Well this is a very very good film called ”ELECTROMA” by the French duo Daft Punk shown on May21, 2006 as part of the Cannes Film Festival also with a really good Sountrack featuring artists like Todd Rundgren, Sebastien Tellier and of course, Jackson C. Frank Just enjoy it

Frank solo disfruten el film

Daft Punk é formado pelo duo francês Guy-Manuel de Homem Cristo e Thomas Bangalter.

Alem da enorme influencia no cenário da música eletrônica na década de 90, o Daft Punk é reconhecido por uma grande qualidade: a preocupação com a imagem.

Uma característica marcante são seus “disfarces”. Afinal, o Daft Punk não é “humano”, mas robótico. As roupas utilizadas pelo duo são um ponto a parte, um destaque em meio ao cotidiano e o comum. A dupla faz shows, da entrevistas… sempre vestidos assim, como dois robôs futuristas. Uma fantasia que se estende como parte de seu trabalho, como parte da performance. Mesclar o homem e a máquina. O Deux Ex Machina elevado a um patamar musical.

Além de tudo, a preocupação com o imagético e o audiovisual está muito presente em seus clipes, sempre muito bem trabalhados, com grande destaque para a história, tendo a música como um plano de fundo, um condutor.

Mais ainda, a dupla é muito talentosa “atrás das câmeras” também.

Talvez o trabalho mais conhecido seja Interstella 5555, um trabalho musical que se iniciou com o álbum “Discovery”, de 2003, e terminou como um longa metragem em animação, em parceria com a Toei Animation e Leiji Matsumoto (autor do cult Patrulha Estelar – ou, também conhecido como Space Battleship Yamato)

Com certeza você deve conhecer. Na época foram lançados alguns clipes, que mostravam uma banda espacial que é sequestrada em meio a um show. O ínico do filme é o clipe musical mais conhecido, o hit “One More Time”.

Além disso, em 2006 o Daft Punk voou mais alto. A dupla produziu um filme em live-action, chamado “Electroma”.

O filme estreou em Cannes e recebeu boas críticas. Uma viagem musical e psicodélica, que tem como protagonista dois andróides que partem em uma jornada em busca de sua humanidade.

I have a mild obsession with robots.  I am a big fan of anything robot or AI related. I am a total sucker for science fiction books, films and even music with science-fiction sampling. I found this clip on youtube a while ago, but never got round to putting it up on here. It is the final scene from Daft Punk’s film ‘Electroma‘. The story is about two androids trying to become human, and after encountering too much adversity in their quest, commit suicide. I find this clip visually stunning, although I do apologise for the naff timer at the top, I couldn’t find a better clip. The film itself is also interesting in so far that it features none of their own musical work, but that of a variety of other artists.  The soundtrack is nonetheless very good.

pada saat sedang googling, saya secara tidak sengaja menemukan film yang berjudul “electroma.” film ini adalah film experiment dan disutradari oleh band french house beken DAFT PUNK. tertarik karena film ini besutan daft punk, maka saya langsung download.. dan begitu selesai saya langsung download, dan ternyata film ini adalah film tanpa dialog (!) sepanjang 74 menit film ini berjalan tanpa dialog dan berjalan dengan lambat (hampir mati bosen saya menonton film ini).

karena saya nontonnya juga kurang fokus, kurang lebih film ini bercerita tentang perjalanan dua robot (daft punk ) untuk menjadi manusia (?). yah kalau salah, anda bisa cek langsung di wikipedia dan sudah saya beri linknya di atasa. apapun itu, sebenarnya film ini mungkin menarik jika saya tidak mengantuk karena bosan.

sayangnya daft punk sendiri tidak terlibat dalampembuatan soundtrack film ini. tapi  masih ada nama-nama beken, seperti todd rundgren, brian eno, dll.

buat para penggemar berat daft punk, film ini wajib dikoleksi selain film-film daft punk lainnya : interstella 5555: the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, dan D.A.F.T: a story about dogs, androids, fireman, and tomatoes.

According to Upcoming Film Scores, French electronica artists, Daft Punk, have been confirmed by Disney as having been recruited to score the much anticipated film, TRON2.0

If you’re familiar with the enigmatic duo who never show themselves unless dressed up like robots, you’ll know why this is freaking sweet, and if you don’t know them …How can you not dude, seriously, DAFT PUNK!

Daft Punk’s members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been involved in various films before, but Tron 2.0 will be their first complete feature film score. The film, scheduled for a 2011 release, is helmed by Joseph Kosinski and will feature Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

According to industry news reports, Tron 2.0 will play as the “next chapter” after the first film, with Wilde starring as one of the heroes trying to help fighting the Master Control Program, the evil intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the 1982 film.

Awesome.

My current desktop background. My classmates probably think I’m into robots. There are only two that have won my heart however… Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. When time permits I will back up my robo-crush.

