

Yes, the majority of Christians would affirm that their labyrinth prayer walk is completely focused on Jesus Christ. That may be true, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that the labyrinth is, by its theological nature, an inter-religious and deeply mystical device. If God is going to bless the labyrinth experience, how is He going to deal with 2 Corinthians 6:14-16?

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?…”

About a half hour before the Green Spring Gardens plant sale was to close this past Saturday, the Virginia Master Gardeners booth started hawking all of their plants as “ten for $10.” Yep…some of the same plants I had purchased about two hours earlier for $5+, much to my chagrin. Reasonable prices before, yes, but at $1 each—what gardener in their right mind would possibly pass on that offer? Never mind if we’ve run out of space in our gardens—they’re a dollar! Just a dollar! We’ve discovered that some of the vendors do that each year so they don’t have to drag all the unsold items back to wherever they originated…and I am only too happy to help them lighten their load.

My 10-for-10 purchases included:

Oenothera Lemon Drop, common name ‘Evening Primrose’—a low-maintenance, herbaceous perennial that blooms in full sun from June-September. This perennial is tough, tolerates poor soil, and loves the sun. Bright yellow blooms all summer. Deadheading is not necessary, it’s drought and heat tolerant and grows 8-12″ tall. It can also be grown in containers, where it will trail over the sides. And of course I already have some of these in my front yard garden, courtesy of our friend Micheline, who shared them with us when she downsized houses a few years ago. There was a large bank of these cheery flower blooming profusely in her backyard garden. Photo courtesy of Missouri Botanical Garden PlantFinder.

One sorta sad-looking (had to rescue it, though) Japanese Aneomone or Windflower (Anemone hupehensis)–-the tag indicates the flowers will be pinkish/mauve, so this might be the variety ‘September Charm.’ This perennial plant bears poppy-like flowers in September and October. The plants reach a height of four to five feet with each flower having five or more petal-like sepals that enclose the golden stamens. The leaves turn wine-red in autumn. Wish this plant luck—it will need it! Photo © Cindy Dyer.

Two White Wood Asters (Aster divaricatus)—also known as ‘Eastern Star’—perennial herbaceous native to the eastern U.S. Grows 1-3 feet high with 3/4 to 1-inch white ray flowers that bloom profusely from August to September. The center of each flat-top flower starts yellow then ages to a reddish purple hue. The leaves are heart-shaped, stalked and sharply-toothed. White Wood Asters grow in part shade to full shade, are low-growing and low maintenance, and attract butterflies. They thrive in dry shade but become lush in moist soil. Cut hard at least once in spring to set the foliage back. Photo courtesy of Missouri Botanical Garden PlantFinder.

Viola striata (other common names: Striped cream violet, Common white violet, Pale violet, Striped violet)—native perennial herb blooms white and purple flowers April through June. Requires part shade and moist, loamy soil. This plant spreads through its rhizomes. Flowers attract bee flies, butterflies (particularly caterpillars of Fritillary butterflies and several species of moths) and skippers. Seeds are eaten by mourning doves, wild turkeys, mice, and rabbits.

I should be punished for purchasing another Maximilian sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani). I bought the same plant four years ago because I thought it would be perfect at the bottom of the steps of our front porch. The plant label purported, “cheery little yellow flowers on 4 ft. stems.” Four feet tall—nice size for the front entrance, right? By the end of the summer, visitors were asking us if we were growing corn in the front yard. We measured it and the tallest stalk was about 12 feet high! I just did some research and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center site claims they grow 3-10 ft. high. What kind of wild range is that? (Imagine this scenario: Officer: Ma’am, how tall was the man who stole your wheelbarrow? Me: Ummm…he was three feet tall….then again, he might have been ten feet tall. I can’t be certain!) The plant grows Jack-in-the-Beanstalk high and then very late in the summer it sprays forth masses of miniature (2-3 inches across) yellow sunflowers that are at their most beautiful when they sway against a cornflower blue sky. And if I really want to get some good closeup shots of the blooms, I have to drag out the tall ladder to do so! Did I need another of these plants? No. But it was only a buck! Anyone have room in their garden for it? Photo © Cindy Dyer.

