eBoy, the “geeky” artist behind the now famous pixelated parody images of world capitals, recently joined forces with Amnesty International, creating the above image for the  Poverty is Modern campaign.

Summing up the various problems the fight for human rights faces in the undeveloped countries in a single pixelated image is really a remarkable effort, specially when the artist in question is donating part of his profits from the selling of prints directly to the Amnesty International.

And this is no “for every print you buy you are donating 0,1€ for the institution” bullshit. eBoy is giving 4, yes FOUR, euros of each sold poster to the cause. 4€ in some cases can save lives.
So, if you have been thinking ’bout a new poster for your room, forget ’bout that Tupac and Bob Marley crappy posters (no disrespect, like them both lol), and buy something fresh while helping people truly in need.

After two broken pieces of lighting equipment and a pair of ripped and busted designer jeans (Kai’s jeans), the commissioned editorial photoshoot of eBoy for the Computer Arts Magazine, U.K. was a success. Check out the rest via Flickr.

Who ever said that we would keep it music exclusive?  eBoy is a group that creates digital images based on large pixels.  Their most popular works are scenes of major international cities.  They have been contracted by many corporations including Coca Cola to create advertisements.  Not much that I can say about them except that you have to check out their work for yourself.  I love it, decide for yourself.

Spiegels werden bespoten, etalages behangen, helicopters bevlogen, naties vernietigd, security moest wijken, donkere gangen werden bewandeld, cowboyboots herleefden, trams trachtten te ontkomen, Google Earth kreeg een nieuwe dimensie, wereldsterren werden betrokken, dagen werden nachten, nachten werden dagen, vrouwen werden versierd, vlaggen gevouwen, boeken verslonden, harde schijven gevuld, memory sticks gewisseld, Poscaliefde ontstond, links werd rechts, de wereldbevolking werd gereduceerd, Helvetica werd verkracht, Rockwell kwam tot leven, cameras bewogen, buskotjes werden aangenaam, vliegtuigen vlogen lager, Afrika kreeg een kans, Deense eilandgroepen werden van hun schapen beroofd, plenums werden gegeven, bier werd gedronken, ideëen onstonden, plannen evolueerden.

ROJO® presenta Pixorama, prima personale italiana di  eBoy (www.eboy.com), un collettivo integrato da Steffen Sauerteig (Germania – 1967), Kai Vermehr (Venezuela – 1964) e Svend Smital (Germania – 1967), fondato a Berlino nel 1997, riconosciuto internazionalmente come il più importante ed innovativo esponente della Pixel-Art.

Steffen, Kai e Svend, pionieri di una nuova tendenza, si sono imposti fin da subito all’attenzione del grande pubblico, grazie al loro stile unico e inconfondibile. La loro matrice è impregnata di cultura pop, dove le principali fonti di ispirazione sono il Lego, i videogiochi, i fumetti e i B-movie di fantascienza.

The awesome people who started eBoy have very weird names: Steffen Sauerteig, Svend Smital and Kai Vermehr. Because we don’t discriminate, not even people with names like that, we contacted them for our awesome project. Their website says they create re-usable pixel objects and take them to build complex and extensible artwork. We have no clue what that means but it sounds awesome. Their studio is in Berlin, which is an awesome city. Just last year Gaetan got lost in the awesome nightlife over there and was missing for two full days. It was a school trip. We have known and followed their awesome work for quite a while. They looked like an awesome trio, so we got very excited when they were quick to respond and sent us their awesome assigment. They also make toys. Which is awesome.

The mission for eBoy:

Create a huge image on the ground for the next time Google Earth satellites scan the area. Be sure the targeted area is scanned already so you don’t waste your time. Choose your resources carefully – these could be stones – waste – whatever. The image should survive some time since you don’t know when it will be scanned. Record the positional data so we all can have a look at your piece in the future.

We had our eye on a big nice roof in Antwerp city, but when we went there for a sneak peak we ended up being chased by bigass albino security guards. That’s pretty rock ’n roll, but truth is we were running and screaming like little Danish girls.

We decided to try a more legal approach. So we went to the Fish & Chips store and asked very very nicely if we could use their roof. They said: No problem freaks, the roof is yours. So a big thank you to the nice people of Fish & Chips.

We’ll arrange an airplane. No biggie.

Det kan godt være at vi har Kraks, GoogleMap mf. men vi har ikke vores storbyer i eBoy stylet pixelmaps, som Kina og New york har det. De startede med Kina; hop selv forbi edushi.com og check deres storbyer ud – alt er på kinesisk, men frygt ikke. De 2 øverste rækker er links til forskellige byer (kig evt på din statuslinje for at se navnet på linket – fx shanghai.edushi.com – Engelsk info om firmaet bag). Og senere hen joinede de  med YouCity.com (link til Blog)…og så fik New York også en tur.

Yeni bir ay, yeni bir sergi. 5 Mart’tan itibaren Istanbul’un en genç, en güzel ve en beyaz galerisi Milk Gallery‘de Meredith Dittmar‘un ‘Grey Area‘ sergisi açılıyor. Portland’ta yaşıyan sanatçı, Babe filminin setine benzer bir yerde büyümüş ve bu yüzden yaptığı işlerde hayvanların rolli bu kadar büyük olabilir! Sergi Perşembe 5 Mart’ta 19:00′de açılıyor ve 2 Nisan’a kadar devam edecekmiş. Daha önce Milk Gallery‘ye gelmemişseniz bu sergi iyi bir bahane olabilir!

A new month, a new exhibition at the Milk Gallery in Istanbul. After the great success of last months’ eBoy exhibition, it’s now Meredith Dittmar’s turn to take over the beautiful space in the Galata area. She’s an artist residing in the Portland area, but grew up in what could have been the set of the movie Babe. Mix that with her talent and interest in art and there you have your artiste (please pronounce it in a French way). The opening of the exhibition ‘Grey Area‘ is on Thursday the 5th of March at 19:00 and it’s going on till the 2nd of April! Don’t miss out on this one and especially for the people who haven’t visited the Milk Gallery yet, this is a good excuse to get your ass over there!
