The Institute of The Right is Never Wrong and The Left is Never Right

THE CHURCH OF THE ECO-MANIACS is holding its Holy Convocation in Copenhagen this week.

Every religion has its tenets and fervent adherents (aka fanatics). And, yes, the eco-movement is a religion.

In Medieval times, the Catholic Church accomplished World Domination and controlled not only religious obeisance, but wielded ultimate political power. This led to abuse, corruption and “The Dark Ages,” a time of cultural decline and societal collapse. It empowered and enriched oligarchs and tyrants and suppressed the masses into submission. It lasted a millennium — 1,000 years with no architecture of any significance, little philosophical and literary work, and a time when most of the great works of classical antiquity were ‘lost’.

Modern society is poised on the precipice of a coming DarkAges, if the Eco-Maniacs prevail with their theocracy of Climate Change. Make no mistake about it — Religious fanatics are hell-bent on World Domination again. Only this time, worshipping Mother Earth, not Mother Mary.

The tenets of any Religion are many and all are in place today with the World Church of Eco-Mania.

One. A religion requires a cult leader. Algore is the man-child pope-face of the new eco-oppressors. And what a face it is. He is the Christ of the new religion, having suffered crucifixion in the great election of 2000, was buried, and rose from the dead with a shiny new slideshow and a billion dollars of offerings from the coffers of the Faithful. As founder of an independent religious movement known as The Church of Eco-Mania and inventor of the Internet, Algore is a self-declared Holy Man, an itinerant sage, and a charismatic speaker. (Well, two out of three ain’t bad.) Now an international televangelist for the Religion, Algore was anointed by the Holy Sages of Norway who bestowed upon Him a Nobel Peace Prize, and imbued with an Emmy® (tribute to the gods — little “g) by the Apostles and Epistles of the Holy See in Hollywood.

Honors benefiting a Zealot with a Messiah-complex.

Two. The Religion must have cardinal sins. The eco-crowd has a list of environmental transgressions from which to choose. Yet sins may be conveniently forgiven, if indulgences are paid — with Carbon Credit Monopoly money, no doubt. (Good thing the Catholics gave all of this a test-drive back in the Middle Ages, for mere mortals would be unable to craft such maniacally devious schemes.)

Three. It necessitates clergy to postulate the edicts and inscribe them on tablets from On High. The Pious Ones of the Holy Church of Ecology are the scribes of enviro-science, cloistered in their laboratory conclaves. In these secret chambers, the theology of ecology is written on the sacred scrolls of scientific research and published by the journals of The Almighty Body of Knowledge. From there, they are disseminated to the Adoring Worshippers, who dare not inquire as to how the Holy Words came to be written upon the tablets, lest they be smitten from Above.

The venerable Chosen Ones are the emissaries to the Great Confab of Copenhagen, which will feature ground-breaking seminars such as: Burning Other People’s Money for Fuel, Repeating Lies With a Straight Face, Living Large On A Bloated Budget, and How To Rape The Public And Learn To Live With Yourself In The Morning. These illuminated ones have assembled 1,200 limos and 140 private planes, enough emissions to equal a city the size of Rochester, NY.

Four. It demands worshippers. The bleating sheep of the eco-church are Lefties, Socialists, Marxists, Commie-Pinkos, One-Worlders, and leftover hippies with crumbs in their beards who think of the world as One Big Commune, man!

Five. It craves contributions. The Almighty Currency is the mother’s milk of tyrants. Left-leaning governments, corrupt totalitarians and brutal dictators who worship at the altar of the sacrosanct are only happy to hand over tithes on behalf of and pilfered from the wages of their congregants. Cap and Trade legislation is the modern equivalent of tithes and offerings, but contributions from parishioners will come at the end of a gun. And the Church of the Eco-Maniacs will hold the .357 Magnum cum Louder to each of our heads. “You will give an offering, won’t you?” (please insert evil laugh here)

Six. It demands heretics. Every “hero” needs a villain. Unbelievers and atheists are the common enemy of any religion, and the heretics of the World Church of Ecology must be properly punished. The media and “free” press, which are the publishing and public relations arms of The Eco-Church, speaks the monolithic Crede of the Faithful, and serves as Enforcer to mete out daily public floggings of Apostates and Pagans in the public square. When required, character assassinations serve as modern-day beheadings and burnings at the stake to keep troublemakers and demagogues in line.

Seven. The Ultimate Apocalypse. Without an Apocalypse, no Religion can reap converts. The End of the World As We Know It is the hymn song of its Devotees. Absolution in this faith can only be found at the Altar of Going Green. The threat of Eternal Hell hangs over the World as punishment for disobedience and apostasy. Melting ice caps, rising oceans, and cataclysmic horrors beyond description unleashed by an enraged Mother Nature are punishments befitting the Unworthy and Unfaithful. To evade eternal damnation, sinners must do penance, say three Hail Marys, two Algore-ithms, and pay-pay-pay in the Offering Bucket!

