Hunting Eichmann, by Neal Bascomb, is quite the intriguing thriller, and a non-fictional work that is brilliantly narrated.

In recounting the historical facts that led up to the capture of Eichmann, Bascomb left no detail or event untouched. His research is more than extremely thorough, and through his own travels to unearth anything and everything regarding the capture, including documents, interviews, articles, archives, etc., he has fashioned a narration that reads like a spy novel.

In fact, Hunting Eichmann is infused with spy material that will leave you amazed and astounded. From CIA records to Mossad agents, from worldwide indiffference to the Nazi underground in Argentina, to the El Al flight, the trial, the sentence and execution, and so much more, the historical information is incredible. I was totally engrossed in the book from page one. A thriller it is in every aspect.

How Eichmann was tracked, and how the plan to capture him was plotted is an amazing feat, and Bascomb reveals it all to the reader, without mincing words or leaving out clues. The fortitude, energy and extreme planning that it took to finally get Eichmann in Israeli hands, is basically the same fortitude, energy and planning used by Bascomb to convey the entire story to the reader.

There were many who thought it would never happen, and understandably so. There were the skeptics, those who thought that the issues should just die out, but there were those who felt that there needed to be justice, and justice there was. Bascomb demonstrates the journey to justice with intense clarity, through his brilliant writing and unending research.

Bascomb has done a great service in authoring Hunting Eichmann. He has brought to the forefront the incredible circumstances that led to Eichmann’s capture. Not only that, he has done it with extreme illumination through the vivid images he presents us. a href=”http://www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com/catalog/titledetail.cfm?titleNumber=694153″>Hunting Eichmann is invaluable as an educational and historical documentation of Eichmann’s capture and execution. Do porwania z Argentyny przez izraelski wywiad głównego sprawcy holokaustu, Adolfa Eichmanna, przyczyniła się dziewczyna, która odkryła, że ojciec jej chłopaka to ścigany hitlerowski zbrodniarz. Jej ojciec, emigrant z III Rzeszy, powiadomił o tym prokuratora z Niemiec, który potajemnie dał znać Izraelowi.

Takie i inne szczegóły poszukiwań i głośnego uprowadzenia esesmana w 1960 r. opisuje amerykański historyk i dziennikarz Neal Bascomb w książce “Wytropić Eichmanna”. Publikacja – której podtytuł brzmi “Pościg za największym zbrodniarzem w historii” – ukaże się w listopadzie w wydawnictwie Znak.

SS-obersturmbannfuehrer Eichmann jako szef wydziału żydowskiego w Głównym Urzędzie Bezpieczeństwa Rzeszy (RSHA) odpowiadał za realizację “ostatecznego rozwiązania” – koncentrację Żydów i ich wysyłkę do niemieckich obozów zagłady w okupowanej Polsce. Sam przechwalał się, że ma na sumieniu 6 mln Żydów. Bascomb podkreśla, że ten “morderca zza biurka” wyolbrzymiał jednak swoją rolę w elitach III Rzeszy, bo – jak sam mówił – “wykonywał tylko rozkazy”.

Choć w 1945 r. Eichmann przebywał w amerykańskich obozach jenieckich, nie odkryto jego prawdziwej tożsamości, co – zdaniem autora – “świadczy o zbyt małej liczbie i nadmiernym obciążeniu śledczych tropiących zbrodnie wojenne”. “Amerykańska agencja szpiegowska była zainteresowana aresztowaniem oficerów SS, choć raczej dla celów kontrwywiadowczych niż ze względu na ich zbrodnie” – pisze Bascomb. Dowodzi, że także młode państwo Izrael nie ścigało aktywnie zbrodniarzy z SS; w latach 50. w Mossadzie zajmowała się tym jedna osoba. “Ocaleni z Holokaustu musieli przecież budować państwo, a społeczeństwo nie było wtedy zainteresowane konfrontacją ze zbrodniami Hitlera” – stwierdza autor.

Opisuje on przypadek, który pozwolił ustalić, że Eichmann żyje pod fałszywym nazwiskiem w Argentynie. Uciekł on tam z Niemiec w 1950 r. dzięki siatce dawnych nazistów, wspieranych przez niektórych księży.

W 1956 r. mieszkająca pod Buenos Aires Sylvia Hermann, córka uchodźcy z III Rzeszy, poznała młodego Niemca, Nicka Eichmanna. Mówił on jej ojcu Lotharowi Hermannowi, że byłoby lepiej, gdyby eksterminacja Żydów udała się i chwalił się, że jego ojciec “dobrze służył swemu krajowi”. Lothar – który opuścił Niemcy jako pół-Żyd i socjalista – nabrał podejrzeń, czy nie chodzi o opisywanego w gazetach zbrodniarza i napisał o tym prokuratorowi generalnemu landu Hesja, Fritzowi Bauerowi. Ścigał on wtedy nazistów, choć bez skutku, bo przeciwstawiały się temu elity odrodzonych Niemiec, wśród których – jak podkreśla autor – było wielu hitlerowców.

Bauer wysłał Hermannom zdjęcie i rysopis esesmana. Sylvia zdobyła adres Nicka i – jak zaznacza Bascomb – ryzykując życiem poszła do skromnego domku Eichmanna. Widząc starszego mężczyznę, spytała: “Pan Eichmann, ojciec Nicka?”, “Jestem jego wujem” – padła ostra odpowiedź, choć jej chłopak zwracał się do niego: “Tato”. Było jasne, kim jest – o czym Hermann napisał Bauerowi. Ten wiedział, że nie może wiele zrobić wobec niechęci kanclerza Konrada Adenauera do – zdaniem autora – “zbyt głębokiego wnikania w przeszłość”, a obawiał się ucieczki Eichmanna po nagłośnieniu sprawy. Dlatego, ryzykując oskarżenie o zdradę, potajemnie powiadomił o wszystkim przedstawiciela Izraela w Niemczech.

Bascomb podkreśla początkową nieufność Izraela. Nie dowierzano, by dygnitarz III Rzeszy, o którym sądzono, że zagrabił majątki swych ofiar, żył tak ubogo. Sądzono, że to kolejny fałszywy trop. Ponadto priorytetem wywiadu były zagrożenia ze strony państw arabskich. Dopiero po naleganiach Bauera władze Izraela zaczęły działać. Wobec proniemieckich sympatii Argentyny i braku szans na ekstradycję, podjęto decyzję o porwaniu esesmana i złamaniu prawa argentyńskiego – by na oczach świata osądzić Eichmanna w Izraelu.

Autor szczegółowo odtwarza akcję agentów Mossadu i Szin Bet. Do końca nie mieli oni stuprocentowej pewności, że tropią właściwą osobę – nawet gdy przy odgłosach burzy w ciemnej uliczce pod Buenos Aires obezwładnili “Ricardo Klementa”, robotnika zakładów Mercedesa – bo taka była nowa tożsamość hitlerowca. Eichmann – domyślając się, kto go porwał – wydusił w aucie: “Pogodziłem się już z moim losem”, a wkrótce potem podał prawdziwe nazwisko. Bascomb pisze, że agenci, którzy stracili bliskich podczas holokaustu, musieli wtedy tłumić emocje, “by nie zaatakować więźnia”, a kilkudniowy pobyt w kryjówce z hitlerowcem “wyrządził spustoszenia w ich duszach”.

