Peter Hall's comments "misinterpreted"

Nantwich Town marksman Michael Lennon said their impressive win at Eastwood was not a backlash against “drinking culture” allegations.

Lennon, who scored in the 3-0 FA Trophy victory on Saturday, said players were desperate to put on a good performance after recent poor results.

But he said the “drinking culture” story in the local Crewe Chronicle newspaper came about from coach Peter Hall’s misinterpreted comments.

“That story had nothing to do with it. The Chronicle misinterpreted the gaffer’s comments and he was the first to speak to all the players and clear the misunderstanding up,” Lennon told Nantwichnews.

“It was put to bed the day after the story. Saturday’s result was more a backlash from recent performances.

“And yes, it was by far our best performance of the season.

“We looked solid defensively all game and attacked as a team, which we have not been doing.

“It makes a huge difference when everyone wants the ball and we attack in numbers.”

Although Nantwich are mid-table in the Unibond Premier League, players are still confident they can challenge for promotion.

“We are still in with a shout for the league,” said Lennon.

“It’s so open but we need to be more consistent as we have proven we can beat teams of a higher standard comfortably.”

Nantwich Town produced one of the performances of the season to defeat Eastwood Town 3-0 away in the FA Trophy.

The Dabbers faced a team flying high one division above in the Blue Square North in the 3rd qualifying road tie.

But in a 30-minute period in the first half, Peter Hall’s side stunned their hosts with three goals to kill the contest off.

Michael Lennon opened the scoring in the 11th minute, before Liam Dawson doubled the advantage in the 23rd.

And five minutes before the break, the contest was effectively all over when the pacy Sam Madeley made it 3-0.

Nantwich’s scheduled Unibond League Challenge Cup clash at home to Matlock Town this Tuesday has been moved .

This 3rd round game will now be played on Tuesday December 8.

yesterday i was not happy john.  more ticked off than usual.  had to run to roll call, etc. bad mark in essay.  surprise test in history.  electro gum.  yearlies next week.  i’m not going to pretend i’m not stressing like everyone else.  what annoys me is that i can’t do stuff like read books without feeling guilty.

i really want to write down/post what makes me angry, but you’ve probably already read raging posts and i can’t rationalise what i feel like right now and what i’ve been doing.  plus, we need a bit of cheer!  happy thoughts happy thoughts happy thoughts

today at school they were selling all this ‘halloween’ stuff.  everybody got fairy floss and toffee apples and stuff.  i don’t think i’ve ever had a toffee apple.  i love fairy floss machines, they’re fun.  i have a newfound craving for chupa chups.  because they’re the best lollipop.

okay went shopping, first had easyway and egyptian food at eastwood.  tip: if you ever have blended ice easyway, don’t get pearls.  went shopping at parramatta.  everybody dresses the same there, in particular the women.  had to watch my brother at the kids playland thing, and felt sick because of the fumes from the pet store which smelt like head lice killer.

i am amazed and envious of how children can make friends so easily.

The trailer for the upcoming Eastwood movie Invictus is doing the rounds on the interwebs, and already it is causing some debate. I agree with my friend Sean Jacobs’ take on the movie. You can expect a lot of PR fluff to hit the screens and the airwaves soon. I will reserve judgement until I’ve seen it, but the accents on the trailer look crappy and the schmaltz is dripping from every frame. Many prospective viewers will probably paint critics of the movie as sour spoilsports.  I don’t think the fact that the movie is of the ‘feel good’  variety is the big problem.(Of course the rush to a feel-good ending usually leads to the type of artistic license which skims over complexities and nuance). I was a rookie journalist at the opening game of the 1995 World Cup and I can tell you I still get goose bumps thinking about it. But the problem seems to me that the movie (like, presumably, the book by John Carlin on which it was based, which admittedly I have not read) privileges the white narrative of reconciliation – as if democracy was all about white people coming to grips with their own prejudices and – even! – allow black people onto the field of their most hallowed of identity-building rituals, the rugby field.  It would probably be less critical of the compromises made by the majority in the reconciliation process. South African rugby is still triumphant, 14 years after that game. But too many other things  have not changed either.

I had heard a lot about this movie, but hadn’t got a chance to see it until recently. It is directed by and stars Clint Eastwood as a Korean War veteran who has just lost his wife and now lives alone. To say that he is grumpy would be an understatement. He is very prejudiced to the people who live around him, and he has no problem letting people know it. An asian family moves in next door and that begins an unlikely relationship after the young boy tries to steal Clint’s prized possession, his Gran Torino. The rest of the film involves Eastwood forging a bond with this boy and his family and protecting them from the violence that exists in their lives. I enjoyed the film, however, the language is pretty coarse and can be very racist. So if you don’t like that I would avoid watching the film. Otherwise it was decent.

Iniziamo con un omaggio a tre protagonisti dello “Spaghetti western”: Giuliano Gemma, Franco Nero e il grande Clint Eastwood.

I film in questione sono: Una pistola per Ringo (1964), Django (1966) e Per un pugno di dollari (1964), diretti da tre maetri del genere: Duccio Tessari, Sergio Corbucci e Sergio Leone, quest’ultimo assolutamente geniale.

Clint Eastwood was awarded yesterday a lifetime achievement award from the Lyon Film Festival.

The Lyon film festival is renowned throughout Europe for bringing works back to life, tributes and feature invitations. It is also commonly considered the European centre of film because it was once home to Louis and Auguste Lumiere, the brothers who invented cinema in 1895. The Lyon film festival is in many respects a tribute to these two famous French brothers.

This year the star guest was Clint Eastwood who was offered a commemorative plaque in front of 5000 guests for his contribution to cinema. Eastwood walked calmly up to the stage and thanked Lyon for the honour. Despite seemingly not knowing who the Lumiere brothers were, he thanked them for their cinematic discoveries and stated “I owe them 50 some years of employment”. In return for the great honour bestowed upon him, Eastwood brought a clip of his latest movie ‘Invictus’ which is due to be released in the US in December. Eastwood has since been seen at the opening of football match Lyon vs Sochaux at football stadium Gerland and various other venues throughout the city.
