I’m sure you’ve all read John Donne’s 1624 blockbuster publication Devotions upon emergent occasions and seuerall steps in my sicknes – Meditation XVII. So I’m certain you’re all familiar with his much quoted musing “No man is an island.” This sentiment is also true for women. It gets awfully lonely in my Wrestlegasm office and The Dean isn’t here as much as I hoped he’d be.  In fact, he’s had a ‘Back in 10 minutes’ sign on his office door for a week. I think he’s avoiding me.

With this in mind I have inducted Andrew into the Wrestlegasm family. The details of the induction ceremony have to remain a secret though. Andrew will be your ECW guru from this point onwards. I always felt bad that I largely ignored ECW, because it’s a great, old-fashioned wrestling show. I considered offering him the Raw recap so that I could take ECW, but I don’t think that offer would have been taken up. Just an advanced warning, if Matt Striker goes back to ECW after Wrestlemania 26, I may have to make Andrew disappear.

Also, even though he’s a happily married and very heterosexual family man, Andrew’s totally gay for William Regal. But that’s largely because they both hail from the same part of the North West of England. Totally understandable. If Mickie James suddenly announced that she was really from Barry and started talking like an extra from Gavin & Stacey, I’d switch teams for her too.  Being from up Blackpool way also means he talks funny. And yes, ladies, he’s married. Therefore, off-limits. You can send all the lusty emails to the Wrestlegasm email account you like, but it’s no use. He’s taken. Ain’t it always the way?

It feels a bit odd inviting someone else to join me on this Wrestlegasm journey. This is, after all, my baby. But he’s a top bloke and we’re a good blogging match. We share the same slightly ridiculous and perverted sense of humour, we both spend far too much time thinking about any food covered in pastry and both love wrestling (and wrestlers) a very silly amount.

Andrew’s first offering, a recap of this week’s ECW, will be posted later tonight after my Raw recap. I expect you to show him the same love, affection and  respect you show me. Leave comments and send emails as you do for me. Any friend of mine should be considered a fabulous person and worthy of your adoration.

This match basically is nothing and ends with Bad news crew hitting a chokeslam on Don E. Allen. Sandman hits the ring, and canes everyone as the crowd goes wild. Sandman grabs a mic, and says, “Let’s get extreme!”

Pablo Marquez v. Spiros Greco.

I looked up Spiros Greco online to see if there was any information about him, but they only thing mentioned is this match. Pablo hits a vertical dropkick, but Spiros gets the advantage, and stomps Pablo. Spiro hits a flying closeline, but only gets a two. Spiros hits a double chop that looked very weak, and I do not know if their giving him X-Pac heat or heel heat. “Who are you” chant breaks out. However, Spiros dominates the match. Hey, hat guy is there. Spiros hits a shoulder block followed by a side stretch, and with that, he gets the win @ 4:06. Nothing much to say about this one; it was just an extended squash.

Taz vs.  Joel Hartgood

“Taz is going to kill you” chants break out.  Taz does a beat down on this jobber. Taz hits a vicious closeline, and then a belly-to-belly Tazplex. Joel gets a sunset flip, but can’t remain on offense. The head drop tazplex, and then the tazmission ends it. Taz beat everyone down as they try to help this guy.Whipreck hits the ring and nails Fonzie. Mikey then beats down Taz, but goes to the top rope, and Taz hits a taxsuplex. Mikey gets put in the Tazmission. @ 2:30. Another match that makes Taz look strong for his year a waited match with Sabu at Barely Legal 1997 ½*

Joey is doing the TV intro, when the lights go out, and we are re-introduced to.Brian Pillman! He complains about being fired from WCW. He says that Eric Bischoff is each one of these smart marks rolled up into one. Pillman then says “smart marks”. He says what is a smart mark…A mark with a high IQ? He says a mark is a guy that believes that OJ didn’t do it, and a mark is each and one of you sorry bitches. Pillman says he is going yank out his Johnson and piss this entire place. Pillman goes to, but everyone hits the ring. He calls Heyman the “booker man”. They then say, “He’s shooting, he’s shooting. Pillman spits on a fan, and the fan goes for a punch, but Pillman duck, and then beats the shit out of him. Shane Douglas hits the ring, but Pillman runs. Douglas gets on the mic—and says, “Get that blonde piece of shit out of WCW—or I will beat his ass tonight”. One of the best promos I have ever seen. Pillman delivered that promo better than anyone ever could. They also did a great job of making this really look real as possible. Pillman got some great heat—and they did an excellent job with the beat down on the “fan”. Awesome delivery and truly one of the best segments I have ever seen.

Mr. Hughes vs. Buh Buh Ray Dudley.

This was the stuttering gimmick of Dudley in ECW. The match was very short, and ends with Big Dick jumping Hughes—and Ray hitting a top splash from the top @ 0:30. DUD

The Headhunters vs. The Bruise Brothers

They announced before the match that New Jack would not be here. They fight outside for a bit, then we head into the ring as a Headhunter hits a moonsault on  Bruise Brother while the other Bruise Brother does something to the other Headhunter that the camera misses. Bruise Brothers are announced as the winners at 4:15. DUD

Tommy Dreamer and Beulah come out. Tommy says that Raven hurt his shoulder. Raven and his flock hit the ring. Raven says Dreamer should prepare to die. The bruiser Brothers come out to help Dreamer, but end up turning on him by joining Raven’s flock. They crotch Dreamer a few times on the ring post; then they leave.

