No comprometa mi trabajo!”

En la antigua mitología griega existía el personaje de Argos Panoptes, que era un gigante con cien ojos. Era un guardián muy efectivo, porque sólo algunos de sus ojos dormían en cada momento, habiendo siempre varios otros aún despiertos. Resulta que Zeus mandó a Hermes (by the way, ¡que corbatas!

Chitika is a comptetive advertising company and here we will review Chitika.

Source:http://www.clickfire.com/chitika-review/

Banner ads just seem to get deader and deader every day. A young upstart company called “Chitika” has just supplied the eulogy and a few sharp coffin nails to the once hot banner ads of the 1990’s. Chitika goes far beyond the static banner ad concept and into the world of contextual advertising made popular by the Google AdSense program introduced in 2003. The antithesis of the pop-up ad, contextual advertising from Chitika targets the content of the page on which the ad is placed, then displays advertising relevant to that page’s topic. If your visitors are pouring over an article about MP3 audio technology, they won’t see an ad for cosmetics. You can guess what they will see!

WHO IS CHITIKA?

The sexy sounding name Chitika (pronounced CHIH-tih-ka) has nothing to do with bananas. Chitika was created by Venkat Kolluri (formerly of Upromise) and Alden DoRosario (formerly with Terra Lycos). The company appeared out of nowwhere in May 2003 to become a leading player in the emerging industry of contextual advertising. Chitika announced the release of eMiniMalls in June of 2005.

WHAT IS CHITIKA EMINIMALLS?

Chitika eMiniMalls is described a million different ways on the Chitika web site and by enthusiastic webmasters. Among them are “Interactive merchandising service” and the “intelligent and interactive online product merchandising kiosks.” The creative term, “eMinimalls” does a great job of describing the service for everyone. To the webmaster, Chitika eMiniMalls is a snippet of code placed on a site that can target ads to the content and pay each time the ad is clicked by a visitor. To the web site visitor, Chitika eMiniMalls is an interactive informative ad related to the page being viewed.

THE EMINIMALLS AD

What makes the Chitika eMiniMalls ads so irrestably clickable is it’s visual appeal, content and functionality. Part graphical, part textual and part interactive, the eMiniMalls ad scarcely resembles a traditional banner ad. The lightweight eMiniMall “ad unit” presents viewers with options for whatever buying stage they happen to be in via mouseover tabs. The effect is to pack a enough information inside the ad unit–product description, graphic, and review along with comparative shopping info and search box–that the potential buyer gets something userful without having to leave the site. The eMiniMalls ad gives a much more endearing user experience than static text links or graphic ads that fire off a quick sales pitch and call to action. With the mouseover tabs, the user doesn’t even have to make the commitment of a mouse click to get some benefit.

WHAT ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE?

Chitika eMiniMalls promises to “outshine static banner ads” and give webmasters the power to “generate revenue beyond banner advertising.” Got a low performing, high traffic Google AdSense site? Run a split test and see which one performs better. Performance will vary depending on the types of site conten, ad inventory and bid prices. Chitika eMiniMalls ads can be displayed on the same page with Google AdSense ads if the contextual function is turned off with a line of code (ch_non_contextual = 1;). This is currently the the default.

At the time of this writing, webmasters are paid 60% of ad revenue generated. Webmasters tend to appreciate the disclosure of the payout percentage. Chitika makes payments 30 days after month end in US Dollars to the a publisher’s PayPal account once the balance reaches $50. Webmasters can run Chitika eMinimalls on mulitple web sites as long as the terms and conditions are met.

We’ve come a long way from banner ads. Who’s looking back!

CY’s Chicken Casserole

Ingredients

1 tbs olive oil

25g (1oz) butter

8 chicken thighs

2 onions, peeled and chopped

1 garlic clove, crushed

2 celery sticks, trimmed and chopped

25g (1oz) plain flour

300ml (1/2 pint) dry cider

150ml (1/4 pint) chicken stock

1 tbs Worcestershire Sauce

Salt

Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Bouquet Garni

Preparation time is about 15mins and cooking time is about 1hr15mins. Serves 4 people.

Procedure:

1) Heat the oil and butter together in a flameproof casserole dish (or an ovenproof dish) and fry the chicken pieces until browned all over. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and put to one side. Add the onion, garlic and celery to the fat remaining in the pan and fry gently for 4-5 minutes until soft and lightly coloured. Sprinkle the flour into the onions and cook for 1minute, stirring.

