Ever wish you could carry a copy of DDR around with you, fit it into your pocket, and use a touch screen instead? No. Oh, well, this is the game you’re looking for if you ever get that inclination.

The premise is that you are in control of the Elite Beat Agents who go around righting wrongs and solving problems through the magic of dancing to songs, some appropriate and others just highly misplaced. (“Let’s Dance” playing as an oil tycoon tries to reclaim his fortune.) In addition several of the scenarios are incredibly outlandish and equally absurd.

The song ratings are equal to the number of stars given and the more stars there are the more difficult the song is supposed to be. There is also a difficulty stetting, which lets you pick which main agent you are supposed to be. There are only two different settings to start with.

To make it through each song, you have to hit numbered circles that are grouped by color to help keep them separate. Keeping track of your ability to hit them to the beat, is the Elite-beat-o-meter.

Keeping the meter full is how you keep everyone’s spirits up and help solve the problem through the power of the montage. As you miss beats, the meter starts to drop and the Beat Agents start to show their fatigue. If you keep missing the beat, you fail and let everyone down.

Much like Dance Dance Revolution and other games like it, you get graded on your performance in combination with the amount of combos you can string together.

As Commander Kahn says, “Agents are go!”

It’s been a long day today but thankfully a good one. I’ve been out of the house since 1

It’s been a long day today but thankfully a good one. I’ve been out of the house since 12pm at both IJN and KL General Hospital and am very, very relieved & thankful that my dad’s angiogram went without a hitch. The blockage is mild and treatable through medication plus changes in diet I guess. My mom should be discharged tomorrow too so yeah it’s a huge relief that both my parents will be out of hospital too.

My HTC Touch Pro

I’m thankful for the hi-tech stuff I have that have been great tools especially when I’m on the go. My battle-scarred HTC Touch Pro is truly a God-send as I’ve been keeping tabs on work emails as they come in. The only thing is that I’ve gotta re-organise them on my work laptop again cos’ my office isn’t on Exchange Server. Here’s how I work around the limitations I have currently with work email with Windows Mobile 6.1’s email client.

My HTC Touch Pro syncs normally with Outlook 2007 so that’s no bother.

I configure a separate email account that checks my work email account every 30 minutes or so. Think of this as a temporary place on my phone for mails that come in when I’m away from my PC. Of course for this to work your PC needs to either be off or Outlook set to offline mode so that emails stay on the server.

Of course my phone is also configured with separate accounts for both Gmail & Hotmail for personal emails.

It’s a horrible workaround I know but that’s how I get around not having push or MS Exchange for work. The strange thing is that I really find it funny that I can’t get the default account that’s set to sync with Outlook to pull email in and still remain in sync but I figure it’s probably a limitation with Windows Mobile 6.1.

The Touch Pro has been such a great tool and with all the family emergencies that I’ve been having in the past 2 years, it’s been a great companion for both work & play. In fact I even use it as a modem both on my Windows 7 machine & my Macbook. It’s a fairly simple process getting a Windows Mobile smartphone to work as a modem for my Mac by setting up Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) that my Macbook can connect to.

As much as Apple & Microsoft like to bash each other in their ad campaigns, it’s a nice surprise to learn that both Windows & Mac OS X actually play really nicely with each other. I haven’t yet gotten around to figuring out how to get Windows 7 to connect to my mobile as a modem via Bluetooth but so far I haven’t had the need for it as it works just fine via USB.

Other technical marvels that I am thankful for today are:

PockeTwit (my preferred Twitter client for Windows Mobile)

PockeTwit

My Nintendo DSi together with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Elite Beat Agents & Disgaea DS

The Nintendo DSi

A Trio of DS Goodness

Palringo that connects to GoogleTalk, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger & surprise, surprise Facebook Chat!

Palringo

Windows 7 (which I have a slightly unhealthy fascination for these days & incidentally doesn’t have any relation to any of the events of today)

My Favourite OS Right Now - Windows 7

I am thankful today. Really. It’s been a long day. Tiring. But it was worth it to be able to be there for my parents. On top of that I have these technological marvels that let me keep my responsibilities at my job somewhat whilst at the same time helping me to pass the time a lil’ bit more interestingly at both hospitals today.

*Yawns* I’m tired out now so I guess it’s time to go to bed. I’ve been sleeping early the past few days and waking up at around 6.30am every day which is a good thing.

Cheerios & g’nite everyone!

I decided to drop the PSP from this article because, frankly, I know nothing about it. For the recor

I decided to drop the PSP from this article because, frankly, I know nothing about it. For the record I’d be interested in WTF and the Metal Gear games on that system and that’s about it.

