Ubuntu Linux version 7.10 has been released for free download by Canonical. – Mera wala Ubuntu

Ubuntu Linux version 7.10 has been released for free download by Canonical. – Mera wala Ubuntu Linux
Ubuntu Download page – http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Have you downloaded your copy and installed it ? Well, it seems thousands of students in Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kathmandu, Kolkata and Allahabad who do not have good Internet connections are requesting their friends to download Kubuntu on a 700 MB CD and just make copies for FREE distribution.
Students are finally understanding that their teachers know less about software expertise and innovation than their old fashioned teachers who still have not even heard about Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
1. So is Ubuntu for everyone ? Yes of course – it is for STUDENTS, TEACHERS, PROFESSORS, SMALL BUSINESS, PROPRIETORS, BIG BUSINESS as well as Government users who want the latest, greatest FREE Open Source software.
Anyone in Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad Dehradoon, Jhansi, Bhopal, Kathmandu, Darjeeling, Varanasi, Benares, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Noida, Gurgaon, schools who needs an excellent operating system with loads of free and wonderful educational software can contact us at oskanpur@gmail.com
2. Is Ubuntu really free ? – Yes, yes yes
3. Is it really world class ? – Yes, Yes, Yes
4. Is it difficult to install ? – No, No, No
5. Is it difficult to learn ? – No, No, No
6. Should I believe someone who says Ubuntu is not for me ? – Please dont without trying it out yourself for one week. Yes one week. I’m loving it.
7. Where to download from and burn the ISO image on CD if I cant get my hands on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon ? – Simple – http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
8. What if any problems ? – Just email oskanpur@gmail.com
9. Some people say Ubuntu Linux is not for business, schools and government ? – Well do you HAVE to believe them AFTER you install Ubuntu on your assembled / Acer, Wipro, Zenith, IBM, Lenovo, Dell Laptop, Desktop or Server computer ?

10. Some people say that 95% users use ANOTHER Operating system and I will not get any support on Ubuntu. Well that was YESTERDAY. Now talk about TODAY. Linux is the way to go if you want smart children rather than dumb children who can only play computer games and do data entry.

11. What if I want to use word documents, spreadsheets and presentations ? Yes this is the best part. Of course everyone wants to use these. And all these softwares are available in Ubuntu – courtesy of SUN Microsystems for FREE. Just spend ONE day and you will become familiar with everything !!

12. Just ask your computer vendor / dealer if he is going to supply you with free CD of Ubuntu / Kubuntu. He should be able to arrange one in one hour flat. https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Primary and secondary school Indian teachers and students in Kanpur Lucknow -

Those who have been using Linux on their desktop, laptops and servers for some time now will be aware that it is now only 14 days left for the next version of the best and greatest Ubuntu and Kubuntu to be launched. We just cant wait for the greatest Linux desktop ever to hit the Indian markets especially for users in Kanpur and Lucknow. – Launched on 18 Octobber 2007.

To celebrate the launch of the Ubuntu and Kubuntu – Gutsy Gibbon Version 7.10 – we are organizing a snacks and soft drinks party for bright school children in Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Agra, Gorakhpur and Varanasi to get together and share Linux tips with other school children. We all know that the school children in Kanpur and Lucknow know more about Linux Ubuntu / Kubuntu than their computer science teachers and instructors who have never even heard of Ubuntu.

We are also organizing a get together for adults interested in computer basics and some samosas – come and join us in end of October. We will be distributing free CD of Ubuntu and Kubuntu – and the first 100 laptops will also qualify for a free learn and install Ubuntu and Kubuntu training session.

Please note all school children from English as well as Hindi medium schools in Kanpur and Lucknow are invited – Methodist, St. Mary, Christ Church, Central schools, Jaipuria, delhi Public school, DPS children who want to learn to play with Linux and learn free, open and non proprietory softwares are all welcome.

Feel free to ask questions – the top three best questions about if Linux is Best for Indian school students will receive designer UBUNTU T-shirts – so polish up your debating skills on Linux versus whatever …

Contact Email : oskanpur@gmail.com

Check out the Ubuntu website and download your free Ubuntu from the nearest server. Please note that despite all the talk of Indian IT – there is still NO Indian server providing free downloads of Ubuntu and Linux. That is a pity when you consider how many IT professionals the IIM IIT and IIIT produce each year.

Ubuntu download page – http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Hopefully soon some Indian IT science and technology bureaucrat will wake up from his sleep and offer free webservers for downloading Ubuntu from an Indian server for Indian children who want to learn Linux. Who knows what the S&T bureaucrats are planning once they get time off from teaching old and outdated stuff to Indian children ?

Yes Indian children and students will soon know more about world class software and innovation than their politicians, teachers, instructors, parents and professors. I’m loving it baby.

Yes, I never thought that this would really happen. That me and my children will be working on a Neh

Yes, I never thought that this would really happen. That me and my children will be working on a Nehru Place assembled AMD computer with 80 GB SATA hard disk machine loaded with Ubuntu Linux and not regretting the day I took this decision to go for free and legal software.

