Fashion designer Mark Ecko posted a video of him in Rocinha, and wrote a little about the favelas in Brazil.

You really don’t get a taste of Brazil until you get to visit the Favela’s. I visited both Helipolis in Sao Paolo, and Rocinha in Rio. In Sao Paolo I got to visit the work of Apprendiz and other social projects involving the arts and community. In Rocinha I got a very special night time tour with MC Junior and Leonardo– who are giants in the music scene here.

I had an amazing time. People were lined up on the streets watching old videos of Michael Jackson. The food was great. Graff scene in Sao Paolo is sick! Rio is a completely different vibe– much more chill, typical of a beach community. Rio is LA. Sao Paolo is NYC. This video is a little long, but it’s worth watching- especially for the music in the end.

Side note: Interesting comment left on Mark’s blog by a brazilian that shows the Brazilian attitude towards favelas. “Damn, so I, a brazilian, who visited hundred of different places of my own country, but never a favela from Rio or São Paulo never got the “real taste” of my country?”

“In one way, Marc Ecko’s a role model:  He started with style and a dream and made it to the top of pop fashion. In a more accurate way, Marc Ecko is a walking “What Not to Do” guide.
The NYP reports today that Ecko’s finally lost control of his own brand.  He was forced to sell off a controlling stake in Ecko, middle America’s most familiar hip-pop fashion line in order to raise cash to pay off creditors.  It’ll help the feeble brand hobble on, but it won’t be his.
This really makes his decision to build himself a 280,000 square foot office with an in-house basketball court and spend 750k on a souvenir baseball and live in a huge Italian villa-style Jersey mansion appear a bit financially imprudent.  But none of that was as bad as his decision to take what was once an actual cool, credible hip hop clothing brand (I remember when it was “ECHO” with an “H,” yo), and turn it into something that took up entire Kids’ sections in middle American malls.
Now you know, Marc:  That’s impossible.  And you lost all your money doing it.  If Marc Ecko can teach us anything, it is “Don’t be wack on purpose.”  Also, “Putting out more varieties of something wack just leaves you with a multitude of wack things.”
We’ll think of some more.”

Apparel licensing company and Rocawear manufacturer Iconix has completed a new deal that gives them a 51% stake in the Ecko clothing brand.

The deal gives Iconix a majority stake in Ecko’s private portfolio, and was finalized for the amount of $63.5 million.

Iconix expects a quick turnaround on their investment, projecting the venture to generate $42-$44 million in revenue by the end of 2010.

If the projection proves accurate, Iconix will post a $26 million share of the proceeds.

Iconix chief executive Neil Cole expects the success to stem largely from Ecko’s diverse brand which currently boasts 12 distinct lines such as Ecko Unlimited (men), Ecko Red (women), Zoo York (skateboarding), and Marc Ecko Scopes (eyewear).

“Ecko already has strong licensing partners and a robust European platform, from which we could leverage the rest of our portfolio,” Cole explained in a statement.

In addition, Cole verified that Ecko founder Marc Ecko will retain his position as the brand’s chief creative officer. Ecko was founded as a small, urban clothing line in 1993.

Over the past 16 years, Marc Ecko has expanded his brand from its initial strong Hip-Hop following to mainstream acceptance and recognition.

The new agreement follows Ecko’s previous marketing and merchandising deal with G-Unit Clothing, which spanned from 2003-2008.

MORRI DE INVEJA sete vezes e voltei na oitava como uma lhama falante. Catei parte do meu humilde salário e, FINALMENTE, comprei meu ecko.

Este é um dos modelos unissex mais simples. Não me encantei muito pelos masculinos não…. Os femininos são muuuuito mais incrementados (alguns tem strass e o diabo a quatro!). O preço é em média R$ 230,00 (aqui em Brasília), e como não existem lojas exclusivas da Ecko, você vai ter que garimpar toda e qualquer budeguinha que venda artigos esportivos (comprei na Centauro Esportes – pois é; apesar de odiar o atendimento daquele lugar, tive que dar o braço a torcer).