JT Smith v. Axl Rotten

They brawl to the outside; Axl nails him with some weapons in the head. Axl chokes JT with a rope. Axl is nailing him with wood and other objects. JT smith recovers and hits Axl with a blind-sided chair shot. JT attacks hat-guy. Axl gets back on the offense, but misses with a big splash in the corner. Axl comes back, but JT fires back. JT hits a scoop slam, and struts around. He grabs a chair, and goes up to the top. He trips, but it is on purpose. Axl turns his back—and JT Smith nails him with the chair. JT then does a beatdown after the match—and hits the moonsault with the chair perfectly. Hack Myers makes the save. @ 8:30. Garbage brawl as you expect. Axl dominated most of the match by using weapons. I loved the finish, and it showed how much of a genius Heyman was. *3/4

Dog Collar Match: The Eliminators/Stevie Richards vs. Pitbulls/Francine.

Richards takes the chain off, and attacks Pitbulls. Richards hangs Pitbull II.  Elim. hit a superplex followed by a big splash from the top. Richards goes for a cover, but doesn’t get it.  Double leg sweep on Pitbull by Eliminators.  Pitbull  tries coming back, but Stevie Kick to the back of Pitbull’s head. Pitbull tries to establish another comeback, but Stevie-kick to the head. On the outside, Pitbulls take control of the match Pitbull II. They do some more garbage brawling on the outside. They go out in the crowd. Later on,  the Eliminators get the pin @ 12:00. Not a bad brawl. They did a good job of letting the heels get some heat by beating up women, and getting a 3-2 advantage on it. I really thought Stevie Richards gimmick was great at this time. The Eliminators were a good tag team, and in my opinion one of the best overall tag-teams in ECW. They had a great character—being these sick-os, psychotic, do not give a crap heels—that got them good heat with a hard crowd to get over. **

TV Title: Sabu vs. 2 Cold Scorpio

Sabu tries to get an advantage, but 2 cold kicks him in the face. Sabu then gets a chair, and uses it to hurt 2 Cold. Sabu sets up the chair as 2 Cold is on the outside, and Sabu uses the chair to jump out of the ring. Back in the ring, Sabu goes for a cover, but only gets two. Scoop slam by Sabu followed by springshot knee-drop. 2 Cold escapes a powerbomb; then hits one of his own. Scoop Slam followed by a big top rope leg drop. 2 Cold talks some crap to the fans, and gets a chair. Back in the ring, 2 Cold beats down Sabu, and sets up a chair. 2 Cold hits a bulldog onto the chair. Both men exchange blows, but 2 Cold gets the advantage. 2 Cold goes for a bulldog, but Sabu counters. Sabu then uses the chair, jumps off and closelines 2 cold over. Back to their feet, Sabu hits a senton off the ring. Sabu grabs a chair, and clocks him with it. Back in the ring, Sabu hits a springboard kick to the face, but only gets two. 2 cold recovers, and hits a super kick. 2 cold grabs the chair, and runs into Sabu with it. 2 Cold works over Sabu, but Sabu counters a Rockbottom. Sabu hits a victory road. ONE-TWO-THRE-NO.  Sabu puts in the camel-clutch. 2 Cold battles back, but Sabu hangs on. 2 Cold drops him, but Sabu puts in a sleeper hold. 2 Cold gets out and kicks him in the nuts. 2 Cold hits him in the nuts, again. 2 Cold hits him with a pizza pan, and then smashes him with a set up table. 2 Cold sets up for a superplex, and delivers, but only for 2. Sabu makes a comeback, and hits a splingshot moonsault. 2 Cold goes up and hits moonsault, but Sabu got his knees up. 2 Cold still makes a pin, but gets two.  Sabu hits him with a chair; then puts the chair under his but. 2 Cold recovers, and drills him with the chair. 2 Cold calls for a TS Piledriver, but plants him forward. 2 Cold then hits a run in rebound of the top rope splash. 2 Cold pulls Sabu’s nuts into the rope. 2 Cold plaints Sabu with two boots to the face. 2 Cold misses a splash from the top. Both wrestlers are down. Sabu tries going up, but 2 Cold hits a sunset flip. ONE-TWO-NO. 2 Cold goes up to the top rope—but Sabu cuts him off. Sabu is going and hits a victory roll from the top. ONE-TWO-THR-NO. 2 Cold still remains on the offense. Irish whip, but Sabu holds on. Sabu throws 2 Cold over.  Suicide-dive to the out side. Sabu hits a couple closelines, and then puts in an armbar. 2 Cold then gets another advantage, and starts working over Sabu.  Sabu hangs on from the F-5 and both go to the floor. Sabu hits a moonsault, but Sabu catches the guardrail. Sabu gets the table and puts 2 Cold on it. Sabu goes in the ring, sets up the chair, jumps on the chair, and then jumps on 2 Cold. Huge ECW chant breaks out. 2 Cold is back up, and hits Sabu with a chair. 2 Cold goes for cover, but only gets 2. 2 Cold brings him back up, and sets up for a powerbomb. Sabu tries to block it, and flips in Franken Steiner. Sabu hits a moonsault press, but only gets two. Sabu goes for a moonsault, but misses. 2 Cold is back on offense and hits a powerbomb. 2 Cold goes for a moonsault into a leg drop, and gets it. ONE-TWO-THRE-NO. 2 Cold goes for a top rope leg drop and hits it with the chair on his face. ONE-TWO-THRE-NOOOO!  2 Cold goes up but catches a chair to the face. Sabu hits a Frankensteiner, but only gets another nearfall. Double closeline. 2 Cold gets up, and hits a 450 splash, but doesn’t go for a cover.  He goes back up to the top with the chair, but misses. Sabu goes for a springboard with the chair on the face, and nails it. 30 seconds remain. Slingshot summersault. Sabu sells the left leg. ONE-TWO-THRE-NO. 2 Cold hits out, and there is the bell @ 30:00. When I saw this match, I was very little so I did not remember how great it was, but I heard tons of praise of it on the Internet. At first, the match was slow—and the pacing felt like it was going nowhere. 2 Cold was just hitting a couple moves; then Sabu would get some offense, but 2 Cold would get back on the offense and hit a move pause hit a move pause and so on. But once they got in the groove it was all smooth sailing from there. So many great spots in this match, that it would be hard to name them all. Sabu was excellent in the role he played, and he did not botch once. Sabu sold the knee effectively all the way through the course of the match. I did not really like how 2 Cold sold, though; all he did was get hit by Sabu’s moves, and get up before him. I do not think that selling is that believable. However, 2 Cold and Sabu clicked at the end, and put a good string of dramatic near-falls and counters at the end to get you on the edge of your seat. ****