And if you T-off Mother Nature or Father Obama, you won’t get a Merry Solstice card from the United Nations.

The Eco-Church preaches the Gospel of Climate Change. Oh, wait! Wasn’t it Global Warming before? Um, The New Ice Age? That was the Apocalypse Du Jour in 1974. It matters not. Sheep will believe anything, especially if it appears in print.

Regardless, the Cult of Climatology goes on hammering the pulpit and beating its bible of scientific doctrine to try to frighten us into repentance.

Today, dogmatic religious fanatics in the media and press are pushing their theocracy of Global Warming/Climate Change/Ice Age/Pick-An-End-of-the-World-Scenario That Scares th Heaven Into You. In the Dark Ages, the Catholic Church was brought to its knees (pun intended) by Martin Luther, a priest and theology professor who perceived corruption, called it out, and nailed the Ninety-Five Theses to the Wittenburg Door. The rebellion in our times is being led by lone voices of Global Warming skeptics in the Seminaries of Science and Politics, by bloggers and the Internet, as well as talk radio. Expect these bastions of freedom to come under continued harassment and assault by the Fundamentalist Radical Imams of the World Church of Eco-Maniacs!

The religion of the worship of nature is nothing new. It’s been around for Millenia. It’s called Pan-theism. Or worship of All Things.

Bottom line: if you’re going to worship, find a real church with a real Gospel and a Real Savior. Not this fake religion with a cardboard cutout of a False Messiah standing in the pulpit at Copenhagen.

If Algore is their Pope, then I’m a happy heretic!

On November 27th, Rivera Cuale hosted a screening of the film entitled “Home”. About 30 people attended and were first hosted in the model apartment for wine and cheese. Guests socialized and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the view as the sun set over Vallarta, and then made their way to the riverfront below to watch this important environmental documentary. Some lay on the poolside lounge beds, and others sat in chairs, looking up at the massive screen as beautiful imagery of Earth danced upon it. Hot bags of popcorn were shuttled out to the audience to enhance the experience. Everyone enjoyed the evening, with many commenting on how absolutely peaceful the neighborhood was, with the sounds of the river rushing by and crickets singing in the night.

Fish may seem like emotionless creatures, but they are living things. However, humans sometimes fail to take this into consideration, blinded by their self-interest. I recently found an article about Illinois officials dumping poison into the Chicago River to kill the Asian carp. And what for? So that maintenance could be performed on an electrical barrier that keeps the fish out of the Great Lakes. Around 200,000 pounds of dead fish are estimated to be collected. This action raises a lot of questions mainly between morality and human lifestyle. You see, if the carp were to get into the Great Lakes, they would destroy the lakes’ lucrative fishing industry ($7 billion) by depleting the bottom of the food chain. It is ironic how authorities say they hope to prevent an “ecological disaster” when they are killing so many fish. In reality, they are not trying to prevent an “ecological disaster”, but instead a “human disaster”. Apparently, the fish are just sacrifices for the interests of humans. But what bothers me more is the officials’ audacity to pour poison into what is considered to be not just the fish’s water but also our water. Okay we always talk about saving the environment and not polluting, yet the officials who hope to prevent a disaster in nature are polluting the water with 2000 pounds of poison. The poison is meant to only kill fish, but how can these myopic people not see that there are greater effects of poisoning our own water? Can they not see what it can do to us? In my opinion, I would not compromise the carp and the river’s ecosystem just for the $7 billion industry. It just doesn’t seem worth it. We’re dealing with an alteration in not one variable in the ecosystem but multiple. The short run goal of saving our industry cannot even come close to the potentially dangerous long run consequences.

The Nature of Paleolithic Egalitarian Groups In Part II of my essay, “Evolution of Democracy,

The Nature of Paleolithic Egalitarian Groups

In Part II of my essay, “Evolution of Democracy,” I discussed Dr. Doron Shultziner’s evolutionary thesis regarding the development of modern-day “liberal democracy.” In this part, I shall look at Shultziner’s conceptualization of the way in which Paleolithic, egalitarian hunter-gatherer groups emerged and maintained their structure and functioning over thousands of years and how the mechanisms that developed were bequeathed to the democracies of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Human societies in the Paleolithic era were quite small. According to Shultziner…

The number of people in a foraging band did not usually exceed a few dozen. In these small nomad bands the acquaintance with other people was very close due to group size. Christopher Boehm [citation in original] says that these were “societies of equals, with minimal political centralization and no social classes. Everyone participated in group decisions, and outside the family there were no dominators.” Even after several thousand years of sedentary influence, only very few nonegalitarian foraging societies exist [citation in original]. In fact, social mechanisms that maintain the egalitarian structures are so intricate and culturally sophisticated that Boehm argues that these groups created “reversed hierarchies”, meaning, leaders are actually dominated by the rank and file and not vice versa. The egalitarian structure was, and still is, accomplished by sophisticated social mechanisms that are known as leveling-down mechanisms.