Ostatnim etapem akcji było wprowadzenie odurzonego narkotykiem Eichmanna na pokład izraelskiego samolotu. Dla zmylenia służb lotniska, przebrano go za pilota izraelskich linii El Al. Agenci liczyli się nawet z odlotem bez zgody władz lotniska, ryzykując pościg argentyńskich myśliwców. Kontroli lotów podano fałszywą trasę lotu – do Recife w Brazylii, podczas gdy w istocie samolot El Al poleciał od razu za Atlantyk.

Proces Eichmanna zwrócił uwagę świata na zagładę Żydów. Wykazał też “banalność zła”, bo – jak napisała autorka głośnej książki o nim, Hannah Arendt – nie był zwyrodniałym sadystą, lecz niezdolnym do refleksji biurokratą. Eichmanna – jedyną osobę skazaną w Izraelu na śmierć – powieszono w 1962 r. Jego ciało spalono w obecności byłego więźnia Auschwitz, a prochy wyrzucono do morza.

Izrael po latach nagrodził Hermanna. Jego córka mieszka dziś w USA. Bauer aż do śmierci w 1968 r. ścigał nazistów; oskarżał m.in. esesmanów z Auschwitz.

Regular readers know that we’re not afraid of the big questions, and perhaps one of the biggest of them all is: how can there be genocide? Genocides, and especially the holocaust, seem to be impossible to understand. They leave even the most astute thinkers perplexed. What is it that makes ordinary people, people who have never before engaged in violence or crime, turn on their neighbors and even friends in the most extreme way, without any apparent rational reason or provocation?

Hannah Arendt has written a lot about this, and she made the following observation while watching the trial of Eichmann in Jerusalem:

Eichmann committed his crimes under circumstances that make it well-nigh impossible for him to know or to feel that he is doing wrong. (source)

Under extreme circumstances people seem to lose their “moral compass”. They are

swept away unthinkingly by what everybody else does and believes in. (source)

This is what Heidegger called the “dictatorship of the They“: society, the general cultures or mores and the common practices force individuals to act in certain ways and undermine their independent judgment.

It is indeed difficult to tell right from wrong, independently, if almost everyone around you tells you that wrong is right. People’s sense of morality – or moral compass – is deeply influenced by the society they live in and grow up in. If you live in a racist society, chances are high you end up being a racist.

When this “dictatorship of the They” is purposefully cultivated by political elites, propaganda, indoctrination etc, and when, furthermore, it is combined with thoughtlessness or the willingness to give up on thinking – as was the case of Eichmann – then evil and genocide are just a small step away. Thinking, according to Arendt, makes it hard to engage in evil. Thinking is the silent dialogue with yourself. Since people generally want to be in harmony with themselves, it’s better to be the victim of an injustice than the perpetrator (in the words of Socrates), because the perpetrator has to live with the criminal. In this way, a conscience is a byproduct of thinking (Arendt), and the absence of thinking leads to immorality.

However, this explanation of evil, immorality and genocide is unsatisfactory, because it abandons moral responsibility and the possibility of moral and legal judgment. Arendt was accutely aware of this. If we again take the case of Eichmann, how can we possibly judge and convict him if his actions were the result of social pressure and his inability to think? Civilized legal systems as well as moral systems understand that the intent to do wrong and freedom of choice are necessary prerequisites for the commission of a crime.  No responsibility without mens rea: “actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea”, ”the act does not make a person guilty unless the mind be also guilty”.

It’s good to understand how morality is influenced by circumstances and culture, and how crime can result from education, society and thoughtlessness, but that’s not the whole picture. People aren’t just products of their environment. They can think and choose, except perhaps under the most extreme circumstances (such as torture). And I don’t think Eichmann lived in such extreme circumstances. This element of moral freedom is shown by the fact that evil people can arise from the best of circumstances.

A simple message was uttered by Tony Blair this year in the staggers, we must do God. There is an element to which this is already true, and so embedded it is, that to suggest doing is pointless. But is how Blair meant it so true?

For Blair, doing God is more about globalisation than it is theology. The marketplace, a global landscape, must promote and understand different religious pratices and peculiarities, so as not to jeopardise trading with countries where religion and economics are not separated.

When we see it this way, Blair, in saying do God, did not actually mean do God in any way shape or form. He meant be sensitive to faith in order to avoid getting your fingers burnt in the economy.

But doing God generally is dificult not to do, though many have tried. John Gray for example, in his great book Black Mass argues that the bouts of militant atheism and secularism are features of the western christian tradition. Calvinism in the sixteenth century actually foregrounded the view that while theology was ‘an echo of the biblical text‘ it was not, stricto sensu, so much a commentary of the text, but an interpretive framework by which the text may be understood. As such, Calvin saw the stories of the creation and the fall as simple renditions, certainly not to be taken literally, so rather than being an obstacle to science, he was actually an obstacle to biblical literalism.

Todays new atheists tend to draw their guns at biblical literalists, though suggest that through reason all believers can be dismantled. It’s hardly observant of fact that they produce a caricature of people of faith, then attempt only to critique one portion of the religious body. Calvin didn’t see himself as part of the traditional institution, was a radical as such, and his theology is now widely regarded as a most popular strand of christianity. In fact, according to Alister McGrath, a biographer of Calvin, if Calvin’s ideas were even more popular, the structure of the religion vs. science debate would take a far different form, since for Calvin the story of creation was an illustration rather than a literal truth, room is apparent for evolution science, seen of late as the sole domain of post-religious enlightenment.

John Gray, this time in his book Straw Dogs, noted that strains of thought seen to be of the legacy of the enlightenment – the liberal philosophers for example, A.C. Grayling – tend to be progressive, and therefore, for Gray, doomed for failure since the realm of progressivism, either borrows heavily from preceding philosophies, rendering it non-progressive, or else nihilistic and destined for bankruptcy. It was because of this that Gray earned himself the reputation as a pessimist, which may be evidently true, but it cannot be forgotten his indebtedness to Isiaah Berlin and elements of Eastern philosophy – he’s not simply pessimistic, but partly unrecognisable by traditional western standards.

The so-called secular, progressive projects, according to Gray, have their own eschatology and are therefore either forever inseperable with demythologised christianity, or else inseperable to failed projects such as Nazism or Communism, which for Gray, have a religious, totemistic quality about them anyway.

This is something that atheists like A.C. Grayling would agree on, that, in his words, “Nazism and Stalinism … emulate … religions in being monolithic ideologies demanding absolute subserviance to a supposed ideal”. But this is true only insofar as religion is idolatry. Stalin of course was an atheist, Hitler in the thirties disuaded the religious from appealing to his ideology until he realised the amount of Catholic money he could get his hands on, and Eichmann even up until his death rejected the presence of a priest visit to his cell for his anti-religious sentiments were so strong.

There is the notion that Calvin works in both the Blair reference to God (Calvin and Calvinism was a product of Genevan society, an early hub of capitalism and profit) and also the way in which Gray understands it, that the secular projects of today are simply rejuvenated versions of the christian legacy. Whatever the case, and whatever your beliefs, God is still done today, both demythologised and capitalised, to change the world one must change God in these forms, not get rid of God.

Letter from the Zionist terrorist and Israeli Idol Abraham [Avrum/Avraham] Stern to Nazi authorities.