The Wii and DS operate in a completely different stratosphere when compared to the 360 and PS3. Yes, the PS3 price drop has helped a lot, especially in Japan, but Nintendo’s consoles just appeal to such a wide variety of gamers (young and old, casual and hardcore, male and female) that it’s tough to break down what really sells systems. But hey, I’ll give it a shot.

Nintendo Wii

System Seller: Wii anything
I was tempted to put the Wii itself as its own system seller, because that’s pretty much true. The Wii moves so many units because of all they hype generated around it. People gravitate to all the “Wii” games, Wii Fit sells a lot of systems, but many people are just content getting the Wii for Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Even Wii Play sells tons of units, although that isn’t really a system seller as much as it is something that people pick up when they get a Wii (for the extra controller or whatever). The Wii, unlike any other gaming system, sells to the average consumer with its accessibility, which is why it is destroying the competition.

Must Haves: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime: Trilogy, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, Wii Sports: Resort (or equivalent)
The sad thing about this list is that two of the games came out around launch (Trilogy is all the Metroid Prime games with the new Wii controls though, so I guess it’s technically new) and Galaxy came out like 2 years ago. For serious gamers, there’s not a lot to offer on the Wii, especially 3rd party content. That being said, Zelda and Mario, like all Nintendo first party games, are excellent, and Metroid Prime is one of my favorite video game series ever. Metroid also uses the controller very effectively and is the best first person experience I’ve had on the Wii. I threw Wii Sports: Resort on there because if you own a Wii it’s almost mandatory that you own a good party game, but really there are a lot of choices out there: Boom Blox is pretty fun - you could even get away with a game like Warioware: Smooth Moves, and of course almost everyone owns Mario Kart (just check the NPDs). Thankfully, Nintendo is releasing a couple of new Mario games this year and next, so hopefully there will be a reason for me to dust off my Wii soon.

Upcoming: New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Fit Plus

Nintendo DS

System Seller: Pokemon (kids), Brain Age (adults)
It’s no surprise that the average owner of a handheld console is much younger than the average owner of a home console. What better way to keep the kids occupied on long car trips than have them “catch them all”? I played Pokemon on the GBA, and it was a surprisingly deep game, and according to reviews the DS versions are still decent. Regardless, Pokemon probably sells the most DSes to kids, whereas older adults, including very old adults (like my parents) like the DS for games like Brain Age, simple brain exercises that people like to play to keep themselves young. If you’re old, you buy the DS, if you’re young, you buy the DS. No wonder it’s sold the most units in the current generation.

Must Haves: Square-Enix RPGs, Professor Layton series, Phoenix Wright series, Elite Beat Agents (Ouendan in Japan)
The crazy thing about the Nintendo DS is that there is something for everyone. For the most part, the “casual” stuff sells systems, and that’s what a lot of people focus on. But if you like old-school RPGs, there are the re-releases of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, for people who like puzzles, there is Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright tickles one’s adventure fancy, and Elite Beat Agents is for rhythm game fanatics. And if none of those genres floats your boat, there are legions of other game types out there (I’m sure I’ve forgotten a bunch of excellent games). As espion4ge has stated elsewhere, the DS really is one of the best values in gaming and a great investment for any gamer, especially if you’re on the go. If you spend time shopping with your wife (check), take public transportation (check), or like to play games before you drop off to sleep (now outlawed in my household), the DS is a great buy. Just do yourself a favor and go with the Lite over the DSi, so you’ll save yourself some money.

Upcoming: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth

So that’s my take on the best games out there for the current systems. Of course, most of it is based around my preferences, so I’d love to hear what games you all love to play on your systems! Especially if it’s the PSP…haha.

Falou

franchise has simultaneously popularised rhythm action games and yet ensured that gamers have grown bored of the genre

within just a small number of years of it’s dominance at the top of the sales charts. With so many music games out

there, it’s time to explore a few of the best alternatives to RockBand, what they are, how to get hold of them, and if

they’re worth your time.

Beatmania – DJ Hero may be a sure hit if the continued sales of Beatmania are anything to go by (in Japan at least). A

wanting a similar but different experience to Guitar Hero. Notably, many of Konami’s rhythm action games follow a

Beatmania’s stylings, then if the mood takes you, mod your aging, unloved PS2 and import the rest from Japan and the

should find a copy of the game no problem, but the real trick is getting the right play mat. Try it out at an arcade

Stuck babysitting pesky kids? Stuck on a remote island? Stuck finding a model for your master painting? Stuck with a Nintendo DS with a perfectly working touch screen that you do not know how break?

