<p>Die Entwicklung am 4. Teil der Diebes-Saga gehe zügig voran, ließ Eidos Montreal die Szene-Seite  <a href="http://www.incgamers.com/News/19849/thief-4-coming-along-in-leaps-and-bounds">IncGamers</a> wissen. Das Team sei hochmotiviert und mache große Fortschritte. Dabei werde Thief 4 die Erwartungen der Serien-Fans nicht enttäuschen. Eventuell deutet dies auf eine Präsentation des Titels auf der kommenden E3 2010 hin. Genaue Angaben hat Eidos allerdings nicht gemacht. Wir sind gespannt, durch welch`dunkle  Gassen Meisterdieb Garrett dann im neuesten Ableger schleichen wird.</p>
<p>Der erste Teil <em>Thief: Dark Project</em> erschien 1998 und war ein großer Erfolg &#8211; bis heute gilt es aufgrund seines innovativen Gameplays als Geheimtipp. Auch die beiden Nachfolger <em>Thief 2: The Metal Age </em>(2000) und <em>Thief: Deadly Shadows</em> (2004) gelten als rundum sehr gelungene, spannende Spiele.</p>

Tomb Raider was widely praised by gaming magazines for its revolutionary graphics, inventive game play, and involving storyline.</p>
<p>It was developed by Core Design and is arguably its most famous (amongst other classics such as Chuck Rock and Heimdall) and most successful game.</p>
<p>Developed by Toby Gard (hailed as the creator of Lara) and Paul Howard Douglas, the original Tomb Raider began development in 1993 but was not released until November 1996 for the PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn. The game was critically acclaimed and widely influential, spawning 5 sequels with Core Design. Core developed Tomb Raider games up until the release of Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, which can be argued as the most unsuccessful game in the series. </p>
<p>Publisher Eidos then passed the reinvention of the franchise onto Crystal Dynamics, who in turn reinvented Lara for a new generation of gamers and hardware in Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary (a rethinking of the original game by Core Design).</p>

<p>There are two different continuities within the Tomb Raider video games. The first continuity was created by Core Design, and encompasses the first six Tomb Raider games. The second and current continuity was introduced by Crystal Dynamics for the series&#8217; reinvention in Tomb Raider: Legend. Both continuities were created with the participation of Toby Gard (Gard returned to assist with the reinvention of his character in Tomb Raider: Anniversary). Lara currently stars in Tomb Raider Underworld released in 2008.</p>

Core Design was acquired by Eidos Interactive in 1996 through US Gold. Core continued development of the Tomb Raider games until 2003 with Angel of Darkness. The company became defunct in 2006.</p>

<p>Crystal Dynamics was formed in 1992 by Sega veterans Judy Lange, Madeline Canepa and Dave Morse (Amiga). Crystal was the first licensed developer for 3DO. Crystal Dynamics was acquired in 1998 by Eidos Interactive and by 2003, Eidos Interactive moved development of the Tomb Raider franchise from Core (which had limited success with its later Tomb Raider titles) to Crystal Dynamics.</p>

<p><strong>Eidos Interactive:</strong></p>
<p>Eidos Interactive is a publisher of video and computer games with its parent company based in England. Eidos plc became the parent company of Eidos Interactive and was founded in 1990 by Stephen Bernard Streater. In 1996 it acquired CentreGold which included US Gold and Core Design. Eidos has published all the Tomb Raider games to date. Eidos Interactive is now a part of Square Enix (April 2009). Some of Eidos portfolio of published games includes the Hitman series, Thief series and Deus Ex series.</p>
<p>Tomb Raider is the first game I had for my Sega Saturn and from the moment the title screen appeared and its signature title music began I was hooked. Even though I love the new games, and thoroughly enjoyed the anniversary Edition, nothing will match the feeling of playing the original for the first time. The graphics were impressive and a control system I&#8217;d not experienced before was quick and easy to get used to, it opened up a whole new world of exploration and puzzle solving as well as story telling and action.</p>
<p>One of my all time favourite retro games, some of my favourite levels from the original include St Francis Folly (Neptune, Thor, Atlas and Damocles puzzles) The Cistern and the Obelisk of Khamoon. The title music (and incidental music) make playing this through again worthwhile and certainly brings back a lot of memories.</p>

Сега продължаваме да не знаем кога ТОЧНО ще излезе играта, но все пак беше обявено (с изключително скучен прес релийз) официално, че събитието ще се случи някъде през 2010&#8230; и цялото име е Kane &#38; Lynch 2™: Dog Days</p>