My emails are all sorted out, my CD’s are working,I am not getting any funny messages regarding audio and video files, my Yahoo chat and Internet are all going smoothly. For my children, who managed to adapt to this Ubuntu switch on the desktop PC, there have been some issues with free Java games, but they are beginning to find their own exciting way into the road to Linux much faster than a forty year old like me.

I must say I am absolutely delighted with the whole concept of free software and using the massive storage capacity of the good guys like Google and Yahoo.

My kids have also shown me how I can use my gmail account to create my own portal homepage and make use of free online portals even for my small business needs. Yes, I think one week now into the switchover from Windows to Ubuntu and I will never again be going back to proprietory and closed software. It is really amazing what wonders Canonical and Dell marketing push can do to the reputation and satisfaction ratings of the PC user thinking of switching to Linux Ubuntu – who falls in the category of 80% . I really wonder why people have not understood the great market potential of supporting users who are switching to Ubuntu. Canonical guys really need to be praised for the way they have turned around the perception of user friendliness of Ubuntu.

I hear that students in Indian colleges are now offering free Ubuntu installs to communities of users who are wondering about where to get help regarding moving to stable desktop and laptop operating system. Just bring in your PC and take it back with a solid Ubuntu install. In the process they are beginning to make friends with a whole lot of people they would have never come to know, certainly not the stiff tie and coat call center types who are wizards in confusing you about PC and Internet and closed software.

Free software and Ubuntu installs will surely begin to take off with the massive assembling community in India as well. Powerful AMD machines, graphics cards, SATA hard disks, digital cams, preloaded with powerful 64 bit Ubuntu or Kubuntu and guess what – Indian IT scene will be an entirely different scene within a year.

Check out the Ubuntu website or ask them to mail you a free Ubuntu CD – http://www.ubuntu.com

The really tough part about teaching Ubuntu to others is that one oneself needs to learn a little bit of Linux and we know how old habits die hard. Learn one, teach one. Ubuntu is just whizzing on my computer.

As an Indian user I was looking for fantastic software that would be reliable and which I could teac

As an Indian user I was looking for fantastic software that would be reliable and which I could teach to my children if they were not to become just call center operators – and guess what, I was delighted to see the new Ubuntu based on Debian Linux – that even a PC and laptop computer manufacturer like Dell has decided to support and offer as a popular choice to its customers.
Who does not want exciting software that does not bind them into a corner and that their children can learn from without becoming zombies ?

Initially I was shit scared and thought that maybe my computer would explode or everything will come to a grinding halt. So I tentatively gave myself a target of 15 days to decide whether to switch from Windows operating system to Ubuntu.

Fortunately I was able to decide with confidence in a mere four days to take this important political step. Why do I call it a political decision ? Well because ultimately the choice between supporting a monopoly or freedom is afterall a political decision.

I recently took the all important plunge and upgraded from restrictive Windows operating system to Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn and even though I was initially shit scared, whether my computer would just die or how I would survive with my emails, Internet and computing needs in a world without Windows the moment I had a CD with Ubuntu in my hands and with much hesitation installed it on my AMD computer, I knew that nothing would persuade me to go back to a world in which people write software and hide it so that no one can understand what choices are being made for them. No adult likes to be force fed.

The Ubuntu interface and approach is fantastic and has me drooling. What I like about the Ubuntu philosophy is that I can keep learning computing and software without some one giving me orders regarding what formats I should use for music and videos and on what to do and what not to do. Ubuntu is about freedom and respect – for users and developers.

To install Ubuntu, one does not need to change one’s computer, hard disk, monitor or Internet provider – just one’s mindset. And yes, my computer did not come crashing down and now I feel both I and my children can start learning proper software once again and being functional in a non Windows world.

Ubuntu philosophy -

1. Software should be available free of charge

2. Software tools should be usable by people in their local language

3. People should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they need.
Getting Help with Ubuntu : www.ubuntu.com

1. Guides and Documentation – If Ubuntu is already installed on your computer, the Ubuntu help is also installed

2. Official Ubuntu documentation website once you are connected to Internet – no need to tear your hair just read through fantastic Ubuntu guides once you decide to switch to Ubuntu

3. Forums and Community contributed documentation
You can also obtain commercial support. from Canonical in case you are really hooked on support. I for one kept the Canonical phone numbers handy but once I gave myself 15 days before deciding to switch, I never had to call them.
Participate in Ubuntu:

The Ubuntu community is made up of people with multiple interests. It helps to know what you are.

Are you just the usual computer user in an office or home environment who would like to use emails, browse Internet and compose some documents, load files, images, videos and be able to chat with friends across the world ?

Are you a documentation writer who can help in teaching others about Ubuntu ?

Are you a software developer or a graphic artist looking to learn new skills or polish up old skills ?

To find out how to participate, visit Ubuntu’s community participation page !
