I’ve been crazy busy this weekend because of all sorts of schoolwork and such, but that doesn’t mean my mind hasn’t been working on other things as well. I find myself pondering the oddest things sometimes. Here are a few of my recent thoughts of varying intellectual merit, as recorded in my notebooks:

• Why do people always say that it’s impossible for a woman to just be friends with a man? I mean, don’t they know about St. Francis and St. Clare? Sure, it’s hard, but not impossible. I have a lot of guy friends I would never want to get involved with, and I’m pretty sure they feel the same way.

• Thomas Moore’s Utopia is the long way of saying “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

• What would happen if Edward Elric had ended up in Death Note? He probably would do something stupid to piss L off, like transmute the Death Note into a tree. Oooh! Death Tree! Tree of DOOOM!

• The Honors Student Cookbook could be epic. (Not sure what I had planned for this one)

• I wonder if it’s actually possible to be a professor who is neither super-easy nor pedantic. . . if so, I’ve yet to meet one. This makes me fear for my future.

• Samuel L. Jackson should totally play Scar in an FMA live action. And Robert Downey Junior should play Greed.

• Women are influence ninjas. They’re super-subtle and super-effective.

• Pascal, you keep using that word (infinity). I do not think it means what you think it means. -The Pensees Bride?

• I need to tell my dad to take magnesium tablets. Apparently they help you sleep better.

• Intellectual Bishies: Shelley, Jefferson, VonHildebrand, Moore? I’m sure there are many others. . . (I was really tired that day, I think.)

• God is my sensei.

• Is Antonio from Twelfth Night really gay, or is my honors teacher psycho?

• Am I the class rep now? That’s so not my trope. (My trope is far more Bunny Ears Lawyer crossed with Tsundere. . .)

Daha önceden Japon rap şarkılarını sevmediğimi söylemiş miydim? Let it All Out üzerine böyle bir Japon rap parçasının ne kadar iyi gideceği konusunda bir şey demek istemiyorum; zira şarkıyı hiç beğenmediğimi dile getirmeme de gerek yok sanırım; lakin görüntüler muhteşem.

Winry’i yeni evinde, sanatını icra ederken seyretmek, en azından aklının Ed ve Al’da olmadığını, işine konsantre olduğunu görmek sevindirici… Çeşitli aletlerle, Rush Valley’de yer alan Garfield’ın atölyesinde çalışmasını izlemek güzeldi doğrusu… Aynı şekilde Ran Fan’ı o dramatik pozda, rüzgâra karşı düşünürken görmekte çok güzeldi…

Yine de keşke şarkıda görüntüler kadar güzel olsaydı… Ah, Let it All Out üzerine böyle bir şarkı gider miydi?

İzlediğim o güzel ve spoiler dolu açılışa dair bir sürü şey karalamıştım. Az önce blog’da yaşadığım bir problem nedeni ile hepsini kaybettim. Tekrardan aynı şeyleri yazmak istemediğim için kısaca özetliyorum. İdare edin arkadaşlar…

Mangayı okumayanlar spoiler kapacaklardır, uyarmadı demeyin;

Metal kolunu havaya doğru kaldırmış Ed’in metal yumruğunu yere vurmasının ardından öfke içerisinde ayağa fırlaması ve karşısındaki Humonculus’lara doğru delice koşması esnasında gözümüze takılan o enfes sahneyi kaç kişi fark etti?

Envy’nin önünde duran Humonculus’ları tanıdınız mı? İşte orada… Lin… Ya da Greed mi demeliyim? Karşınızda…

Lin’in bu değişimi önümüzdeki bölümde -henüz izlemedim ama 27. bölümün bir geriye dönüş, flashback bölümü olacağını okumuştum bir yerde- gerçekleşeceğini düşünüyorum. En fazla bir ya da iki bölüm içerisinde göreceğiz.