After months and months of lurking ffffound.com, I think<br />
I finally know what I want to specialise in (assuming that<br />
I do get into) visual communications.<br />
<strong>logotypography.</strong></p>
<p>Logotypography has fascinated me for years.<br />
When I first got to messing around with free<br />
graphics design programs (read: low-end)<br />
- my starting off points were free fonts and<br />
dingbats, manipulating shape sets to create<br />
pastiche, &#8216;new&#8217; designs. I quickly realised the<br />
futility of working in this manner, as I was<br />
never truly creating. In Aristotle&#8217;s terms;<br />
creating Eidos from Eidos, not Morphe.</p>
<p>There was nothing to be proud of from the shit<br />
that I had created. I was wallowing,<br />
so I decided to find a new way to create.<br />
Since I lacked the skills to even create a visually<br />
pleasing 180° line, I swore on my future children&#8217;s<br />
lives, that I would become an image deconstructionalist.<br />
I started pulling images from any where I could<br />
find the appropriate part &#8211; Scanning, Sketching,<br />
Tracing, Google Images, <em>Any</em>where.<br />
After I had all of the parts required I could begin<br />
assembling my original idea. This system has<br />
continued to be put to use with any design work<br />
I have completed since. It is the only<br />
way I know so far.</p>
<p>Which brings me back to my original point of finally<br />
knowing what I want to specialise in.<br />
After discovering iconwerk.de tonight.<br />
I am absolutely convinced that logotypography<br />
is exactly what I want to do with myself.<br />
Just watching <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPj2cZNXkx4">this</a> made it so much clearer.</p>
<p>I love the idea of taking a real world object and<br />

There&#8217;s been a lack of posts over the last week or so as I&#8217;ve been busy doing some work of my own but I didn&#8217;t want to let this one by. I consider the first Just Cause game an &#8216;interesting experiment&#8217; with the Xbox 360. It was a very nice looking sandbox game that didn&#8217;t push the boundaries too much but got some decent reviews and tested the 360 and showed the &#8216;next-generation&#8217; gamer the kinds of things to expect from the console.<br />

Now Just Cause 2 has been announced a while back and I feel the game may lack that little bit it had going for it originally. There are so many games out there now just like this that it may go unnoticed but I did want to post a video about one of the new features you can play around with. Namely the grappling hook. Here&#8217;s a bit from the developers and some footage!<br />

<p>Yes, you read that right. A sequel to a very average game has a load of potential. Not because the mechanics can be improved upon, not because they can fix the flaws of the original but for a reason involving the<a title="Kane &#38; Lynch 2 Leaked Trailer?" href="http://increationgames.com/2009/11/05/a-very-unusual-kane-lynch-2-teaser/"> supposed leaked video</a>.</p>
<p><a title="Kotaku" href="http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/11/rumor-kane-lynch-2-has-a-very-nsfw-level/">Kotaku</a> apparently recieved a email which states that this scene is an actuall level. A level where you control your character completely naked. The sequel to a game with a lack of memorable scenes could get one of the most memorable scenes however. How funny would it be if this was true? As long as the mechanics have improved this level alone could make <em>Kane &#38; Lynch 2</em> a must buy!</p>
<p>The email also mentions that it will have online co-op which was surprisingly missing from the original.</p>

<p>It might be the least graphically impressive video game trailer we&#8217;ve ever seen, clearly by design. It might also be the first teaser for Eidos&#8217; sequel to Kane &#38; Lynch: Dead Men. <!--more--></p>
<p>A sequel is certain, reported to have been <a href="http://kotaku.com/307418/eidos-spending-big-on-kane--lynch-sequel-already-in-development">in development</a> as early as October 2007. The <a href="http://kotaku.com/5314280/kane--lynch-sequel-trademarked">likely name</a> of that sequel, Kane &#38; Lynch 2: Dog Days, puts one aspect of this teaser clip, hosted by MTV Germany&#8217;s <a href="http://gameone.de/playtube/2-nackte-maenner-hauen-einen-hund/581257">GameOne.de</a>, into context.</p>
<p>The video appears to have been shot by a Chinese restaurant&#8217;s surveillance cameras, filmed in black and white, featuring two naked men—with their unmentionables blurred out—running from gunfire. One, who appears to be Lynch, appears to have been hit by some of that gunfire, tumbles over a dining table and is attacked by a dog. The other man, possibly Kane, beats the dog away with some type of blunt object.</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s about it. The trailer, if it is for Kane &#38; Lynch 2: Dog Days, is certainly&#8230; interesting, if only a very, very brief taste of what we can expect in the sequel.</p>
<p>Judge for yourself. Does this scream viral marketing attempt at Kane &#38; Lynch 2: Dog Days? Or is someone pulling our leg?</p>