What do you do?

If Nintendo could do anything about it, a group of Men in Black- esque Elite Beat Agents will show up at your door step and blast these troubles away by… Dancing. (Think Will Smite/Tommy Lee Jones…. in manga… with their dancing shoes on)

Yup, you read right… dancing. Utilizing some of the coolest dance moves this side of Michael Jackson (Wave hands in the air together, anybody?), the Agents will groove you outta your troubles.

The gameplay itself is easy to learn. Tapping away at rapidly shrinking rings in time with the music while the main story unfolds on the top screen, Elite Beat Agents shows one of the most innovative use of the NDS unique touch screen/dual screen layout.

Learning the game is one thing, mastering it is a whole new monster all together. If you are like me, you’ll probably spend hours on end, playing the same songs over and over again just to get the super elusive “A” or “S” rank, and at some of the later stages just trying to clear the stage to unlock the next ones.

Repeated playback of the same song can cause some serious mental issues if one is not careful, like say in the event that said song is of the Macerana or My Heart Will Go On variety. Trust me, listening to the same song for an hour (at least) is not very uncommon once you start getting into the game.

And getting into the game is easy simply because it’s a game that is very hard not to like, if it makes any sense at all. It is chockful of some of the most bizarre characters and oddball situations in any game I’ve played so far, and that is saying a lot.

The title has a certain bit of… for lack of a better word, magic to it. Unless you’re lacking the humour gene in your DNA, you’ll laugh at and laugh along with the game as you search for pirate treasure to the Village People’s YMCA, hang out with socialites on a deserted island to the tune of Madonna’s Material Girl, and (of course) saving the world from evil planet conquering aliens (Aliens that conquer planets, not malevolent lands that occupy aliens). The storylines are so cheesy and over the top that you really have to applaud the evil geniuses that came up with them.

The rhythm of the story telling is something to enjoy too. The songs get progressively faster, and hence harder, but a master touch was the inclusion of Chicago’s You’re the inspiration midway through the game breaks the rhythm, not in a bad way. In fact, it was one of my favourite songs to play in the game. Of course, the fact that the rhythm is slower and hence easier to tap along helps too.

The playlist are all covers, of course. But they are a mish mash of old favourites and relatively recent top 40s. You will play songs from Jamiroquai to Village People. From Cher to Madonna to Avril Lavinge. Great stuff.

All in all, it’s a fantastic overall package and one of the best games on the Nintendo DS. Say what you want about Rock Band for the PSP, Elite Beat Agent is THE rhythm game for the handheld console.

Let’s see Rock Band Unplugged fans come up with a tribute video like this!

9/10

Having played few great Rhythm games on the DS, such as Elite Beat Agents, I was disappointed that most rhythm were bring dominated by failures such as Guitar Hero DS, and other horrible games that should not be mentioned (I’m looking at you High School Musical). So when Rhythm Heaven came to the DS, I was excited. Maybe this could be the revolutionary game that may show off the capabilities of the DS? The answer is yes…

Rhythm Heaven may not rise above Elite Beat Agents, but it does match up to it. What makes this game stand out, is the fact that you are playing quick mini-games that require absolute perfection by tapping and flicking to the beat. The game has you playing mini-games, which range from managing and assembly line, to controlling a man pulling carrots out of holes. While this may sound crazier than Elite Beat Agents, it isn’t. While Elite Beat Agents had you solving world-wide problems by dancing, the thing that makes Rhythm Heaven weird is the variety of scenarios you play. It is beyond me how simple games like Ping Pong, and Coin Tossing, can be made into addicting rhythm games, but Rhythm Heaven somehow does this, and adds a little depth to these games, by allowing you to gain medals, and many other side games, when you do finish these games.

The only flaw that stops this game from rising above Elite Beat Agents, is the difficulty, which spikes up ridiculously high after you finish the 2nd level. While you can skip some of the games, this difficulty can sometimes stop you from unlocking other games, which can ruin the game for those with little patience. If you do have a lot of patience, though, you will have an insanely fun time, with Rhythm Heaven.

The music in Rhythm Heaven is also remarkable, as for it does not have any licensed tracks. Instead, the game has many tunes that were specifically created for the games, tunes that would get stuck in your head for years and never leave you. While it would have been nice if there were licensed tracks, I find that it may actually hurt the game, as for the overall style of this game would not match the tunes.