Such “leveling-down mechanisms” are in Shultziner’s words…

…social practices which are aimed at controlling over-assertive individuals from boasting their success and traits (e.g. in hunting) and at containing leaders from exploiting their position….

Leadership is necessary for…internal conflict resolution, for religious and healing roles, and for decision making in times of war and peace. Leveling-down mechanisms, thus, do not reverse the hierarchy between a leader and his group; the mechanisms simply keep the social structure as close to flattened as possible. Leaders are restricted and checked as not to extend their powers beyond what is necessary by the circumstances [citation in original]….

If a leader or a would-be-chief tries to dominate other group members or misuse his leadership role, group members may tell him that he makes them laugh (ridicule tactic), they may walk away, disobey or simply ignore him. Other tactics are to remove, ostracize or expel an over-assertive individual from the group, and, in extreme cases, execution is also an option (different groups exercise different techniques, see [citations in original])….

…Sometimes, leaders might succeed in exploiting their roles and gain more power. In most cases, though, initial intentions of leaders to overstep their authority are quickly identified and prevented by group members, even before an explicit exclamation needs to be made. Boehm [citation in original] posits that many anthropologists probably were unable to observe the tacit conflict between leaders and group members because hunter-gatherers are very skillful in identifying over-ambitious leaders and keeping them checked and restricted. Identifying these implicit yet meaningful social subtleties are aided by living in a small group whose members can more easily communicate and contain their leaders.

The benefits of individuals who resist and restrain a dominant leader are clear. Individuals are better off sharing some power than not having any power at all. This ancient type of behavior is already manifested in “chimpanzees’ politics” where lower-ranking males form coalitions in order to dethrone a single alpha male, and then share power together [citation in original]. This ability has probably evolved gradually and become more sophisticated. Each group member benefits from good leadership but not from a despotic one. Not each individual, however, is capable of facing a powerful over-assertive leader alone. Hence, the shared interests of group members, to improve their own positions while upholding their autonomy, are completely consistent with the egalitarian outcome: each individual behaves in a way that maximizes one’s position and the outcome is egalitarian nevertheless.

Changes in Egalitarian Forager Groups in the Neolithic Era

Shultziner painstakingly describes how changes resulting from the invention of agriculture correspondingly changed small, forager societies to larger, tribal communities and subsequently to civilizations and empires.

Before the invention of agriculture and the beginning of the Neolithic era, groups were of a limited size. Groups could not have grown too big mainly because resources were usually scarce or insufficient to maintain a big group of foragers, who seasonally consume the resources in their proximity and move on to a new area, and because bigger groups required harder work to sustain (e.g. for food supply) and entailed more conflicts [citations in original].

After the Neolithic era has begun, small egalitarian forager groups settled down and started cultivating plants and animals for subsistence. Boehm defines these societies as tribesmen and says that “they have continued the political approach of hunter-gatherers under radically different ecological circumstances” [citation in original]. Tribesmen persisted with their denial of strong authoritative leadership and prevented it from developing. As a consequence they were “prone to raiding, feuding, and territorial warfare” and they were pushed into forming intertribal coalitions [citation in original]. The transition from a confederation of tribes to chiefdoms and kingdoms was accelerated by the competition between tribes and confederation of tribes, and this eventually gave rise to a strong and powerful central authority. Indeed, some of these chiefdoms and kingdoms eventually became the kernels of the first civilizations [citation in original].

The transition to sedentary life had a tremendous impact on other factors, such as the growing number of group members, and the ability to have an intimate knowledge of, and communicate with, all group members. The transition from the Paleolithic era to the Neolithic era entailed far reaching changes in environmental conditions: social, institutional, technological and cultural. These changes resulted in a reduced capacity to effectively control and contain leaders and over-assertive individuals. The new environmental conditions impaired the effective and subtle communication of small groups, the usefulness of leveling-down mechanisms, and eventually enabled group leaders to enhance their powers over the group [Emphasis added].

Thus, it is clear that environmental changes that brought about the transition from the Paleolithic Era to the Neolithic Era imposed strong pressures on the social organization of hunter-gatherer groups. However, the important question is: Did these changes produce evolutionary changes in the human psyche and its longstanding preference for egalitarian social organization?