Shane Douglas vs. Cactus Jack.

We start with Shane attacking Jack right of the bat. Shane Douglas hits a closeline with the necktie. Shane Douglas keeps beating down Foley. Foley tries to walk it off, and grabs a crutch and nails Douglas with it. Douglas beats down Douglas some more.  Foley is reppin’ the cowboy boots tonight. Shane Douglas then goes up and flies Macho Man style with the double-axe-handle. Douglas is taking it to Jack. Shane Irish whips Jack into the corner and beats the crap out of him.  Douglas hits a leg drag on Foley. The crowd wants Foley to die. Douglas blocks a suplex; then hits one, and crashes Foley into the guardrail. Douglas goes high and over the guardrail. OH MY GOD!!!!!  Back in the ring, Douglas is a snapmare take over, and traps the chair in his foot. Off the top the rope, and onto the chair. Douglas works over the right knee, and hits elbow to the head. Foley comes back elbow to the chin, boot to the face and a chair to the back. Foley walks around, but then attacks Douglas. Slingshot into the ropes. Foley drives an elbow to the throat to Douglas, followed by another. Foley is working him over with boots to the temple. Styles says you can smell that hatred these two have for each other. Foley is driving some forearms to the end. Finger nails across Douglas’ back. Foley works over Douglas some more with some forearms. Douglas falls outside. Foley uses the table to trap Douglas, and drives an elbow. Foley hits drop toehold into the chair, but only gets a dos.  Foley hits a Piledriver. ONE-TWO-NO. Douglas hits Foley with handcuffs, and Douglas set up his Best Friend not for Life. Douglas uses the chair to kill Douglas. He gets on the stick, and tells Foley to get up, so he can kick his ass. They ask if he wants to quit, and he says no. Foley tells Whipreck to get his ass out here. Douglas puts in the figure four. Mikey comes in—and knocks Foley out with the chair. Douglas gets the pinfall @ 15:45. This would end up setting up Whipreck-Foley for his farewell match. Not the best technically sound match, but they got the point of the match over well. This match just proves that Foley can put a good match on with just about anyone. Foley really did a good job of adding some drama in the match; he also took some really brutal chair shots at the end, which would be later copied by WWF in Rumble 1999.*** ¼

ECW Championship: Raven vs. Sandman.

Raven attacks Sandman off the bat. Raven knocks Sandman over, and jumps on him. Raven hits him with a chair, but Sandman reverses and Irish whip into the guardrail. Back in the ring, Sandman hits a delayed vertical brain buster.  The whole flock comes in the match; they bump the ref twice. Richards hits a Stevie kick, but only for two. Raven botches a move, but pushes Sandman into the chair. Raven DDT on the chair. ONE-TWO-THREE. @ 8:30.Post match beatdown occurs. Heyman knew he needed to overbook this one because there was no way Sandman and Raven could have put off anything other than a DUD. However, this was not much better than a DUD. They tried the bag-of-tricks to add drama, but it really did not add much drama into the match. It was just excessively sloppy to get into at all. Too bad these two never clicked in the ring because the rivalry was booked great, but when it came time to deliver in the ring, it failed badly. 1/4*

Going Home: A huge mix bag tonight, but the good was remembered more in my head than the bad. I loved and thought the Pillman worked-shoot was done perfectly. I really enjoyed the Sabu-2 Cold match, and thought the Foley-Douglas match was great also. Their was some crappy stuff in the midcard, which is an easy pass, and  the mainevent was an epic fail, but I still think there is enough good stuff to give this a  solid thumbs up.

