“A pesar de que el “movimiento MBE” tiene ya un largo recorrido en años (aproximadamente desde inicios de la década de los 90), las publicaciones secundarias, especialmente las editadas en otros idiomas diferentes del inglés, son aún poco conocidas o utilizadas.

Recordemos que las publicaciones secundarias son recursos que ofrecen información convenientemente seleccionada, de interés práctico para el profesional sanitario, procedente generalmente de las revistas médicas tradicionales (también llamadas “primarias”).

En las publicaciones secundarias se realiza un doble filtro: 1) análisis de la validez metodológica del estudio; 2) análisis de la importancia clínica de sus resultados. De los artículos que superan este doble filtro se realiza un resumen estructurado, acompañado de un comentario crítico en el que se valora también la aplicabilidad de los resultados a la práctica clínica, integrándolos con la experiencia clínica del profesional y los valores del paciente.

Hemos actualizado el buscador “Publicaciones Secundarias en Español”. Diseñado con la tecnoogía Google para construir buscadores personalizados, se han incorporado nuevos recursos y dado de baja otros que han quedado inactivos.

Además, para facilitar su uso, hemos creado un “minitutorial” muy sencillo en el que se explica qué es el buscador PSE, que incluye, y cómo se recupera información a través del mismo “

Para aqueles que preferem livros em formato tradicional, a “Espresso Book Machine” promete livros novinhos em folha em minutos. Já existe biblioteca que oferece o serviço aos usuários.

I’ve wanted to go to Europe for a very long time. I find myself becoming extremely jealous when I hear other people’s tales of backpacking and European adventures. Oz and I often discuss going to Scotland so he can visit his home country — his mother’s maiden name is Dewar, as in Dewar’s scotch whiskey.

It was a strange morning, yet kind of normal for us. We listened to Darkwave, VNV Nation, and Johnny Vicious house mixes while I made breakfast. Then, Oz brought up Wave Gotik Treffen, the world’s largest festival for “dark culture,” which takes place in Leipzig, Germany every May 21-24.

Upon first glance, it looks like a Hot Topic festival.

But this is the real deal, folks.

At Wave Gotik Treffen, there are a variety of people. From Victorian Goths to gutter punks, to steampunks, there’s a little something for everyone. But it’s not just about the clothes and make-up, it’s about the music. WGT offers more than 150 bands and artists from various backgrounds  such as Gothic rock, EBM, Industrial, Noise, Darkwave, Neofolk, Neoclassical, Medieval Music, Experimental, Gothic metal, Deathrock and Punk.

Oz and I are both kind of scared of the festival, but we’re also very intrigued. I’d love to go experience something completely different like that, if only for the fact that I could blog about it after. Plus, Oz looks great in eyeliner.

Regnet smattrade på rätt ordentligt mot mitt fönster i morse och väckte mig en timma innan min mobil skulle ge mig ett skönt uppvaknande med IAMX underbara låt This will make you love again. Men det gjorde inte så mycket. När jag skulle fixa frukost kom jag på att jag hade glömt att köpa mjölk och kilade snabbt in till servicebutiken där jag bor och fixade 2 liter. Efter detta blev det frukost och nyhetstittande på tv:n.

När det gäller regnet så har det typ regnat hela dagen, så jag var tvungen att ta bussen in till city när jag skulle på möta med min kontaktperson på AF. Jag hade ett önskemål till honom och det var att få börja praktisera på samma reklambyrå som jag gjorde i somras. Detta gick bra, så jag börjar där på måndag och kör året ut. Ska bli så jävla skoj. Jag har även skickat in mitt CV och personliga brev till ett jobb som min coach hade mailat till mig.

Igår när jag satt och letade musik på Spotify hittade jag en grupp som jag inte lyssnat på på evigheter och satte då igång och letade fram några låtar med dem på youtube. Front 242 heter gruppen och är hur grymma som helst. Gammal skön EBM från Belgien. För ett par veckor sedan laddade jag över en hel del EBM till min mobil och nu när jag tänker på det har jag inte någon låt med Front 242 på telefonen, så detta måste fixas illa kvickt. Nåväl! Reporting from Washington - A core tenet of the healthcare overhaul President Obama is pushing through Congress is that medical care can be improved — and costs contained — if the country relies more on experts to determine which procedures and treatments work best.

But Monday’s mammography report by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force delivered a swift and stark reminder that few ideas are more explosive in healthcare.

The expert panel — which recommended that women in their 40s should no longer get annual mammograms to screen for breast cancer — sparked an outcry from those who say that the federal government is more interested in saving money than in improving women’s health, even though the panel did not consider costs in its analysis.

After watching the debates on the USPSTF new recommendations, I realized that no one brought up the basic tenet of Evidence Based medical practice. 

Think of EB medical practice as a triangle; one angle is the evidence, another represents the needs of your patient and the third is your needs as a practitioner.   Each situation requires you, as a present or future medical practitioner, to make decisions based on the best needs of your patient and your knowledge of your patient.  How do you make good decisions?  By using the current best medical evidence.

The French & Belgian EBM communities are quite tight and tend to stick to the “roots” of the Electronic Body Music sound.