Persisting Preference for Egalitarian Social Structure

Shultiziner suggests that the ten millenia that have elapsed since the Neolithic era have not transformed “the innate physiological and psychological sets of human beings, which were shaped when human beings lived in small egalitarian societies.” He argues that this period is “far too short in evolutionary terms to create any substantial changes.” He cites the work of Leda Cosmides and John Tooby [citation in original], two pioneers of evolutionary psychology, in support of his argument.

The environment that humans–and, therefore, human minds–evolved in was very different from our modern environment. Our ancestors spent well over 99% of our species’ evolutionary history living in hunter-gatherer societies. That means that our forebearers lived in small, nomadic bands of a few dozen individuals who got all of their food each day by gathering plants or by hunting animals. Each of our ancestors was, in effect, on a camping trip that lasted an entire lifetime, and this way of life endured for most of the last 10 million years.

Generation after generation, for 10 million years, natural selection slowly sculpted the human brain, favoring circuitry that was good at solving the day-to-day problems of our hunter-gatherer ancestors — problems like finding mates, hunting animals, gathering plant foods, negotiating with friends, defending ourselves against aggression, raising children, choosing a good habitat, and so on. Those whose circuits were better designed for solving these problems left more children, and we are descended from them.

Shultziner goes on to say:

It is necessary to understand these historical conditions in order to appreciate transitions to democracy in the 20th century or earlier. Saying that small egalitarian societies were the optimal and natural form of social structure under which human beings evolved does not suggest that it is the only type of social structure human beings can live under. On the other hand, saying that human beings can live under an array of structural environments does not imply that all institutional arrangements are just as good or apt for human beings to live under. The fact that in some circumstances human beings can adapt to living under totalitarian regimes, does not in any way mean that despotic social structures are as good as egalitarian social structures. Human evolution does not abruptly end with the beginning of the Neolithic era. Indeed, we know that in many cases human beings succeeded in maintaining their egalitarian structures into and far beyond the Neolithic period, and leveling-down mechanisms have not disappeared in tribal societies either.

Most probably, egalitarian structures remain more suitable to humans today just as they predominantly have been until 10,000 years ago. The overall historical pattern towards more egalitarian political institutions and practices is consistent with our evolutionary history. The existence of small egalitarian forager societies in many continents is a further reminder of the aptness and persistence of this social structure to human life despite the pressures of modern environments. States and nations were not part of the Paleolithic era; nevertheless, democratic states are far more compatible with ancient egalitarian societies than with despotic or nondemocratic regimes [Emphasis added].

In Part IV of this essay, I shall discuss Shultziner’s creative synthesis of historical, anthropological, and evolutionary evidence/theory with recent research and theory in social and political psychology regarding the “need for recognition” and its relationship to the social psychological literature on self esteem. This contribution, I believe, will enable us to move toward a more synergistic democracy (Synocracy), which ultimately must recognize two very strong forces in human behavior and the need for their balancing, not only within the individual, but within the social order. These two forces were called: (1) the Self-Assertive Tendency and (2) the Integrative (Self-Transcending) Tendency by Arthur Koestler, a journalist, who posssessed a monumental, synthesizing intellect, having been a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford from 1964-1965. Each of these tendencies is actually a collection of tendencies. Koestler used these constructs in formulating his theory of the holon.

No man is an island–he is a holon. A Janus-faced entity who, looking inward, sees himself as a self-contained unique whole, looking outward as a dependent part. His self-assertive tendency is the dynamic manifestation of his unique wholeness, his autonomy and independence as a holon. Its equally universal antagonist, the integrative tendency, expresses his dependence on the larger whole to which he belongs: his “part-ness.”

In a subsequent part of this essay, I shall consider the nature of the holon in political discourse, particularly as it relates to the new “synergistic democracy” or synocracy, which is the theme of this blog.

Prologue

Today there is an incessant talk about green housing. Green is the new hot topic, certainly not a fad because we are undoubtedly in for groundbreaking events when it comes to climate changes. Suddenly everything that we have become so used too is also the source of a dreaded hotter future. We use so much energy and resources to sustain the life we have made for ourselves that the earth is about to just say stop. Our homes is the most basic of needs, but we have today developed housing quite far from Indian tents and adobe houses, and as such they have an enormous impact on the landscape and nature. However just like cars we have grown accustomed to our large homes, heated in the winter and cooled in the summer.

To minimize houses impact on energy consumption we insulate walls thicker and use solar collectors to heat water. Houses such as the newly built house by Carin Adalberth is perhaps the top of the line of what how energi efficient a house can become and even to produce more electricity than it consumes. However this amazing house is quite far from making it as a mainstream house. Firstly the wall thickness is at the limit to acceptance. This house illustrates how far we can go with modern technology and building methods, and pondering you see that new methods are needed if we are to achieve mainstream ecological energy efficient houses.