This will be a random thoughts type of thing. I’ll comment on whether or not I know anybody that works in WWE, some news items and then at the end I’ve got a couple of questions I’ll reply to.

- I haven’t seen ECW yet (it airs Fridays in Canada although sometimes I watch it on youtube before), but I’m pleased with what I read. I think it’s fantastic that they’ve finally pulled the trigger on giving Shelton Benjamin a title shot at Christian. The best part is that it’s a ladder match at the TLC PPV. I like that a lot. I think when you have a face vs. face match it’s easier to have a gimmick match like a ladder one than it is to have a straight up match. The fans can pop for the spots rather than a particular guy. For what it’s worth, I’ll pick Shelton Benjamin to win that one. I’ll save other picks for other matches at a later date.

- It looks like they’re pulling the trigger on Ezekiel Jackson turning face. That’s good. I can see him getting moved to Smackdown if he fairs well due to SD being short on the babyface side a little bit. A big guy like him s going to get the opportunity to prove himself to Vince. And no, I don’t care if he can make his boobs dance. I really don’t.

- The matches for the TLC PPV look like this: Cena vs. Sheamus in a Tables match for the WWE title, Batista vs. Undertaker in a Chairs match for the World Title (no idea what a Chairs match entails although I assume chairs are the only weapons they can use), DX vs. Jerishow in a TLC match for the tag titles and Christian vs. Benjamin for the ECW title in a ladder match. I assume that none of the other matches will be using a TLC type theme to them, which is fine by me. Four is enough. I’m not crazy about table matches, but I guess that’s a way to make Sheamus more of a threat than he would be in a regular singles match due to the fact that Cena rarely loses.

- People always ask me if I know, talk to, email or chat with anybody in WWE. The answer is yes. I’m not giving out any names. There are three current on air performers that I email with on a semi regular basis. One of them gave me high praise for my roster evaluation columns, which is how I got in touch with them. I’m not saying who it was, but it was somebody that wasn’t in the top five overall. One of them has been writing me on and off for like four years when they were still training to be a wrestler. The third one is somebody that I chat with on AOLIM. And yes, they are all legit. I’ve checked.

There are also two people that I’m in contact with that work for WWE, but you wouldn’t know them by name. I’ve met one of them in person as recently as a few weeks ago, which was pretty awesome. I’m not giving out names, though. They ask for privacy and I respect them enough to give them that. It’s pretty cool to know that your stuff is being read by people that are affiliated with WWE. I’m not going to change my writing style, though, that’s for sure. I might suck up to these people more! I’m sure that will lead to some people guessing. Have fun.

- The new ring announcer on ECW, Lauren Mayhew, is already gone. They had a short term deal for her and chose not to extend it. They didn’t like her enough and I don’t think she liked it enough. As I said to my friends on facebook, if they fired women who weren’t skilled as wrestlers they’d only have about six or seven women on the roster right now rather than the 20 or so that they have. I guess there’s a spot open again for chicks that look good in a tight dress. Good luck to them all.

- I like the WWE Divas turkey shoot at: http://www.wwe.com/superstars/divas/galleries/turkeyshoot2009/ – Of course Mickie’s photos are my favorite, but the more I see of Eve the more I like. She’s absolutely gorgeous.

Now for some mailbag questions. The questions will be in italics. My answers will be in regular font:

You wrote a few weeks ago that Hogan was infamous for not selling a three count by kicking out at the third slap. It got me thinking. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of those and in many ways it’s a very subtle and effective piece of ring psychology. It does create a little tension for a potential rematch. After all how decisive is this victory? What is the reason and origin of this craft in the first place? Who in your experience is the absolute master of this questionable art? What’s the best one in recent memory? My personal favorite is the kick out Sgt Slaughter did on believe it or not Hogan at WM VII.

I get a lot of different types of questions. This one is pretty bizarre. I don’t remember too many instances of guys kicking out after the three aside from Hogan doing it to Ultimate Warrior and also against Sting at Starrcade 1997 although that whole thing was screwed up from the start with the supposed fast count that wasn’t even fast. Good job remembering the Slaughter thing. I wonder if that was why he never got nearly the same push ever again after that. I doubt Hogan the egomaniac was pleased.

I think that if you’re told to lay down for the three you should lay down. I don’t like the kick out right after three especially if it comes after a finisher. That hurts the guy doing the pin. I guess I’m old school like that.

You may get this question a lot, but what do you think will happen with the Undertaker’s Mania streak? I’m kind of torn on the issue because I think it would be a great way to honor him if they allow him to stay undefeated, but I could see them wanting him to create a new “monster” to take his place by losing the streak to that person, whoever that might be.

I guess my question is, what do you think will happen long term with the streak? And if someone ends it, who and how many years from now? I don’t think it should be Preparation H, the Heart Attack kid or SuperCena that ends it, though those are probably the obvious choices. I think it would really make a young guy’s career and turn him into the next big thing if he was the one who ended the streak.