2) Remove from the heat and gradually blend in the cider, chicken stock, and Worcestershire Sauce. Return to the heat, bring to the boil and simmer for 1 minute, stirring. Add salt and pepper to taste.

3) Return the chicken to the pan and add the bouquet garni. Cover closely with a lid or foil and cook in a pre-heated oven for 50-60 minutes or until the chicken is very tender. If the sauce looks a little thin, reduce it by gently boiling. Seasoning is everything, little by little – don’t overdo it!

4) Serve with really creamy mash – so, boil Maris Piper potatoes (about 6 large ones) until tender. Bung in about 2oz of butter and unfortunately (to make it taste a million times better) buy a small pot of double cream and throw in half. If you can buy a packet of chives as well, snip them and put them in and put them in after you’ve really mashed the butter and the cream into the potato as well. Season the potatoes properly, taste as you go – cannot emphasize enough, little by little. You choose your veg to serve it with!

Perfect for this weather, really delicious, not wildly expensive. What more can you ask for?! It may not be a ‘trendy’ recipe but it’s bloody good! Any problems get in touch with Colonel Yum. Good luck E.M. – don’t burn down the house!

I was sick and in need of some easy and good comfort food. Even though there wasn’t a great deal in the fridge, thankfully there was chicken stock and chicken breast in the freezer, and a carrot in the fridge. This porridge made me feel miles better. It’s so easy to make it probably doesn’t really need a recipe, but he goes anyway.

Ingredients:

½ cup rice
2 cups chicken stock
1 carrot, sliced
1 chicken breast
fried shallots

Method:

Add the rice and chicken stock to the rice cooker. Slide the carrots atop the rice and sit the chicken breast above the carrots.

Start the rice cooker. Check back every few minutes. Fish out the chicken breast once the mixture boils and set it aside.

When the chicken has cooled, shred it.

After about 20 minutes, check on the porridge. The carrots should be soft and the rice cooked. If it’s turned into rice, simply add water and stir till you get the right consistency.

Add salt, soy sauce and sesame oil to taste. Top with fried shallots and serve.

I know what you are thinking. Who posts something like this on the evening before Thanksgiving?! You’ve already planned your menu, you’ve done your grocery shopping, heck, you’ve probably prepped half the meal! And here I am throwing something at you in the twelth hour. Twelth, is that a real word?

I’m sorry to do this to you, I am. But this really is a dead simple tart. And you might even have all the ingredients hanging around. If you didn’t have the cookies for the crust, you could easily sub in a pre-baked tart (pastry) crust. It’s the filling, all that smooth, creamy ganache, that makes this a star. And the fact that it comes together in no time, doesn’t require any space in the oven, and is perfect all by itself, or simply adorned with some whipped cream. And it pairs beautifully with pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and apple pie. And it really makes my sister in law happy, since she doesn’t like pie. *gasp*

This is almost the tart that I offer up at my business (I keep a few tricks up my sleeves!). Trust me, if you like chocolate even a little, then this is the one for you.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good night! Back on Friday with Sourdough, Part 2!

Chocolate Tart

10 ounces chocolate cookies (about 2.5 cups cookie crumbs)

1 stick butter (1/2 cup), melted

12 ounces semisweet chocolate

1-1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

1 Tbsp butter

1 tsp vanilla

dash salt

Grind cookies into fine crumbs in a food processor. Mix with 1 stick melted butter. Press into a 9-inch springform (cheesecake) or tart pan, making a 1/2 inch tall edge along the outside. Place pan in refrigerator for at least 3o minutes. In the top of a double boiler over barely simmering water, mix chocolate, cream, and butter. Stir every few minutes until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is completely smooth. When mixture is almost ready, remove tart pan from refrigerator and let come to room temperature. Remove the pan with the chocolate mixture from heat and stir in salt and vanilla. Allow to cool, stirring every few minutes, for about 10 minutes, until slightly thickened. Pour chocolate mixture into prepared crust and allow to set at room temperature, approximately 4 hours (or up to 1 day). Do not refrigerate; tart will lose it’s glossy shine if you do. Serve at room temperature with lightly sweetened whipped cream. Refrigerate leftovers (hah!) for up to 2 days. Serves 10 to 12, unless you eat like my husband, in which case, it serves 1.5.