Globe Thistle (Echinops ritro)—Clump-forming herbaceous perennial with coarse, prickly leaves (and how!) with 1-2 ball-shaped silvery-lavender-blue or dark blue flowerheads blooming in early to late summer on rigid branching stems 24-48 inches tall. These beautiful ornamentals grow best in full sun to mostly sunny areas, attract bees and butterflies, are good for cut flowers (and dried bouquets as well), will tolerate the heat and are deer resistant. And yes, I already have one—it’s about three years old and is the size of a small shrub already. I expect a plethora of blooms this season. Photo © Cindy Dyer.

Snow-on-the-Mountain (Euphorbia marginata)—I photographed this beautiful annual plant at Green Spring Gardens last year and posted the images on my blog here. A member of the spurge family, it flowers in the summer. Reaching 18-24 inches high, it requires sun to partial shade, and will attracts a plethora of butterflies, moths, bees, wasps and other insects—a veritable photographic smorgasbord! Now I’ll have one of my very own…once I find a place to plant it, that is. Folks, it was just a dollar, remember? Photo © Cindy Dyer.

Whorled Milkweed (Asclepias verticillata)—This tough native is deer-resistant and provides food for larval butterflies. Clusters of sweet-scented white flowers appear on 1-2 foot stalks in June and July. Whorled milkweed can be found in prairies, pastures, open woods and by the roadside. Learn more about attracting Monarch butterflies to your garden (and purchase milkweed seeds, too) at www.happytonics.org, owned by my friend, Mary Ellen Ryall.

‘Ostfriesland’ Salvia (Salvia nemorosa)—also known as Violet Sage, Ornamental Meadow Sage, Perennial Woodland Sage—this sun-loving herbaceous perennial grows 12-18 inches high with fragrant violet-blue flowers blooming from summer to autumn. Attractive to bees, butterflies and birds, and deer resistant. I couldn’t find this version in my files or a suitable one to reprint, so I’m showing a similar salvia I photographed at Butchart Gardens. Photo © Cindy Dyer

This Is Lunenburg Lunenburg was founded in 1753 and was named in honour of the King of Great Britain

This Is Lunenburg

Lunenburg was founded in 1753 and was named in honour of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, (George August of Hanover) who was also the ruler of Brunswick-Lunenburg. During the French and Indian War, several small forts which ringed the town were garrisoned by British regulars as well as by provincial troops from Massachusetts. These forts were erected to protect the town from raids by French warships and from attacks by the local Indians. During the initial settlement of the community there was a short-lived rebellion called the Hoffman Insurrection.

At one time an important seaport and shipbuilding centre, the town is now home to numerous small businesses, high-tech industries including Composites Atlantic and HB Studios, and trade plants including High Liner Foods, which was at one point the largest fish plant in Canada. This plant now handles little more than manufacturing and most fishing is done offshore.

Lunenburg is the birthplace of the world famous schooner Bluenose and her daughter Bluenose II which remains an important tourist attraction in the town, her home port. Tourism is now Lunenburg’s most important industry and many thousands visit the town each year. A number of restaurants, inns, hotels and shops exist to service the tourist trade including the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic.

The original inhabitants of Lunenburg (mostly Germans from the southern Rhineland, Swiss and French Protestants from Montbeliard) came during the same wave of immigration that produced the Pennsylvania Dutch. They were “Foreign Protestants” encouraged by the British to settle in the area. Many of the original families (such as the Zwickers, the Tanners and the Smiths) and their descendants still inhabit and influence the development of the town today.

I opened the door of this rustic building along the shore of Lunenburg Harbour to discover this timeless Dory sailboat workshop, wow!!!!