Nazi-Zionist connections are of course not surprising, since both of these racist movements  are political expressions of the Romantic belief in the salvific nature of Blut und Boden (Blood and Soil), and of course the Nazis did so much to support and train German Zionists for their invasion of Palestine. Therefore, the term “Zionazi” may be a redundancy (Zionism and National Socialism being, in effect, synonymous. In fact, Zionism is both the forerunner of and inspiration for Nazism. It may be thought of as a form of Übernazism, since it has outlived Nazism, and even brought a measure of respectability to Hitler’s dream of an ethnically pure, divinely ordained nation-state. The Zionist occupation of the United States America, for example, should make one question who in fact “won the war.”

The following letter, an offer of support for Hitler in exchange for recognition of Nazi (National Socialist) Israel, was discovered in the German Embassy in Turkey after the war, is recorded in Politisches Archiv des AuswКrtigen Amtes, Bonn (PA/AA), Nr. E 234152-234158, and in David Yisraeli, The Palestine Problem in German Politics, 1889-1945, Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel, 1974 (in Hebrew), p. 315-317.

It was delivered by two Stern agents in Beirut, January 1941, to Werner Otto von Hentig, a Zionist advisor in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an attempt to re-establish Nazi-Zionist, SS-Staatszionisten, Gestapo-Mossad Le’aliyah Bet (‘המוסד לעלייה ב) ties that had been disrupted by the outbreak of war in 1939 between the U.K. and Germany.

Germany’s leading National Socialist statesmen have in comments and speeches more than once emphasized that a New Order in Europe requires a radical solution of the Jewish question through evacuation (“Jew-Free Europe”).

The evacuation of the Jewish masses from Europe is a prerequisite for solving the Jewish question, which is possible only by resettling these masses in the homeland of the Jewish people, Palestine, and by establishing the Jewish State in its historic boundaries.

To solve the Jewish problem in this way and once and for all to liberate the Jewish people is the aim of the political activity and the ongoing struggle of the Israeli freedom movement, the National Military Organization in Palestine (Irgun Zevai Leumi).*

The NMO, which knows full well the good will of the Reich government and its authorities toward Zionist activity in Germany and toward Zionist emigration plans, is of the opinion that a commonality of interest could exist between the interests of a new order in Europe according to the German concept, and the true national aspirations of the Jewish people as they are embodied by the NMO; cooperation between the new Germany and a renewed folkish-national Jewry would be possible; and the establishment of the historic Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, bound by treaty with the German Reich, would be in the interest of maintaining and strengthening the Germany’s future position as a power in the Near East.

Proceeding from these considerations, the NMO in Palestine, under the condition that the above-mentioned national aspirations of the Israeli freedom movement be recognized by the German Reich, offers to actively take part in the war on Germany’s side.

This offer by the NMO, which could include activity in the military, political and information fields in Palestine and, after certain organizational preparations, outside Palestine, would be linked with the military training and organization of Jewish manpower in Europe, under the leadership and command of the NMO, in military units that would play a combat role in the conquest of Palestine, should that become a front.

The indirect participation of the Israeli freedom movement in the New Order in Europe, already in the preparatory stage, in connection with a positive-radical solution of the European Jewish problem in the sense of the above-mentioned national aspirations of the Jewish people, would extraordinarily strengthen the moral basis of the New Order in the eyes of all humanity.

The cooperation of the Israeli Freedom Movement would be in line with the last speech given by Chancellor Herr Hitler, that he would employ any combination and coalition in order to isolate and beat England.

[* N.B. Abraham Stern dissociated himself from the Irgun organization in September 1940 and established his own group, “Lehi/Lechi” (“Lochamei Cherut Israel”: Fighters for Israel’s Freedom), but continued to see himself as the legitimate representative of the Irgun.]

From Werner Otto von Hentig’s memoir, Mein Leben: Eine Dienstreise (Göttingen: Vanderhock, 1956):

“In Beirut I took up residence in the ‘Hotel Monopol.’ … The most extraordinary delegation came from Palestine itself. The leader, a handsome young officer type, offered to work together with the National Socialists against their own people, especially the orthodox Zionists, if Hitler would agree to an independent Jewish Palestine.” (p. 338)

“I could only respond to the Jewish delegation that the offer of cooperation and the conditions stated could never be accepted out of consideration for our Arab friends and our general principles.” (p. 399)

Von Hentig was an avid Zionist, but opposed the Zionist goal of inciting Muslim Arabs into militant Jihad against the British and the French. A pro-Zionist SS report of 1934, in support of the Zionist Umshulungslager (Zionist training camps in Germany and Austria, some of which had been built on land donated by the SS) etc., had concluded that Palestine and French-controlled Syria and Lebanon should be able to absorb the entirety of European Jewry. Accordingly, Arab antagonism against the British and French was welcome, but von Hentig thought that Zionist promotion of Jihad would prove unmanageable.

Nazi-Zionist collaboration was also carried out via contacts between the SS (SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, SS-Untersturmführer Adolf Eichmann, and various Sicherheitsdienst operatives) and the Haganah (Feival Polkes, etc.), who provided the Nazis with information on non-Zionist anti-Nazi Jewish activists.

Es ist des Oefteren von den leitenden Staatsmaennern des nationalsozialistischen Deutschlands ist ihren Aeusserungen und Reden hervorgehoben worden, dass eine Neuordnung Europas eine radikale Loesung der Judenfrage durch Evakuation vorausgesetzt (»Judenreines Europa«).

Die N.M.O., der die wohlwollende Einstellung der deutschen Reichsregierung und ihrer Beboerden zu der zionistischen Taetigkeit innerhalb Deutschlands und zu den zionistischen Emigrationsplaenen gut bekannt ist, ist der Ansicht, dass eine Interessengemeinschaft zwischen des Belangen einer Neuordnung Europas nach deutscher Konzeption und den wahren nationalen Aspirationen des juedischen Volkes, die von der N.M.O. vekoerpert werden, bestehen koennen, eine Kooperation zwischen dem Neuen Deutschland und einem erneuerten, voelkisch-nationalen Hebraertum moeglich waere und die Errichtung des historischen Judenstaates auf nationaler und totalitaerer Grundlage, der in einem Vertragsverhaeltnis mit dem Deutschen Reiche stuende, im Interesse der Wahrung und Staerkung der zukuenftigen deutschen Machtpositionen im Nahen Orient sei.

Ausgehend aus diesen Erwaegungen tritt die N.M.O. in Palaestinam unter der Bedingung einer Anerkennung der oben erwaehnten nationalen Aspirationen der Israelitischen Freiheitsbewegung seitens der Deutschen Reichsregierung, an dieselbe mit denn Angebote einer aktiven Teilnahme am Kriege an der Seite Deutschlands heran.

Das Angebot seitens der N.M.O., darum Taetigkeit auf das militaerische, politische und informative Gebiet, in und nach bestimmten organisatorischen Vorbereitungen auch ausserhalb Palaestinas, sich erstrecken koennten, waere gebunden an die militaerische Ausbildung und Organisierung der juedischeen Manneskraft Europas, unter Leitung und Fuehrung der N.M.O. in militaerischen Einheiten und deren Teilnahme an Kampfhandlungen zum Zwecke der Eroberung Palaestinsas, falls eine entsprechende Front sich bilden sollte.