Il arrive un moment où toute personne qui s’intéresse un minimum à la mode a envie de passer au niveau supérieur, de bruler sans remords son jeans Célio, son pull Kookaï ou ses baskets sans marque, pour enfin devenir cet icône du style qui magnétise tous les regards dans la rue. Sauf que dans pas mal de cas, ce n’est pas parce qu’on donne un rein pour s’acheter un vêtement que celui ci est forcément beau. La preuve avec 5 hoodies carrément hors de prix, qui vous feront regretter votre petite veste à capuche Uniqlo à 40 euros bien cool (j’aurai bien aimé mais non, ceci n’est pas un post sponsorisé).

5. Doudoune sans manche Moncler, 1000 dollars. Parce que tous les pseudo branchouilles squattent leur doudoune brillante depuis 2 saisons déjà, que le look de bûcheron c’est cool uniquement sur une chemise, que les escalators du métro ne sont pas des tire-fesses et qu’il y a des chances pour que votre grand-mère vous confonde avec son plaid et s’endorme en boule sur vous.

4. Hoodie Christopher Raeburn, 1200 dollars. Parce que si vous regardez bien, ce n’est rien de plus qu’un simple K-Way, que les gens vont se moquer de la capuche en pensant que c’est une imitation Adidas, que vous êtes obligé d’avoir un haut uni pour ne pas être ridicule à cause de l’effet de transparence, et qu’il y a des chances pour que des paléontologues vous prennent pour un fossile de moustique conservé dans de l’ambre dominicain si vous restez trop longtemps immobile.

3. Hoodie Star Wars, 95 dollars. Parce que les hoodies Stormtroopers Ecko étaient vraiment mortels mais que c’est une mauvaise idée de décliner R2-D2, que vous allez passer votre journée à repousser des nerds en transe, que vous n’avez pas d’oeil qui projette une vidéo de Ben Kenobi, et qu’il y a de fortes chances pour que n’ayez pas d’enfant super mignon avec son déguisement de Dark Vador sous la main pour justifier votre tenue.

2. Gilet en peau de lapin, 12 650 dollars. Parce que même si ce n’est pas un hoodie, ce gilet donne l’allure d’un berger et force les femmes à se conduire comme des moutons, vu qu’elles achètent toutes le même modèle. Et qu’en fait le prix comprend aussi la chirurgie esthétique du nez, Amerie vous confirmera.

1. Hoodie Hermès, 75 000 dollars. Parce que tuer un crocodile et utiliser sa peau pour en faire autre chose que des chaussures de pimp, c’est très mal, et parce que 75 000 dollars quoi, bordel. Vous avez besoin d’une autre raison?

Estava almoçando, e na tela da tv do restaurante, vi a pouco.a seguinte notícia…
“Fecharam em Petrópolis (RJ) uma fábrica onde eram produzidas camisetas piratas de grifes famosas ….”
Foi no Record notícias exatamente às 13h30 e segundo a reportagem eram produzidas 1000 camisetas por dia.
Estive na 25 de março semanas atrás e fui ao Brás também…Qual marca você prefere?????

UMA VERGONHA NA MINHA SINCERA OPINIÃO

This week’s Purse of the Week is a black belted satchel from Mark Ecko.

This purse is available from Macy’s for $69, but right now it’s on sale for $50.99.

This is a great bag for the fall and winter.  It comes in the above black, or yellow, purple, and orange for those of you that like to add color to your wardrobe.

It has a zip top and interior pockets and at 16 inches long there’s plenty of room to hold all the necessities.

I really like the belt on the side.  It’s a unique element and not usually found on a purse; however, it isn’t too out there to be out of place.

Man… yo mama is so fat even Dora couldnt explore her.

Creo que encontré el justo equilibrio entre las ganas de ir por la vida disfrazado de personaje de Star Wars, y el sentido común. Estas sudaderas o hoodies de Marc Ecko son una verdadera belleza. Se ven muy bien terminadas y representan distintos trajes de la clásica película de George Lucas.