The fishing vessel Chockle Cap is owned and operated by Adams & Knickle Limited of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. She is one of the company’s scallop draggers and has been plying the waters of George’s Bank and Southwest Nova Scotia for 22 years.

Lunenburg Shipyard and Adams & Knickle have been doing business for a century. The shipyard acts as a partner in the scallop business by drydocking and maintaining their vessels on an annual basis.

The Chockle Cap is one of the last wooden fishing vessels on the East Coast of Canada and therefore requires special skills to keep her properly maintained. Lunenburg Shipyard is proud of the partnership with local companies to keep vessels like the Chockle Cap fishing for many years to come.

Keith, owner of the Eastern Star, is restoring this classic, 48 foot Danish wooden sailboat. Keith hopes to have the Eastern Star back in the water in May of this year, just in time for the tourism season in Lunenburg.

Derrik left the Lunenburg Harbour at 4am to go fishing for Lobster, and I met up with him 12 hours later with his catch. A single plastic fish tub, “not even worth going out for that many Lobster!” More and more these days it seems fishing is more of a hobby then a business.

I would like to thank everyone who prayed for me and my ministry team this past weekend. God greatly blessed us with two wonderful meetings. On Saturday night we were with Pastor Jake Kilgus at the Living Bread of Life Ministry in Blackville, SC. I spoke on the subject, “Is Freemasonry A Religion?” This message will soon be available on DVD for those who would like to hear it.

On Sunday afternoon we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas meal, and a time of great fellowship, with the friends of Living Bread of Life Ministry. Jake and Teresa Kilgus were the perfect host. The ministry team members of the Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism love and appreciate the Kilgus household, and all our friends at LBLM.

On Sunday night we traveled to the Allendale Correctional Institution over at Fairfax, SC, where our ministry team was in charge of the evening service. The Holy Spirit rained down His blessings and anointing upon us, and we had church! One precious soul came forward to publically receive Christ as His personal Saviour! Another man came forward and rededicated his life to Christ. Many other needs were met. We thank God for all that He did, and ask that you pray the seed planted will take hold of a good root.

Gospel Lighthouse Prison Evangelism is scheduled to minister inside the Kershaw Correctional Institution on December 27th, and I am scheduled to be on the Peggy Denny Show to talk about the ever growing problem of crime and our youth on January 13. In the meantime, I plan to put out some new tracts and sermons. We have just picked up our newest tract from the printer, “What Did The Masons Do In 1962?” I will gladly mail a free copy to anyone who will send me a SASE. Mail your request to: Evangelist J.W. Stansell, PO Box 1146, Pickens, SC 29671-1146.

My wife and I got home from our weekend ministry trip about 4am Monday morning. Around 6 or 6:30 I woke up with a severe cramp that had one foot twisted sideways, and ran all the way up into my thigh. It was very painful, and it took quite some time to get it to stop. I had several other cramps in the next few hours, and my back was in severe pain. Around 9am a Mason was knocking on my door. This same Mason, along with a friend of his, would follow my son to work later in the day, and harass him in the plant’s parking lot. This was all very upsetting. This morning my son and I went to the Post Office. My son went in and checked the mail, and I sat in the car. I was verbally assaulted as I sat in my car by the very same Mason. This man was once my best friend when I was involved in Freemasonry. It has broken my heart. Please pray for his salvation.

Signs of the times are being fulfilled everywhere you look. Jesus is coming very soon. We must work the harvest field and fulfill the Great Commission while we still can. One day soon, right here in America, it will be illegal for Christians to witness and to spread the Gospel. Preachers will risk going to prison for preaching against sin. The true church will have to go underground. Let us work while we still can. Keep us in your prayers, and keep on keeping on for Jesus! God bless you dear friends.

