Yes, I am a shoe person. It is not my fault; it is in my DNA. My Nanney had an amazing walk-in closet with a built-in shoe wall. Okay, it probably was several shelves, but to a 3yr old it was the great wall of shoes. All colors, some with polka dots, some with heels, some not and some were super shinny. I discovered they all had corresponding purses.

Fast forward to when I finally wore a size 5. I could now buy shoes with my Nanney. What a great time we had together. Back then, shopping was an experience. All the salespeople at our favorite store were men, who all wore suits. They always asked if you wanted to be measured. You then sat and waited for your choices. Yes, they brought you the shoe you wanted, plus ones they recommended. The salespeople would use a shoe horn (if necessary) to help you try on the shoe.

We would take turns trying on the selections. Looking in the mirror and you would image the perfect outfit for the shoes. If one did not come to mind, that was the day’s second activity.  Needless to say, we were always successful.

Now, shopping is a new and different experience. Shopping in a store is not a grand. Also, you have the internet which provides endless choices. Then if you shop on Ebay, you can hunt and win the shoes you want. What a rush!

The Cole Haan loafers were my first win on Ebay. So much style for $35.00 and I did not have to pay for shipping. I have had them for 5 yrs already. They have had numerous trips to the shoemaker. Shoes have a long life span with the right shoemaker.

I cannot live without them. So basic with a hint of flair. The leather is stiff, yet comfortable. And the heel…so cool and different. They are a solid cube and not a regular loafer heel that contours the heel.

So the moral of the story is you can trust yourself to shop online….you will be surprised what you might find.

War eben auf Taobao, das chinesische Pendant zu eBay.  Wollte mal schauen, ob ich für Beijing (wo gerade schön kuschelige Minusgrade herrschen) das eine oder andere warme Kleidungsstück vor Ort anschaffen kann.

Eher reinzufällig bin ich dann auf die abgebildete modetechnische Geschmacksverirrung gestoßen. Mit viel Wohlwollen darf man den Schnitt vom Anzug wohl als gewagt figurbetont bezeichnen. Dabei bin ich eigentlich selber Freund vom engen Schnitt. Das was mich zum Schmunzeln gebracht hat, ist eigentlich die beigefügte Fotoserie vom abgebildeten Modell. Erinnert mich irgendwie an Szenen aus einem billigen HongKong Triaden-Streifen aus den 50ern.  Dabei meine ich nicht mal die auffallende Farbwahl des Kleidungsstücks und die Kombination mit den Turnschuhen und der Sonnenbrille.

Wenn diese metrosexuelle Gangsta-Aufmachung wirklich das Strassenbild von Beijing dominieren sollte, dann habe ich ja echt gute Chancen, übersehen zu werden…

Andererseits für umgerechnet 14 Euro kann ich mir so ein Teil eigentlich aus Spaß mal anschaffen und die Reaktion testen…

es ist schon eine kleine weile her seit ich zuletzt etwas bei ebay vertickt habe. heute wollte ich mal wieder zur tat schreiten und meine bücherregale ein wenig entmisten. ich update also meine programme, gebe den ersten artikel ein und werde schließlich beim speichern überrascht, dass für bücher keine versandkosten mehr abgerechnet werden dürfen. tja, damit ist ebay quasi für mich erledigt, denn damit lohnt es sich für bücher leider überhaupt nicht mehr. und ich frage mich auch ein bißchen, was mit den menschen passiert, die sich über ebay günstig bücher beschafft haben. denn die gingen ja oft für den startpreis von einem euro weg. rechnet man da die verkaufsgebühr und die versandkosten von mindestens 85 cent für eine büchersendung ab, hat man leider draufgelegt und kann die bücher einfacher im müll entsorgen oder verschenken. flohmarkt wäre noch eine idee, die ins auge zu fassen wäre.

schade eigentlich. aber seit ebay den anspruch hat eine verkaufsplattform im ecommerce zu sein und nicht mehr handelsplattform für gebrauchte ware, hat sich doch so einiges zum negativen entwickelt. aber ich bin sicher total rückständig und es gibt längst eine neue plattform für gebrauchtwarenhändler wie mich, oder?

eBay, the online auction giant and owner of the popular Skype software has finally sold Skype and the deal is complete. A message on the official Skype blog from company President Josh Silverman reads:

“Great news – we’ve closed the deal with the new investors. The investor group is led by Silver Lake, and includes Andreessen Horowitz, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Joltid Limited and our founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis.