Heating our homes is however not the only issue when it comes to energy consumption. Worldwide electricity is converted for cooling at fantastic rates. Air conditioning is making it possible to live pleasantly just about anywhere, but the use of AC units is unsustainable in the long run.

Engineering a truly green house

For the first we need to have thinner insulation. A new villa can be built with 54 cm walls like Carins house, but older buildings , low-income homes and cities will not go that far. Vacuum panels holds the future for insulating walls that can be only 120 mm thick! Aerogels materials holds the prospect of fantastic insulation to glass windows, such as green houses. However much practical research needs to happen before we see it becoming as common as mineral wool. Aerogel is not yet suitable as window material.

The idea of a green wall occurred to me looking at the vegetation that covered many facades on buildings. As it turns out green walls isn’t something odd but have been built several times and have improved houses by making them need less cooling. With green walls and roofs the house becomes more aesthetically pleasing, cleans the air, keeps cities coolder and reduces cooling needs, sounds very good to me. Walls engineered with vacuum panels as insulation could have an outside layer that is engineered to be long-lasting and provide a surface for an organic outer layer that protects against the sun and outside elements. As organic walls regrow, walls don’t need to be repainted or renovated as it breaks away pelted by rain and sun.

The biggest aspect to realize the green home that can not be ignored is economics, there must be a will and that willpower comes best from economic reasons. We need to make sustainable ecological houses that are easy to build. Module houses and prefabricated house parts is the future. Standards is good when it comes to almost everything. There is already much use of prefabricated elements in the construction industry which is good, but there is still much to desire especially in many parts of the world.

The vision

The future house is built being effective or not when it comes to energy consumption, that is already praxis. Homes no longer rely on techniques and methods of construction that hasn’t changed for the last 100 years. Houses that have a minimalistic need for heating and cooling. The energy saved from all the not needing heating or air conditioning is enough to make an impact on the dilemma with finding clean energy in a world without oil. Houses no longer stick out in the landscape but become part of it. Juxtaposed to nature the organic walls and roofs blend in as naturally as the trees and the flowers. Houses aren’t built and torn down with a new owner but age just like the nature around it, lasting well over 100 years or longer. The well-built prefabricated modules and sections offers no flaws and problems from rain during the construction. Houses that have solar panels and solar collectors is standard even for cheap houses in every country. Houses are designed on the computer just like before but rather than just having the roof being prefabricated, the entire house is, the other elements being modules. This enables builders to assembly energy effective ecological homes everywhere in the world without extensive knowledge that is required today in passive house construction. Carin wrote that building the house that she have is hard, and we need simplicity, for we need ecological housing on a large-scale for it to make a difference on the climate.

A green future hence is literally not just building a house that use little energy, but could also thanks to the synergy of using nature as part of the construction lead to a truly green house. A green house that is perhaps the best step we humans can take to make our housing ecological and take less from the environment, and still retain the comfort that we have grown accustomed too.

By Michael Hughes November 28, 2009

The first inhabitants in Boulder did something new and different. First populated by Miners who came to the area when gold was first discovered in the canyons nearby. The beginning of the green movement was 1859 when a group of Insightful settlers organized the Boulder City Town Company. Even back then, the town grew slowly, because lots were expensive and mercantile type companies were limited to selling to the mines and miners. Railroads came and with that the population tripled by the 1880’s. Boulder as a community began preserving land as early as 1898 with the purchase of the area now known as Chautauqua Park. By the end of the 19th century, Boulder had established itself as a center for health, recreation, and culture. In 1896, the Seventh Day Adventists built a sanitarium for tubercular patients on Mapleton Hill. In

1898, the Colorado Chautauqua opened on a 26-acre site donated by the city of Boulder at the base of the foothills. It is one of only 4 Chautauqua’s that have survived over the years. In 1908, Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. (yes his father was Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. who designed and created central park in NYC) was commissioned

to advise the city on improvement to its physical surroundings. Olmstead envisioned a high-quality environment, with residential areas kept isolated from industry, in order to maintain clean air where people lived. Olmsted’s report served as a guide for growth in the coming years. Boulder has been on the cutting edge of the green movement for quite some time. In 1910 there was a threat of an amusement park on the summit of Flagstaff Mountain and accessed by an incline railway that rallied concerned citizens to speak out. This led to long range plans to protect the foothills and the mountain backdrop. In the future Boulder citizens decided to prevent further development by acquiring land before it could be developed. Collectively protecting the land and the ecological integrity of the area. The early settlers took their cue from the Chief of the Arapahoes. Realizing that clear blue skys, pure water and land preservation be respected. Smart growth, healthy living, smart children, it’s a wonderful life in Boulder, Colorado. We are proud to call this our home.