Açıkçası açılış parçası ile görüntülerin uyumunu çok beğendim. Yepyeni karakterler ve geçmişin izlerini açılışta bir arada gördük. Bolca Hughes ve Kimberly yer alıyordu. Elric kardeşler’in ve Humonculus’ların babalarını o karizmatik pozları ile izledik. Açıkçası çok güzel bir açılış ile daha karşılaştık…

Neyse, blog’umun azizliğine tekrar gelmeden; sizde izleyin efenim…

Glattony; Ed ve Lin’i tabiri caizse yuttuğunda sahte kapıdan geçerek bambaşka bir yere gelmişlerdi. Buradan hiçbir çıkışları olmadığını düşünmeye başladıklarında ise Envy’nin de Glattony tarafından yutulduğunu fark etmişler ve İshbal yıkımının sorumlusunun Envy olduğunu öğrendiklerinde ise onunla, kısa süre sonunda da Envy’nin gerçek formuyla büyük bir savaşa girişmişlerdi.

Böyle bir savaşta yenilmek kaçınılmazdı…

Edward, Envy’de hapsolan ruhları gördüğünde kendi karamsarlığında kaybolmuş bir şekilde yutulurken her şeyin farkına vardı ve Envy’i oradan onları çıkartabileceğine ikna ederek kendisini sindirmeden durdurdu.

Kısa süre sonra açıklamalar ile başbaşaydı ve açıklamaların ulaştığı son nokta; sahtesi ile içeriye girdik, gerçeğini açarak dışarıya çıkabiliriz şekildeydi.

Ve işte o anda… Kaderin onu ulaştırdığı o anda Edward Elric yıllar sonra ilk defa tekrardan kapıyı açtı. Envy’nin bedenine hapsettiği ruhların bir kısmını feda ederken Lin’in geçmesini sağladı ve kendisini kapının önünde, arkasında başka bir kapı ile dururken, iki kapı arasında bembeyaz olan o boşlukta buldu.

Ve işte o oradaydı…

Alponse’un zayıflamış, ruhsuz bedeni orada oturuyor, sanki kapının açılmasını ve ruhunun oradan gelmesini bekliyordu. Ama orada ruh yoktu… Orada Ed vardı. Kardeşi… Yinede… Beden onunla gelemezdi…

Kapı Ed’i içeriye çekerken Al sadece ona bakıyordu. Belki bir gün ruhu gelip onu alırdı; ama bu gün, o gün değildi…

İşte o müthiş anda Edward demir yumruğu ile üzerine kapanan kapıyı tekrar açtı ve bir gün onu geriye almak için geleceğine dair tekrardan yemin etti.

Anime ilk başladığında bazı kişiler animeyi hiç beğenmediğini defalarca dile getirmiş, onu lekelemeye çalışmışlardı. Şimdi ise animenin geldiği nokta bu… Mangayı bile filler’e dönüştüren, sindirmemize izin vermeden, sert yumruklar atarak, bizi duvardan duvara çarparak ilerleyen bir anime için çok söze gerek yok…

I’ve been meaning to post a blog for a while now on the rules of cosplay as far as I’ve figured any out. Ironically, I broke about half of them last night at the Ladies of Light Costume Ball, an annual cosplay event at my school. I went as a disturbingly attractive Edward Elric, much to the chagrin (and much to the amusement) of my peers.

At any rate, here are the rules, with my various violations noted.

1. Play Your Gender. Crossplay generally doesn’t work very well, unless you’re a girl playing a really pretty boy. As a rule, it’s best to avoid cross dressing entirely, because it often just looks wierd or is icky. violation: obvious. I’m a 20 year old woman dressed as a 15 year old boy.

2. Dress For The Weather. If it’s summer, don’t wear an overcoat and ski boots. If it’s winter, dressing in most female anime costumes is ill-advised. Unless you really like freezing your butt off or sweating like a gorram fountain. Violation: again, obvious. It’s September and sunny. I’m in a thick leather trench coat and gloves.

3. Dress For The Venue. There are costumes appropriate to a con that aren’t so appropriate to, say, a conservative Catholic school. . .or in front of your beloved’s parents. One of the reasons I’m not wearing my belly dancer costume to the St. Francis Festival next weekend. Violation: actually, I didn’t violate this one last night! (emphasis on last night. . .)