I don’t know if WWE has a young monster-type star in the wings as of yet, but if they were able to get Matt Morgan from TNA I think he could turn into one of those unstoppable forces if they let it happen and if they were able to get him. To me, a top guy doesn’t need to end the streak because they are already established. I was just curious as to what you thought.

I don’t think the streak should ever end. I know that probably sounds lame because in the wrestling business you’re supposed to have veterans lose to make the next guy. It’s a streak, though. Let it live. It’s weird that something like a win streak in a business that has pre-determined outcomes is so important, but to me it is.

Now, if somebody were to beat him I would definitely make it a rising star type rather than an established person. I don’t want to list names of current people because all signs are pointing to Undertaker/Cena this year. The best scenario would be the younger guy beats him clean, Undertaker shakes his hand, raises his arm and they really establish somebody as a legitimate top guy by doing that. Will it happen? I doubt it.

I have no idea what WWE thinks about it. If it’s me, though, I say don’t end the streak ever. Fans like it. It’s not like a champion having to put over somebody else. It’s just a streak. Let it live.

WWE ECW on SYFY November 24, 2009

Well, here we go with my first ECW recap. The show affectionately referred to as the D-Show. I personally find ECW to be the more exciting show, after all they do have the better talent base, Christian, Shelton Benjamin, William Regal, and Vance Archer…well maybe not Vance but at least there is no D-X, Batista or Undertaker to ruin the show. With this show I’m going to start using my own star ratings, I rate matches based on how much I like the guys/girls involved, crown reaction and if it can keep my interest. Curious who they have to replace Lauren as the ring announcer, to bad she left I was just starting to like her. On with the show as they say.

ECW still has the better opening theme song, I don’t care for either Smackdown or RAW’s new songs. Abraham Washington Show with Matt Hardy is the main event, really? Cool, we open with one of my favorites Zack Ryder and the always hot Rosa Mendes. So, Tony Chimel is doing the ring announcing for ECW, at least it’s not the Bella Twins. Recap time as they cover one of the better feuds right now Shelton Benjamin, the most underrated man in wrestling, and Zack. Which obviously brings out Shelton Benjamin, this should be a great match.

1. Shelton Benjamin v. Zack Ryder. Shelton really starting out strong here, as Rosa is sitting ringside. You have to love Shelton pulling Zack in front of Rosa to pound on him, but that costs Shelton as Zack now has an advantage. Shelton counters an Irish whip with one of the best belly to belly suplexes since the days of Magnum T.A. If Shelton wins, he’s the number one contender, well better than Regal v. Christian again. Come back from commercial and Zach has the advantage thanks to Rosa’s distraction. I love when the announcers talk about Twitter, that’s great. Zack gets a two count of a second rope splash, so far a great match. Damn, Zach slows it down with a leg scissor; at least it was only for about 30 seconds. Zack goes up top, gives the LI sign, and hits a nice Superfly Splash, but once again only a two count. Impressed with the crowd getting into the match. Shelton does his own version of Hulking up, and hits the corner splash, followed by a picture perfect German Suplex for two. Shelton hits the Paydirt for the finish, much to the dismay of Rosa. Shelton is now the number one contender that should be a great match. **** stars, was a great match between two of the most underrated stars in the WWE right now. Christian’s music hits, and out comes the champion.
2. Christian in the ring after the commercial, Shelton is still there as well. Christian hypes up the PPV in 3 weeks, TLC. Can ECW actually get on the PPV for once, just as I type it Christian says the ECW title has been overlooked? No really! Christian challenges Shelton to a ladder match now that is going to be awesome. Much better then Sheamus v. John Cena in a table match. Christian says they’re going to steal the show, and Shelton agrees as do I.
3. Vance Archer v. Alex Reynolds. Alright vintage 80’s squash match! Vance quickly just powers the kid down and is laying a beating on him. Vance hits a rest hold only in minute in; the man has stamina like Scott Steiner. I still say Vance should’ve come out dressed as Robin Hood with bow and arrow and merry men. Vance with a flip over reverse DDT and the win. Well that was quick and painless at least and it gave Archer another chance to show what he has, not a lot. * star, what more can you give a squash that included a rest hold? I still look forward to seeing Archer in there with a name.
4. Time for the man with the greatest laugh in wrestling Tony Atlas, who introduces Abraham Washington or Abe as he called him. Tony is the true star of these segments; he just looks like he’s having so much fun. You got to love all the shrill shrieks for the mention of Twilight! Well, that was a long way to go to get to a really lame joke. The crowd pops, as always, for Matt Hardy, the better half of the Hardy team. Abraham Washington mentions he wishes Matt was Jeff, Matt says I wish you were Conan, Tony agrees! Matt is on here to hype up he’s on some show called Scare Tactics, not a clue what that is, but whatever. Oh, well here comes the clip, well that looked stupid, about as lame as Punk’d. Abraham says nothing scares him as Tony sneaks up behind him and now Abraham needs a Laundromat. That may have been the best part of the skit; sadly Matt says the same thing. Sometimes I swear I should be booking this stuff. Abraham says we’re out of time and leaves, Matt shows Tony how to do the Version One.
5. Yoshi Tatsu v. William Regal. William Regal comes out with Ezekiel and Vladimir. Should be an interesting match between the young up and comer and the veteran. Both men exchange European Uppercuts, with Yoshi getting the advantage, kicking Regal to the corner. Regal reverses an Irish whip with a vicious clothesline. Vladimir pushes Yoshi off the ropes; Yoshi hits the roundhouse kick and scores the upset victory! Yoshi gets out the ring quickly as the Roundtable enter the ring. Regal gets up slowly as Ezekiel and Vladimir stand over him. Regal gets in the face of Ezekiel and Vladimir, big mistake. Vladimir blames Ezekiel, who pushes Kozlov’s hand down and hits the uranague. Regal tries to calm down Jackson, who’s not having any of that. Regal turns away from the big man, who just calmly steps over Kozlov, and hits an uranague on Regal now. I guess we can call that Jackson’s face turn now? Great does this mean Jackson v. Kozlov next week; I don’t want to see that? As for the match itself, **½ stars, was a little too quick but what we got was good. The end superseded the match itself though.

