Yes, I realize that this is completely stupid and pointless.

But hey, guess what!  This is my space!  So that means I can whine if I want to.

Most people who know me are well aware that I am a flip-flop whore.  I care nothing for expensive shoes, name brand clothing, I don’t carry a purse at all, and jewelry means almost nothing to me.  But I love flip-flops.  I wear them until I truly cannot handle the cold anymore.  I have nearly-permanent tan lines on my feet now, and I love them.

However, because of my inability to walk like a human being, my physical therapist and I used to get in knock down, drag out arguments about my footwear.  He didn’t want me to wear them at all, and I refuse to give them up.  We finally hammered out a compromise: I would only wear the “good” ones, well constructed, with actual defined arch support, well padded, etc.  No cheapies, no flat ones, nothing that doesn’t actually support the foot.  so I pay quite a bit more for them, but they also last, as well.  So I have Tevas, Rocket Dogs, Reefs, Rainbows, Ocean Minded…this is the one place where “brand names” do have a place in my life.

So why am I whining, you ask, when the compromise was acceptable?

Because I stumbled on, and fell in love with these:

There are dozens of different designs and colors.  They’re drawn and colored like classic tattoos and they’re just so cool.  I just think they’re fun and I find myself coveting.

The problem?  They are flat and thin.  No arch support, not enough cushioning, and there is just no way I can do it.  I gave my word to Jeff, and I keep my word.  And really, I have enough trouble walking without falling.  Pushing it with something like this would be stupid, and I know it.

But goddammit, it sucks.

My recent trip to Las Vegas reminded me just how awful the club scene is out there. It’s worse than any local douchebag infested club you live near. Im serious, I dont care if you live in Chicago or Idaho it doesnt get worse than the commercial toilet that is Las Vegas nightlife. Just when you think it cant get any worse they have the holy grail of douchbaggery. The holy land of assholes. They actually made a fucking Christan Audiger nightclub. No seriously…..

I only wish Jim Jones the cult leader not the rapper was still around to host a night.  Doesnt seem to far fetched either.  If you buy into and follow this culture, you are a sheep.  You are no different than the cult followers who eventually killed themselves because they were told a cyanide pill was a flinestones chewable.  So if you go to Las Vegas, throw on your  Ed Hardy shirt, and head down to the Christan Audiger club, you to should also kill yourself because your better off coming back as a lobster.  It’s the same across the board for Vegas nightlife.  Same bullshit lines with bottle service and strict dress codes.  Luckily when I was there I had an escort who led me around the clubs so I wouldnt have to go through all of that and I still fucking hated it.  I can’t imagine actually trying to go through that as just a regular tourist.  Oh and if you have an out of state id, it’s going to run you at least $50.  They have signed commercial mainstream top 40’s dj’s to spin at these clubs who give you the same watered down garbage.  You can look forward to an evening of Crooklyn Clan mash ups with a shit ton helping of Fatman Scoop & DJ Kool vocal drops.

Genocide is so hot right now

So some airline did a fashion photo shoot for their in-flight magazine at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin (Never Forget To Look Sexy At Gas Chamber After-Parties?). There are obviously a lot of things one could say about this, mostly along the lines of “This is the worst.” But can anyone say they’re genuinely surprised?

Let’s put this latest travesty by the fashion industry in perspective. Remember this?

Not even a month ago.

“What am I doing? Oh, nothing, just glamorizing a hateful practice steeped in the history of colonial dehumanization of an entire race of people. You know, hate crimefashion.”

Before that, there was the exploitation of poverty-stricken children as fetishized authenticity props, otherwise known as “the Slumdog Millionaire phenomenon.”

And not like fashion even needs all of these strikes against it to be the worst. Just look at the awful human beings it creates.

Today I was browsing the Internet, acquiring some knowledge if you prefer to call it like that, and I came across a posting that had the right path of creativity, therefore, I decided to re-invent it, edit it, and change it for your delightful entertainment.  Hopefully all of us girls can identify.. My Boyfriend Application and Test

First, a little about me. I’m a 26-year-old, very  good looking and intelligent Latina, with a full time Job and  attending University. I’m tired of wasting my time, so I have formulated some mandatory criteria in part A, and part B is based on points.

Part A

1) You must be born male. I’ll need to see a birth certificate proving so.

2) You must own something to wear to a formal reception. And at least a couple formal shoes.
3) You must not own or ever wear Birkenstocks, crocs footwear or wrangler jeans. Or wear your jeans so low, that  I can see the end of your briefs.
4) All your parts need to be in good working order, further testing will need to be conducted of course.
5) I can’t accept a regular drug user. Despite CA culture, I am including weed.
6) You must own at least four collared dress shirts. You need to look presentable standing next to me.
7) Your height must be proportional to your weight using the standard AMA guidelines. (fyi, I do prefer them taller than me, so you have to be at least 6 feet) .
You must have a couple photos which were  taken in the last 2 months.
9) English must be your first language. However you need to have a pretty good understanding of Spanish and Latin culture, or at least a desire to learn.

If you meet all of the requirements above then you may continue, if not, then you are now dismissed but thank you for applying to be my boyfriend.

