Deer steak is awesome and so is the benefit of providing food for your family. God rest her soul, she was not shot in vein. We’ll say a prayer of thanks to God like always.

Let us tell you it wasn’t an easy day. Snow, sit, freeze, wait, freeze more, shoot, gut, clean, drag, show the kids, tag, take to government tagging station, hang to bleed out, clean gun, store gun in safe, wash blood covered clothes, and next week back to the butcher for steaks and ground kielbasa! Just in time for New Year’s Eve.

Not that it really has anything to do with it but if you haven’t seen The Deer Hunter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Deer_Hunter now is the perfect time. The film stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, John Savage, John Cazale, George Dzundza and Chuck Aspegren. We’re not giving away the ending but…The film ends with the whole cast at the wake, singing “God Bless America” and a toast.

Indeed, God Bless America.

If you are not already a member may we suggest the NRA membership as the perfect holiday gift at http://home.nra.org/#/home. As America’s oldest civil rights organization, the NRA’s mission is to preserve and defend the U.S. Constitution, especially the inalienable right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Yeah, well me and Guns ‘n Roses, in this ever changing world we live in, got to give you Paul McCartney- ”the other fellow hell.” Former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney made remarks to the European Parliament to raise the issue of meat production and consumption in advance of next weeks U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, rambling about Meatless Mondays and making me gag.

As if antennae aren’t already twisting to the disclosure of faked scientific data on climate change along comes another musician, now “do gooder” to save us from ourselves to suggest meat is bad for the climate. “Citing United Nations reports, the singer said 18 per cent of harmful emissions come from agriculture – significantly more than the 13 per cent attributed to transport. McCartney was joined by Rajendra Pach auri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), who said a tax on beef would “make a lot of sense”. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/europe/2009/12/2009123153511251744.html

Just what we need, a tax on beef besides the sales tax.

From Ireland, “IFA President Padraig Walshe has accused ex-Beatle Paul McCartney of leading a flawed campaign against meat that is contradictory on climate change. He said sustainable and environmentally-friendly grass based beef production from Ireland and other EU countries is being replaced on the EU market with beef from Brazil. Most of that meat is coming from areas where Amazon rainforest has been chopped down…’instead of campaigning MEPs to reduce the livestock herd in Europe, Paul McCartney should be lobbying to safeguard grass-based beef production here. This policy will halt the destruction of the rainforest.’ http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1203/environment.html

The WSJ had this to say, “Macca is the founder of an outfit called Meat-Free Mondays (http://www.supportmfm.org/), which aims to get us all to eat less meat and rescue the planet in the process….Keen to get in on this publicity stunt, sorry… I mean facilitate cross-disciplinary dialogue and save life on Earth, was the non-meat-eating Edward McMillan-Scott MEP, vice president of the European Parliament. He chaired the Macca event in Brussels and had this to say: “Paul McCartney was the sole author of one of the most popular songs in history, ‘Yesterday,’ but he is here today to discuss tomorrow — your future and your children’s future. http://blogs.wsj.com/iainmartin/2009/12/03/paul-mccartney-yesterday-all-that-global-warming-seemed-so-far-away/

Personally, Sir McCartney, Live and Let Die, and get out of my universe where you think you are an expert at advising anyone on anything.

The best commentary ever comes from The Telegraph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/greenpolitics/6720526/Sir-Paul-McCartney-and-his-green-celebrity-friends-should-put-up-or-shut-up.html ”What has become evident in the run-up to Copenhagen is that every time someone comes up with some ludicrous, self-flagellating proposal, yet another chunk of the population becomes disenchanted with the whole issue. There can hardly be a farmer left in Britain who has any truck with fighting climate change after being told last week that 30 per cent of the livestock in this country needed to go.

We’re all for a balanced diet of salads, veggies, fruits, etc., but NO ONE is taking away my meat dinners. Put a carbon tax on it, put a carbon tax on my farting, tax my auto, my tobacco, my roads, my booze, my guns, my hunting license, etc, and my fat meat eating ass when I die. We are eating meat. If the White House serves Kobe beef, be it from Texas or wherever- at some astronomical cost, the least I can afford is Meatloaf Monday on a pretty regular basis.

Kobe beef is a special grade of beef from (Wagyu) cattle raised in Kobe, Japan. These cattle are massaged with sake and are fed a daily diet that includes large amounts of beer. This produces meat that is extraordinarily tender, finely marbled, and full-flavored. It is also extremely expensive, often costing more than $100 per pound. via http://www.foodreference.com/html/artkobebeef.html Oh yeah, it tastes divine.

On a personal note- I too would like to be massaged with sake and fed large amounts of beer daily at our house.

OUR HOUSE
Our house is a very very very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy, ’cause of you
I’ll light the fire
While you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.

http://www.lyrics007.com/Crosby%20Lyrics/Our%20House%20Lyrics.html

Our house, we serve meat and occasionally with flowers from our garden that the dog hasn’t pissed on. It isn’t easy to eat meat. Some folks get there meat at McDonald’s. We have been known to hunt it, kill it, clean it, and store it to feed our family. There is also the generously fabulous opulence that can be found in U.S. grocery stores.

Yes, there are risks to eating food in general. E Coli and other contaminants are out there. You think someone starving in Somalia gives a rats ass about E Coli? Sadly, many will eat the rats ass.

While we eat our dinner, you can be rest assured we are not contaminating our ears with any music by McCartney, Sting, or Bono.

“Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you;

“Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; and with every living creature that is with you; the birds, the cattle and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark; even every beast of the earth.” Gen. 9:9-10

This is known as the rainbow covenant, or the Noahic covenant. These are interesting verses to isolate and read, as it forces you to realize that this was not just a promise to Noah, or to Noah and his descendants (all mankind), but rather a covenant with everything and everyone. I like the last part of the verse 10 – ‘even every beast of the earth’ – a phrase which God said twice in this passage.