4. Don’t Make Your Costume at the Last Minute. No one really like a sloppy cosplayer. You really need to take the time to make your costume authentic. Otherwise you’re insulting the character, and the Otaku Police Force will execute you in the most brutal and demeaning fashion for this crime. Violation: I so made this costume the morning before the dance. That’s why half of it is duct tape. I’m waiting for the OPF to knock on my door any day now.

5. Make Sure You Get The Details Right. Are you a brunette playing a blonde? Better bleach that hair. Brown eyes playing green eyes? Color contacts, my friend. People will notice these things. Violation: I definitely didn’t change my hair color OR eye color to match Ed’s. And I didn’t even make automail. I’m a lazy cosplayer who likes her natural hair color too much. Fail.

6. Make Sure Your Weapons Don’t Look Too Real. You can get thrown out of most venues for violating this one. At minimum, they’ll confiscate your AK-47 or your broadsword. You’ll just have to deal with those annoying orange tips on your guns. Violation: I haven’t. . . yet.

7. Dress Your Body Type. Curvy girls should wear curvy girl clothes. Scrawny guys shouldn’t be trying to pull off Lara Croft. It’s a matter of practicality. You either have the body for a character or you don’t. Never force it. Violation: I’m pretty sure Ed’s a lot more flat-chested than I am. . . and shorter.

Well, there you go. 5/7 violations. Go me!

And here’s cosplay gone right: my friend and colleague as Light from Death Note. Apparently he doesn’t like it when I try to imply yaoi crossovers.

Okay, so I was going to put this out a long ass time ago, but I forgot and it got lost in my drafts. Now I found it. So, since there are so many characters from FMA that I think look awesome, here is a whole post devoted to them (Top 5…they are not in order, but I labeled which character I thought is the best:

Edward Elric

Metal arm/leg = sweet. I mean…..even “cosplayers” look good. Sweetness.

Izumi Curtis (Sensei)

Definitely one of the coolest female characters from FMA. I mean, the dreadlocks, or braids, or whatever are just awesome. And she has big boobs. However, one might look….err…..scary? in “cosplay”.

Scar

Like….I don’t have to explain this at all.

Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye

What, you didn’t think that I wouldn’t include Hawkeye after all of the things that I said about her, did you? Awesomeness. And yes, even a “cosplayer” can look good.

Okay, so those are all some pretty cool characters, but none of them beat my top character for looks. This character, sadly did not become very major, and also was killed off, which is probably the worst thing ever. Almost as bad as 9-11. All jokes in bad taste aside, here is the number one spot, and it isn’t “Ludacris”:

Number One: Martel

Personally, I thought Martel looked better in the first FMA series, when her tattoo was an awesome purple. I mean, true, green makes more sense, seeing as she’s spliced with a snake, but I don’t give a shit about that, I just care about looks. Let’s look at the facts:

• Awesome tattoo.
• Sweet hair style (short hair with one long strand…can’t go wrong.)
• Nice black wife beater thing, you know else wears a black halter top? Hawkeye.
• Check out that knife.
• Green fucking eyes.

Martel could’ve been the best character ever, but they killed her. Damn them.

Martel will kick your ass.

Others that didn’t make the list (that I decided wanted to be top 5) and why:

• Al: He would be in the top 10, but he missed the top 5.
• Colonel Mustang: He’s boring except for the gloves.
• Lieutenant Ross: I wish she was in the top 5….she’s probably number 6…just because of the short hair.
• Winry: Nothing special about her.
• Paninya: I don’t know how she didn’t make it, she has two legs of automail with like, guns in them, and she fits the black wife beater thing criteria. I guess I don’t like her hair.

What about Lust?

Fuck Lust.

Sadly for Lust, this is the only picture/screen shot where she actually looked cool. She’s pretty bland as a character. No color, no cool tats, not much going on besides those claws and her tits.

The Magical Drill that pierce’s the heaven!