Die indirekte Teilnahme der Israelitischen Freiheitsbewegung an der Neuordnung Europas, schon in ihrem vorbereitenden Stadium, im Zusammenhange mit einer positiv-radikalen Loesung des europaeischcn Judenproblems im Sinne der erwaehnten nationalen Aspirationen des juedischen Volkes, wuerde in den Augen der gesamten Menschheit die moralischen Grundlagen dieser Neuordnung ungemein staerken.

Die Kooperation der Israelitischen Freiheitsbewegung wuerde auch in der Linie einer der letzten Reden des deutschen Reichskanzler liegen, in der Herr Hitler betonte, dass er jede Kombination und Koalition benutzen werde um England zu isolieren und zu schlagen.

There’s a lot to be said for District 9, but I’m afraid I really don’t connect with the reviews calling it the best SF of the year. (Both Star Trek and Moon were, I think, better films, just off the top of my head.) District 9 is good, and there are aspects of it that are very good—I’m especially fond of the gorgeous establishing shots with the mothership hanging in the sky over Johannesburg—but while the South African setting is a nice change of pace at its core this is still a fairly pedestrian alien-refugee story of the kind we’ve all seen umpteen thousand times before. (And I find there’s something a little bit embarrassing in all the reviewers jumping to name apartheid, as if merely being able to recall the word were criticism enough. Apartheid is surely a red herring in all this; the film is much more about directly about the apartheidic horrors of globalization’s slums than about apartheid proper.)

The film’s best section is its first half-hour, which is presented to us in the form of documentary footage that darkly hints at events to come later in the plot. (During this period I thought it might actually be the best SF of the year.) It’s spellbinding; the entire film could and should have been like this. But the film, bizarrely, abandons this structure—it begins to show us nondiegetic scenes which were not and could not have been filmed interspersed with the documentary material, undercutting and ultimately destroying its own formal conceit. Likewise, the film’s striking setup—the arrival of a dank, apparently damaged mothership filled with starving insectoid worker drones whose temporary sojourn on Earth slowly turns permanent, much to the frustration of their human “benefactors”—seems largely forgotten in a plot that rapidly degrades into a silly fight over futuretech lasers and a MacGuffin rocket fuel that also (funny coincidence!) magically recodes human DNA. Important questions about global capitalism, the dark side of humanitarianism, and the legally precarious outsider status of the world’s poor are raised, only to be abandoned. Even the Eichmannesque unlikeability of the film’s protagonist goes essentially unexamined; he suddenly morphs into a conventional hero when the clock demands he must, and that’s that.

This film should be great, but it’s merely good, because it suffers badly from the aesthetic cowardice that causes mainstream films to retreat from their own best ideas, in favor of banal familiarity, whenever things threaten to get completely awesome.

What I’m saying is, District 9 is a romp, and a fun one—but it’s nowhere close to pushing the boundaries of cinematic SF. Let’s not lose our heads.

(…) Den Nationalsozialismus auf der Rechten zu verorten, ist eine dreiste Geschichtsfälschung. Die Nationalsozialisten selbst haben sich nie als Teil des rechten Lagers gesehen.

Adolf Eichmann, der Organisator der Massenmorde an den Juden, bekannte in seinen Memoiren: „Meine gefühlsmäßigen politischen Empfindungen lagen links.“ Joseph Goebbels, der Chefpropagandist, stellte klar: „Der Idee der NSDAP entsprechend sind wir die deutsche Linke… Nichts ist uns verhaßter als der rechtsstehende nationale Besitzbürgerblock.“ Und selbst der Immigrant Willy Brandt empfahl seinen Genossen von der Sozialistischen Arbeiterpartei: „Das sozialistische Element im Nationalsozialismus, im Denken seiner Gefolgsleute, das subjektiv Revolutionäre an der Basis, muß von uns erkannt werden.“ (Alle Zitate mit Quellenangaben nachzulesen auf Seite 22 des neuen Buches von Josef Schüßlburner.)

Und Hitler selbst? Nicht nur ließ er unter dem Vorwand der Röhm-Revolte am 30. Juni 1934 den General von Schleicher samt seiner Frau und andere rechtsgerichtete Persönlichkeiten ermorden, nicht nur kam die einzige wirklich gefährliche Opposition gegen sein Regime von rechts (siehe die Verschwörung in der Reichswehr 1938, die Aktivitäten von Admiral Canaris und das Attentat von 1944), sondern er zog auch gegen Ende seiner Herrschaft das Fazit: „Wir haben die linken Klassenkämpfer liquidiert, aber leider haben wir dabei vergessen, auch den Schlag gegen rechts zu führen. Das ist unsere große Unterlassungssünde.“

So sprach Hitler am 24. Februar 1945 auf einer Tagung der Reichs- und Gauleiter – nachzulesen auf Seite 457 in „Hitler – Selbstverständnis eines Revolutionäres“ von Rainer Zitelmann.

Damit wird die verlogene, historisch nicht belegbare Gleichsetzung von rechts und NS vollends ad absurdum geführt. Denn: Wenn Hitler den Grund seines Scheiterns darin sah, daß er den „Schlag gegen rechts“ unterließ und wenn man bedenkt, daß der aktuelle deutsche Staat seit der Wiedervereinigung Hunderte von Millionen für den „Kampf gegen rechts“ ausgegeben hat und noch ausgibt – wie kommt es dann, daß dieser Staat die ohne Zweifel rechtsgerichteten Freiheitskämpfer des 20. Juli 1944 (noch) in Ehren hält?

Übrigens weist auch Sebastian Haffner in seinen „Anmerkungen zu Hitler“ darauf hin, daß die einzige für Hitler gefährliche Opposition – die der Militärs – von rechts gekommen sei. Haffner fügte hinzu: „Von ihr aus gesehen stand Hitler links. Das gibt zu denken. Hitler ist keineswegs so leicht als extrem rechts im politischen Spektrum einzuordnen, wie viele Leute zu tun gewohnt sind.“ (…)

„Złota dekada” eksploatacji Ukrainy przez Żydów tragicznie skończyła się w 1648 roku, w czasie powstania Chmielnickiego. Wówczas bankierzy żydowscy doszli do przekonania, że grozi im wypędzanie z Polski, tak jak to miało miejsce wcześniej w Hiszpanii i innych krajach Europy zachodniej. Berlin został wybrany do przekazu kapitałów z Polski tak, że Brandenburgia w 1701 roku była w stanie ogłosić się „Królestwem Pruskim” a następnie zainicjować rozbiory Polski, które były podstawą zjednoczenia około 350 państewek Rzeszy, po raz pierwszy ze stolicą właśnie w Berlinie.

W czasie rozbiorów tylko zamożni Żydzi pozostali na terenach Zaboru Pruskiego. Stało się to z powodu wypędzania na wschód biedoty żydowskiej bez jakiekolwiek protestu ze strony zamożnych Żydów (I. C. Pogonowski, „Jews In Poland,” New York 1993, strona 245). Żydzi pozostali na terenie Zaboru Pruskiego i szybko przeszli na używanie języka niemieckiego zamiat yiddisz i zaczęli odgrywać coraz większą rolę w Niemczech, jak też przyłączać się do prześladowania Polaków przez Prusaków. Zasłużył się w tej sprawie Mojżesz Mendelson (1729-1786), Żyd urodzony we Wrocławiu, który był propagandzistą asymilacji Żydów do kultury niemieckiej i nawoływał do usuwania wszystkich żydowskich zewnętrznych cechy, różniących Żydów od Niemców.