These people will stop at nothing! I saw this on a local TV station, WJBF Channel 6 out of Augusta GA. It was on a “Toys for Tots” promotion and the Masons are shown as a sponsor of this ID Chip for your children, under the quise of “Protecting GA Children”. Now let me make one thing clear, they are not doing implants at this time, but I think anyone can see how this just opens the door for a later time where this can happen.

The New York education system had adopted a school prayer to be said before the start of each day’s classes. This prayer promoted good moral character, provided spiritual training, and helped combat juvenile delinquency. The regents wrote a school prayer that was non-sectarian or denominational. In fact, it was so bland that it became known as the “to whom it may concern prayer.” Here it is: “Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our Country.”

On June 25, 1962, in the Engel v. Vitale case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-1 that the prayer practice violated the establishment clause of the First Amendment. Justice Felix Frankfurter and Justice Byron R. White did not vote in this case. Out of the remaining seven Justices, the following six voted against the simple prayer: Earl Warren, Hugo L. Black, Thomas C. Clark, William O. Douglas, William J. Brennan, Jr., and John M. Harlan. Only Justice Potter Stewart dissented.

Here is where it gets interesting. Four out of the six Justices that voted against prayer, and therefore voted God out of the public school system, were Freemasons. These Masonic Justices were Warren [Sequoia Lodge #349, Oakland, CA], Clark [Washington Lodge #1117, Dallas, TX], Douglas [Mt. Adams Lodge #227, Yakima, WA], and Black [Raised in Ashland Lodge #356, Ashland, AL and later became a life member of Birmingham Temple Lodge #636, Birmingham, AL].

Because of the Supreme Court’s decision in 1962 and 1963, prayer in assemblies was banned in all American public schools, and this would eventually lead the way to banning the Bible too. So what did the Masons do in 1962? They helped kick God out of America’s public schools. I want you to really think about that and then re-read the two Bible verses that I started this tract with. Then consider the facts:

Before the Masons helped to remove prayer from schools, polls among educators listed the top offences in public schools as: talking; chewing gum; making noise; running in the halls; getting out of turn in line; wearing improper clothing; and not putting paper in wastebaskets. After prayer was removed from schools, polls among educators listed the top offences in public schools as: rape; robbery; assault; burglary; arson; bombings; murder; suicide; absenteeism; vandalism; extortion; drug abuse; alcohol abuse; gang warfare; pregnancies; abortions; and venereal disease. Plus, SAT scores have steadily declined since 1962.

The banning of prayer in assemblies also affected our families. Stability existed in the family during the years that students prayed daily for their families, however, since praying for families was banned: Divorce went up almost 120 percent; single parent families went up 140 percent; unmarried couples living together increased over 350 percent; and adultery increased nearly 300 percent.

The banning of prayer in assemblies affected the state of our nation. Since the Masons helped to kick God out of our public schools in 1962,the rate of violent crime has risen over 500 percent, national productivity has dropped over 80 percent, and the per capita alcohol consumption has increased by 35 percent. Post 1962-63, America leads the western world in teenage pregnancies and highest illiteracy rates. We are now the world leaders in violent crime, divorce, and illegal drug use. And by removing any reference to God, you remove references to respect for authority (including teachers); absolute values used to condemn disrespect, adultery, covetousness, theft, murder, etc. replacing them with relativism and secular humanism – hence the resultant moral mess of removing prayer from school assemblies.

So we see the results of the Supreme Court’s decision, starting back in 1962, to remove God from our public schools. Please remember that 4 of the 6 Justices who voted God out of our schools were Freemasons. They had the power to keep God in our schools, thus keeping that sacred hedge around our nation, but the Masons decided to stand against prayer and God. What did the Masons do in 1962? They set our nation on a one way ride into Hell. This proves that Freemasonry has a demonic force driving it.

Some may ask, “How can the simple eradication of prayer lead to so much damage?” The answer is quite clear- It removes God’s blessing. God will honor those who honor Him, and God will disregard those that disregard Him (1 Samuel 2:30). “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6).

The Bible says: “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17). “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