Remove from oven. Flip it over, and place slices of Velveta cheese on top. Sprinkle parmesean cheese on top of that, and put back in the oven for 4 minutes more. My husband loves this stuff. I served it with baked spagetti, which he also loved, super easy and super delicious. We had a nice tossed salad with it too. Oh, yeah, I cut the bread slices in half diagonally. That way I had twice as many servings for my huge family. Enjoy! Pictures coming later, I got my camera back, but no memory card!

Wow, what a week it has been! I’ve been pushing my cooking boundaries already this week and I had to do it again today with the Tortillas. It’s been a busy few days and I lost a few hours to that little mishap. I’ve updated the index here again and I’m going to try to keep on top of it this time. I’m coming up on 100 recipes! Yes, there will be cake. I’m generally working hard to get this blog to be the best I can make it. I’m also hoping to also be able to participate in Adopt-A-Blogger #4 over at Dine & Dish which will hopefully mean improvements around here. But that’ll be after the christmas madness. I’m already preparing to go gourmet with the gifts this year. I have a bunch of recipes lying about that’ll be just perfect for so-and-so so I’m gearing up to get cracking with those. I hope you’re all getting ready for an excellent holiday season, I know I’ll be stepping up on the Christmas recipes any day now!

Anyway, on to tonight’s dinner! These Layered Enchiladas were just supposed to be ordinary enchiladas, however, due to the supermarket tortillas going off and my first attempt at tortillas turning out rather brittle I had to go for Layered Enchiladas. I have to say I am impressed with how well they turned out. Instead of having a wrap we each ended up with a slice of ‘enchilada pie’, which was actually really handy for portion control. This certainly went down well with my dad who asked for seconds, which is almost unheard of!

Serves 4

1 pack tortillas or make your own with my recipe here.
~200g grated cheese
500g passata
1 onion, chopped
1 large clove garlic, crushed
3 chicken breasts, sliced
1 tsp chilli powder
1 fresh red chilli, chopped
1×400g tin chopped tomatoes
1 tsp sugar
2 tbsp tomato puree
1 green pepper, chopped

- First make the sauce. Saute the onion and garlic with a pinch of salt in a little oil until soft.
- Then add the chicken and stir until cooked all over.
- Add the chilli powder and chopped chilli. Stir well.
- Pour in the chopped tomatoes with a little water to rinse out the tin.
- Add the sugar and tomato puree and stir until mixed.
- Bring to a simmer and add the green pepper.
- Simmer for 15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Assemble the enchiladas in a greased baking dish either in the traditional way or:
- Place a tortilla on the bottom of the baking dish and sprinkle lightly with grated cheese then add a few spoonfuls the sauce and spread over the tortilla.
- Add another tortilla on top. Pour a little passata over and spread over the tortilla. Sprinkle with cheese.
- Add another tortilla and sprinkle with cheese. Add sauce and spread out.
- Repeat alternating layers of sauce and passata until all of the tortillas have been used making the last layer passata covered with a good layer of cheese on the very top.
- Bake in a hot oven at gas mark 6 for around 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and everything warmed through.
- Serve in slices while hot. It’s really good with creme fraiche and avocado slices.

OK, so you know, I love LinkedIn and it has been source of opportunity and entertainment for more th

OK, so you know, I love LinkedIn and it has been source of opportunity and entertainment for more than two years. With more than 2000 first level connections I am probably one of Cape Breton’s most connected and I am always eager to get others on board. Why? First off it’s FREE!!! As a source of leads and opportunity, LinkedIn can keep you very busy. It also make it a gives you an opportunity to learn of others who may offer you a business opportunity in another part of the world or simply provide you a source for advice, employment, partners, products and a huge number of suspects that may be interested in your products or services.

Here are a few facts; LinkedIn has more than 50 Million users that represent 170 industries in 200 countries. This makes it a must for those looking to expand into other regions of the world. I have found opportunities and have earned a few $$$ myself by networking. The current contract my company has with a Rochester New York firm was the result of a chance meeting through LinkedIn. So here are the 5 easy steps:

Step 1 – Prepare

Here are a few things you should have ready before you start with LinkedIn. A Copy of your resume/CV, a digital photo that captures your essence, and I strongly suggest that you create a webmail account with Google, Yahoo or Hotmail to direct all email traffic. The unfortunate truth regarding LinkedIn is the fact that the larger your network the more email traffic that will come your way so be prepared.

You should also take a moment and create a summary of your life and experience as well as an outline of your specialties that you can quickly cut and paste into your profile.