All in all not a bad show tonight. Zack and Shelton just tore up the show and nothing else was going to compare but the stuff involving Matt and Tony was hilarious. I’m looking forward to Shelton and Christian at The TLC PPV coming up, that is going to be a great match.

The Eliminators are in the back, as John Kronus is shaving his hair off, while Perry Saturn is laughing with the title in his hand. John is saying does he think they care about his hair; then he says he will eliminate you (referring to Pitbulls).

Joey Styles is in the ring as Bill Whistle Man and Taz march into the ring. Bill starts ranting on Joey Styles saying he hates him and hates Queens, New York. Bill says that 911 is finish. Rey Mysterio Jr. interrupts Taz—and says he is not afraid of Taz. Bill talks some trash, but then Rey spinning-heel kicks him. Rey then hits a botched hurrcanarana. Rey goes up the top and tries to go springboard, but get caught in a Taz Suplex. Rey fights back but Taz hits another Taz Suplex that puts Rey inside and out.  Wrestlers and Refs come out to check on Rey. Joey Styles is addressing for some help for Rey.  Joey Styles then puts over ECW by saying that you will not see action like this. Woman enters, and says that Joey Styles and her can go to WWF, but Joey says he wants to stay here. Sandman enters, and she asked him if he wants to come with her. He says he does not want to “come” with her, and then he says she has been a bitch her whole life. Women says she wants to stay here along time being the bitch here for along time, and no one is going to remove her from the ring. 2 Cold comes out and joins Women.  2 Cold then says business is picking up. He pretends he is with her, but he says Nancy you out of here. 2 Cold takes her out of the arena, and puts her in the limo. Stevie Richards comes out with Blue Meany, and lays down the offer. Sandman says never has he ever backed down from a fight. Richards says Sandman feels like a tough person with a chain in his and—and he thinks Blue Meany and him are a puss. Richards says Sandman should back out of the match—or he will have to Stevie-kick him. Blue Meany says he will do it. Blue tries to superkick him, but cannot reach him. Sandman canes Meany and Sandman said he is going for Raven. Richards is paranoid, as Raven enters the ring. Raven calls Stevie a moron. Raven then disses on Meany. Ravens says he was supposed to give Beulah her pill, but he could not handle that. Raven starts to beat the crap out of him. Richards tries sucking up to Raven. He goes into Blue’s paints—and it says Richards the king of dancing is engaging a lawsuit against Missy Hyatt for sexual harassment. Hyatt comes out and calls Richards a joke. Raven says that the other option is that she joins up with him. Hyatt says look at her and look at Raven because he is not on her level. She says that the bitch he is with now is a whore, and we all know that Raven has a low sperm count since Dreamer knocked up his ex. Raven gets angry and takes his coat off.  Sandman makes the save and canes all of them. Hyatt tells Sandman she likes that. Sandman and Hyatt celebrate hardcore style with beer, squares and Enter Sandman in the back round.

Joey Styles recaps what has been happening in ECW so far.  Joey Styles calls Taz offensive to the wrestling industry because of his evil intentions.