Rhythm Heaven is the game that I have been waiting for, a game that can actually match up to Elite Beat Agents, and show off the true capabilities of the DS. It shows that the DS will not die for a very long time, and that it is possible to match up to the legendary Elite Beat Agents. If you love music, get this game!!

Trailer do Brutal Legend:

Bem, outro trailer MUITO bom divulgado foi o do Beatles Rock Band

assim como o Guitar Hero lançou a tradição de especiais (Aerosmith, Metallica…), Rock Band lança seu Beatles:

Incrível como eles capturaram toda a essencia dos Beatles nesse trailer, passando pelas fases e música, até o clímax licérgico do final.

So like previous reviews of older games I’m behind the times once again. But it’s never

So like previous reviews of older games I’m behind the times once again. But it’s never too late to enjoy a great game, so I figure I’ll talk about it. While not quite a review of Elite Beat Agents I am going to talk about the gameplay mechanics a little bit.

So first off let’s start off with the good. They picked a lot of good songs. Whether you like them or not is personal preference, but they picked some nice, catchy tunes that make for good rhythm gameplay.

There are a lot of good things about the game, but since I’m currently frustrated I’m going to talk about the negatives, haha. Maybe if I think of some positives afterwards I’ll talk about them too.

First thing is the Yes/No fail bar. One slight slip and you can fail in about 10 seconds. I’ve missed 6 notes in an entire song and still barely passed before. I’m going to compare this to guitar hero. In guitar hero every note you miss takes your bar down, for the sake of explanation, let’s say 2 points. Every non-star power note you get right raises it one point. Hence for every note you get wrong you need to get two right to get back to where you were. But in EBA it seems to be random. (Note: I don’t have the game manual, so if it says in there how it works then that’s why I don’t know.) Sometimes it will shoot up quickly and other times it will hover towards failure. The bonus points at the end seem to help and the note streak you have seems to multiply points, which in turn raises your bar, but sometimes it feels like you can never climb out of the cellar. Then one miss and oops, you’re done.

For those that have never played it before at the end of most songs there is a wheel that you have to spin — basically you make circular motions with the stylus in order to spin the wheel. I was at the final wheel and still failed the song because of the next thing I’m about to talk about. The bar constantly drains. Again another difference from guitar hero. This means that if there’s a pause between strings of notes your bar continues to drain … So if you miss a note at the beginning of the next string you fall even further into the whole because of the draining. I’ve finished a section with a low bar — into the warning. The next section began, but the first note was slightly delayed. Because the bar drains I “failed” before I even had a chance to pull myself back up.

One more mechanic I want to rant about. Some of the notes with the music don’t make sense. Maybe this is because of the musician in me, but some songs change on a whim from on-beat to off-beat notes making songs virtually impossible to sight read. So you have to fail the same section over and over until you finally learn where the off beats are and where the on beats are. In addition sometimes the notes go with a guitar or drum part and then the next instant are switched to match up with the rhythm of the vocal part. This switching back and forth also makes it hard to know what goes where unless you memorize the song. And that means failing over, and over, and over agian. Sure it’s good to make the game a challenge, but when you combine the first aspect I ranted about with this one you can go from the top of the meter to failure awfully quickly.

EBA is still a great game with a lot of good aspects, but I think if they ever make a sequel (which I hope they do) they need to look at some of these aspects.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow Nintendo DS multi card store now offers multicarts where you can choose 5

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

Nintendo DS multi card store now offers multicarts where you can choose 50 in 1 or even 100 games on 1 card. The latest models of Nintendo multigame cartridges are compatible with DSi and can be called DSi Multi Game Cards although they are made to work on all models of DS just as well. Best money saving option is to pick up one gamecard for DSi and choose your own 100 games on 1 card. Nintendo DSi / DS Lite Multi-Carts >>

Games come in a variety of designs and templates. It is perhaps enough to say that no matter how absurd the occasion a user will find a game to match gaming requirements over the Internet. Amongst the most popular form of games are the Nintendo games, for the simple reason that a good experience needs no occasion and is always welcome. As a matter of fact, Nintendo multicart is one of the most popular searches on most engines. Sending across game cartridges as gifts is one of the easiest things to do. All users need to do is look at the various games offered, follow instructions and send it across v to someone who needs a cheer. However, how does one decide which games to choose in the first place because you haven’t played all? That’s why you need to read various DS Multicart, review to learn more.