Step 2 – Type www.linkedin.com into your Browser

I know, this is pretty simple, but now that you have completed step one creating your profile becomes a great deal easier. You will be asked to create an online resume that includes work experience, education and more personal notes under Summary and Specialties. Be sure to connect your company’s website and blog to your profile so people can get a better view of who you are and what your company does.

Step 3 – Build your Network

I suggest starting by inviting people you know to connect. This is truly the hallmark of LinkedIn and one can have their privileges revoked for inviting people you don’t know. I learned this the hard way when I started getting IDK’d which is lingo for “I Don’t Know”. You see, each time you invite someone to connect they can state that they don’t know you and these will be logged against your account. If you get too many IDKs you will lose the ability to invite people to connect with you. This will ultimately make LinkedIn useless to you.

Therefore start with your colleagues then expand out. If you wish to be very aggressive you should visit the Groups section and find groups relevant to you.

Step 4 – Join Groups

You are permitted to join a maximum of 50 LinkedIn groups and there are thousands. I currently own 2 and I am a manager of 2 others. Groups are a great place to find “Like Minded” people and make new connections as well as create a qualification point for potential customers, partners and experts. Oh yes, everyone is an Expert these days and as I type this, I am portraying myself as such. It comes down to “Shameless Self Promotion” and LinkedIn provides you with the proverbial “Soap Box” so don’t be shy.

I suggest that you start off and join your Alumni groups and connect with your University classmates or search out other industry associations that may bring you very useful information in a multitude of subjects. Be sure to share your knowledge and ask questions. This is a great way to meet people and build your network.

Step 5 – Set your Goals

I am a LION or LinkedIn Open Networker and I accept invites from all who request. I have chosen this path because of my sincere desire to build my network of connections. Ok, in reality not so benevolent. What this has done is afford me the ability to find the profiles of more than 14 million people through my 2300 First Degree connections. This is very important when you are prospecting for new business on a daily basis.

Your goals may be more specific so take some time to define the people and industries you wish to engage. Target your audience and start sharing your knowledge and drive people to your Blog, Twitter and website. LinkedIn can truly expand your world but always use common sense. Like all relationships you must earn trust and trust is to be earned. So use LinkedIn to qualify those with whom you intend to do business and never be afraid to request references and always remember “Knowledge is Power, Power Corrupts, Learn and be Evil!!!”

Flair-it straight stop valve 1/2″ x 3/8″ compression. Connects 1/2″ PEX or polybutylene and 3/8″ compression. Flair-it fittings are an excellent solution for do-it-yourself home plumbing repair. They require no special tools. Installation is easy: slide the nut along the PEX pipe, rock the fitting into the PEX pipe, slide the nut back along the pipe and hand tighten the nut onto the fitting. The double threaded nut will thread onto the pipe and the fitting, forming a tight seal. If the fitting leaks, tighten the nut a few more turns. You may need to use the flair-it wrench if you need additional leverage.

Thanksgiving comes and goes. You eat roast turkey to your little heart’s delight and your tumm

Thanksgiving comes and goes. You eat roast turkey to your little heart’s delight and your tummy’s sacrifice. You’ve packed your fridge with leftovers. The family is mostly gone. And the thought of another bite of straight turkey sends you running for the hills. What should you do with all that day old delicious meat?

Make some Turkey and Rice! That’s what I did and it was a hit! You’ve already done the toughest part, cooking the bird. The easy part is staring you dead in the face. So let’s get to it!

Ingredients
1/2 cp bacon, diced
1 large onion, diced
1/4 cp cilantro, chopped
1/4 cp parsley, chopped
4 cps cooked turkey meat, chopped
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3 cps rice
1 packet Knorr Sazón
4 cps broth or water
1 cp beer (or water if you don’t wish to use beer)
Sea salt to taste

Here’s what:
You will need a large saucepan with a tight-fitting lid. Cook the bacon until lightly brown, then add the onions and cook until they become translucent. Add the cilantro and parsley, after stirring it in add the turkey pieces. Remove all to a plate and set aside.

In the same saucepan, add the vegetable oil to heat up. In the meantime, rinse the rice. Once you have drained the rice, add it to the pan, stirring to coat it with the oil. Now add the packet of Sazón, making sure that the powder is evenly distributed on the grains of rice. Now add the liquid and check the salt, season as needed. Bring it to a boil without disturbing it.

Once the water is almost completely evaporated, add the turkey mix and cover with the lid. Lower the temperature to low and allow the rice to cook/steam for 30 minutes. At the end of the 30 minutes, incorporate the turkey into the rice and serve.