Shane Douglas/ Tommy Dreamer. w/ Beulah vs. Stevie Richards/Raven

Richard and Dreamer start the match. Dreamer hits a closeline that drives Richards out, and the crowd is wild up.  Shane sets up a chair near Richards head and Dreamer baseball slides into it. Dreamer throws Richards in. Richards puts on a Razor shirt and puts a toothpick behind the ear trying to piss off Shane. It cuts to a better part as Shane is cleaning house with the chair.  Shane tries getting a pin on Raven, but gets only two. Douglas hits a Piledriver on Richard, but Raven makes the save. Tommy jumps Raven. Cactus jumps into the match. Shane fights off Foley. Raven hits Shane with something, but only gets tow. Sandman enters, canes everyone including the ref as the place goes wid. Raven gets up, and pins Douglas, but there is no ref. Richards wakes up the ref, and Raven pile drives Douglas. ONE-TWO-NO.  Richards gets the tag in, and dominates Douglas. Raven comes back in, but Douglas hits him with a DDT.  Both men are done in the ring. Dreamer wants the tag, but Richards cuts him off. Richards hits a Stevie-bomb. ONE-TWO-NO.  Douglas gets Irish wiped, but hits a launch backwards springboard elbow. Dreamer has a frying pan and cleans house with it. Richards gets tree of wowed, and catches a pain in the groin. Dreamer goes for a cover, but Raven hits them with a chair. Dreamer gets back up, and attacks Richard. Meany is clueless and hits a meanymoonsualt onto Richards. Tommy goes for a pin, but Raven breaks it up. Raven hits a DDT but only gets two. She ties the frying pain to Dreamer’s boot. Dreamer kicks Stevie in the head. ONE-TWO-THREE.  You could feel the drama and the heat between all the wrestlers in the match. The excessive run ins and shenanigans made it a little overbooked, but that was pretty much what ECW was all about; it was about having that realism playing in—and making it seem like anything can happen at any given moment. Pretty decent and exciting and well booked match overall, but I cannot rate a match that was this clipped fairly.

Taz vs. Shark attack kid.

The kid tries to get fancy with Taz, but he gets drilled with a T-Bone on his head. Taz then hits a vicious Tazplex onto the kid, but Kid gets back up. Taz hit a belly-to-belly suplex him from the top of the top. Taz puts in the Taz-mission and that is it @ 2:00. Taz calls out 911, but Gordon comes out with the mic. Gordon comes out and says 911 do not want to wrestle him. Bill calls out Gordon. Gordon gets in the ring, and Gordon punches him in the face. Gordon closelines Bill—and attacks him. Taz attacks Gordon, but Bam Bam Bigelow makes the save! Bam Bam calls out Taz.

Going Home: We started ECW off this week with possibly the longest segment in the history of humanity. Well maybe I am exaggerating, but it was still very long. Some of the stuff on it was very interesting, but some of it was simply ridiculous. I liked the stuff with Sandman and Raven’s flock; it drew good heat and expanded the rivalry in the right direction. I found the stuff with Missy Hyatt and the restraining order to be entertaining, and they did a good job of making you want to see where Sandman and Hyatt goes from this point on. Both matches on the show were fine, but I think there could have been more wrestling on this show than what they gave us. Taz was possibly the most interesting and well-booked thing going for ECW at the time and I loved how they brought in Bam Bam in surprisingly. Overall, the show wasn’t bad, but if you missed it—or haven’t seen it, you really are not missing a whole lot.

Raven cuts a promo saying he wants to introduce is to his most prized possession—the ECW belt as he throws that whore out of the way.

Opening Match: Juventud Guerrera vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

This is JG’s debut into ECW—and he faces Rey who has been in ECW for a couple of months now. We cut to commercial as we come back there is a “Fonzie Must Die” tee-shirt plug. The bell rings, and JG hits a firemans carry into a slam. Rey gets the advantage with the side headlock, but JG gets out, but Rey Mysterio hits a nice arm drag. JD hits an arm drag of himself. Joey Styles mentions that their both 21 years old right now. JG hits a spine buster but only gets two. They start exchanging slaps to the face. They both get up, JG softy paintbrushes him, but  Rey gives him a big slap. Now the action gets fast; Rey kicks his legs out, but JG lands on his feet. Rey tries to monkey flip him over, JG lands on his feet on the outside of the ropes. Rey goes to the top and hits a hurrcanarana. Rey and JG both exchange flashy moves. Rey comes back, and hits a closeline, and a head scissor. Rey then hits a springboard hurrcanarana followed by an over the top senton onto JG. Rey puts the chair on JG neck and drives him into the turn post, twice. JG comes back in, and hits a dropkick. Rey tries to do a dive under the legs, but JG hits him with a German Suplex. JG goes for a tigerbomb, and nails it. ONE-TWO-NO. JG press slams Rey into a throw away slam with a bridge. ONE-TWO-NO. Rey comes back, and hits a hurrcanarana for only a two. Rey hits a powerslam, but cannot put JG away. Rey goes up to the top, but JG cuts him off. JD is going for Splash Mountain, but Rey counters with a hurrcanarana and gets the win @ 9:34. The match was a very good opener; it had incredibly high pacing and tons of innovative and outstanding moves. Even though Juventud did not pick up the win, he still looked very credible in the match. I wish they gave this match more time, but it would have been very difficult to that because they really only got 45 minutes of TV time a week—so it was hard to actually give the midcard much time for Paul E. The match also gets an extra boost because Joey Styles was so excellent at calling all the moves in this match—and getting everything over. ***

Foley is in the back with Whipreck and Foley starts putting Whipwreck over. Foley then ask if he wanted to go to WWF, but Mickey says he is happy here.