The deal valued Skype at $2.75B US, with eBay retaining approximately 33% of Skype, and the investor group led by Silver Lake controlling the remaining 65%.Our journey continues: say hello to the future!”

eBay originally purchased Skype back in September 2005 for $3.1 billion and struggled to find a way to integrate the popular VOIP service into it’s business model. As the auction giant continued to look for ways to utilize the service with their exiting portfolio the value of Skype began to decline.

On September 1, 2009 the company had announced, “Today, Skype begins a new chapter. We’re spinning off from eBay to become an independent company once again”. It remains to be seen if the Skype will become a publicly traded company on the stock market or if there will be any significant changes to the business plan now that Skype has new owners.

Last night, I discovered the excitement that is Ebay.

Yes, I know, 12 years too late…

But I’ve never been able to use it before, due to being under 18 and not having a bank account. I didn’t get a bank account until I was 19, and didn’t get an Ebay account until last night…

But wow! A lot of fun. I have bought a Holga 120 CFN camera in order to play with photography for my portfolio, and about 10 minutes ago got outbid on an old N64 game named Gauntlet Legends! It was… oddly exciting. I was outbid in the last 6 seconds, having bid only on the last 20 seconds!

I just need to make sure that I don’t buy online too often, because I can’t afford to right now. I recently earned some more money than usual, and decided that I could reward myself for all the hard work by buying this old, plastic camera that I’ve wanted for several years I can’t wait for it to arrive! It usually retails at £50+, but I got it for a steal on Ebay at £23! I’m very excited to start creating surreal, narrative photographs on real film with manual effects that Photoshop and the digital camera age still cannot match up to.

Online auction site eBay has opened a pop-up store on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. According to the company, the 5,500-sq.-ft. pop-up location gives shoppers the chance to browse a sampling of 400 holiday products available from almost 200 million product listings on eBay — including everything from Zhu Zhu Pets to diamond rings. Shoppers can then purchase their favorite holiday gifts online from eBay sellers via touchscreen kiosks at the pop-up location or through eBay’s iPhone application. eBay’s pop-up holiday experience is open to the public from Nov. 20 to Nov. 29, closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Wie ich aus höchst geheimen Quellen erfahren habe, versteigert derzeit General Motors bei Ebay in einer geheimen Auktion Arbeitsplätze von Opel-Mitarbeitern für knapp eine Million Euro.

Dieser Screenshot wurde mir von einem hochrangigen Mitarbeiter des Wirtschaftsministeriums der Bundesrepublik Deutschland als Beweis zugesandt. Sowohl GM, Opel, Ebay, und alle europäischen Länder dementieren, dass so eine Versteigerung stattfindet.

When I got married my mom gave me her old kitchenware for our new apartment. They had been sitting in boxes under my grandpa’s garage for a few years. We went through the boxes together cleaning and sorting what survived, plates, bowls, mugs, pots, pans and silverware. I was and am very grateful for this mismatched assortment of housewares, lol because buying all those little things adds up and can become very expensive. It’s also very difficult to cook with limited utensils.

The Yellow Bowl

Among this assortment of dishes was a single yellow tupperware bowl. I didn’t really notice it at first, but it has since become my favorite bowl. We had it as long as I can remember. Oddly enough it brings back warm and fuzzy feelings whenever I use it. lol It’s also in really good condition. Lately I’ve be come a little bit of a vintage tupperware collector. My mom laughed the first time she heard me refer to her old containers as ‘vintage’.  I bought a few items for my collection from ebay, but some had to be thrown out because they smelled like cigarette smoke or something else funky. So now I get most of my tupperware from thrift stores, where I can smell it before I buy it and I don’t have to pay for shipping.  These containers are still very useful. I use mine all the time. They are great for storage because almost all the pieces come with air tight lids. I love the lids. When I was growing up my mom always kept sugar in them, one with white and one with brown. Never once did ants get to them.

My most recent thrift store find was a unique set of cups, or tumblers. These cups are not the normal harvest colors, brown, yellow, orange, or green, the iconic 70’s vintage Tupperware colors, but they are clear with a colorful printed design on them.

I’ve never seen anything like it before. Have you? If you have anymore info about these cups I’d like to hear about it. I posed it on yahoo answers to get a date range and most people say 80’s.