But what is the promise? What is the covenant being made here? There may be some debate. Some would say the covenant begins at the start of chapter 9 and includes the commandment to multiply, the animals’ fear of man, the omnivore diet, and the warnings not to eat the animals’ blood and not to take another man’s life.

And yet I would also suggest that everything from Gen. 8:21-9:7 may just be blessings and commands from God before He specifically makes the covenant of the rainbow in 9:9-9:17. In these verses, God makes a promise to us that appears unilateral; He is the one making the promise and it is not based upon our following any rules – He is not stating that He will not flood the earth again as long as we don’t eat blood or commit murder; rather He is stating He will not flood the earth again, period. This is evidenced by God’s acknowledgement that humans have a tendency towards wickedness (Gen. 6:5 and Gen. 8:21); and the covenant ultimately made not to destroy the earth again with a flood is the outward expression of what God said to Himself concerning us in 8:21 after accepting Noah’s offering.

If so, the pictures becomes this: God creates man and ultimately chooses to destroy all but righteous Noah and his family. After Noah steps out of the ark, among his first actions is to make an altar, and an offering to God. God, upon accepting those sacrifices, makes the promise in is heart that He will no longer curse the ground or flood the earth. Then God explains what He has decided to Noah concerning this, and offers the sign of the rainbow as a tangible outward expression of this covenant.

It is as if there is a beautiful mutual interaction between God and man going on here. God shows He is the one that can create and destroy; Noah worships Him and thanks Him for having mercy on him and his family, saving them through the flood; lastly God makes a promise that it will not happen again. I think it is too easy to get tied up in bullet-point lists of what this or that covenant entails and miss what is really happening.

Tofu is a tasteless cube that some (SOME) people find appetizing, frying it, eating it with a sweet

Tofu is a tasteless cube that some (SOME) people find appetizing, frying it, eating it with a sweet or possibly tangy sauce, cooking it with vegetables in a stir fry, possible cubing some to make into some kind of baked dish, or (horror of all horrors) eating it raw!!! Terrible, absolutely horrifying. And yet, with the right oyster sauce, or possbly diced over a plate of buttered pasta, with the right ingredients, the tasteless goop turns into a succulent dish, a sponge of flavor, taking the best parts of all of the dish, and turning out a cubular explosion in the mouth once the teeth sink in and break the shallow bond holding the flavor, preventing it from gushing onto your tongue and causing orgasm in your taste buds, a rich panorama of flavor, of fish and peas carrots and onion and oyster, all rolled into one succulent mouth-watering- I mean. Whoa. Rewind. Got a little off topic there.

Eating tofu is bad for you, bad bad bad. Don’t EVER try it. If your parents try to make you eat it, tell them that they are not your parents anymore, that Jeremiah told you to tell them about the horrors of eating tofu, and if they are not willing to see the light and repent from their bland, cube eating ways, that you will leave them to find some better parents who do not practice this obscene worship of the tasteless, odorless, soy based hell-spawn.

This leaves more soy for me. I mean, for the landfill. The landfill in hell. Obviously.

Thank you and good night.

This post is a couple weeks in the making. I’ve been on something called the Paleo, or Paleolithic diet. It’s based off of what has been determined to be the eating habits of Paleolithic man/woman. Loren Cordain’s book titled The Paleo Diet tackled the issue. However, some believe the whole premise of the diet to be off, stating that those who adhere to the diet have common misconceptions of what Paleolithic man actually ate as is the case in this article by Sally Fallon.

Whatever the actual diet of Paleo man might have been, it is clear that the Paleo Diet does have some great benefits. Let me tell you… it’s tough at first, but I feel much cleaner, alert, and my energy level has gone up quite a bit. The most obvious benefit of this meal plan is that you will inevitably avoid processed foods. Here’s a detailed article on the breakdown of the diet, but let me give you some of the bullet points and what you can and cannot eat based off of Dr. Ben Balzer’s article:

You should eat:

Meat, chicken, and fish

Eggs

Fruit

Vegetables (not potatoes)

Nuts (Almonds, walnuts) but no peanuts

Berries

You should stay away from:

Grains (Bread, pastas, noodles)

Beans

Potatoes

Dairy products

Sugar

Salt

I’ll bet the first thing you say is, “That sounds really expensive!” But hey, I’ve got it covered. Here’s a great article from My Paleo Kitchen that gives you 10 tips on saving money while buying Paleo.

When I decided to give this a try, it was really so that I could write about it first hand. But now that I’ve enjoyed the benefits of such a meal plan, I’m excited about the possibilities.

I love the gmail ads that read your email and delivery you what they think you’ll need based

I love the gmail ads that read your email and delivery you what they think you’ll need based on that. I had one full day of bowel movement and stool softener ads all because I was typing about “BM” or something with Mrs. Miller. Today, I was intrigued enough to actually click through on a link that said “fishing hurts”. My brain was all “I know it probably hurts the fish, but then we eat them and they forget about it. I wonder if this is something more…”

It’s a flippin’ Peta site about how fishing hurts fish! It is the lamest site I have ever seen. It feels like Peta making fun of Peta. It’s almost like The Onion was foolishly contracted to pull this site together for them. Here’s a gem, and then please, I encourage you – check out the site. But please – keep fishing:

“Sylvia Earle, one of the leading marine biologists and ocean explorers of our time, has spent thousands of hours diving and knows a thing or two about the denizens of the deep. “I never eat anyone I know personally,” says Earle. “I wouldn’t deliberately eat a grouper any more than I’d eat a cocker spaniel...”

Are you KIDDING ME?!?!?! Just to show her there is a HUGE difference, I’m totally eating a cocker spaniel today.