Before clicking that link though, I need to warn you about the teaser; it&#8217;s not what you would expect.</p>
<p>The teaser shows two naked men crash into a hotel after just being shot in a restaurant and then go on to attack a dog with a large object. You don&#8217;t see any bad bits but it&#8217;s still rather unusual. The characters do look like Kane and Lynch and the video is hilarious (In a very disturbing way) but I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s real or not.  If this is real, at least we know the sequel will be different from the crappy first game.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Batman has been around forever now, firstly in his comic book form where he was frequented by blatant propoganda and &#8220;POW&#8221;, &#8220;SPLAT&#8221;, and various other onomatopoeia, to the current day, where he somehow starred in a couple of really good movies (Or the first anyway, second one was pretty much Heath Ledger).</p>
<p>Now, games that are based around recent movie franchises or based around the movies themselves are usually not that terrific. You get some absolute golden stuff like Butcher Bay or Spiderman 2, but mostly they just fail because they often try to coincide with the movie too much rather than actually developing good gameplay or a story that isn&#8217;t just the movie retold.</p>
<p>Arkham Asylum is defying the odds, in that it&#8217;s actually a good game. Not just a decent game, but a well thought out story with fun gameplay elements, all rather consistent with the typical image of Batman, sort of a cross between classic saturday morning batman, and new movie &#8220;I eat gravel instead of cereal&#8221; Batman.</p>
<p>The game starts off with Batman driving the Joker back to Arkham Asylum (Basically where the Batman villains get locked up before they break out again, usually more than once, which is pretty impressive because it&#8217;s a sodding island with one bridge). You have a slightly slow entrance that establishes several characters, as well as some important plot lines that become more important later.</p>
<p>The story is mainly driven by actions from the Joker, Harley Quinn, and company, but occasionally they try to throw you off the scent, where your detective vision mode comes in handy. Detective vision is technology that lets batman see various elements invisible to the naked eye, such as tobacco traces, fingerprints, and other things in order to track people to their hiding spots. It also lets you see enemies through walls, shows if they have a gun, and can tell you if they&#8217;re scared, calm, unconscious, dead. It&#8217;s practically a straight upgrade to human eyes, the only problem is that it kind of gets boring not being able to see the impressive environments around you.</p>
<p>The gameplay in Batman is very solid in both its main aspects of fighting and stealth. While it&#8217;s normally difficult to pull of a seemless transition between the two, somehow they pull it off rather well. This is aided by the various gadgets batman unlocks through the game, which increase mobility, combat efficiency, and some are just plain fun, like the proxy explosive gel you can put near bodies and will explode automatically when an enemy gets too close.</p>
<p>The hand to hand fighting is really exceptional. In my (slightly limited) experience of fighting games, most of the time you can basically keep attacking the enemies until they fall over. While this is fun for a little while, it does get boring quickly because all the fights in the game feel the same.<br />
Batman shines because it&#8217;s always making you adapt how you fight with different enemies, different unlockable weapons and techniques, and has this flowing combat system, which means you get more experience from chain combos, which are pulled off by consistently being in combat with no more than 2 seconds between actions, avoiding all enemy attacks. It also pulls the difficulty curve up at a well crafted pace, meaning you never get too bored or hit a brick wall because you can&#8217;t seem to hurt the bastards.<br />
As a personal testament to the quality of the hand to hand fighting, I spent a lot of time after the game was finished in Challenge mode, trying to get better scores on the fighting challenges because it&#8217;s just so much fun.</p>
<p>The stealth combat is less impressive, though still rather solid. You basically sneak around a large room with a bunch of enemies walking around with firearms, and have to take them all down, using the gargoyles on the ceiling as escape tools.<br />
Where this shines is the environmental interaction you can pull off, e.g. you can blow up walls to knock out henchmen with the rubble, string them up on gargoyles, pull enemies over railings off ledges, all the while picking off enemies that are distracted by your Bat-toys you can unlock through the game.<br />
The main problem is though the enemies aren&#8217;t particularly good at seeing you, even when you&#8217;re hanging directly over henchmen, directly breathing down their neck, they don&#8217;t seem to notice. It does make it easier, but there could be another way of making the stealth sections doable without the henchmen having a collective IQ of 4.</p>
<p>Because Batman is pretty consistent in his character it takes his enemies to really define him and the story, and Mark Hamill does a terrific Job of portraying the Joker as a Wacky, Insane Genius who is constantly in communication with the entire island, changing between playing with batman and playing with his own henchmen.<br />
This results in some absolute golden lines, which are ever-changing throughout the game as you progress and his plans begin to take fruition. There&#8217;s some appearances from classic characters like Bane, Poision Ivy, Killer Croc, and some truly excellent sections as Batman is under the effect of Scarecrow&#8217;s fear gas. Every character is rich in detail and well voiced.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s also a metagame where batman has to find solutions to clues the Riddler has left around the island, taking pictures of the solution to get extra character info and maps for the Challenge mode. It also relates to a lot of characters that, while not having a pivotal role in the game, are still present in some way, such as the Frozen cell of Dr Freeze, or the Goggles of Catwoman, creating a feeling of an enormous universe you&#8217;re only scratching the surface in Arkham.</p>
<p>In short, Batman- Arkham Asylum is a terrific game, and can recommend it to practically anyone, as  I&#8217;m convinced that there&#8217;s probably no one in the world that doesn&#8217;t like Batman.</p>