So if you don’t know, Daft Punk has a new movie called Electroma. In short it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It really just had no point, really. All that happened was they walked it was really boring, there is no dialogue, it is about 1 hour and 10 minutes and there is only music for about 30 minutes total. There are a total of three good scenes, th rest of the time all they do is walk, drive a car, or star at each other or themselves in mirrors. Save yourself and don’t even bother getting this, it really is an hour of your life you will never get back. the only good thing about is that it was shot well and looks pretty, for the first 10 minutes you watch them walking. It just got old and really disappointed me. I expected a lot more from them after Interstella 5555 and all there music videos. Wha happen? I don’t know what made them make this and who ever wrote it must have been on a lot of stuff (”hey, let’s make them walk for half the movie without music, people like that right?”). So in short, do something better with your time like…watching paint with some music on. It’s about the same. If you disagree leave a comment and tell me why. Thanks for your time.

daft punk gehören zweifelsohne zu den innovativsten musikkünstlern unserr zeit. nun haben sie ihren ersten eigenen(stumm)film gedreht. “electroma“, der  2006 bei den filmfestspielen in cannes gezeigt wurde, ist heute, und nur heute (legal & for free) hier zu bewundern. also, nix wie hin da.

Durante todo el día de hoy se podrá ver en pitchfork.tv el film dirigido y protagonizado por Daft Punk, Electroma, dentro de su sección “One Week Only”, que en esta ocasión será “One Day Only” (vaya por dios!).

Electroma fue publicado en 2006 y es el último film que ha creado Daft Punk, tras D.A.F.T.: A Story About Dogs, Androids, Firemen and Tomatoes (1999) e Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (2003), y que contribuyen a que Daft Punk no sea sólo un grupo musical, sino todo un proyecto artístico.

Electroma es una prolongación del tema Human After All, y cuenta la historia de dos robots que quieren convertirse en humanos, y con ese fin hacen un recorrido por la América profunda. Al contrario que en los anteriores films de Daft Punk, no suena ninguna de sus canciones, sino de otros músicos como Brian Eno o Sébastien Tellier, aunque también tengo que decir que tiene muy poco sonido y apenas diálogo.

El film dura 74 minutos y y es una auténtica paranoia, como no cabía esperar menos viniendo de Daft Punk, así que sinceramente hay que ser fan convencido, o sino la cosa puede ser un poco pesada.

Durante todo el día de hoy se puede ver completo en Pitchfork.tv, y si habéis leído el post demasiado tarde o queréis haceros una idea de lo que os podéis encontrar, aquí dejo el tráiler:

But honestly, if you haven’t seen this film before, the cinematography is excellent, and the story is truly heartfelt.  (And we’re all a bunch of sheep.)

In preparation for The Flaming Lips’ Christmas On Mars I’ve been watching classic band made films.

Tonight was Daft Punk’s Electroma, and it got me thinking about 3 things:

1) Robot sex would be weird.

2) Robots have feelings too.

3) I’d rather be a cyborg than a robot, but I don’t know if I’d rather be a cyborg than a human.

Honda is about to start preparing us to become cyborgs by introducing these legs to help us walk better.

Do you want to become an Asian built cyborg???

Would being cyborg be “greener” than being human???

Would we need a new wardrobe to fit/better suite our robot bits???

Would electronic music be easier to make if Garage Band was in our minds???

Listening to Now: Danielson Trying Hartz (2008). Definitely not as accesible as 2006’s Ships, but still fun, and still weird.

Over the summer I watched a countless number of films, most of them were tragic, all of them were entertaining. One film, Electroma, struck me as particularly interesting. Written and directed by the masterminds of one of the most popular electronic music acts to date, Daft Punk, Electroma is an experimental, and completely dialogue free, film about robots trying to become human. Throughout the movie I was captivated by the eerie sense of humanity that these robot beings emanated. As the two robot main characters walked through town other robots were seen living seemingly human lives in the surrounding environment. At the end of the movie, after a failed attempt at applying wax replica faces to their robot heads, one of the main characters commits the purely human act of suicide, completing this eerie feeling with a heavy dose of sadness.

After watching Electroma I realized that it had an even more important role in the contemporary arts than that of just another creative movie. The way it depicts robots as humans it allows us to delve deep into the question; why do we enjoy tragedy? When we see a tragic film we view the actors as fake characters, or robots if you will. The reason we don’t fall into a deep depression when we see a sad film is that there is a disconnect between the characters and the moviegoers, they are not real to us. With this knowledge we are able to feel their real life emotions without fully feeling their pain, and this is why we are entertained. It is like the thrill of experiencing life without the agony of tragedy. When the film reel shuts off and we make our first steps toward the door we are able to breathe deeply and allow the real world rush over our bodies again. We have experienced sorrow without the sorrow.

Electroma è l’ultimo film dei Daft Punk, ma non parlerei di film quanto di project, termine che trovo più adatto.