Well, after a week of insane business, I have returned to the blog giddy and ready to take on the challenge of catching up with posts. Therefore, two posts today!

NMACon went incredibly well, I think. It was (believe it or not) my first anime convention, and I had a blast.

It was a little wierd to spend most of my time in Artist’s Aley for my very first convention, but it proved to be worthwile. My duct tape wallets and cell phone cases moved fast. As did my fanart. The duct tape totes, not so much. I’ll make them cheaper next time, I think. Still, I made a lot more money than I thought I would.

Probably the highlight of the convention was getting to meet Vic Mignogna. I went to two of his panels, both of which were spectacular. He’s a truly talented and amazing man. I admire him greatly (and I mean admire. No crushes here, people).

So, when I actually met him, I was wearing my Duct Tape Alchemist uniform. He was duly impressed with it. I was glad, as it was 90 degrees outside. You know, it’s all well and good to design a plastic outfit in winter but wearing it in summer isn’t quite as thrilling.

Anyways, I got a hug and autograph from him. He got a lovely piece of Ed fanart from me. I think I got the better end of that deal. . .

19. bölümde izleyebileceğiniz kapışmanın çizimleri o kadar iyiydi ki büyülenmemek elde değil. Seriyi takip ediyorsanız ve henüz bu bölümü izlemediyseniz hemen izlemenizi tavsiye ediyorum.

Roy’un ekibinin son iki bölümde yaşadığı büyük kapışma ve akabinde Risa’nın çığlıklar içerisinde Lust’a yağdırdığı kurşunlar; hepsi (all of them) Hughes içindi… Roy’un defalarca elindeki çakmağı ateşlemesi ve o karizmatik duruşu ile Lust’ı defalarca alevlere boğması; hepsi (all of them) Hughes içindi…

Rose’un üzerine yıkılan, onu ailesinden ayıran adice planın Humonculus’lardan alınan intikamıydı tüm bunlar…

Albay Roy Mustang’ın elini Lust’ın göğsüne sokup felsefe taşını aldığı sahne kesinlikle muazzamdı ve Lust’ın önce parçalara ayrılması, ardından tam öldü sanıldığında tekrardan felsefe taşı ile ortaya çıkarak kahkahalar atması da mükemmeldi. Yine de kurtulamadı.

Lust’ın ölümü Glattony’i yaslara boğacak, intikam arzusu içinde cayır cayır yakacak olsa da ölmek bilmeyen Humonculus’lardan biri eksildi… Buna değer…

Sonraki bölümde büyük karşılaşma var. Ed ve babası… Her şeyin başlamasına neden olan gülümsemenin sahibinin, Ed ve Al’ın annesinin mezarı başındalar… Ed ve onun sırlarla dolu olan babası…

Essentially Pad Thai on a college budget, I decided to name this dish after Edward Elric from FullMetal Alchemist because it contains a lot of tiny shrimp. Heh heh heh.

Ingredients:

2 Packages Rice Noodles

2 cans Tiny shrimp, drained

1 oz bottle duck sauce

Soy sauce, to taste

Garlic, to taste

Ginger, to taste

1 can baby corn, drained

1/2 can water chestnuts, drained

2 cans bean sprouts, drained

FOR THE MEAT

1 package stew pork, thawed

1/2 cup lemon juice

1 tblspn soy sauce

1 tblspn garlic powder

2 tblspns ginger

Dash red pepper

Dash cinnamon

Directions:

Marinate meat for three hours in fridge.

Cook in a skillet until browned. Set aside.

Make rice noodles according to directions.

Add all ingredients except the shrimp.

Add shrimp right before serving.

I WATCHED IT! Ok, this is me being crazy after I have finally caught up with the week’s worth of anime…. new episodes came up, and You can imagine my esctasy when I saw that there were FOUR in all!

OK, I know I mentioned that Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA) is one of the animes up in the “definitely good” category… but there are still people who comments that Brotherhood (sequel to FMA) is not as good as it ought to be, considering how they tried to squeeze and summarise everything. For someone like me, who watched snips and snapshots of the anime, it is great! All I can say is that, I saw the starting and the ending of the anime and some of the in betweens, and I know that I was terrified by it.

