Eu sou fã de Gossip Girl, acho que já deu pra perceber nos meus posts, e mais do que isso… eu sou fã da Blair. Acho lindo o estilo clássico, imponente dela. Gosto tanto, que resisti muito pra começar a ver Skins. Mesmo gostando do trailler, não queria trair GG. Eis que duas semanas depois, já vi as três temporadas e fiquei pesquisando sobre Effy Stonem, que começa como personagem secundário, mas na terceira temporada é essencial. E sim, o estilo dela é incrível.

É um rocker estratégicamente desleixado, bagunçado e com muito dourado. É muito mais próximo do que eu usaria, e uso. E demonstra toda a força da personagem…

Agora eu fico aqui, orfã. Já que nem a terceira temporada de GG, nem a quarta de Skins, estão passando…

Monday nights are going to be awesome….thankyouuuu SBS

Skins is a BAFTA award winning show centered around nine teenagers growing up in Bristol, England.

The first two series (AKA seasons) centered around a separate group of teenagers, with only one minor character, the younger sister of series 1&2 character Tony Stonem, carrying on in series 3.

Skins may at times be totally over the top, it still manages to realistically cover issues such as drug use, immigration, gay teens, alcoholism, sex, mental illness, and eating disorders.

This is one of my favorite shows on television, and while somewhat changed for BBC (compared to it’s original un-censored, un-subtitled airing on E4 in the UK) its still worth watching to tide yourself over until Series 4 premieres next year.

Skins series 3 premiers tonight at 9pm/8pm central on BBC America.

It being summer and all, I’ve relinquished my membership to the I-only-wear-black club. I’ve stopped wearing my chains, black tights and combat boots and exchanged them for free flowing skirts, aviator sunglasses, and jean cutoffs. But Alas, oh how I miss my edgier side! I want to wear black again! My addiction to black stemmed from one person in particular, Effy Stonem (from Skins). JIM zendt opnieuw het eerste seizoen van de Britse cult tienerreeks Skins uit. Seizoen 1 is veruit het vrolijkste en leukste om te zien. Zo speelt Mitch Hewer de rol van homopersonage Maxxie Oliver. Aansluitend krijg je seizoen 2 te zien.

With series 3 of Skins now being shown on Channel 4 serious style envy was once again upon me. I’m sure I didn’t look as cool as the Skins gang when I was 16! Each character has their own unique style, from Pandora’s sweet but odd look to Naomi’s mismatched and slightly androgynous chic. But it’s the wardrobe of Effy Stonem that I admire the most.

Her style can only be described as ‘enviously cool’, rocking the Gothic/grungy look whilst looking sexy and cool at the same time. And just like her on-screen character actress Kaya Scodelario also has some serious style.

Here are some pictures to show why I’m developing a serious style crush on the Skins star…

Just recently the beautiful 17-year-old was spotted on the front row of Sienna and Savannah Miller’s Twenty8Twelve catwalk show wearing a Twenty8Twelve floral dress. Though just like her on-screen character she kept it tough by teaming up her pretty dress with a black leather jacket.

The actress-slash-model has also been papped having lunch with fellow actress and rising fashion icon Emma Watson (I wonder if they were swapping fashion tips?). For her lunch date with Emma she kept it simple by wearing a black vest top and cardigan, blue denim skinny jeans and some cute lace-up shoe boots.

Last weekend whilst watching T4 on the Beach my style crush on Kaya was sealed (sorry Alexa!) after seeing her dressed in this super cute but cool outfit; wearing a Topshop denim playsuit and blazer with a gold anchor necklace (which she also wore to the Tormented film premiere).

“Everyone“

I never saw series 1, and thought series 2, although entertaining, was riven with flaws. The same mistakes are not repeated here, at least not in this fun, silly, exciting and well written season opener. The original cast may now be gone, but they’ve been replaced by much better, more confident actors. It may be sad that Maxxie and Tony are gone, but Tony’s sister Effy remains, and she’s the centre of everyone’s attention. JJ, Ollie and the beautiful Freddie (Luke Pasqualino, above) all want her. It isn’t the only triangle in play. We have twins, faux lesbians, and indeed Pandora from series 2, still worshipping Effy from afar. Getting the theme of this series?

The actors aren’t just better, the script is more assured too. It’s funnier (Ardal O’Hanlon truly rocks), sharper and more consistent as well. It isn’t afraid to be laugh out loud funny, but these characters are at the same time much more real than the previous cast. And the new cast has been very well thought out. Kaya Scodelario is as brilliant as she was last year as Effy, and the chemistry she has with Jack O’Connell (Cook) and Pasqualino is electric. Where last series was punctuated by excessive caution and an uncertainty about who its audience was, they’re pretty sure here who’s watching. Even the sexual content is amusing (and in one instance delightful), and I couldn’t be more intrigued about where this is going.

“Everyone“

It’s A-Level results day; it’s also the day of Chris’ funeral, and his Dad (Mark Heap) has banned the gang from attending. As they all work through their individual struggles, Tony, now fully recovered, decides to steal Chris’ coffin to give him the send off he deserves. But Jal won’t have it, and after a superb and hilariously shot car chase through Bristol, the body gets returned and the issues the cast have had on hold for weeks finally break out with the opening up of their exam results.

It’s then time to say goodbye to Chris for real, as diverging futures beckon – Cassie is still in New York, Maxxie and James are about to move in together, Anwar’s failed his A-Levels and Tony & Michelle’s final breakup looms as they head to different universities. Is Anwar cursed to live a life in nowheresville with the psycho Sketch? Will Sid’s and Tony’s friendship really resume? Will Sid and Cassie find each other again?

A series which never really knew what it was doing – was it a teen drama, a soap opera or something else? The darkness which permeated series 2 took away the lighter touch which series 1 was known for, and whilst there were moments of good acting and good scripting, the series as a whole was painfully inconsistent. Episode 10 falls into the same trap – was this all about Chris & Jal, Michelle & Tony, the jarring intrusion of Sketch into the group or the back and forth of Sid’s and Cassie’s relationship? In the confusion Maxxie’s story got inexcusably (considering how popular Mitch Hewer is) ignored, the impact of Sketch’s behaviour got lost and humour was noticeably lacking, although Mark Heap’s typically wise-yet-insane turn was very successful this week and long overdue.

It’s a shame that series 3 will headline only Tony’s sister Effy – a real shame. What will become of Maxxie, James and Anwar in London? Does Sid turn that extra centimetre? Are Tony and Michelle destined to be together? Will Sketch keep her mother imprisoned forever? This series set up more questions than it answered. But it did succeed in setting up new, mainstream young, British talent at the forefront of popular culture – Mitch Hewer’s star is in the ascendant without question, Hannah Murray is already heading to the West End and Nic Hoult has proven that About A Boy wasn’t an accident. It’ll be interesting to see what the cast does next.