Now: give yourself two points for each of the following criteria you meet

Part B

1) You have (or are working on) a degree.
2) You own a car and have a valid driver’s license. Suspended for DUIs: minus 10 points.

3) If your car is better and newer than mine add 5 points
4) You’ve never worn Ed Hardy, Affliction or any other Christian Audigier affiliated brand.

5) If 80% of your shoes can be described as sneakers take minus 5 points.
6) You follow at least one professional sport.
7) You have skills in bed. Not because you think you do, because your past experiences have told you.
You are not a born again Christian, Jehovah’s Witness or any other kind of religious fanatic.
9) You have been to at least three countries outside of the US.
10) You don’t need to call a handy man if something breaks around the house.
11) You know how to cook a meal for two. (Eggs, instant noodles, sandwiches, lean cuisine do not count as a meal)

12) You actually do shores around the house, like doing dishes after I cooked, help cleaning the kitchen, bringing flowers, wine etc..
13) You like stepping out of your bubble and trying new things like different cuisine, bungee jumping, salsa dancing.
14) You can make it through a romantic comedy without complaining (don’t worry we don’t have to tell your friends).
15) You have a great sense of humor. Are people laughing with you, or at you?
16) You can plan a good date without any help or advice from me. “I don’t know, what do you want to do” isn’t an answer.
17) You work out and enjoy being physically active. I hit the gym regularly, you should too.
18) You have a job that requires more than a high school diploma.
19) You read books, or at least you read the newspaper, so we can talk about worldwide subjects.  

20) You are an educated individual. You challenge my intellectual abilities.
21) You have a 5 year goal.
22) You aren’t afraid of being yourself, even if you have a dorky, nerdy side. (that’s kinda hot).
23) You’re competitive, and I don’t mean you like to battle it out on Wii with your buddies on the weekends.
24) You know how to dance.

25) You are spontaneous and creative.

26) You are secure about yourself and us. Meaning I’m not looking for a jealous, immature, insecure chauvinistic pig. People are going to check us out. Just enjoy the ride, at the end of the night I’m going home with you.

27) Last but not least, you can acknowledge when you screw up, and say sorry;  flowers and a romantic dinner might help you get some points back.

If you have a score of 40+ then please contact me immediately. If you scored between 20-35 pts, you can contact me, but I don’t have a lot of hope for our future relationship. I swear, the second it gets above 60 degrees in Manhattan people think it’s the damn summer time and start up with ridiculous warm weather clothes…in November. The other day I saw a dude walking across 14th street wearing flip flops and Manpris (or capris for men) and no jacket. Now I’m all about the beautiful late fall weather, but it made me realize that there are way too many man trends that just need to die.

#1: Manpris- The term came from my sister Christine and our friend Tori who also coined the terms Murse and Mandals. They live in Hawaii and see all sorts of awful trends but we all agree that the cropped pants need to hit the road. I hate capris on anyone but nothing says failed trend quite like a dude in short pants.

#2: Carpenter Pants- Gentlemen, are you really still buying carpenter pants?! Unless you’re painting my house, please ditch these ridiculous slacks. And Old Navy- please stop selling them!!

#3: Ugg Boots for Dudes- I can tolerate Ugg boots for women, but men are not to wear suede Ugg boots under any condition, especially with skinny jeans tucked into them (see #5).

#4: Sports Jerseys- Sports jerseys are strictly for sporting events. They are not to be worn as regular clothes. Got it, Jeter? Sidebar from my husband who is a Giants season ticket holder: If you’re a Mets/Yankees/Knicks  fan and wear a different sport jersey to a Giants game, we will make fun of you. Shell out $20 for the coordinating sport or face our wrath.

#5: Skinny Jeans- I am just starting to accept skinny jeans on chicks. On men, my eyes immediately go to your privates. I can’t help it, I think anyone but Mick Jaggar looks ridiculous in skinny jeans.

#6: Fedoras or Pork Pie Hats- We were in Williamsburg the day of the NYC marathon and I counted 7 Rat Pack-esque hats on Bedford Avenue. Hipsters are annoying and so are their fedoras. (For more on hipsters, go to http://www.latfh.com and laugh your arse off).

#7: Pants Hanging Below the Butt- How in the hell do men walk with their pants hanging so low??? Never mind the fact that I have to stare at your boxer-clad tush in the subway, you make me late to work by walking so slow, trying to keep up your trousers. Stop the insanity!

#8: The Wife Beater as a Shirt- The sleeveless white ribbed undershirt, lovingly referred to as the “wife beater” is an undershirt. It’s to be worn under button down shirts or in the privacy of your own home. They are not real shirts and should not be treated as such.

#9: Ed Hardy Wear- Jon Gosselin officially killed Ed Hardy for me. Seeing that bloated, child-neglecting ass clown cavorting around NYC in head-to-toe Ed Hardy officially pushed the entire line into the Just Say No category.

#10: Pleated Khakis- What’s the #1 way to look fat and dumpy? Throw on a pair of pleated khakis! I didn’t even know they were still available, which makes me think that there are some men out there who need to make a donation to Goodwill this Christmas.

So there you have it–little tips that will make getting dressed in the morning just a tiny bit easier.  I love New York City men, but I need to call out some of these fashion mistakes before they grow to Gosselin sized proportions.