Biedota żydowska, mówiąca językiem yiddisz, była określana jako „Betteljuden,” (Begger-Jews czyli Żebracy-Żydzi). Stała się ona postrachem zamożnych Żydów w Niemczech oraz stała się tematem szerzonej przez zamożnych Żydów, wrogiej propagandy o szkodliwości tych „Ost-Juden”, jak też głosiła o zagrożeniu dla gospodarki niemieckiej, jakie stanowiłoby masowe osiedlanie się biednych „Wschodnich Żydów” na terenie Niemiec.

Hitler był świadomy propagandy na temat „Ost-Juden” i wraz z pogarszaniem się stosunków Niemiec z USA najprawdopodobniej uważał, że malała wartość Żydów pod jego kontrolą, jako swego rodzaju „zakładników” do przetargu, w jego rozgrywce Berlina z Waszyngtonem. Już z początkiem 1941 roku, podczas starań żeby uzyskać pomoc Japonii przeciwko armii syberyjskiej, Hitler zobowiązał się wypowiedzieć wojnę przeciwko USA w cztery dni po wybuchu wojny Japonii przeciwko Stanom Zjednoczonym. (Faktycznie Hitler wypowiedział wojnę Ameryce 11 grudnia 1941 roku, w cztery dni po japońskim bombardowaniu Pearl Harbor 7 grudnia, 1941.)

Japończycy nie zaatakowali armii syberyjskiej, która w sile ponad 100,000 żołnierzy, dobrze wyposażonych w artylerię, czołgi i samoloty, uderzyła z ulic Moskwy na pozycje niemieckie. Niemcy w grudniu 1941 roku przegrali bitwę o Moskwę i widmo przegranej wojny oraz masowej inwazji na teren Niemiec przez masy „Ost Juden” przeraziło Hitlera i było ważnym powodem ogłoszenia przez niego, z końcem stycznia 1942 roku, w Berlinie, w pałacu w Wansee „ostatecznego rozwiązania kwestii żydowskiej” na terenach kontrolowanych przez armię niemiecką.

Decyzja w Wansee była zupełną zmianą programu Hitlera w sprawie Żydów europejskich. Trzeba pamiętać, że Hitler w czasie euforii z podboju Francji w 1940 roku, wyobrażał sobie, że W. Brytania wnet podda się pod naciskiem bombardowania niemieckiego lotnictwa w „bitwie o Brytanię”. Hitler sobie wyobrażał, że wówczas będzie mógł użyć floty francuskiej i brytyjskiej do ewakuacji wszystkich Żydów z okupowanej przez niego Europy, na wyspę Madagaskar.

Opracowanie szczegółów czteroletniej ewakuacji Żydów z portów włoskich, Hitler polecił Adolfowi Eichmann’owi, którego „czteroletni plan ewakuacji Żydów” z Europy jest łatwo dostępny na Internecie, pod hasłem „Madagaskar Projekt.” Projekt ten był traktowany bardzo poważnie przez Hitlera, ale jak wiadomo „Madagaskar Projekt” nie doszedł do skutku, ponieważ Niemcy przegrali „bitwę o Brytanię”.

Stało się to dużej mierze dzięki Polakom, których służyło w lotnictwie w W. Brytanii ponad 17,000, z czego koło dwóch tysięcy straciło życie i około dwóch tysięcy było ciężko rannych, a jednocześnie zestrzelili oni średnio więcej samolotów niemieckich niż piloci angielscy. Rola Polaków w klęsce niemieckiej w „bitwie o Brytanię” pogłębiła nienawiść Hitlera do Polski, która od początku wojny, w 1939 roku, była w Europie najbardziej brutalnie niszczonym terenem do czerwca 1941 roku i ataku Niemiec na Związek Sowiecki.

W decyzji Hitlera, żeby odstąpić od planów ewakuacji Żydów z okupowanej przez niego Europy, i podjąć decyzję wymordowania wszystkich Żydów mu dostępnych, decydującą rolę odegrała klęska pod Moskwą i jego strach przed potencjalnym zalewem pobitych Niemiec przez „Żydów Wschodnich.”

Pamiętam jak w czasie ewakuacji obozu koncentracyjnego pod Berlinem, z miejscowości Sachsenhausen, gdzie spędziłem pięć lat jako więzień polityczny („politische schutzhaeftling), Niemcy wymordowali w czasie ewakuacji tego obozu, począwszy od 20 kwietnia 1945, około 6,000 więźniów, w ramach „zapobiegania” ich szkodliwości dla ludności niemieckiej. Stało się to w czasie „marszu śmierci” w Brandenburgii. Działo się tak w licznych „marszach śmierci” w ostatniej fazie wojny, kiedy w większości obozów koncentracyjnych Żydów ogóle nie było.

Uważam, że taką samą logiką kierował się Hitler w stosunku do Żydów w styczniu 1942 roku w przeciwieństwie do jego „czteroletniego planu” ewakuacji Żydów z Europy w 1940 roku na wyspę Madagaskar. Niestety żydowski ruch roszczeniowym fałszuje fakty historyczne. Często zwały trupów więźniów w 1945 roku, pokazuje się w USA jako zabitych Żydów, podczas gdy wówczas kolosalną większość ofiar zbrodni niemieckich stanowili Słowianie, zwłaszcza Polacy.

Niedawno widziałem program telewizyjny profesora Normana Finketsteina, autora książki „Holocaust Industry,” który nazywał oszustami przywódców żydowskiego ruchu roszczeniowego i twierdził, że ludzie ci, pod wodzą Edgara Brofmana (magnata handlu alkoholem i szefa Światowego Związku Żydów), pomnożyli wielokrotnie ilość Żydów, żyjących ofiar zbrodni niemieckich, pobrali na ich odszkodowanie w wysokości miliardów dolarów, od Niemiec i innych państw, takich jak Szwajcarja, a następnie pieniądze te w kolosalnej większości sprzeniewierzyli.

Profesor Finkelstein stwierdził, że on sam starał się bezskutecznie przez ponad dwadzieścia lat, o odszkodowanie dla jego własnej matki, więźniarki obozów niemieckich oraz zacytował dużą ilość listów do redakcji gazet w Izraelu, w których Żydzi-weterani obozów niemieckich piszą, że obecnie żyją w nędzy, podczas gdy odszkodowania pobrane za nich zostały sprzeniewierzone.

Żydowski ruch roszczeniowy żąda 65 miliardów dolarów od Polski i posługuje się szantażem od wielu lat, oraz niszczy dobre imię Polaków w USA, czego sam jestem świadkiem od pół wieku. Dopiero w 2009 roku zobaczyłem po raz pierwszy na ekranie Polaków pokazanych jako „zdradzonych bohaterów” Drugiej Wojny Światowej w filmie „Za Zamkniętymi Drzwiami.” Tymczasem doszło w USA do tego, że np. autorzy „dreszczowców” kryminalnych dają najczarniejszym charakterom polskie nazwiska.

Ciekawe jest, że w czerwcowym wydaniu pisma „New York Review of Books” Timothy Snyder pisze o Żydach Wschodnich jako o ignorowanej części zagłady Żydów w czasie Drugiej Wojny Światowej.