Climate Change

„The ‘Sweet Earth’ production“, says Michel Montecrossa, „are songs for planet earth, they sing for our future. We have to see, hear and understand the signals of earth if we do not want to lose our future and the world along with it. Each one of my songs speaks in music for a better tomorrow, gives the taste and the feeling of a One World Consciousness. They are peoples songs, they are songs of encouragement to do the right thing to save the climate of our earth both inside and outside of us.“

Climate Generation
About ‘Climate Generation’ Michel Montecrossa says: „Climate Generation is the youth-movement of the 21st century.
Born into the cynical and untruthful world of sell-out adults who don’t care about their children, Climate Generation quickly understands the hard way: ‘Don’t trust old people ’cause they have nothin’ to lose.’
Climate Generation is born on a planet with a changing climate both inner and outer. Values collapse. It’s either food or housing – or none of them. Volcanos erupting, earthquakes, cyclones, wars and crimes increasing, energy dwindling, prices rising, drinking water fading as does work, slums expanding as does hopelessness.
Climate Generation: another silicon valley loneliness, another industrialization madness, another army, another bomb, another level of cruelty or another level of Love and Change?“

Alternative Future
Michel Montecrossa says: „At the Spirit of Woodstock Festival 2009 in Mirapuri me and my band perform our 10 days ‘Alternative Future’ concert series. During these concerts we present topical songs dealing with the life on our rapidly changing earth and the impact these changes have on our future.
We all have to face times when we can no longer switch back the clock or overlook the facts that give a new meaning and reality to our life.
We have to adapt quickly to the existential problems of risin’ food-, energy- and housing-prices, dwindling natural resources, energy wars, growing pollution, deterioration of human values, work, wages and education along with global climate change.
The next future will be as good as is our present goodwill, understanding, awareness and consciousness.
The ‘Alternative Future’ concerts turn to this future with high-energy songs and lyrics that put right what went wrong, make you listen and make you think.“

Another World
About ‘Another World’ Michel Montecrossa says: „When good things turn bad, what good comes from the bad? Is the green Greenland the good that comes from the melting ice?
There are worlds related to our body – food, housing, money. There are worlds related to our soul – love, light, consciousness.
When food is only for the rich and houses have no water than money takes the place of our soul. It is another world.
When good things turn bad, what good comes from the bad? Is the hunger for more love, the thirst for protecting light and the need for true consciousness the good that comes from global warming?
When love turns to all, when light leads to knowledge and consciousness-growth gives the power to act, our soul will survive and the earth be saved. It is another world.“

Light
„Life needs light: the light from the sun, the light from consciousness.
Both together give us unlimited energy.
It is wise to turn to the light – it gives the answer, for it is the answer.“

Light Energy
About ‘Light Energy’ Michel Montecrossa says: „The original light and the planetary light, the light of consciousness and the light of the sun is one light energy creating all.
Songs can be light in the darkness when intelligence burns out.
Songs are like inner movies bringin’ back the dream and realizing power when they are true to the purpose and in love with life – when they have soul-energy and are full of light.“

Love Revolution & Space Age Drive
„Love revolution is the only revolution worth the trouble.“
„Space-age drive is bound to come if we want to survive. The answers are in the wideness, not in smallness.“

Peace & Light
About ‘Peace & Light’ Michel Montecrossa says: „Peace and Light go hand in hand. They are the kind heart and wisdom of love. Power-Peace they are and bright hope.
Light is energy and energy brings peace. It ends all energy-wars.
Inner light heals trouble, gives peace of soul. Peace and Light change confusion and conflicts into harmony of the all.
Harmony is good for planet earth. Peace and Light heal the climate of the world and its beings everywhere.“

Planet
„The demons that ride humanity are like volcanos erupting, like waves surging, like thunderstorms growling, like cyclones howling, like fire screaming, like earthquakes rumbling, like sunrays burning, like ice melting, like oceans and rivers rising, like deserts expanding, like global warming, like ice-age coming, like climate changing, like air mutating, like water fading – the brain echoes of the planet’s language, the call of evolution, the drive of consciousness growing.
From within or from without: It’s the way of change. Listen to the planet, listen to the soul, understand destiny and know what to do.“

Soul & Earth
„There is an intimate relation between man’s soul and the earth.

It is a right relation when it is conscious, harmonious and full of light.

It is wrong and brings trouble when it is dark and distorted by greed and lies.

The truth of a relation is determined by its intensity and wideness of love.