Brotherhood, in fact, tone down a lot on the scariness of the first season, and summarises it. The fault, therefore lies in the summarise part. Too summaried, so much so that the characters’ feelings and emotions and sometimes even the plot has not been allowed to be properly built-up and developed. If you were to compare this, FMA season 1 is definitely better. But since there are some pretty great plots as well, I guess it is a matter of give and take.

And, this week’s plot is FABULOUS! I am going to focus on the billiance of Mustang, as the title suggests. We all know that Mustang is planning things. There are weird happenings here and there from his surroundings.

1. Hawkeye’s sudden request for vacation. Hawkeye is steady, calm, fair. She is one who can hold her own in the military, no matter what. And she is determined to protect and assist Mustang. Her sudden decision to take leave over Ross’s incident is TOO MUCH OF A INSANITY.
2. Mustang is normally at the ‘backstage’ of matters. When does he get involved personally, especially when there is no obvious benefits?
3. Why would someone like Mustang suddenly allow/request Barry the Butcher, a mad-case whom he had been kept under survilence and locked, to go out to do a  prison break?
4. Instead of capturing Ross when he met her, as he is fully capable of, he burnt her down to a state so bad, she cannot be recognised at all.
5. Even those who helped him and admire his ways look down at his actions.
6. Those phone calls to Elizabeth.

 
So here is the explanation! *SPOILER WARNING IS RAISED*

Roy the AMAZING man has it all planned. After he found out that his suspicions were right, and that Ross is innocent, he sent his man to get ready to perform a dummy for burnt corpse. He then ask Barry the mad case to set Ross free and send her on the way to him. On the way, out of his own interest, Barry got Ling, the man from Xing, out as well. Then, the ‘burn Ross down’ scene is completed by Mustang, while the actual Ross was sent off into a passage with Havoc’s help (he is another guy on leave).

In the mean time, Hawkeye has gone on “leave” to actually guard Barry’s holding-area, and Roy’s constant phone calls to ‘Elizabeth’ is to check things up with Hawkeye. Furthermore, Havoc’s alias is “Jacqualine”, and his role is to help capture the one who will try to kill Barry, for his actions.

In the mean time, Ling sent his man servant to get Ross out of the country to Xing, to ensure her safety, and Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward, is also sent away after Ross made her escape. He is sent away along with Armstrong, so that the obstacles are cleared for the final stage where they shall lure out the person who will attempt to kill Barry. Why they are sent away? COs they may cause more distanbances than help.

Now, this is an amazing plan, except that there are unaccountable factors embedded in it. For example, Gluttony. I am sure that Mustang do know about them.. considering what he knows, and what Edward told him… also, Hughes’s incident should give enough warning… So why did Mustang not thought about factors like this and…. IS Hawkeye and the others’ life in danger?

I mean, we saw the red eyes from the transmitter, and it is not the same pair of eyes that attacked Hawkeye. And we do know that is Gluttony that attacked Hawkeye.

Also left unanswered is the cliffhanger of Hawkeye’s imminent doom. Will she survive or will she not? Now, that is what I want to know. On the other hand, before the episode closes, we managed to know about Winry’s parents… and their sad death. Somehow, death in FMA means sadness… all the deaths are related to something sad. I mean, deaths are sad naturally, but not AS sad as FMA’s are…. they are not natural at all.

In the end, the Ishbals tried to use Edward as a bait for the State Alchemist. Their reasoning is that the death of a child is what that caused the war to rage previously. So this time, no one knows if a child can get the Alchemists to be angry as well. But luckily for them (cos Edward is a hell of a fighter and an alchemist), they were stopped in time, by that old woman who expressed gratitude to the alchemists who save their lives, Winry’s parents. She left him with a task, “If you were to be able to be at their graves, please tell them, this message from us, gratitude …. and an apology.”

Gratitude for saving their lives. Apology for her incapabilities to save their life from THAT MAN that they saved.