Fronda.pl: Od wielu lat powtarza Pan, że Polska powinna zdecydowanie reagować na postulaty organizacji żydowskich dotyczące zwrotu majątków. Dziś środowiska te domagają się zwrotu majątków ofiar, które nie pozostawiły potomstwa. Czyli Pana przepowiednie, wyśmiewane przez niektórych, się sprawdzają.

Stanisław Michalkiewicz: – Żądanie, żeby Polska wypłaciła jakieś ogromne sumy (pan Szewach Weiss wspominał o 60 miliardach dolarów, pan Dawid Peleg, były ambasador Izraela w Warszawie, nie precyzował tej liczby, ale też mówił o sumie kilku miliardów dolarów, za mienie, które pozostawili w Polsce Żydzi bez spadkobierców) rekompensaty organizacjom tzw. przemysłu Holokaustu, ma cechy niczym już nie maskowanego szantażu. Żądanie rekompensat dla ludzi, którzy zostawili spadkobierców ma przynajmniej jakieś pozory uzasadnienia. Pozory, gdyż domagają się tego organizacje, które tych spadkobierców nie reprezentują.

Natomiast w wypadku o którym mówimy już nawet żadnych pozorów nie ma. Jest to po prostu szantaż i sytuacja, która się wytworzyła na praskiej konferencji pokazuje, jak wielkim błędem było wypłacenie łapówki organizacjom żydowskim za przyjęcie Polski do NATO. To miało miejsce w 1997 roku. Łapówka przyjęła postać ustawy o stosunku Państwa do gmin wyznaniowych żydowskich w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej.

Czy mógłby Pan w skrócie przedstawić historię tej ustawy?

- Kiedy Polska ogłosiła, że jej politycznym priorytetem jest wejście do NATO, pojawił się przeciek w amerykańskiej prasie, że ośmiu senatorów z obydwu partii zażądało od Warrena Christophera, ówczesnego Sekretarza Stanu, żeby Departament Stanu USA ostrzegł rządy państw Środkowej Europy, że jeśli nie zadośćuczynią roszczeniom żydowskim to stosunki Stanów Zjednoczonych z tymi państwami się pogorszą. Departament Stanu takiego pisma nie wysłał, ale polski rząd zareagował na prasowy przeciek i efektem tej reakcji była wspomniana wyżej ustawa.

Sprzeciwiałem się tej ustawie, nie dlatego żebym uważał, że gminom żydowskim państwo Polskie nie powinno żadnego majątku przekazać. Przeciwnie, uważałem, że powinno, ale nie powinno tego traktować w kategoriach zwrotu.

Sytuacja prawna była identyczna z tą, którą miały diecezje i parafie Kościoła rzymsko-katolickiego na ziemiach zachodnich po II wojnie światowej. W 1972 roku rząd Polski nadał im mienie. Uważałem więc, że w podobnej sytuacji rząd Polski powinien nadać dziewięciu gminom żydowskim mienie w takich rozmiarach jakie im są potrzebne do pracy i funkcjonowania.

Natomiast nie było żadnego powodu, żeby tym mieniem wyposażać nowojorską organizację restytucji mienia, która jako żywo żadną gminą żydowską w Polsce nigdy nie była. Wtedy to się wszystko zaczęło.

Polska ulega organizacjom żydowskim?

- Ta sprawa pokazuje jakim błędem było uleganie szantażystom. W tej chwili następuje tylko eskalacja żądań, towarzyszą jej pogróżki pod adresem Polski. Ówczesny Sekretarz Światowego Kongresu Żydów pan Izaak Singer (który zresztą potem okazał się malwersantem) w kwietniu 1996 roku publicznie stwierdził, że jeśli Polska nie spełni żydowskich żądań będzie upokarzana na arenie międzynarodowej. Była to groźba wypowiedzenia Polsce wojny psychologicznej, która zresztą się toczy. To nie jest mój wymysł, ja stwierdzam fakty.

Rząd Polski nie powinien w ogóle negocjować z tego typu organizacjami, które nie wiadomo kogo reprezentują. Rządowi polskiemu powinny wystarczyć kontakty z innymi państwami. Stosunki między państwami polegają na tym, że państwa zaciągają wobec siebie zobowiązania. Wobec organizacji, która dzisiaj jest a jutro się może rozwiązać, zmienić szyld itd., państwo nie może podejmować żadnego zobowiązania. Jeśli tak uczyni, to w takich sytuacjach jedyną stroną, która ma zobowiązania jest państwo Polskie.

Nie chodzi o to, że te organizacje są żydowskie, jakiekolwiek by nie były nie wolno tak postępować. Nie są podmiotem prawa międzynarodowego i państwo polskie powinno ignorować tego typu zaczepki.

W deklaracji końcowej konferencji praskiej jest mowa o tym, że tylko „niektóre państwa” będą wypłacały Żydom, którzy nie zostawili spadkobierców, pieniądze. Delegacja polska wynegocjowała taki warunek, więc może jednak nie będziemy musieli wypłacać tych miliardów dolarów?

- Udział polityków amerykańskich na konferencji w Pradze, co prawda prywatny, pokazuje, że Stany Zjednoczone nie traktują Polski jako kraju zaprzyjaźnionego, tylko jako kraj podbity, bo tylko na kraj podbity się nakłada kontrybucje a tego typu żydowskie żądania mają właśnie charakter kontrybucji. Z przykrością stwierdzam, Polska nie powinna się godzić na to, żeby Stany Zjednoczone traktowały nasz kraj jako skarbonkę dla Żydów. Na tej płaszczyźnie stosunków ze Stanami Zjednoczonymi nie wolno się godzić na taką rolę w imię, minimum, godności narodowej. Obawiam się, że pan Peleg będzie postępował zgodnie z tym, co głosi. Polska nie powinna wziąć udziału w tej hucpie. Błędem jest podtrzymywanie kontaktów z szantażystami.

E a despeito das vicissitudes exteriores ou interiores que o levaram a se transformar em criminoso, existe um abismo entre a realidade do que você fez e a potencialidade do que os outros poderiam ter feito. Em janeiro de 1942, os subsecretários de Estado da Alemanha Nazista se reuniram em Wannsee, um subúrbio de Berlim, a fim de discutir e implementar a Solução Final, isto é, o assassinato sistemático de milhões de judeus. No livro “Eichmann em Jerusalém” (trad. de José Rubens Siqueira, Cia. das Letras), a filósofa Hannah Arendt narra, a partir dos testemunhos de Eichmann e baseada em extensa pesquisa, como se deu a conferência. Um trecho:

O objetivo da conferência era coordenar todos os esforços na implementação da Solução Final. A discussão voltou-se primeiro para as “complicadas questões legais”, como o tratamento a ser dispensado aos que eram meio ou um quarto judeus: eles deviam ser mortos ou apenas esterilizados? Em seguida, houve uma discussão franca sobre os “vários tipos de solução possível para o problema”, o que queria dizer os vários métodos de matar, e aqui também houve mais que “alegre concordância entre os participantes”; a Solução Final foi recebida com “extraordinário entusiasmo” por todos os presentes (…). A reunião não durou mais do que uma hora, uma hora e meia, depois do que foram servidos drinques e todo mundo almoçou — “uma íntima reuniãozinha social”.