ECW Tag Titles:Mikey Whipreck/ Cactus Jack vs. Eliminators (Perry Saturn/John Kronus)

Foley takes off his shirt, and under his other shirt, it says “WW F’N F”, which breaks out a “you sold out” chant.  John Kronus and Mikey tie up and John pushes him down. Mikey takes John down with a headlock. Saturn tags in, but Mikey does some nice arm drags into a headlock. Cactus pulls him off because he wants in the match. Foley gets on the mic and buries Mikey on the mic by saying Mikey has not done much, and that he won the titles all by himself. Foley works over Perry, and then tags in Mikey. Mikey puts in an arm hold, so Foley gets irate and pushes him off. Eliminators work over Mikey. Kronus puts in a rest hold, but Mikey comes back but Saturn cheap shots him. Kronus powerbombs Mikey; then PS drops a knee on Mikey from the top rope. PS hits a lariat but only gets 2.  Eliminators work over Mikey more.  Mikey is slowly going to Foley and makes the tag. Foley starts to work over both of them, but the numbers game start to take place. Foley regroups and hits a Cactus closeline and sends Perry over the top. Foley hits a springboard elbow on the outside to Perry. Foley hits a Piledriver, but does not want the count. Foley wants to hit Perry with it,but Mikey stops him. Perry has the glass, but Mikey saves Foley from getting hit. Mikey starts to clean some house. Eliminators regroup and hit Total Elimination @ 11:20. After the match, Raven does a beat down on Mikey, but Foley saves him. Foley trash talks Raven in the corner, but then Cactus closelines Whipreck. Raven grabs a chair and starts smashing Whipreck with it. Foley then hits a DDT on the chair. After that, Eliminators cut a promo with Styles. Francine says she joined the Eliminators, but ends up being a trick as Pitbulls come out; then they do a beat down on them. Pitbulls then cut John’s hair. The storytelling was great, but the wrestling in the match varied from great to sloppy. The more newsworthy and better action came after the match than in it. **

OG cut a promo on Pitbulls saying that they should not be attacking Eliminators because they beat them, not the Eliminators.

In the back, Dreamer cuts a promo with a candle lit over his bloody hand. He talks about mental pain and his hate for Raven. He talks about how he must snuff him out.

Foley cuts a promo with Raven with some Pulp Fiction playing in the background. Foley rants on Mikey on how he helped him in life. However, all he did was throw it down the toilet.  Foley talks about how he has an eating disorder, and other weird stuff.

Shane Douglas is just laughing

Taz and Whistle man are ranting about New York. Taz says he will choke out all comers.

Pitbulls rant on Eliminators.

OG tell Pitbulls are going down, and the Gangstas are alive.

Beulah then tells Raven she faked it with him.

Raven is under the stairs, he talks about his scars, and how people think he does not have love but they are wrong.

2 Cold talks about how he loves a good women than describes what he loves about them. He asks if his baby wants to come in, he brings her in and it is his title. He gives the title a big kiss. 2 Cold talks about he gets all the women and now has the gold.

Pitbulls talk about how they took Eliminators pride and hair.

Eliminators are in the back, as John cuts his hair off asking them do they really think he cares that they cut his hair off. John says all that matters is that they have the gold because they make more money.

Going Home: No matter if you are pro-ECW or not; you cannot deny that ECW in 1996 was not written awesomely. Everything on this show was very enjoyable and set a purpose. The opener was a very good match, the ECW tag match was entertaining, the Dreamer promo was deep, and then the ending promos are brilliantly done. I just loved how they played the Pulp Fiction music in the back round as they all did their promos. Out of all the promos, I have to say that Foley’s was the best, but not to take away from the awesome, crazy segment with the Eliminators when John cut his hair off in a psychotic way.

In this show, they did a great job of explaining what is going on, and it also made you want to see want is going to happen on the next show. Dreamer-Raven, Foley-Whipreck and Pitbulls-Eliminators were all very interesting feuds that were must see. ECW in 1996, is when I think Heyman didn’t write with a pencil; he was writing with gold, because he made the best out of nothing, and that is why he is considered one of the greatest writers of all time. If you do not believe it, watch this episode, and this is coming from a person who thinks people overrate ECW.

- WWE has booked a bunch of “little people” for the November 30th RAW taping in Baltimore, Maryland where actor Verne Troyer of Austin Powers fame will be the celebrity host.

- The John Cena vs. Randy Orton RAW live event matches that were scheduled for December have been changed to Cena vs. Big Show.

- The latest on Edge is that people within WWE feel it’s a touch-and-go situation if he will be back in time for Wrestlemania and they are going under the assumption that it’s less than 50% right now.

- Among those interviewed for the new WWE announcer position last week were Sean Mooney and former XPW announcer Kris Kloss. Someone from the group was hired but it’s unknown when they will debut on TV. The word going around is that Mooney was hired but that’s not confirmed.

- ProWrestling.net is reporting that another round of drug testing was issued to the talent backstage at Impact this week. It was apparently a test issued to the entire roster, as several top names in the company were tested.

- We reported several weeks ago that the current creative plan in TNA calls for Tomko to be revealed as AJ Styles’ mystery attacker on Impact. ProWrestling.net is now reporting that the idea is to have AJ face Tomko at either the January of February PPV of 2010. Reports are indicating that although Tomko has signed a short term deal with TNA, he IS expected to eventually face Styles on PPV.
