Well, since most of us are stuck home due to the storm, you might want to get a head start on those Valentine’s you will need for Thursday!

I stumbled on a couple more great DIY craft for V-day while I was checking out PB Kids!

I promise this first one is super easy! All you need is construction paper, scissors, lollipops and glue or tape!

PLUS, these crafts could be great to do at a birthday party, at school, or just as an activity any time of year…

Blooming Heart Lollipops
This fun craft combines the very best of Valentine’s Day – heart shapes and sweet flavors. Kids will love making their own delicious valentines to hand out to friends, family, classmates and neighbors.

Plus, it looks so simple!

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Disc-shaped lollipops

Construction paper in green and pink (or other colors in addition to pink)

Glue dots (available at crafts stores) or a glue stick

Scissors

1. Cut enough hearts out of your pink (or other color) paper so that you have one for each lollipop. We recommend making them just big enough to accommodate the lollipop wrapping, so the colorful candy looks like a flower center. Cut two small green leaves per lollipop. Make sure to give each leaf a slightly elongated “stem” that can be wrapped around the lollipop stick.

2. Use glue dots or a dab from the glue stick to affix a heart to each lollipop. Wrap leaf stems firms around the lollipop sticks and fix in place with glue dots or glue.

My own spin would be to add a message on the heart or on the leaves! Maybe you could write on one leaf who it is for and on the other leaf who it is from…

You could even write a message in the heart such as, “My heart blooms for you…”

Here is Amber, Ava and their cousin Jenna (from left to right). It maybe took an hour for all 3 of them to do 50….

One more pretty easy one that is also on PB Kids website!

Heart Wreath

Rosey colors and heart shapes are all it takes to create a little Valentine’s Day cheer. This easy project is fun to do with kids and makes a festive decoration for home parties or classroom celebrations.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Chenille stems (also known as pipe cleaners) in red and pink

Wire cutter

1. You may want to play around with a chenille stem or two to decide what size hearts you want to make and whether you’ll need to trim the stems slightly. Gently form a hook shape (like the top of a candy cane) at one end of a chenille stem, and an inch or two below it pinch the stem into a tight V shape. Form another hook an inch or two up the free end of the stem, use your wire cutters to trim it if necessary, and then give the two ends one or two twists to secure them together.

2. If you trimmed off some of the length of your stem, use that to measure and cut 10 or more additional stems to the length you desire. (Or go freestyle: you could also make a pretty wreath out of hearts in several sizes.) Before forming each stem into a heart, slip it through a heart on your growing wreath so they’re linked together.

Celebrate the sweetest day of the year!

Hope these crafts help you keep your kids busy! Everyone stay safe!

A Fall Pumpkin

Halloween has come and gone, but Thanksgiving is still to come. Fall has arrived so that means it’s pumpkin time!! Look how cute this pumpkin is and wouldn’t it be perfect to decorate your home, office, desk, etc. Great idea for a place card on turkey day, just write the name of your guest on the mini tag instead of the word “fall”.

This project is made with several sizes of accordion medallions.

Gather your supplies: card stock or patterned paper (we used patterned paper), felt, wire, tag, twine and twig

First cut your strips of paper. Here are the sizes and number of each:

1″ x 12″ – one; 1-1/4″ x 12″ – two; 1-1/2″ x 12″ – three

Score all pieces every 1/4″.

Next, create your medallions. Using a large pop-up glue dot (or hot glue) use a 1-1/4″ punched circle to hold these together. We used the same color of patterned paper on the top circle so it blends in.

Then using the glue gun again, stack the circles in the following order. Starting at the bottom, a 1-1/4″ medallion; then, three 1-1/2″ medallions; then, a 1-1/4″ medallion. Leaving the 1″ medallion for the top.

To create the top of your pumpkin: Once your pumpkin is assembled, we used a paper piercing tool to poke a hole in the top circle only so that the twig fits down in the circle. Hot glue it in the hole. Attach the felt leaves, wire and attach a tag. We hand wrote “fall” on the tag but of course, you could stamp or write anything.

When you finish, you have a very cute pumpkin.

And there you have it. Maybe not real quick (it takes a little time to score and fold each layer) but definitely worth it.

I thought it might be fun to bring you a weekly mini project that is simple, inexpensive, and fun to make. This week’s Monday Mini Project is from How About Orange. {Click on the link to go to the tutorial.} These bow tie paper clips from fabric scraps make great bookmarks. I use them to mark recipes in my cookbooks. I also clip them onto file folders so I can quickly and easily find my most used files, because if there is anything I hate more than taking photos for this blog, it’s filing!

If you really want to shave time off this project, use this modification:

1. Use lace ribbon instead of fabric.

2. Loop the lace through the paperclip.

3. Tie left tail over right and pull tight. That’s it. Seriously easy, huh?

The {crappy} photo’s below show the result using the lace ribbon.