Antes da implementação da Solução Final, os nazistas trabalharam com os judeus no sentido de “auxiliá-los” a deixar o país, isto é, facilitar a expropriação de seus bens e a expulsão da Alemanha e dos países ocupados. Storfer, um funcionário judeu que trabalhou com Eichmann por muitos anos, teria direito à deportação, mas, por ter tentado se esconder ou fugir, acabou preso em Auschwitz. Abaixo, em outro trecho de “Eichmann em Jerusalém”, o próprio Eichmann narra como foi seu encontro com Storfer no famigerado campo de concentração:

Eichmann recebeu um telegrama de Rudolf Höss, comandante de Auschwitz, revelando que Storfer havia chegado e solicitava urgentemente ver Eichmann. “Eu disse comigo mesmo: tudo bem, esse homem sempre se comportou bem, vale a pena [...] Eu mesmo vou lá e vejo qual é o assunto dele. E vou até Ebner [chefe da Gestapo em Viena], e Ebner diz assim — só me lembro vagamente — ‘Se ele pelo menos não fosse tão desastrado; ele se escondeu e tentou escapar’, alguma coisa assim. E a polícia o prendeu e mandou para o campo de concentração, e segundo as ordens do Reichsfürer [Himmler], ninguém podia sair, depois de entrar num deles. Nada se podia fazer. Nem o dr. Ebner, nem eu, nem ninguém podia fazer alguma coisa a respeito. Fui para Auschwitz e pedi a Höss para ver Storfer. ‘Claro, claro [Höss disse], ele está num dos grupos de trabalho forçado.’ Com Storfer depois, bem, foi normal e humano, tivemos um encontro normal, humano. Ele me falou de todo o seu sofrimento, sua dor: eu disse: ‘Bom, meu querido amigo [...], sobrou para nós! Que falta de sorte!’. E eu disse também: ‘Olhe, eu não posso mesmo ajudar você, porque as ordens do Reichsfürer são de ninguém sair. Soube que você cometeu um grande erro, que você se escondeu ou quis se trancar, coisa que, afinal, você não precisava fazer’. [...] Não me lembro a resposta dele. E aí perguntei como estava. E ele disse, bem, perguntou se não podia ser dispensado do trabalho, que era trabalho pesado. E eu então disse a Höss: ‘Storfer não vai ter de trabalhar!’. E Höss disse: ‘Todo mundo trabalha aqui’. Então eu disse: ‘Certo, vou escrever uma nota para solicitar que Storfer fique cuidando dos caminhos de cascalho com uma vassoura’, havia uns caminhos de cascalho lá, ‘e que ele tem direito de sentar com sua vassoura num dos bancos’. [Para Storfer] eu disse: ‘Está bom assim, sr. Storfer? Está bom para o senhor?’. Com isso ele ficou muito contente, e apertamos as mãos, e ele recebeu a vassoura e sentou no banco. Isso foi uma grande alegria interior para mim, poder ao menos ver esse homem, com quem trabalhei durante tantos anos, e ver que podíamos conversar.” Seis semanas depois desse encontro normal, humano, Storfer foi morto — aparentemente não na câmara de gás, mas fuzilado.

Lendo “Eichmann em Jerusalém”, de Hannah Arendt, penso que o mais assustador é um sujeito como Karl Adolf Eichmann, uma nulidade, um burocratazinho arrivista que só entrou para o partido nazista depois de ser expulso de uma sociedade maçom, ter feito o que fez, ter cumprido as ordens que cumpriu, e tudo isso sem pestanejar, enfim, um sujeito desses é ainda pior do que um oficial qualquer da SS que realmente acreditava no que fazia, do que um “crente” do idéario nazista, do que um antissemita sanguinário. Eichmann é a quintessência do Homem Médio, do indivíduo sem alma, do “homem oco” apontado por Eliot, do cretino que se deixa levar, que só quer “assumir uma posição”, que só quer “se dar bem”, e que, no fim das contas, se mostra capaz das piores coisas, das maiores barbaridades, abraçando a escuridão mais completa com um sorriso maníaco engendrado ali mesmo, nas trevas. A desgraça é que o mundo está repleto de pessoas assim, seres trevosos, cumpridores de suas funções, leais cumpridores de suas obrigações, sejam elas quais forem, queimar livros ou pessoas.

Em 2001, um filme chamado Conspiração foi lançado pela HBO. De roteiro sólido, Conspiração mostra o que se passou durante a Conferência de Wannsee, onde os altos oficiais nazistas decidiram exterminar o povo judeu. No meio do filme, um professor que se opõe à ’solução final’ aborda Reinhard Heydrich (Chefe de Segurança do Reich) e lhe conta uma história.

Havia um rapaz – diz o professor – que detestava seu pai. O pai havia lhe maltratado a vida inteira, tanto moral quanto fisicamente. Por conta disso, o rapaz odiava o pai com todas as suas forças. Quando o pai morreu, todos esperavam que o rapaz fosse ficar feliz. Mas aconteceu o contrário – ele ficou triste por muito tempo.

Adolf Eichmann também ouve a história, mas não entende sua moral. Cabe a Heydrich lhe explicar. O rapaz da história odiava tanto seu pai que sua raiva havia preenchido todos os aspectos de sua existência – ele vivia para se vingar do velho. Quando o pai morreu, sua vida esvaziou-se de significado. O professor havia contado essa história para advertir Heydrich – se os nazistas tornassem o extermínio dos judeus a sua razão de viver, sua existência perderia o propósito quando os judeus se fossem.

Já ouvi minha parcela de críticas sobre a série Prison Break (com destaque para o fato dos protagonistas passarem a segunda temporada inteira fora da prisão). Tem gente que acha inverossímil, por exemplo, que personagens que tentaram se matar nos primeiros episódios estejam se ajudando nos últimos – alguns até exibem sinais de afeto. Eu não acho esse retrato inverossímil. Na verdade, nada poderia ser mais humano.

Os laços que nos unem são estranhos. Do meu passado distante, as pessoas de quem sinto mais saudades são aquelas que odiei. O pivete no ônibus, o professor de Matemática, o garoto brigão da minha classe. Não é uma saudade do tipo ‘ih vou ligar praquele cara em Bangu II pra agitar um chope’, e sim algo mais parecido com gratidão.

Qualquer força que eu tenha criado eu devo à passagem dessas figuras pela minha vida. Hoje eu só consigo lidar com chefes destrutivos porque aquele professor me suspendeu na terceira série. Só sei me defender contra inimigos implacáveis porque aquele bully me ensinou a revidar. E só aprendi a aceitar perdas irreversíveis porque o pivete levou meu relógio do Mickey.

Quando passamos por emoções extremas – seja amor ou ódio – acho que somos nós mesmos por um piscar de olhos. E as pessoas que nos permitiram isso ficam marcadas na retina da nossa alma.  Suspeito que essa seja a raiz da Síndrome de Estocolmo (quando um sequestrado desenvolve afeto por seu algoz), da empatia sentida por homens depois que saem na porrada (ou, no meu caso, depois de um debate em voz alta) ou até pela amizade improvável entre ex-rivais de um reality show (com certa preferência para aquele que ganhou os cinco milhões de  dólares). É o que faz os personagens de séries e mangás se infernizarem na primeira temporada e virarem amigos na terceira.

Corrijo o que escrevi na metade desse texto. Os laços que nos unem não são estranhos – laços são os vínculos que sentimos por um porteiro simpático ou um amigo de academia. Um laço, para ser firme, deve se tornar um nó. E nós são para sempre.