Environment and survival, ecology and economy, peace and war, progress and preservation, health and transformation are poles for the love and hate energies that determine the relation of man’s soul with earth. It is up to man to decide until the earth decides.“

About ‘Sunraygeneration’ Michel Montecrossa says: „Soul and sun are the good comrades for the journey of life. They are happy and heroic. They are earth-planet and future-humanity in love.“(Reference: Michel Montecrossa about the CD ‘Sunraygeneration’ – Spirit of Woodstock Festival 2008)

Vision
„Love is Divine. Emotion is Human. Arousal is Terrestrial.
The drive of consciousness gives vision. Vision shows cosmic unity. Unity gives peace and joy.
Tomorrow’s world-leaders are astronauts. They see how small our planet is and how great is love. They see the tenderness and fragility of the earth’s atmosphere.
Love unites and is good for the earth and its atmosphere.
When you reach the contact with the Divine’s love you see this love in everything and all circumstances.“

Wake Up
About ‘Wake Up’ Michel Montecrossa says: „All over the world writing and singing bring us songs that make us aware in larger ways, songs that are broadsides of consciousness.
They are setting free the words so that they can fly with the vastness of rhythms and chants. Melodies give charm to meaning and voice the magic of living dreams that make us wake up.
With the coming of printing, radio, recording T.V. and internet, the songs of the street singers about hopes and revolutions, outlaws and saints, hard times and love flourish as never before as the thousands of broadside ballads composed, printed up, recorded, played and loaded up for listeners everywhere on this globe and in outer space. It began around the year 1500 to grow in an ever increasing way and has never stopped since then.
The british museum alone has no less than 12000 of them and nobody can tell the number of broadsides sung throughout the world. They all give to mankind the vision, the eye-opener, the wonderful feeling that makes you wake up.
My songs are broadside ballads for global cyberhighways as well as for the simple gathering.
They are the wake up cry for today and tomorrow.“

WATER IS LIFE – LYRICS (song & lyrics by Michel Montecrossa)
Water is life. Water is life. Water is the cradle of our life. Water is the Mother of all life. My hands are kissed by the rain. My lips are wet with the mighty spring. My body is embraced by the wonderful sea. My thirst is quenched, I am happy and free. Water is life. Water is the helping might. Water is the powerful guide into tomorrow’s, tomorrow’s earthly paradise.
Children, be happy! Children, be free! Children, be thankful for every day you can live! Dive into the ocean! Yes, swim in the sea and jump yeah, jump into the river! Drink the water, feel at ease! Water for the city. Water for the land. Water for the future: It is our planet’s life, do you understand?
Water, yes, water is our friend.

World
THIS WORLD IS MY WORLD – LYRICS (song & lyrics by Michel Montecrossa)

This World is my World, this World is your World, it is beautiful and round, a globe of splendor circling
round a central sun.
This World is my World, this World is your World, she is the symbol and the Real of all our souls can ever dream.
This World is my World, this World is your World, we are the guardians and the helpers for her way into the Morn.
This World is my World, this World is your World, honor her and always know: we are here for her highest Dawn.

” ( Diane Mastrull, Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writer reporting ) For their first act, they built the wildly successful sports-apparel company And 1. Now, these entrepreneurial college friends are trying to build a new sector of the economy.

From a converted house in Berwyn, And 1 alumni Jay Coen Gilbert and husband and wife Bart and Chrissy Houlahan are pushing a new type of corporation. Its name is but a single letter: B.

“B” stands for benefit, as in the social and environmental contributions a company makes. A B corporation might, for instance, buy its supplies from local companies and hire underprivileged people from the surrounding community.

Coen Gilbert, the Houlahans, and another Stanford University pal, Andrew Kassoy, have created a nonprofit, B Lab, to certify businesses as B corporations and advocate for them.

Their ultimate goal is to get B corporations legally recognized by local and state governments and the Internal Revenue Service so they can qualify for tax breaks, among other incentives. What B corporations currently cite as benefits are customer loyalty and networking with other socially like-minded businesses that helps reduce operating costs.

In explaining why he believes such corporations deserve more, Coen Gilbert said: “The underlying notion here is that these companies are creating benefits for all of us, not just for themselves.”

It is a concept that seems to be catching on.

Last week, Philadelphia City Council’s Finance Committee forwarded to the full Council for consideration a proposal to give a business-privilege tax credit of $4,000 annually to companies meeting B Lab certification standards. If the plan is approved, Philadelphia would be the first city in the country to recognize sustainable businesses in that way.

B Lab is working to get legislation introduced in six states, including Pennsylvania, that would legally recognize B corporations and, more to the point, qualify them for investment, procurement, and/or tax incentives.

Increasingly, companies have been moving toward a more sustainable, less wasteful way of doing business, not only to trim operating costs but to appeal to green-minded customers and investors.