Tutto gira intorno alla volontà di due robot (interpretati dai Daft Punk) di diventare umani. 

E’ un project davvero strano, ha un che di onirico e in qualche modo richiama lo psichedelico, forse per la scelta della colonna sonora a tratti ambient, quasi sperimentale.

L’ambientazione è la periferia californiana, caldo, deserto, una midtown qualunque in stile anni 70′ mediamente borghese, anche le varie apparecchiature, macchine e vestiti richiamano molto i ‘70, in tutto questo trova spazio una popolazione di robot dalle sembianze dei Daft Punk (nella foto le maschere storiche del duo).

Il resto se siete interessati vale la pena vederlo, a patto che siano rispettate questi prerequisiti:

• siete fan dei daft Punk
• trovate interessante Fuoriorario di Enrico Ghezzi
• non avete di meglio da fare per 90 minuti
• non vi aspettate di vedere il miglior film della storia

Se avete risposto Sì ad almeno 3 dei 4 requisiti sopra riportati potrete gustarvi questo esperimento by Daft Punk, altrimenti lasciate perdere. 

Conoscendo i limiti del project (nato dallo sviluppo di un video musicale) si riescono ad apprezzare i punti di forza come l’assenza di dialoghi che arricchiscono l’esperienza lasciando libero lo spettatore di esplorare l’emotività dei personaggi dai gesti, le pause e dalla colonna sonora davvero parte integrante del racconto.

Sicuramente un film di nicchia, da cinefestival o da veri appassionati del genere.

Jackson C Frank – I want to be alone

Åh, den här låten. Den är verkligen helt fantastisk. Singer/songwriters brukar inte vara min grej, men när jag hittar något jag gillar så bögar jag verkligen ur över det. Kan lyssna på den här låten typ tjugo gånger på rad och ändå inte tröttna. Tycker det är så otroligt vackert. Hans övriga musik är också asfin, men jag ha rinte lyckats få tag på den någonstans. Någon som vet var?

Filmklippet kommer i övrigt från Daft Punks film Electroma. Jävligt cool film, handlar om robotar som går i öknen. Fast den är snygg och har bra musik.

In light of my recent re-watching of this movie (it came out on DVD on July 22), I thought I would share my original review of it when it screened at The Brattle Theater in Boston. This review was originally written for my now-all-music blog, Anti-Gravity Bunny, and was published on February 28th, 2008.

Electroma played last night at The Brattle Theater for one night only and from what I could tell, the place was sold out. Which is understandable. Everybody loves Daft Punk and their movie, Electroma, hardly had a proper release. It’s doing more of a tour than anything else, similar to the way Sigur Ros’ Heima was put out. If a movie theater wanted to show the movie, they would have to contact the proper people in order to get it. So Electroma has been a difficult movie to see, even though it’s debut was a year and a half ago at Cannes in 2006. When you have a popular band making an obscure movie, you get hordes of people dying to see it.

There’s really not too much I can say about the movie without ruining anything. It’s almost 80 minutes long and is about 2 robots on a quest to become human. It takes place mostly in the desert. Everything about the movie is slow and subtle. This is not a Daft Punk music video and if you were expecting to hear their music, you went to see the wrong movie. This is the soft, quiet side of Daft Punk. I feel like this is Daft Punk’s version of 2001. Sound (or the lack thereof) is a major part of the movie and there are long shots that could bore many people. Even some of the themes are the same, in 2001 there’s artificial intelligence and evolution and in Electroma there’s robots. More parallels will be drawn between these movies in the future, I’m sure.

There are only about 9 or 10 actual scenes in the movie and each scene is stretched out to it’s maximum length. They’re long enough already, and I’m sure many people might have trouble sitting through them, but if they were any longer, there would be the risk of people getting up to leave. Some of the shots themselves last for 5 minutes straight, consisting of the two robots walking in the desert. I’m sure this could turn a lot of people off, especially fans of Daft Punk who want to see the visuals usually found in their music videos. However, I loved this movie and found it beautiful and beautifully shot. It’s aesthetic is definitely one I appreciate. There was one part of the movie, though, that felt too long for me, and that was the desert scene. If you’ve seen the movie, you know what part I’m talking about. The song in that scene was pretty bad, I just couldn’t get into it. There was something at the end that made it worth the wait, though. It was only one shot but it was priceless.

While the plot to Electroma can be boiled down to a simple sentence, there’s much more to it than you would initially think. It’s actually kind of a depressing movie but it’s the kind of depressing that you laugh at. Some of the scenes are just so sad but the imagery is hilarious (I speak mainly of the chase and the bathroom scenes). And while these two robots are trying to become human, you feel for them somehow, even though you can’t connect on the literal level. At the risk of sounding cliche, this is a really deep, sincere movie. Highly recommended for those without ADD. You definitely don’t need to be a fan of Daft Punk in order to enjoy this movie. You just need to have a heart and maybe a place in there for robots.