February 7, 2009 (LPAC): In the mid-1990s, George Soros reportedly gave a $50 million personal loan to the Colombia financiers, the brothers Gilinski — Jaime and Isaac Gilinski, to support their takeover of the Banco de Colombia, which had been privatized. Soros reportedly gained about a 9% interest in that bank. The Gilinskis were majority owners of Banco de Colombia for about three years, then sold it, but may have retained a minority interest. Soros may have invested more in the bank after the Galinskis moved out of control.

In 2003, the Lubavitcher organization at Harvard University held a ceremony honoring the same Jaime Gilinski of Cali, Colombia, because he gave the money to build their headquarters; Alan Dershowitz spoke at the same or another ceremony honoring Gilinski, saying Gilinski’s action would work against anti-semitism at Harvard. The Lubavitcher introducing Gilinski called him “the leader of Jewish communities throughout Latin America.”

On March 31, 2005, the Federal Reserve issued a cease and desist order to the Eagle National Holding Co. Of Miami, Florida, owner of Eagle National Bank of Miami, banning transactions between the company and other financial organizations controlled by the holding company’s chairman, Jaime Gilinski; the Galinski companies are controlled by a trust owned by the Gilinski family.

In November, 2008, the Gilinski brothers and their partners, the U.K.-based London & Regional Properties, began construction in Panama on a $700 million urban commerical and tourist center on the former Howard Air Force Base, that used to guard the Canal. London & Regional Properties has a big operation in Russia, staffed by former Soros executives.

Remember, when all is said and done, George Soros is a direct operation of the British Empire, aka the Anglo-Dutch-Saudi Globalized Financial System.

Eichmann-Zionist Connection:

Soros was connected to the Zionist network that assisted Eichmann in his part of the genocide of the Jews in exchange for spiriting the Hungarian Zionist elite to Palestine.

In 1937, Labor Zionist Feivel Polkes invited Eichmann to Palestine. On 2 October 1937, the Nazi visited a kibbutz. Realizing he was a German agent, the British deported him to Egypt, where he eventually met Polkes, who offered to spy for Germany in return for loosened currency restrictions for Zionists.

In 1944, Labor Zionist Reszo Kasztner (a.k.a. Rudolph Kastner) negotiated with Eichmann, offering silence on Nazi plans to deport 750,000 Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz in return for Eichmann’s promise to send prominent Jews to Switzerland. In 1946, Kasztner reported his activities to the World Zionist Organization. In 1953, the Israeli government on Kasztner’s behalf sued a Hungarian Jew for libeling Kasztner as a Nazi collaborator, but the judge found him to actually have been a collaborator. He also perjured himself in a Nuremberg affidavit on behalf of an SS man.

In 1955, hiding in Argentina, Eichmann discussed Palestine and Kasztner on tape. After his capture in 1960, Life magazine published excerpts. On the kibbutz in 1937,

“Eichman [saw] enough to be very impressed by the way the Jewish colonists were building up their land. I admired their desperate will to live, the more so since I was myself an idealist. In the years that followed I often said to Jews with whom I had dealings that, had I been a Jew, I would have been a fanatical Zionist. I could not imagine being anything else. In fact, I would have been the most ardent Zionist imaginable.”

Eichmann:

“Kasztner…was a fanatical Zionist. He agreed to help keep the Jews from resisting deportation — and even keep order in the collection camps — if I would close my eyes and let a few hundred or a few thousand young Jews emigrate illegally to Palestine. It was a good bargain. For keeping order in the camps, the price of 15,000 or 20,000 Jews — in the end there may have been more — was not too high for me. And because Kastner rendered us a great service by helping keep the deportation camps peaceful, I would let his groups escape.”

“Hunting Eichmann,”

The story finally is told how Holocaust survivors and Israel’s spies found the mastermind of Nazi Germany’s “Final Solution,” the hideously well-organized plan that murdered six million Jews during World War II.

The subject of the quest, Adolf Eichmann, was the diabolical brain behind the extermination plan. It wasn’t until 15 years after the war ended that he was finally found and, after a lengthy trial that was front-page news around the world, hanged for his genocidal crimes.

It’s a helluva story, nonfiction that reads like a modern mystery with twists and turns, dead ends, near misses and tiny details that yield huge payoffs.

How Israel’s Mossad — helped by tips from survivors of the Nazi death camps — tracked Adolf Eichmann to Argentina and a miserable shack with no electricity or running water is nothing short of a miracle.

How Eichmann escaped Germany as World War II came to a crashing end around him could be seen as miraculous as well. How this wanted war criminal made his way to South America, however, includes a segment that will cause shame for members of the Catholic community.

Catholic collusion

Part of the network that helped Nazis escape, Bascomb’s research uncovered, included Bishop Alois Hudal, “an Austrian and a devotee of Hitler who proudly brandished his golden Nazi Party membership badge.”

Bishop Hudal personally wrote to Argentine dictator Juan Peron to request visa for 5,000 Germans and Austrians.

A string of monasteries and convents in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy served as refuge to hide and smuggle Nazis away from prosecution, and Eichmann took advantage, finally making his way across Europe to Genoa, Italy, and the Church of San Antonio. Franciscan Father Edoardo Domoter, a Hungarian sympathetic to fleeing Nazi’s, sheltered him in the rectory there while Eichmann secured a refugee’s passport from Red Cross officials and a visa from the Argentine consulate, and soon was on the passenger ship Giovanna C headed to South America with a number of other former Nazi bigwigs.

Bascomb notes that, while cardinals and priests were involved in helping war criminals escape prosecution, “Pope Pius XII did not officially approve of the Vatican’s involvement in the network, but he certainly turned a blind eye to it, primarily because of the church’s commitment to act as a bulwark against the spread of communism.”

Amazingly detailed research

The capture of Eichmann and especially the deception required to hide him and then spirit him out of Argentina to stand trial in Israel are as close to against-all-odds material as any fiction writer might dream up.

The fact that the Israelis were able to pull it off — find him, first of all, grab him off the street, secret him away for a number of days and whisk him off to Israel in the first El Al plane ever to visit Argentina — is terrific storytelling.

Pulling all the pieces of the story together through interviews and historical documents is truly the work of a gifted writer and team of researchers. The 327-page Houghton Mifflin Harcourt book includes an additional 27 pages of verifying footnotes and helpful bibliography and index. Photos taken with hidden suitcase cameras, maps of Eichmann’s Argentine neighborhood and even Eichmann’s Red Cross passport — using the alias Riccardo Klement — bring life and authenticity to the pages.

The world cannot forget

What Bascomb adds, though, as icing on the cake, is the reason that bringing Eichmann to trial on Israeli soil was so important for the Jewish people, especially for the younger generations of Israelis but even more importantly for the world. Bascomb writes in his epilogue:

“As for the rest of the world, the Eichmann affair rooted the Holocaust in the collective cultural consciousness. . . . The Holocaust was finally anchored in the world’s consciousness — never to be forgotten — by the outpouring of survivor memoirs, scholarly works, plays, novels, documentaries, paintings, museum exhibits, and films that followed in the wake of the trial and that still continues today. This consciousness, in Israel and throughout the world, is the enduring legacy of the operation to capture Adolf Eichmann.”