B corporation certification is done, in part, through a rating system developed by B Lab with a panel of eight independent advisers. It uses about 200 questions – the exact number depends on the size of the business and the industry sector – to assess a company’s effect on its stakeholders: community, employees, environment, suppliers, and customers.

But certification also requires what Bart Houlahan acknowledged “is not a modest task”: To become a B corporation, a company must amend its articles of incorporation to include consideration of stakeholder interests.

“We’re asking an organization to fundamentally change the responsibilities of the business by amending their governing documents,” Houlahan said.

That is required so “the commitment that was so important to that social entrepreneur when they started the company – toward the environment, and their employees, and the community – can be preserved even if new money comes in the door, or new management, and even new ownership,” he said.

Such transparent accounting of companies’ activities is important to “an increasing number of investors that are looking to invest for both financial and social returns,” Coen Gilbert said. “Those investors want to make sure that they’re getting what they paid for – that they’re not just getting a pretty annual report with green grass and blue skies and windmills.”

Though other entities rate products and practices on their sustainability, B Lab is believed to be the only one assessing companies in their entirety and requiring them to legally expand their corporate responsibilities to include stakeholders’ interests. Recertification is required every two years.

In written testimony submitted last week to the City Council panel, Leanne Krueger-Braneky, executive director of the 500-member Greater Philadelphia Sustainable Business Network, lauded B Lab’s random audits of the companies it certifies to ensure that those firms “are doing the good things they say they are doing.”

“This eliminates the potential for greenwashing, a growing problem in larger companies that are spending more on their marketing budgets than they are spending on programs with real impact,” Krueger-Braneky said.

Since B Lab’s creation in 2006, 240 companies in 28 states – including 34 from the Philadelphia region – have been certified as B corporations. They represent 54 industries and have a combined $1.1 billion in revenue and $7 billion in assets.

With annual revenue of $1.5 million, B Lab, which has 12 employees stationed throughout the country, was fully supported by philanthropies such as the Rockefeller Foundation for its first 21/2 years.

It began collecting certification fees six months ago. Those vary depending on a company’s net revenue. For example, a company with annual revenue of $3 million would pay $3,000. For a company with $30 million in revenue, the licensing fee would be $20,000. Fees are capped at $25,000.

A passing certification score is 80 out of 200 points.

The first company to be certified was Untours, a 34-year-old cultural-immersion travel company in Media that uses profits from European vacations to help relieve poverty through the Untours Foundation.

General manager Brian Taussig-Lux said he was not convinced Untours’ purchase of carbon offsets or its commitment to recycling was helping the bottom line. But he credited recent fund-raising successes and employees’ loyalty to Untours’ overall commitment to doing good by the environment, the community, and its workers – all elements of B corporation certification.

“A lot of the benefits are still to come,” Taussig-Lux said. “It’s a long-term investment.”

A parameter is not a component, but this is the first post in an effort to use words to describe what I have clearly in my mind relating to the creation of new settlements. Here I simply want to begin noting parameters of such settlements.

1. They will contain within their bounds most if not all the elements of ecological sustainability. Their own recycling capacity for all or most waste. Collection and distribution and recycling of water. The elements we associated with ”green” communities. It is important to understand that we are talking about creating duplicable elements that could be used in many settlements.

2. They will have no private automobiles and trucks within their borders. Most transportation will be pedestrian with all mechanized transportation limited to public and service vehicles. Communities will be designed to make access to private vehicles possible only outside of their boundaries. Important that this not be seen as a complete rejection of private vehicles. They will have a place, but they will not dictate design as they now do.

More parameters will be discussed in future posts, setting the stage for a discussion of actual components.. In essence, the parameters will be suggestive of the components.

A hybrid electric car (HEC) is a car that uses two or more distinct power sources to move the car. A HEC combines an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. HEC’s consume less gasoline than conventional (internal combustion) cars because the batteries in the HEC get charged when the car breaks. This electric energy is used to fuel the electric engines.

The bushmeat trade is the illegal, over-hunting of wildlife for meat and income.

Already in West and Central Africa this trade has resulted in declines and local extinctions of many wildlife species and the economic, cultural and ecosystem services they provide. In addition, a number of human health threats have emerged from the trade in bushmeat including linkages to HIV/AIDS, ebola and the threat of anthrax.

Bushmeat trade is not regulated or managed by any authority. Economic benefits from the trade go mainly to hunters and traders. If current trends continue, future generations of citizens in Africa will not have the opportunity to access benefits from wildlife. Using wildlife to meet protein and income demands cannot be supported in the long term.

The immediate threat of loss of economic opportunity, cultural and ecological services, and other values to a wider community must be addressed today.