For budding gamers there is still another exciting way to create a collection of great games. Websites offer users the opportunity to design and fit in games they prefer in a single cartridge in their own style. DSi multigame cartridge will work on consoles from any region. Users can add their own favorites which is a truly personalized way to nurture the gaming experience. The tools for doing this are generally available online and users need not have any experience in software to operate them. However, users that already have skills to create their own cartridges on can get as innovative as they wish. What’s more, their capabilities might land them with a real cool gaming collection. Nintendo DS Lite and DSi 48 games for £50. For others, who still need to learn about gaming varieties available, it’ll always do good if you glance through a DS Multicart, review. There are a few things in the world that can beat a gamer’s selfless devotion. Most people try very hard to capitalize on their love, not realizing that it is often the simplest thing that touches the right chord. This is bought about in the form of gaming cartridges.

Gaming was originally carved out as a celebration of digitalization. With time, it became a festival for all in general and now, it is dedicated to the spirit of gamers. In the United States, and other continents, gift and merchandize sales have begun to rival other gaming provider’s fanfare and many see the Nintendo as just a commercialization that seems to have taken off well. Since its inception, the most popular way of commemorating gaming experience is with a choice of great games. In fact, the increased frenzy around DS multicarts has more than once halted the functioning of other big names because it’s difficult to compete with such a big name. If you are keen to get started, then make purchasing a simple process with the help of a DS Multicart, review of multi that work with DSi.

With the age of the computer, gaming has also entered the world of technology. Distance and time constraints can no longer hold the emotions of gamers at ransom. Gaming cartridges have replaced simple games and has begun to offer much more choice in them than ever before.

I rented Elite Beat Agents a long time ago with Gamefly. Loved every second of it. I was playing on the easiest difficulty setting, and still it kicked my ass many a time. But I loved it. So when I saw a used version in perfect condition for $10 the other day, you can be sure I snatched it up.

Then I got home and booted it up…and heard angels sing. The person who had it last was a real pro. They had unlocked everything and beaten everything. This mystery person even unlocked the hardest difficulty level and then annihilated it. They have insane high scores on everything. Now, first off I am perplexed how someone could just part with a game they obviously put so much time into. They had to love it, or they wouldn’t have tortured themselves to get those scores. The game is HARD on anything but the easy setting, and even that gets rough later on. This person played through the 3 difficulty levels above that! They even unlocked the “Elite Beat Divas” difficulty level that I didn’t even know existed. Amazing.

So that brings me to the second thing. … I can’t bring myself to clear the memory and start from scratch with my own progress. And I can’t play it myself unless I do. Instead, I just boot it up, look at all his/her progress and scores and just sit there with my jaw open, unable to delete it. Either it’s too beautiful, or I’m too crazy. I’m not sure which.

I’ve gotten to the “erase all save data” yes/no screen 3-4 times now and just couldn’t do it. I’ll keep trying…but I might have to get someone else to do it for me.

Heh, I think I’m just crazy.

Why yes, I have been rather productive this last week.

The middle panel in this one didn’t turn out as well as I wanted it to, but I do play the Zelda Item Fanfare in my head whenever I get a plate of momos. It’s true.

And the last panel is also true. The auto was completely empty. No driver, no ethereal aura, nothing. Not even a tractor beam. It just…moved.

Drawing this next one made me happy: I obsessed over the colouring for a while, and its possibly the most complex one I’ve attempted so far. The game depicted here is the utterly daft and brilliant Elite Beat Agents, in which, and I’m going to let the official site describe this for you:

The main characters of Elite Beat Agents are members of a fictional government agency responsible for helping those in need. The agents encourage the person through their dancing and the people they assist are instilled with motivation that helps them overcome various obstacles.

And then there’s this. I quite like this one. It’s also completely true.

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to help a Japanese exchange student with her English skills and also ask my own questions about Japan and its current events. I ended up talking with her about Kyoto, which she had been to once, and it really brought home the fact that I’ll be leaving to Japan in less than a month and a half.

That said, the talks about money that I had with my mom are turning into talks about plane tickets, which I’m going to research and have my parents buy later today. Also, just yesterday I turned in my housing form, which *fingers crossed* will let me reside at the dorm of my choice… which looks a little something like this (audio in French, but you get the picture ~ hit the jump to see what I’m talking about):

At the same time as all this, though, I still have to move out from my apartment here and get back to Corpus… I really wish I stay here longer and then go straight to Kyoto… that would be nice. But alas, my parents are reluctant to refuse to let me stay any longer in Norman. They seem to fear sloth more than they fear the money I waste in pursuit thereof, but such is life.

With that, I leave you. Also, check out this video:
